Fun fact about DMG machines: they take BMW car antifreeze. Less fun fact: they use lines that degrade and you end up buying out all the nearby BMW dealers of their antifreeze when they spring leaks and end up filling your coolant tank with automotive coolant.

[Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] hi folks we are here at one of the coolest shops I've ever been to with Devin du Queen Devin thanks for having us this is insane this is insane what shows around yeah sure just see the Machine yeah let's see the machine a she's pretty cool too sweet of awesome timing because you're looking at some pretty gnarly sized forklifts because there's something outside that maybe we'll go pick take a peek at evil 60 linear machine so linear machine means no ball screws right yeah no ball screws on the XY the Z is still a ball screw but it's it's a higher fee to higher pitch insanely fast so yeah it's insanely fast yeah yeah tables table he was pretty slick you even use it it's new machine right yeah I've only made a couple parts on it so far I'm just getting my poke my post and everything dialed in for it and everything should be working good we're waiting actually had some tools for the blocks and stuff behind us yeah and yeah soon as those tool shows up we'll start running the kernel yeah we'll probably fire the fire of the pyramid in there oh sweet another vice so this is this was actually a rush fifth axis send it to us raw oh yeah we had to get in anodized that's what we wanted to get any of that so you just drop it on the table you don't to train me because you got dynamic offsets yeah we with the 840 D we can just basically align the part to the machine instead of you know instead of the other way around you said a four that's the Siemens control yeah the Siemens Siemens 840 within this elos yeah it has a wall has a/c Louis interface but mainly you know what's what's doing the whole job as the is the seam inside of it here so so folks like for us on our tour box our houses we just have a Haas control or trauma control this has a Siemens control but then team G Mori puts their kind of interface on top of it and it lets you kind of interact with the deal the screen controls interfaces programs monitoring yeah kind of stuff right yeah you have on here like you know job manager obviously there's a new machine I don't in here yeah but job manager scheduler job assistant it shows you all your tools in there obviously your control you can remote to a computer has a really nice text tech calculator yeah it has you know milling turning calculator although you know algebraic calendar everything like that so all that stuff all the power settings and everything documents all the machine manuals are actually on the machine so Cee Lo's user manual you know machine manual you want to search something you can just search it right here you know like Mme it'll it'll pull it up yeah show you kind of you know where where they are and you can keep cycling through I know I'm gonna Shawn his he's got a smaller version thing of that machine he was showing like how it pulls up the maintenance and that stuff like super it'll is what it is a little annoying you know I'm the Service agent basically all the so pending tasks will show up we keep our machine pretty maintained but the it will pop up and then on this main screen here will show a blue icon here saying service pending and it's it's not like machine service is just like tasks like cleaning the window or double check filters you know make sure you know inspect : lines and everything like that you know yeah these machines like to be well they like to be well maintained the others that there's a service log in here that has that has all the all the tasks you know that have been performed when they were performed by who they who they were performed by there's also one one thing that's pretty cool is these uh so these service keys there's different keys different key levels right this is the white ones are the master keys I basically when I sub the machines I run the master key and then I'll put a setup key in there so it restricts the level so you can't change offsets more than a certain amount you can't edit programs you can't do anything like that and then it also allows you like to change the modes over here cuz normally like a level one operator has to be in level one to one but um like in love so you couldn't jog the machine right now but if we put it in level three there's actually acknowledge button over here and if I have it in jog mode I can move the machine now with the door open it's sick so there's only levels 1 2 3 & 4 if Rob Lockwood is here he's a level 71 I don't see we gotta know that we got another key look at that yes tables tablespoons the 180s so actually the the way the kinematics are on the machine the 180 is actually like a positive 20 or 30 yeah so to get it to be to get the table to be 90 it actually spins up to 120 to get it to get to get it to be 90 and then obviously the table table and everything spins it moves a lot faster than this this is just an jog mode obviously zero can you run an empty program or something to show the machine moves I'd have I'd say folks