I just got review access to Allen wake 2 along with the day one drivers and I've got to test out if these headlines are actually going to end up being legit like Allen wake 2 will only run at Native 1080p High settings no Ray tracing for only around 7% of all PC players this is coming from the game's incredibly demanding system requirements list that I've already done a video about uh where it shows that you might need to make heavy use of upscaling in order to hit reasonable frame rate targets now that being said early uh you know released footage of the game does look incredible especially in the game's path tracing mode this is also an Nvidia Showcase of a ray reconstruction Technologies path tracing frame Generation all of that so we'll definitely want to play around with that but also can older gpus run it and again we've seen headlines saying that cards from the GTX 10 series are not supported at all due to a lack of mesh shaders along with amd's 5000 series gpus and earlier and that was coming from this tweet which was then later deleted by an Al Allen wake 2 developer so I've got to dig into this so the main focus of this video is going to be diving into the system requirements list by testing out some of the gpus on this list but before we get to the supported gpus from the list and see if the performance is actually this demanding let's all first dig into the 10 series can it actually boot the game and if so how does it go and then towards the end we'll look into the path tracing mode mode how good does it look how about Ray reconstruction all of that um anyway let's just dive in and see how much time I have to get to get through these gpus um let's go ahead and check it out if you try to start Allen wake 2 on a GTX 10 series or earlier card you get this message your GPU does not support all the recommended features this might lead to poor performance visual glitches or crashes a GPU with the following additional features is recommended mesh shaders okay let's see if the game will at least start so I've played this game for about an hour at this point although uh primarily on the well really exclusively on the RTX 4090 more on that in a bit but uh let's try it out on the unsupported 10 series GPU now this is interesting because um this will be a little bit of a loading screen I'll kind of talk over it because again as reported by a game developer the system requirements for this game made waves and then a game developer piped in with a tweet saying uh that the gpus without mesh Shader support it does require Hardware support are not supported at all at least officially by The Game and sure enough we're getting this warning and let's go ahead and try to load in here you can see our frame rate is around 16 frames per second although you know the graphics look nice obviously our frame rate is not where we want to be and we haven't crashed yet so that's at least uh something now um can I run around a bit it looks like I can run around a bit and you know what things like I said look pretty nice we're at about 20 frames per second though so performance leaves a lot to be desired we're currently at 1080p native rendering resolution and the uh Graphics preset is low so we're already on the low preset and um looks like that pretty much did everything set everything low so we could go further than below low I guess we could turn off Global reflection screen SSR entirely and it looks like also scattered object density could be lowered uh Ray tracing is completely off and just unsupported on a 10 series card uh so yeah that's how we are doing at 1080p low in this game now again though you might notice that low settings in this game do look a lot better than the low settings do in a lot of other games so it does have that going for it um but should I should I try kicking this up to high just to see what happens let's kick it up to high uh by the way the graphics do seem to adjust um in game uh without necessarily requiring a restart at least on my RTX 4090 testing I did um try adjusting them they visually seem to take uh take effect and then I restarted the game and notied the same frame rate and same visuals uh anyway so yeah looks like uh High Ultra anything it's just not really um not really going to be performing super well here so we could try upscaling so let's try going down to uh a 720p internal resolution so that's FSR 2 quality and then it uses again FSR 2 to try to Output a uh a 1080p like image so if we run up and down the road here we're now uh you know into the mid 20s although it looks like we're definitely dipping into the teens as we run a bit here but again despite this being uh unsupported officially it is actually booting the game it didn't just break um now obviously this isn't an extensive enough play test to judge stability overall but if they're saying this lead to poor performance I mean we're certainly seeing poor performance whether or not that's caused entirely by the mesh Shader or support or lack thereof I don't know let's go down to 540p so 540p internal rendering resolution reconstructed with FSR 2 2A 1080p output do we hit the magic 30 frames per second it's kind of looking like the answer is no especially not when we're moving look we're dropping down to the teens while we're while we're moving at times you can you can see the 1% lows are dipping to around 11 FPS if you watch the frame time graph you got those stutters going up and down and yeah as I Pan the camera I don't know if you guys noticed but it's kind of choppy as I Pan the camera uh so hm we did like I say have a few settings that I guess we could try turning below low so Global Reflections off screens SSR off uh object density low so we're at 540p and we are below the low preset um well it's uh it's not it's it's not 30 frames per second in fact we're dipping into the teens again and we're still getting some of those stuttering