Alien Isolation - Story Explained

hello everyone and welcome to another story explained video in this one we'll be looking at the story behind the hit horror game from sega alien isolation if you've seen the films you've spotted how amazingly this game captured the look and feel of the movie franchise this game fits in directly between the 1979 film alien and its 1986 sequel aliens not to mention it's absolutely bloody terrifying but that's enough intro let's dive in the year is 2137 15 years after the disappearance of ellen ripley ellen's daughter amanda is an engineer and is approached by a representative of weyland-yutani corporation we'll get to them later on samuels and android advises amanda that the black box recorder unit from her mother's lost ship that nostromo has been found and is being held aboard a freeport station which is orbiting kg 348 a gas giant amanda subsequently joins the team aboard the torrens a cargo ship that has been tasked by weyland yutani corporation to retrieve the recorder unit however when they arrive sevastopol is unresponsive and shows signs of damage amanda and two others samuels and taylor attempt to spacewalk over to sebastopol but their line is cut by debris and amanda gets separated from the others amanda eventually locates the black box but the data has been corrupted after coming across the alien aka xenomorph she travels to the communications area of sebastopol to contact samuels who tells us that the androids aboard sevastopol are trying to prevent people communicating with the outside again we'll find out why later on the other person who tried to board sebastopol taylor is critically injured and he's a trauma kit so amanda sets off for the medical center to find one amanda is making her way to samuel's location when an explosion knocks her down amanda comes to and continues on amanda finds out that the explosion was a trap set by the colonial marshals marshall weights and ricardo weitz explains that the alien was bought on board by the anisa dora captained by marlow and this is the ship that found the black box recorder from the nostromo the anissadora were following the flight data from the nostromo's black box recorder and came across a derelict ship on lv-426 this is the same ship that nostromo were investigating they entered the lower depths of the derelict and one of its crew foster was attacked and impregnated by a facehugger the anisodora crew didn't know of this impregnation and as a result foster gave birth to a chest burster which in turn grew to fully grow an alien within a few hours attacking anyone on the station after the prior explosion failed to kill the alien a new plan was formulated the idea was that amanda would lure the alien into a different part of the station which could be separated from sevastopol and jettisoned or fired into the gas giant destroying the alien however waits jettisons it towards the gas giant with amanda still inside it she manages to escape by completing a rather dangerous and ambitious space jump and somehow reaches the airlock the creature is killed and amanda makes it aboard sevastopol again on a way to confront weights she hears him on the radio being confronted by an android who kills him and ricardo tells amanda that the working joes as they are called are killing all remaining inhabitants ricardo mentions that samuels has gone to try and make contact with apollo the ai which controls sevastopol and all the working joe androids on it however as a defense mechanism inside apollo kills samuels amanda finds out that apollo is trying to protect the xenomorph amanda makes contact with apollo herself and asks apollo why it's still trying to protect the alien if it's already been killed as a result apollo directs amanda to the reactor core where she finds a nest all the original victims of the alien have been cocooned down there in order for them to be hosts for more xenomorphs amanda has to purge the reactor core to destroy the nest and all the aliens along with it but as she does this the remaining aliens escape onto the station ricardo tells ripley that taylor was also sent by weyland yutani to protect the xenomorph as a result she frees marlowe in exchange for the location of the derelict ship but marlow took taylor hostage instead and returned to a ship with the intention of overloading his own ship's fusion reactor to destroy himself sevastopol and all of the xenomorphs on board when amanda gets to the anisa door to stop marlow he shows her the black box recorder with a message from her mother explaining that she destroyed the nostromo as this alien species cannot be able to find its way to earth marlow explains that he's doing this because he feels the same that this alien is too dangerous and must be destroyed taylor attacks marlow knocking him out and ripley and taylor stop the overload but an electrical overload occurs instead killing taylor amanda escapes back onto sevastopol and needs to realign a dish in order to contact the torrens so they can escape but ricardo is killed by a facehugger the torrens docks however the umbilical brakes so ripley needs to do a space