oh no she says put out a video that's not a boundary break episode i am so sorry april 1st will be the next episode if you're interested in that but for now i just wanted to talk about something i'm a little bit passionate about the other day i picked up this which i'm sure it comes with a bunch of questions one of which being is she says are you having a baby um i'm not having a baby i don't even have a girlfriend so don't worry about that but i did pick up an animation cell and if you need to know what an animation cell is i'll go over that really quickly basically before the invention of digital animation people did things traditionally physically and cartoon shows especially in the 80s and 90s use what are called animation cells artists would painstakingly draw each frame of animation and then ink it onto these transparent cells and then each drawing is one frame run through incredibly quickly on a camera and that's how traditional animation used to be made average they paint almost 100 cells a day how many cells are in each show about 20 000. and you saw the title of this video and you now know that i think that this is one of the coolest collectibles that you could possibly pick up why is that well first of all they're cheap they're very cheap now i picked up a reasonably expensive one but that's because i have a lot of sentimental value for one of the most watched television cartoon programs on the planet so of course that comes with a little bit of inflated price but technically speaking too i got this one cheaper than it normally is usually can go from like 600 to 800 bucks if the scene's really good this is a scene that i guess people don't really think is that great and so i got it at a discounted price of 450 which for a lot of people i understand that might still sound like a lot of money but for other cartoons it goes for pretty freaking cheap you can get like a bunch of cells from a cartoon that's less popular that maybe means something to you for like 60 to 70 bucks so by all means this is not like the most expensive hobby or collection that you could possibly invest yourself into but why is it one of the coolest ones that you could possibly do well let's watch the scene that this is based off of [Music] did you get the job nah they wanted someone good story of my life oh homie hey come over here and feel our baby kicking wow kid i won't let you down i swear to you when you come out of there the first thing you're gonna see is a man with a good job yeah the doctor now what made me initially wary about even buying this was the fact that none of the frames from this episode line up exactly with what i have here but apparently that's very typical what 20th century fox would do when they distribute these cells to partnered websites is they will grab one scene then grab all the characters that will be in that scene and provide one frame of animation for each character and to save them some time it's not the exact frame for each character and that's fine let's find all three frames of animation that this entire scene that i bought here actually shows up in the episode you got homer here you got this frame of marge here and then you have this one frame of patty and selma here and so with all of that said check this out suddenly what just looks like a picture shows itself as the production itself here's homer and if you look at the back you can see the artist filling in the ink and that is amazing to think about that on the opposite side of the frame that i just showed you that it truly looked like this on the other side of the camera i know i'm basically making this a boundary break episode all of a sudden give me a second here another cool thing too is that you can see where the artists just stopped they knew that it was going to be out of frame and so they just kind of made a blob instead of showing her actual feet because they knew it wouldn't be worth the time and effort to do so i was able to pick up three cells for the price of one and then a print of the background because there's only one of those so this isn't the real deal this is just a replication but i'm okay with that it's better than having no background at all it's very considerate that they would give you a print of the background and although i would say this scene here is probably the money shot of the episode this is probably the one would be 600 to 800 this scene right here illustrates so much as to why i love this episode to begin with it's not my favorite episode in the series but i love it for the fact that it's one of the more emotional episodes one of the reasons why people hate the new episodes of the simpsons because the old ones weren't afraid to be a lot more emotional as well as killing it with the humor and this scene right here encapsulates all of that it's emotional it's funny it speaks me on a personal level because when i watch this episode reminds me of my family and my parents trying their hardest to provide for their two kids my personal life experience has been exposed to this idea of the ups and downs and trials and tribulations of two people trying their best to make it forward and do the best for their family layer that with the fact that i grew up with the simpsons and i watched this at a very early age coupling with the realization that this episode holds up so incredibly well even into my adulthood discovering a newfound appreciation for the nuances of the episode that i didn't catch as a kid and patty and selma represent the humor fittingly in the background of what is a very emotional scene provides a little bit of levity at the end to me there was so much to be said here in this one frame that it made perfect sense for me to pick this one up as my one animation cell that i'll ever own so all in all i'm pretty happy with the one that i picked out you can of course pick out something that means something to you or don't just pick out something that you think like oh that would look cool on my wall period right it doesn't matter the point is is that this is really freaking cool it's like basically getting the baseball bat to your favorite baseball game or the guitar use the favorite content that you went to i have an immortalized piece of history here i've watched this when i was a little kid and i grew up to be a man and today i get to hold in my hand something that was glued to my tv screen so many years ago and shaped me into who i am today i don't know i i just for whatever reason i thought that i had a lot to say here i hope that you enjoyed this video either way hey by the way if you're an etsy guy or whatever and you can make me a shadow box frame so i can get this thing layered that would be super freaking cool reach out to me at my email address i'll put in the video description if you think you can handle something like that i'll pay you i just don't want a basic frame i'd love to put that in something that shows off the layers of homer marge and um padding and selma but anyways thank you so much for watching this video i know it's not the typical stuff that you tend to see here but you know whenever there's just something that i get really into i always think well if i'm this excited about this chances are my audience is gonna love it too so i hope you did and um maybe got you interested in the world of animation cells who knows let me know if it did of course somebody messages me while recording that's okay i'm still gonna end it later guys thanks for watching
