when i was interested in getting my very first dormant i had no idea that there were nine different colors of doberman to choose from but it's true and this video is the video that i never had the video that's gonna give you a rundown on all the different colors of dorman that exist to hopefully make your choice for your next dog a really easy one and i'm willing to bet that at least a few of these dogs when you see them is going to absolutely blow your mind and be a total complete surprise to you but yes each of these dobermans really do exist and you're about to see them in action [Music] we're gonna jump straight into this video guys but real quick before we do i want to let you know that i've done an in-depth video on each and every doberman color that exists out there uh so if during the course this video you see a doberman color you really want to learn more about take a look in the description down below you'll see one video dedicated to every single color where i go really in depth on the pros and the cons for choosing that specific color of doberman including a lot of their health concerns all right guys so let's jump into this video let's get up all the different colors of doberman up on your screen all right let's kick it off today guys with the standard black and rust colored dobermans now these dogs are also often just referred to as a black black and tan or black and brown doormans they're the classic doberman look the one that you usually see in movies and television and they're by far the most popular color of the doberman per the akc and really they have the fewest health conditions that they are prone to out of all the different colors you're going to see in this video today and arguably they're the best dog for guard work they're stealthy at night they're very hard to see and they're quickly and easily recognizable as a doberman which is very important for guard work since most people know that a dormant is not a dog you really want to mess with um they're accepted in all the dormant competitions all over the world and they're never excluded just because of their color which is something that some of the other dormant colors do struggle with now as far as the health of these black and rust dobermans like i mentioned earlier they're prone to the fewest health conditions which really is a big advantage for these dogs most of the other colors of dorban's they have at least one or two health conditions that they're a little bit more prone to just because of their color but this is not the case with the black and rust colored dormants to learn more about what makes a black and rust colored doberman special take a look in the description down below this video it'll be the first video linked to down below next up we have the red and rust colored dobermans and these are definitely great looking dogs now these dogs are often referred to as red or red and brown or just brown or chocolate dobermans and they are part of the breed standard for all the different kennel clubs all over the world for the doberman and they're really the second most popular doberman color out there according to the akc and they're probably one of the original colors dating back to the time of carl frederick lewis dorman the creator of this breed so what makes these dogs so special is well a lot of owners say they have a feisty attitude all their own these red and rust dobermans also they are the only color other than black and rust to be accepted all over the world and they're part of the breed standard for the european doberman as set by the fci and part of the breed standard for the american doberman as set by the dpca now as for the health of the red and rust dormants these dogs of course are prone to all the same health conditions that the other colors of dobermans are prone to plus they're at a little bit increased risk for some fur and skin issues usually in the form of mild hair loss and acne these conditions are usually very temporary and very treatable now of course if you want to learn more about the red and rust orbins take a look in the description below they got their own video dedicated just to them okay now moving on to the blue and rust color dobermans now these dogs are also often referred to as blue gray or silver dobermans i've even heard them referred to as purple dobermans and this is where it's starting to get interesting this video guys we're getting some more of the rare colors now these dogs are part of the breed standard for the american doverman but in europe they don't recognize this color as part of the standard doberman colors and really it's interesting these dogs were set up on a genetic level to be just a standard black and rust colored dorman's but their genetics include a color dilution gene which causes the black color of the fur to get diluted down and they come out looking this grayish or silverish or even sometimes a purplish tone to them so what makes these blue dogs so special well first of all they're relatively rare the dorham pinstripe club of america estimates that somewhere between eight to fifteen percent of all dorbans are this blue color and they're starting to make a comeback you know they were once really looked down upon by some of the doberman purists out there even called being called unfit to breed or reproduce but now they're starting to kind of make a comeback they're slowly getting more accepted and you'll even see them in the show ring um on occasion now and you know you may be able to find these dogs for a lot less money than some of this other colors because many breeders still consider them a little bit less desirable and a blue and rust colored dormant can be had usually now in the price range of around 800 and to put that in context the typical domain is between 1500 to 2500 uh now a whole lot goes into price other than just the color of course the genetic lines the breeder themselves a whole lot of other things but many owners have reported getting their blue doberman for around 800 now for the health considerations of these blue dobermans now these dogs are at increased risk for some hair and staph infections because they often have a brittle hair and they're the most prone out of all the different doberman colors to go get with something that's called color dilution alopecia or cda and this condition is also just called often blue doberman syndrome because it's so common with this color and now it doesn't affect all blue dobermans but it is very common with them and the dpca estimates that anywhere between 50 to 90 percent of all blue dormants will develop cda at some point in their lifetime and now the symptoms of this is really just hair loss dry and itchy skin and maybe often sometimes some red bumps kind of similar to acne on the skin but it's usually uh treatable and a pretty minor health condition all things considered again these dogs also have their own video linked to down below in the description if you want to learn more about the blue color before we move on guys i just want to invite you to please hit that subscribe button down below and little bell icon that comes up next to it if you haven't already that way you'll be sure not to miss the next just mind-blowing doberman video that i put out there and it really helps to support this channel of course i'd really really appreciate it all right guys let's move on let's get into some of the more exciting dormant colors that are out there okay now we're moving on to the fawn and rust color dobermans now these dogs are also often referred to as light brown or isabella colored dobermans and now we're getting to some really interesting unique dogs here guys these dogs are part of the breed standard for the american dobermans but they're not part of the standard for the european dormants and really on a genetic level these dogs were set up to be a standard red and rust colored dog but they got the color dilution gene and their genetic line which caused their red coat to get diluted down and they come out with this really interesting fawn or a light brown color to their coat now what