these lunar new machine this is insane we did a card here to the video we did of that matsuri demo where they had a think they had a linear machine very different than that it was a really small you know working envelope but 4000 inches per minute Rapids that's insane we're just gonna see if you can pull up some empty program to just show kind of the profile I mean this is it's interests we'll go see the monoblock and then we'll look at the other machine very different designs this is the knuckle joint so it's got look at that this was just doing some profiling in a pocket yeah we were actually cutting carrier material off of a part okay real quick a little bit uh and this is all nugent toolpaths this is all fusion yeah we've sick fusion runs all our machines it's insane that's awesome if you guys haven't checked out Devin's Instagram we'll put a I don't think we can do a card to Instagram but we'll put a video link in the video description but he's got some really awesome stuff on his Instagram which is 1186 MFG yeah and this is an HS k6 is HS k63 yeah we can go over to the tool crib i'll show you the difference between them it's actually pretty slick whoa holy cow that's fast and that's that was a ball screw move because easy yeah this is easy ball that's still bad he's a high disease a high pitch oh yeah who's this this thing has 120 do you see the magazine on this on the inside oh my folks hold on so it goes and snakes up around there 120 yeah 120 dennah this is sick oh my it'd be sicker if I get afford enough tool holders Yeah right for the whole thing yes zero sympathy the this this one's also 120 this is hsk sixty three wheel so this is your new machine this is just the magazine from the new machine so they have a new machine outside it's in this giant crate the size of a literally the size of a house and this is the that's a tsk sixty-three goods the HSK one hundred one hundred which is insane yeah so it's got two wheels the first wheels match it's missing three pockets so it can travel to the farthest wheel bar this wheel 63 so if you wanted to add more wheels on there it'd be 60 60 60 and the last one would be 63 because it doesn't have the knockout for the tool to these transfer oh my god I mean this this this piece here weighs more than most machines look at it okay here's the double arm the does the tool transfer yeah walk around it passes through the oh my when you buy a machine this big - it comes with a ladder come on it's got the tool tool brushes and everything to clean the HSK 63 insane and our email video card here - that we saw some it just gave 100 towards that were on like face mills that were on 20 inch extensions and they just still tera that's that's the really crazy crazy thing about about like calf 42 hsk 63 - hsk 100 calf forties like roughly 670 Newton meters of torture and rigidity hsk 63 is 3600 it just came 117 thousand it's insane so we can head over here to the where we got some tools and yes actually I think you sold some your house machines but I think that's kind of what's cool what your story is you guys build up to this starting with the VF series as well as some umcg alright yeah you um c7 50s and and whatnot here I got standard cat 40 tool this is a HS k63 tool which obviously I look shorter yeah shorter shank but it makes face contact and angular contact here yep so basically the difference between this is when this holding and there's pulse loads trying to pinch this together to hold it in so that's why you don't find like at 40 spindles or whatever the real high speeds because at the high speeds the balls want to come apart we're so pathetic we're here there's actually a thing that goes inside and it expands so actually the faster you go it makes the connection you know that much stronger with the tool holder so there's less force need a pull stud heavier so if something goes inside of there ya know what's inside here this is this is a coolant tube so this basically transfers the coolant on a new on a new one there's no there's no cooling tube or anything in there you only really need it for through spindle coolant this just helps with the blowback so you don't get a thousand psi going into your spindle bearing yeah so which will happen if you don't have it in if you don't have it in there cool too so and then beefy holder though yeah this is hsk 100 so this is a big big contact I didn't shrink oh yeah yep shrink fit and everything like that so it's funny we were at Mauri till yesterday holding some cat fifties which is insane cuz their head being big but this is lighter yeah it's way stronger because it's all ha it's all hollow and yeah I mean this is a stronger connection than right then kid 50 because it makes contact here on the spindle - so unlike the Hoss where it's you know hanging out only making taper contact the contacts on both I will tell you there's no different there's no comparing hsk 63 - it took at 40 I mean the differences you get better balancing - you could have you could have a 10 12 inch tool be cutting really crazy with it I mean something you could never do in a keen on a cat 40 machine yeah sweet so that's your shrinker yeah Lynne up start to buy Lindex nichkhun