spikes now I'm going to try panning the camera on a controller this time the camera pan feels smoother on the controller than it did on my Mouse um on my mouse it almost feels like it it kind of jumps from place to place a little bit less smoothly that's interesting the uh the camera pan on the controller feels a bit less jumpy I don't know interesting stuff but I think the conclusion is our performance here isn't great and guess what did you know that the forest area that you start out in performs even worse than this city area so let's take a quick look at that um by city I guess I mean small rural town but um yeah in this Forest Area with all of this uh foliage density um right yeah the performance can be even lower again even at low settings the um you know the foliage density and detail is still fairly high so I mean there's certainly a lot of graphics on display but um yeah it's looking like the 1070 has no chance here I don't have it 1080ti to see what a more powerful 10 series GPU could or could not do in this game so now let's go to The Other Extreme and or actually no let's go to the 2060 the 2060 is the minimum GPU for this game so the minimum system requirement is a 2060 let's see how that does all right we've popped in the RTX 2060 this is the official minimum requirement for the game and we're running around 30 frames per second in this heavily forested area I did try testing out in the actual town that I showed earlier and performance was significantly higher but since the forest is is much more demanding I think that uh this makes more sense as more of a benchmark sort of area to see how we're doing here's the settings again if we're on the dlss pathway then if you don't uh lower the resolution it does say that it is still using daa we could switch over to the fs R2 pathway and now it says native internal uh unclear to me whether that's actually using the FSR 2 for anti-aliasing purposes potentially um but performance doesn't seem drastically different we still seem to be around 30 frames per second here we're at 31 bouncing between 31 and 32 uh switching back over to this uh dlss pathway giving it a second to settle again around around 3132 so they seem to be about the same either way now we're already on the low preset so that's pretty much all we can do there like I said there's a few other settings that we could kick down beyond the actual low preset um but that's pretty much where we're at now the system requirement suggested using dlss quality to render the game at an internal resolution of 720p upscale using dlss and that was what the system requirements were based off of if I go ahead and kick on the um the uh frame rate counter as I kind of run around here a little bit we'll see how we do and it looks like we are in the uh 40s or so much of the time like I said the town itself uh when I was just kind of running down the street was performing a lot higher but I think this forested area like I said makes a little bit more sense um as a test I haven't played anywhere near enough of the game uh to know where the most demanding areas of the game are yet or anything like that but hey so it looks like 40ish frames per second is possible dlss quality in in the forest uh if we did want to push things farther all the way down to Performance mode upscaling Let's see if it is possible to hit 60 frames per second and it's uh I'll restart the frame rate counter but yeah looks like even at dlss performance mode at the low preset uh we are going to be in the 40s so looks like the 2060 is definitely going to be able to play the game but you're not going to be hitting 60 frames per second even if you're willing to crank the upscaling to pretty extreme levels uh the other thing we could look at is again the game does have R tracing this is a heavily R traced title but you can see our performance numbers are already so low uh I could try kicking on Ray tracing low which looks like it it kicks on some direct lighting um uh by the way this game does feature Ray reconstruction this is the second game to have that option also looks like we get some transparence transparency Reflections um but it looks like that has dropped us down um oh sorry shifted to her uh mind Palace anyway yeah looks like we're below 30 frames per second and that is even with like I said we're already using dlss performance mode so it looks like the r retracing on the 2060 is not going to be worth it let's go ahead and try out the 3060 all right we're on the RTX 3060 now and this GPU is recommended on the system requirements list for medium settings at 1440p with dlss balanced and we'll definitely test that out but first I figured okay let's try out the medium preset uh but first let's just check how we do at Native 1080p medium preset and just kind of run around and see what happens so we're in this foresty area which seemed to be the more demanding area I've been to so far and let's go ahead and run around a bit it's looking like we're around 40 frames per second which again this game at least the bits of it I've played so far does feel fairly slow paced and all that um looks like we're dipping into the mid-30s definitely when I was looking the other direction here we're back up into uh the 40s and yeah averaging right around 40 in the forested area area so it is looking like at medium settings uh the game is absolutely playable but definitely not 60 frames per second so we'll try out a little bit of upscaling and then probably also take a look at what if we turn down to low settings but first let's go ahead and kick on quality upscaling so 108 uh so uh 1080p output 720p internal resolution dlss upscaling we're at the medium Graphics preset let's go ahead and see what happens uh we get a healthy frame rate boost but it's looking like mid-50 s and let's go ahead and run around a bit and see if uh see how that does in motion yeah in motion looks a