makes these dogs so special is they are the rarest of the four standard doberman colors as recognized by the dpca for the american doberman pinscher and uh actually they estimate that they comprise of only six percent of the entire doberman population so you don't see them all that often and the other thing that makes them special is that they can be had a lot of times for a lot less than the other dogs uh just like the blue doberman some breeders consider them to be a little less desirable so it's not uncommon to find them in the 800 ish price range but of course puppy prices vary greatly now as for the health of the fawn dobermans they have all the same issues that most dobermans have plus a few additional concerns all their own the first one is they have the least amount of fur per square inch out of any of the other dormant colors and this means that they can be a little more prone to sunburns plus they are a little prone to ingrown hairs and staph infections just like the blue dormants are and they're additionally a little at increased risk for suffering from allergies now dormants in general can suffer from a lot of allergy issues but the fawn dormants seem to be a little bit more susceptible additionally they're prone to cda color dilution alopecia just like the blue dobermans are and this is really the biggest health concern of the fawns it's what sets them apart health wise from other dobermans up to 75 percent of fawns will develop cda at some point and so this means they're a little bit less likely than the blue colored dobins to get color dilution alopecia but they're still at a fairly high risk now if you want to learn more about the fawns check out their very own video dedicated just to them down in the description below all right up next is the white colored doberman we're getting deep into this now you'll often hear these dogs referred to as albino cream or ivory colored dobermans and now this is where this is starting to get really interesting guys now these dogs are really more of a light cream color and when you get them out in direct sunlight you can almost always still see the classic doberman patches of color on their chest and their muzzle and their feet and so on but it will be very faded and often very hard to see now these dogs aren't full albinoids in the classic sense of the word when you think about bino you probably think of a dog with no pigment whatsoever with pink colored eyes but that's not these dogs these dogs have blue colored eyes and a little bit of pigment so this is where things tend to get a little bit complicated the technical term for them is tyrosines positive albinoids in case you were curious but these are unique dogs that are not part of the breed standard for any of the doberman kennel clubs now what makes these dogs so special number one of course is a unique coloring to their coats and they definitely stand out in a crowd of other dobermans for sure and number two they're the most controversial color of dorman out there there are many people who believe breeding these dogs is unethical due to their high levels of inbreeding in the past due to health problems and even potentially uh behavioral problems due to this inbreeding while at the same time on the other side of the coin there are many owners of these white dorms who absolutely love these dogs and will adamantly disagree with every one of these points but that's what makes these dogs the most controversial doberman now as for the health concerns of these white colored doorbells now this is what makes them so controversial due to the lack of pigment in their skin and in their fur they are more pro prone to sunburns they're also more prone to uh skin tumors now these tumors can be cancerous or benign but they are more prone than any other color of dormant to get these skin tumors also they are prone to some vision issues due to lack of pigment in the iris of the eyes causes sunlight to go directly into the retinas and a lot of times you'll see these dogs out squinting in bright light now there's a lot more to the white dobin than just this brief overview so if you want to learn more about them again in the description below i have a video dedicated all just to the white colored dormant so you can learn more alright and up next we have the melanistic black dobermans also often referred to as just melanistic black or all black these dobermans are another very controversial dog and they're not part of the dog's breed standard in any of the doberman kennel clubs but like the white dobermans in almost all instances if you get them out in direct light you can almost always see very faint rust colored patches where the normal dormant patches are but on first glance they'll just look like a completely black colored doberman now what makes these dogs so special well first of course is a rare all-black color to their coats now we don't really know how rare that all black dormant is but we know that the rarest of the four standard colors comprises six percent of the dormant population and these dogs are certainly more rare than that so you don't see them very often the other thing is they are also a very controversial dog just like the white dormants are there are many people who are concerned about the inbreeding levels in the black dormant and of course the higher the inbreeding the more potential health effects and the shorter the lifespan but again there's many people on the other side who are adamant that the dobermans that are all black are no less healthy than any other color of doberman now as for the health of these dogs now the biggest thing i can say about the health is the potentially higher levels of inbreeding which is a major argument of those who are against the all black doberman and but this is far from a settled argument guys as to how much this affects them all dormants are inbred to some extent and this is measured by something called the coefficient of inbreeding or coi number and it's a way you can measure a dog's genetic diversity and these dogs you know because they're rare color they are certainly susceptible to the occasional backyard breeder who might care more about producing a rare color than they do about producing a genetically diverse and healthy dog so this is the main argument of those who are against the all black dobermans but it goes a lot deeper than this to learn more about the black dormants you guessed it there's a video in the description below dedicated specifically to the all black doberman now lastly you may not have known but there is such a thing as other melanistic colored abdomens meaning other colors of dorman's that are one solid color and are missing those rust or brown colored patches now this includes the melanistic red the melanistic blue and the melanistic fawn colored dobermans and these dogs are rarely acknowledged out there in the domain world but they do exist and they are one solid color of doberman and there are a handful of breeders out there who specialize in the melanistic colors many of the dogs i've listed here today guys are so controversial because of the potential for high levels of inbreeding and really it's a valid concern because the more inbred a dog is scientifically the more health problems and the shorter the lifespan that the dog has and the less inbred the more genetic diversity the dog has the longer the lifespan now how inbred a specific dog is used to be something that we used to just kind of have to guess at which is really frustrating because it's such an important thing to know it gives us a window in the longevity of your dog but luckily now this can be done super simple right at home if you want to know how to do this take a look at the video i made should we pop it up right there i use my doberman as example it's that dna testing video but you can do it on any breed of dog and the kit that i recommend in that video will work on any breed for any owner thank you so much guys don't forget links to all the videos i mentioned are in the description down below hit that subscribe button and i'll see you next time