walk to the torrens one thing about this game is that you can assure that if it can go wrong it will go wrong but just as she's about to do this an alien attacks her and she ends up cocooned in another nest but breaks free just in time amanda wakes her way back up to the eva suits again and has to manually release docking clamps so that the torons can get loose from its mooring she just about escapes with sebastopol disintegrating and being destroyed by the gas giant however in one last but very predictable twist amanda loses contact with villain the torrance captain and discovers a xenomorph on board amanda lures the xenomorph into the airlock and blasts herself and the alien into deep space amanda is floating through space and her light shines on her face and the game ends as mentioned before this game set in 2137 acts as an in-between for alien set in 2122 and its sequel aliens set in 2179 those of you who have seen the movies will know that ellen ripley battled with elon xenomorph on the nostromo and boarded the narcissus destroying the alien and the nostromo however the alien was on board the narcissus with her but due to ripley's quick thinking she blasted the alien out of the airlock after this ordeal ripley went into hyper sleep with jones the cat and is woken up 57 years later after a salvage ship finds the narcissus floating through deep space during these 57 years the events of alien isolation have already taken place as we see throughout the films ripley senior eventually becomes impregnated by a queen somehow and dies after she throws herself into molten lead to kill herself and then comes back again as a clone in the worst alien film of the lot but that's another confusing narrative that we won't dive into right now the alien or the xenomorph is an extraterrestrial life form and is extremely hostile the alien amanda encounters on board sebastopol is known as an alien drone they're essentially considered to be worker aliens constructing a hive and protecting it at all costs they also find victims and cocoon them in the nest in order to use them as human hosts the life cycle of the alien is that a queen lays eggs in these eggs grow face huggers that seek out a host to impregnate with a parasite and then after a few hours a chest burster smashes through the rib cage of the victim killing them this chest bursts carries off and finds a place where it can grow into a fully grown alien over the course of a few hours this xenomorph sports incredible predatorial advantages one being a defensive mechanism where its blood is literally made of acid the fact that there were eggs on sevastopol means that there was a queen somewhere on board but even if there was we don't encounter it due to the reactor purge it's very likely that the queen was killed during this purge so that's the alien but we have a chicken and egg scenario here how did the alien first come to be it's a long story and the alien has many iterations but let's dive in in this section we'll explain how the alien came to be to do this we need to deviate slightly from the world of gaming and jump into the world of cinema way back when in prehistoric earth times a spaceship seems to drop off a man certainly not fully human and leaves the man known as an engineer drinks some sort of black goo which instantly causes a reaction in his body and his body starts disintegrating and he falls into the water this causes life to begin and through millions of years of evolution this is how humans came to be on earth millions of years after this event in 2089 two archaeologists named shaw and holloway determined to find the source of life on earth find ancient star maps and drawings on the walls around the world which seem to depict the engineers and people worshiping them the whaling corporation funds an expedition to lv-223 one of the three moons of the gas giant kalpamos located in the star system of zeta reticuli long story short they come across the remnants of some engineers one still alive in stasis and they find some ampules which contain the same black goo from before they find the head of one of the engineers and study its dna and find it to have human dna so humans came from the engineers a malicious android called david took one of the ampoules and infects one of the archaeologists holloway with black substance unaware of the infection holloway engages in intercourse with his partner shaw holloway gets worse dies and shaw discovers that she is three months pregnant despite being unable to get pregnant previously and also only having had sex 10 hours earlier she attempts to get whatever it is out of her and this turns out to be one of the first ever face huggers known as a trilobite as seen here when shaw later discovers it still in the medical bay it's growing to an enormous size the engineer who is in stasis awoke again this is a long story and is trying to kill shaw the engineer fights the face hugger but succumbs and surprise surprise the first xenomorph is born through human dna mixing with the black goo this iteration of xenomorph is known as the deacon around 10 years later a new crew intercepts a message