little bit more demanding down this area we're down kind of the mid 40s uh so yeah even uh with dlss balance we're definitely not hitting 60 FPS in this forested area let's go ahead and go all the way down to dlss Performance mode this is again 1080p medium performance mode is a 540p internal resolution when you try to Output to uh 1080p looking like around 60 frames per second running around this way if I go ahead and uh looks like there's maybe more shadows and trees going this way we're down to around 50 so we're we're definitely not able to lock 60 frames per second on a um uh you know in in the more demanding area but it looks like we will go over 60 FPS at times so it certainly looks like depends on what we'll be going on on screen now before we adjust off the medium preset let's actually try out what these system requirements recommended which was for 1440p resolution dlss balanced at the medium Graphics preset and the system requirements listed this as recommended for uh a 30 frames per second uh experience at these settings and as I go down this uh this foresty pathway which again I'm sure is not the most demanding scene in the game we are dipping into the upper 30s so um yeah definitely seems like these system requirements there weren't necessarily uh you know again system requirements let's say 30 or 60 they don't usually mean exactly 30 or 60 like 30 usually means you're definitely not locking 60 and it will get down to 30 at times but as we're seeing here you know you'll probably be over 30 a lot of the time so that certainly seemed to be absolutely um you know uh in line with what the system requirements were saying if I go all the way down to dlss balanced which would be a 720p internal resolution at the medium preset it looks like we are uh low 40s is running through that more difficult area up in the 50s here but yeah certainly not um super high frame rates or anything like that however the other thing I want to do is okay what if we're using this as a 1080p card I do want to look at the scaling um between the different um uh graphic settings on this card so we're back to Native 1080p let's get a feel for just staring this direction we're at about 42 frames per second and then I'm interested in what if we actually uh turn down to the low settings like I said I haven't tested it thoroughly but you can see in the background it does definitely adjust some of the settings on the Fly I have tried restarting the game a couple of times on the 4090 at least and it did seem to apply correctly without requiring the restart looks like going down to low settings does get us to about 50 frames per second there compared to where we were at on the medium settings uh and then let's check the scalability going up to the high preset which again some things can actually be turned up past High I noticed that it actually leaves some settings at medium it's not even going uh all the way it looks like at the high preset we're down to around 39 just staring in this direction so there is some scalability uh but again if we're going from the high setting at 39 uh back down to the low setting giving it a second to kick in there the low setting at 50 so we're going from 39 to 50 by going from the high preset to the low preset so there's not a massive amount of scalability within the graphics presets a lot more of the scalability seems to be designed to come from the upscaling settings uh so it's only by combining those that I think we're going to get much of a frame rate boost and that's what I was suspicious about when I when I looked at the system requirements so this certainly looks like a game that is just going to it's going to look good on all the settings the low settings look good um and the uh the medium settings good you know High looks even better all that we didn't look at Ray tracing yet on the 3060 uh it's looking like here at low settings with dlss uh we are able to be close to 60 frames per second at uh 1080p uh at least in this scene again if there's more more demanding scenes in the game it's looking like you you know you probably would uh dip below 60 at times I'm sure but anyway I think that's enough on the 3060 uh let's go ahead and pop in the 3070 which which was the next recommended GPU all right this is the RTX 3070 and this was one of the big standouts in the system requirements charts where they claimed that the uh 3070 would be a uh medium settings 1080p GPU but only if using dlss at the performance mode for a 540p internal resolution which was the part that was kind of shocking now right now we're at 1080p medium settings with no dlss and uh at least where I'm at it seems like we're actually pretty dang close to 60 frames per second so I'm going to run around here a little bit and see if we run into any problems it certainly looks like we're very close to 8 GB of vram we are over seven so I mean potentially in if there's scenes that do use more vram I wonder if we would run into any issues related to that but at least it's looking like in this forested area I'm in right now it's looking like 1080p native medium settings is much closer to 60 frames per second but again it's absolutely possible that there are significantly more demanding areas of the game later on and perhaps that those system requirements were kind of uh based more on that if we do go ahead and go down to the performance mode upscaling which is what the system requirements recommended uh we do get a boost to Performance uh looks like we're now into the 70s and 80s and so I could imagine a more difficult area of the game than maybe tanking this to around the 60 FPS mark But like I mean we're up in the '90s here and again the town that I've tested out so far was actually easier to run than this so again I'm not super far into the game but I'd actually say that this one feels like at least where I've been so far maybe the system requirements