Amazing OUTDOOR BARREL SAUNA - Full Detailed Build

[Music] hmm [Applause] i've been planning to build this bear sauna for about two months now but the weather was really severe first it was raining for one month and then the temperatures dropped and was snowing and uh the temperatures were almost 15 degrees below zero so i was not able to do almost anything here on my property now i have started this project and i'm really happy to be back and to be able to build something again the sauna will be made out of spruce wood which is five centimeters thick this is about two inches and uh first i was planning to do the rounded front porch but then i decided to make a straight one and also i know that the foundation uh is not the best one but this is just temporary uh foundation this whole sauna will be moved to another location later yes so ah is [Music] so [Music] we installed the window and it looks really nice and now we will continue with installing the door but first we have to correct mistake that we made um we didn't so these planks here that are holding the front frame together weren't strong enough and when we were tightening these steel belts that are around the sauna we tightened them too much um so these wall planks here went together yes so if i'm exaggerating at the moment the door are a little bit like that so the plan now is to take this um planks out and replace them with some stronger oak uh planks that will [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] we are proudly announcing that the sauna is finished about the sauna the sauna is made out of spruce wood and there are few elements from oakwood and the doors are made out of siberian large and the benches and the flooring is made out of poplar tree it doesn't necessarily has to be a poplar tree but it has to be some kind of soft wood because when you are laying naked on the bench you want it to be as comfortable as possible and also you don't want to get some chips of wood and resin for example and uh that's it yeah um about the sauna itself we actually prepared all the boards um and also the front and the back circle um in the workshop uh so once we brought it here to the property it was quite simple and quick to put everything together um as you already saw there are three stainless steel belts around the sauna which are holding the entire construction together between the building we used some screws to hold the planks in place but then when we put stainless steel belts around it we took them out so there actually aren't any screws in this construction um watching what is really important to mention it's also that we left some space between the front and back frame and this length yes here because this wood will be exposed to extreme conditions it can be pretty cold here and also when we will burn the stove um there will be around 80 or even 90 degrees in here and also it will be quite humid so the wood will be working it will the wood is always allow alive it's always working so it's important to leave some space and um we also have these belts which we can use to regulate uh the so that's important yeah and because all of the things that sasha mentioned because of the heat moisture and so on we decided to to make the roofing and a lot of diys and people who are making this kind of saunas put bituma shingles directly on the this sauna but then i asked a few people and uh i read some forums and i thought that it would be better if i do the roofing offset to the sauna i installed some beams and then put the roofing because i thought that uh if the bituma shingles are directly on the sauna when the sauna is heated also the b2 machine guns get warm and uh when the bitumen gets warm it smells bad and i definitely don't want this in my finished sauna i just want to smell wood and so that's where our decision this was a little bit more expensive and a little bit more tricky or it took us more time but i think it's working yes also about the front porch um the front porch is made out of oakwood and um there are actually some locks supporting the front porch and it was actually quite a last-minute decision tina just saw this old spruce log laying here on the property and he decided to use it as the supporting system for the front porch and i'm really happy he took the decision because i think it goes really nicely um it's that added value to the whole look of the sauna the doors doors yes um so when it comes to doors um we are really happy how they look the whole um big window thing it's really nicely um it looks really nice but um also if we had to do one thing again in the whole project um it would definitely uh be the door um we had quite a lot of trouble with um door we made them previously in the workshop as i mentioned before um and the first travel that we had when installing them uh when we were tightening these stainless steel belts the whole construction of the front wall kind of not collapsed but it lost its shape because um these these planks that were holding the entire construction together weren't strong enough so we had to take them out replace them with stronger planks and also cut the frame to the right position again uh then the second trouble was so the the entire door are quite big and also quite heavy so it was quite a project to get them in because there isn't a lot of space between door and the outside edge the outside edge and also the hinges uh hinges one of the hinges was right in between the planks so it wasn't really holding any weight it was quite loose so we had to reinstall it um which doesn't necessarily look the best but it was definitely necessarily to repair because as i mentioned it wasn't uh it wasn't holding any weight from the door so um we still like how they look but we are not 100 satisfied with the whole process and we think it could be better and lastly the the wood stove this is special wood stove for finish saunas and firstly i thought that i will be installing the normal wood stove that my grandfather gave me but then also i got some information that the wood stove is not the normal wood stove it's not the best option for sauna because when pouring water on it it will crack sooner or later and also what is special about this stove is that it has double insulation around it and you can easily see it or lay next to it because we had an experience with the normal stove in sauna and it was almost impossible to sit or even have your legs near the stove because it was so hot the temperature was so hot so high near the stove that it was impossible to be there so it was a little bit expensive and i'm happy that i took this decision because uh it's definitely the best for a long run yeah uh and lastly this uh sauna is finished type of sauna which means that the temperatures can get really high up to 80 or even 90 on degrees celsius and you can create humidity by pouring some water with essential oils if you want to on top of that um these stones are heated by the wood stove and when you pour the water on top of it it evaporates because these stones are so hot um and that's it yeah that's it for this video and we hope you enjoyed it we hope you enjoyed building this uh sauna with us