yeah you want to shrink something in it yeah sure would be awesome some gnarly tools will put finishers put yeah they were first steal some ruffer's do some indexable stuff you okay being in it yeah yeah we really appreciate Devin letting us come by I've been actually been hanging out with Ben Ben's if you know him from his rib his name has not been Ben's but it's his Instagram handle he's making some really cool desk lamps but now also some flashlights so yeah basically if the if this works the right time there's basically an auto mode or a manual mode a couple different ways to do this you put this inductor thing on there and then there's these little covers but they're basically more to the size of your tool okay and then what I'd what I do also before I start as I make sure that the corresponding one for this is in the cooler and then I'll put the cooler the cooler one in here and then it once we cool it within a boat you know to three minutes we'll be able to touch it cool so um intended just hit Auto here it's gonna heat it's gonna heat up once it goes to red and it locks yeah then normally what I do is I pull it out because I like to set it kind of horizontal so I'll pull it out just like the end of time okay and i'll slide it in there to basically where i want it i might check my gauge length real quick sometimes it's already it's already tightened up so you can throw a little more heat at it and i mean you could you could have this thing on here for twenty thirty seconds you know kind of yeah we get it get in the right spot the only thing is is the real real small ones you cannot touch this at all cuz as soon as it touches that thing the heat goes to it instantly so you got to use like pliers or something oh you're supposed to use these kept these Kevlar gloves but these ones don't fit my hands very well so and then all you do is turn this on and like so cooling it just makes it have it faster you can just let it idle and you could just let it idle normally when I take the tools out I'd like to have more of a safety zone but I just put them kind of by the wall just so nobody touches up to wive hot you know hot one hot ones out here or whatever but right it's not it's actually not that often that we're actually shrinking tools and putting them in there I mean generally we're putting stuff in there and we get really good cutter life out of the you know the shrink fitting stuff so goes in there and I mean a couple months later we'll pull it out and put it you know put a new one in there figure out what it needs to be we know some of the guys down it it uh Sumitomo so sweet waiting for hsk one hundred for this five inch aluminum face mill you just need a holder for I need yeah I need a hole I need a holder I have a inch and a quarter here that's not big enough the hold is not big enough Wow I got some even bigger one somewhere over on over on a pallet why is it not bigoted oh oh yeah because they need the holy cow that's about how big that is and that will go in the new machine so then I'll go in the app for reference that's you know seven by seven by five is Kat forty that's in st. we'll check it - oh it looks like a BT 30 thanks Joe yeah so you use that just to a lot of what you guys do is huge amounts of material removal right on these yeah everything's everything make is really light really thin so then they come in in really big blocks I mean we've had crazy parts you know come in that were a proposed 1,800 pounds of material and the finished part weighs 800 96 inches right right right so it's a big big big parts a lot a lot of material mobile that's one of the one of the bigger problems we have when we're you know kind of in full production on parts like that is keeping the chip bins yeah cleaned and you know in the dumpster and whatnot because this this machine fills them up pretty pretty quick this is amazing DMF we saw this at emo I think it was a smaller I think it was hard the scale is very deceiving because of your environment but folks this is insane full five axis machine will hopefully be able to be able to see it run here in a second the head comes out towards me and why this table rotates down here and you've got an A axis on the side this is just insane I've never seen anything like it they were literally running this part when we walked in this morning I mean taking this huge chunk of aluminum and and whittling it down to this and that's not done right no look at that they're just jogging slowly up with the obviously doors open right now Eric's coming out and again check out Devon's Instagram he's got some awesome video showing this machine in particular yeah going to town this is the one we've had we've had the longest for about what four four or five months now but yeah and this this thing is a is a big tracker but it's incredibly fast for how big it is see if I can whip up that okay oh yeah the doors themselves I mean just look at that ha oh my that's insane that's insane oh the head can do it the table in the head can fault it that that'll be your door over here on the left but the point undisputed Wow look at the size of the chips that they've been pulling out for this thing you you would think I