and arrives on a planet called planet 4. during investigation one of the crew disturbs some plants by stepping on them and some black spores likely in iteration of the black goo enter his ear canal hours later he gives birth to a new version of the xenomorph called the neomorph david appears again long story to have been mutating these creatures playing god so to speak and has several eggs which house face huggers a facehugger attacks one of the crew members impregnates him and in turn gives birth to the xenomorph as we know it starting out as just being the weyland corporation founded by peter weyland in 2012 this company specialized in advanced technologies and planet colonization after the death of peter weyland a japanese cybernetics company named the yutani corporation merged with the weyland corporation in 2099 and the merger gave birth to the weyland yutani corporation also known by many as at the company this company now chose to focus primarily on technology and manufacturing synthetics or androids despite focusing on advancements which would improve the human race and bring forward life-changing technologies this corporation committed horrific acts of corporate profiteering fully willing to sacrifice human lives to achieve their goals and to make money kind of like the umbrella corporation but in space a common theme throughout the films is that whale and yutani are desperate to get their hands on a xenomorph they say they want to study it but we all know the real reason for this is so they can breed it and sell it to the highest bidder as a xenomorph as a buyer weapon would be worth a lot of money we see this desperation to catch a xenomorph in alien isolation as we find a document which states that weyland yutani purchased sevastopol just before the taurens arrived something crazy just happened sebastopol is off the market we got a buyer the weeks before they start taking the place apart and they u-turn after all those endless presentations and tours i guess the talks weren't stalled at all someone a company headquarters just had to click his fingers the message of confirmation just came in apollo is currently receiving a packet of new operation rule sets so i guess the deal's sealed now this is board level need to know stuff until it's announced to shareholders quite the promotion huh this is because the anissa dora who found the black box recorder unit had the location of the derelict ship where the alien eggs were located weyland-yutani needed this location and because marlowe disabled the distress signal on the derelict the black box unit was the only way they could find the location the company sent taylor and instructed weights to capture the creature and because they bought sevastopol this also allowed them to reconfigure the ai apollo to protect the xenomorph whale and yutani were aware of the alien the whole time ever since prometheus this is why in the first alien film the nostromo's android was replaced by another one ash who is programmed to protect the xenomorph hence why he convinced the crew to investigate the distress signal from the derelict so kane could be attacked and impregnated and why he tried to kill ripley amanda hated waylon yutani for what happened to her mother and she comes off as cold to samuels when first meeting him the moment that he mentions that he works for the company we know that ash was aggressive because he'd been programmed by weyland yutani to preserve the xenomorph at all costs bueno nutani after buying sevastopol and reconfiguring apollo had programmed the androids on board to do the same to protect the alien life form weyland-yutani had identified any remaining human survivors as a threat to their goals and the androids had also been tasked with preventing the survivors calling for help via radio transmissions as seen when the android attacks this poor guy after the events of alien isolation we see amanda floating through space and a light shines on her face ending the game but the reality is that a lot actually happened between the point that amanda blasted herself out of the airlock and being picked up amanda attempted to repair the boosters on her eva suit as they had been presumably damaged on blasting herself out of the airlock amanda saw a communications transmitter floating and attempted to intercept its path but as she got closer to the location she realized that several xenomorphs were attached to nearby debris sleeping or hibernating despite this she managed to get to the beacon and plugged into it to activate a distress signal after three days she was found by a searchlight years later in aliens we see that amanda has passed away from cancer age 66 she had been married but didn't have any children given that the entire game was about amanda finding closure on what happened to her mother we don't actually find out if amanda ever really did find closure ripley woke up 57 years after entering cryosleep so they never reconciled that's for sure the only information that ripley senior knows is that she was in hypersleep for so long that her daughter had grown up and died before she'd even been woken up