would think as a layman that when that head is extended out and why that you'd lose rigidity but that thing was wailing look at that dude Hey look at that Devon that's insane [Music] so really doesn't help very much but they have a little so program but something would go over the empty HS can actually pull the whole table off can you can you do tool change of the door open no do you do on you are you doing anyways actually we can I think if devil s we didn't walk inside this machine from the back yeah in a minute oh yeah nothing's funny but but the fact that you can walk inside of the machine there's like a hallway little coming to it this is the craziest tool change to the tool changers in that door right there and it follows the spindle hsk 100 those are big tools so anywhere the machine is in X it's the tool changer is kind of right there with it how many tools does it hold yes and now we're over here on the right side I have a little something to measure the two and these days actually yes Oh intended like a Renishaw contact probe like we've got it are pretty common this has a doubloon non-contact laser that can do your two offsets it can do a breakage detection it can measure the diameter the tool my sub program juice mes for a measure there's blooms though use air to keep them constantly clean and for your chips it comes down and it's interesting it doesn't measure on the way down it actually blows past it and it measures on the way up yeah there's there's a bunch of different modes actually okay a solid beam and break the beam okay I'm solid okay I have it go from side to side there's some reason to go bro broken beam to open I can tell what the reason is well the reason for us that we found is sometimes the laser has a little bit of trouble just doing distinguishing like a black oxide drill hard time seeing it so you got to break the beam got it when it's connected every connection is one is one a dozen which is just a quick change of the cycle or whatever but that's the only issue that I found different with the contact list you know system like that is that it you know the occasional time that would be able to find the tool because there's some sort of reflective reflective and you know I can't see the tiniest tiniest tip on that laser is trying to basically find a plane where where it starts and ends and if it has a hard time you can also just change the tolerance to we have it set to like 2/10 to bump it up to like you know something like that or even a foul and you'll get do get less you know error like that but you know mid mid to land every thing like that this 85 monoblock actually has a it has the blue blazer on it the physical checker inside give the choker right there they're literally rigging in a new machine right now this even cute bigger so it's a dual block 125 so the big difference is the mono block here which is this machine is one single large casting with this dual mount to trunnion right look at that [Music] you really use a lot of shrink fit huh yeah drilling milling rap every yeah not face Mills oh cool the blooms up on the side yeah the thing on the side is for turning tool this one's not a half d they have an F D and they have a half of the S which is turning ink or Andy what yeah it has training grinding you know dressers in there and if you actually check this out when this tool gets put away it's gonna actually check it with a physical tool checker inside the magazine you should yeah yeah bringing her this little arms gonna come up and check it to make sure stop broken so you could keep machining while it's doing it instead of tilting the table so that's just a real rough check this chip to broker gone sweet I just so I can keep machining instead of talking were you running apart here oh yeah [Music] [Music] that's the same thick brows at a 90 this is the our eggs are a seven the art the RAL 90 okay let's go the chips that were coming off that before we started filming they are pick chips [Music] through joel coen [Music] so this is just a 3d adaptive clearing customer here position of God of are you testing this burger matters it were just something I'm upset about we dug up tails all these finish up this morning so sudden these parts off and the last part all the machines are waiting for everybody to set of mafia it is nice yeah yeah it's quite here today but they just got a machine make no mistake there's a they've been I've nobody's been sending pictures are showing those chip bins that get filled up every few days you can check my gosh yeah is roughing it out before you throw surfacing and so obviously while while this was running look at the chips losing it has really good chip evacuation though like on the that they don't get stuck in the sheetmetal yeah it's really nice really good wash down so you can be setting up the other pallets on the pallet just a while this is machining huh yeah you can literally open up this door and set this next job off that's sick foot pedal just let's just rotate it locks the door really I want to take that part out that's pretty gnarly yeah the scope you lose size of how this scale how big these are just just insane I mean again look you know more people are probably familiar with what a vf3 is and you can see it over there in the same [Applause] [Music] you mind if I go poke my head out the door at the new machine real quick okay sweet let's go see I think it's probably in a giant cardboard box there's the they've been filling these up I think he was saying more than once a week yeah that's a whole aluminum and look at the chips look at that forklift holy cow so they've got to lift it from above I guess I honestly don't even know you can kind of good idea how it worked with the hydraulics there and the counterweight here but that's insane Press Brake and I believe that's a laser that's more that's probably the filter and chiller for the new machine right there that's alone and there's the new machine oh my gosh holy cow look at it [Music] you can see it's got the rotating head and you can see that with a glare [Music] look at the back I'm just massive [Music] they've got the 125 out of the box so I think you'd call this kind of a Ferrari really really fast nimble smaller tool holders surfacing awesomeness and the one that we were looking at for the 85 monoblock is it's gonna be a little bit more rigid hogging oh boy we soon like a big track like a Ferrari it's really nice this is like f1 ok that's better faster even faster right that's better I like that I like it that's the truck I mean that thing is insane these are the kind of machines where you've got to you know they'd have GPS and positional sensors if you try to move them like in your factory to another factory you've got to have them unlocked because they regulate where and who can buy these machines because they're just that capable oh my god I've got to get keys into the machine what do you say this the DMF weighs 68 thousand pounds holy cow so e stop it be safe yeah look at the chips coming out every 5-10 minutes before Swamper this is just the this is just the coolant filter system with the scroll filter and now we can take a walk inside the machine the lighting might be terrible but it's still worth it yeah awesome flashlights step over the frame holy cow concrete composite so it's not just cast-iron it says it's concrete composite the what looks like a patio sidewalk floor in there huh that's your ball screw for your x-axis okay so we're looking straight back at the machine that's the z-axis double column right here and here and then you said the tool changer is kind of rides there you go right there yeah separate but on the same track using a belt it's into the screw yeah yeah yeah holy cow another look at that oh my sorry look at the size of the linear rails I mean look at that's my fist actually it's almost better without the light that's my fist on the linear rail look at that it's got to be three inches yeah insane you can have a little party in here squeeze does that thing that doesn't slide okay so it grabs the tool and then moves with you to z-axis screws there they've got you say they got encoders on our scale so there's your y oh yeah we're looking at the Y so where is the new one machine to 1:25 fit into this scope here it's more of it's not as rugged well this one gets five axes clattering like plate work okay um both these machines are capable they're very similar parts we're talking like a large ethical part the 125 actually in a bigger farther away and actually has a bigger diameter this is okay so you can't machine on that whole part of the 50 inches because of the things okay you have to kind of spit you could do - you know big plates or whatever spin one and then spend the table and you can only reach about nine inches past center line okay valve on a 50 inch platter and you're programming all this all these machines of fusion see ya you wanna go look at the machine I just put my head up and it's I kind of feel bad I think I saw before you did Oh No look at that insane five thousand pounds yeah this is that this is the cooler for all the balls thoroughly cooled dimensionally stable and that's where the DM FF that concrete casting for thermal deprivation has it's a huge machine your eyes in there opening the door we had these portals like shut the door let it warm back up yeah the big door just that little bit where two tools blind within a couple you know more than a couple tenths of each other the temperature change you [Music] [Music] dude yeah [Music] why the young honey comes aparts this look at that but you need the pattern oh that just channels to let the okay these are just right let's let the air yeah I'm down just by cutting the thing you have to have murder the arrows penguin is where it's actually sucking it down so you obviously can't hollow it out clean yeah Boleyn he's just sick it's awesome really nice since we film that Devon has got the 125 duo block up and running it's just insane it's the same machine that we saw when we were at the emo show in Germany which is just amazing but I want to say thank you we really appreciate him taking the time to show us around on a busy day when they're getting a new machine rigged in and really one of the most amazing shops and some of the most amazing equipment we've had the chance to see hope you enjoyed folks take care see you soon [Music]