list uh seemed worse than what it is but again I'm dipping to seven 71 right here 72 73 so I you know certainly if there is a scene that's a lot more demanding than this one I could actually see maybe that being um being a bit of an issue now I think it would also make sense for us to look at 1440p on this GPU since that is um I think where a lot of people would have uh bought this GPU for so now we're at Native 1440p and we're still at the medium settings and now it looks like we're down to around uh into the 30s certainly looking a bit rough here 30s 40s kind of mid-40s but that's native let's see what we get with dlss Quality dlss quality at 1440p is look uh I think looks quite good here does get us a bit of a performance boost we're certainly not at 60 frames per second but we're you know close-ish in the in the 50s can kind of depend on what's going on on screen obviously and then um yeah it seems like we're close to 60 there and again there would be some scalability either going down to a lower internal resolution or you know we could go down to the low settings if we go down to the low settings this is also with dlss quality giving it a second to process yeah looks like we're in the in the 60s again at least in this scene which I can by no means guarantee is representative of the entire game or anything like that so yeah this doesn't look anywhere near as crazy as um as a systems requirement seem to make it seem unless maybe there are some scenes that are like I said a lot more demanding let's go ahead and check out the 4070 which is the next recommended GPU all right we're now on the RTX 4070 which is listed in the system requirements both as a high settings 4K GPU but rendering from a 1080p internal resolution as well as a 1080p but upscaled uh Ray tracing GPU for the medium path tracing mode what are we doing right now well right now we're taking look at 1080p native but I'm on the high preset so we have kicked the gang game up to high and right now we're at 1080p native resolution and no frame generation or anything like that let's go ahead and run around here it looks like we do have a GPU that is Comfortably playing the high settings um looks like over 60 FPS I mean we're dipping into the mid-60s here ooh low 60s here we did see it as low as 61 and again like I said most likely will be places more demanding in the game than this so uh you know 4070 does look like it can handle 1080p here um at the highest settings but let's go ahead and kick up to 1440p resolution and see how we do cuz I think realistically most people buying a 4070 are more likely on a 1440p screen uh looks like 1440p high settings we are definitely under 60 frames per second we're dipping into the 50s here if I turn back around and run down this way which seems be a little bit more demanding we are dipping into the upper 40s at times uh so yeah does not look like you're going to be um uh at the high preset even without Ray tracing without upscaling if you want to hit 60 frames per second again this game doesn't seem super fast-paced so maybe you're fine with being a bit under it if we go to dlss quality though at the high preset uh looks like we're boosting uh frame rates up into the 70s here and I do think that the dlss implementation the more I play around with it in this game I'm not noticing a lot of um objectionable uh image issues at least from what I've played so far so it looks like um this definitely would be a good way to get some performance here and uh Things Are looking pretty good so let's go ahead and test out what these system requirements actually uh actually were saying here which was a 4K resolution I really think that's an interesting choice because I I don't think most people buying a 4070 are buying it for 4K uh but they wanted it at dlss performance mode at the high preset this was one of the things uh that we were listed this card for so let's go ahead and kick on the bench Mark counter and see how we go looks like we are a little bit under 60 looks like we're down into the 50s and rolling this way looks like we're down into the 40s let me go ahead and double check that uh I've got everything where it's supposed to be yeah 4K resolution uh dlss performance mode at the high preset that is I'm double-checking the system requirements off screen here and yeah that's what they said it looks like they uh overstated the abilities of the 4070 here now another thing I want to bring up because this came up in some people's uh you know articles and coverage of this game is yes this is an internal rendering resolution of 1080p right now and notice we're below 60 frames per second but dlss itself has a performance cost so if we go back to a native 1080p resolution uh and don't upscale if I just go to um the the native 1080p here I'd like you guys to notice that our performance is higher than it is trying to Output 4K using a 1080p input into dlss because dlss uh reconstruction has a performance cost right so uh when people were saying that only using that number to just explain like which gpus only 7% of gpus can play the game at 1080p uh and trying to use that stat to do it they're just forgetting about the performance cost of that upscale so anyway the other thing that this was listed for was Ray tracing performance and um so here's where and it was specifically saying the ray tracing medium preset at 1080p resolution but they were saying dlss quality um and this was to hit 60 frames per second I I again I wonder if they're Factor well let's let's see how performance goes yeah I wonder if maybe that explains it I wonder if on the 40 series cards they were assuming frame generation would be part of it which is really not the same thing as more performance it Smooths out the image in motion uh but does not actually make the game more responsive now in a slower paced game like this that could be totally fine uh and again I haven't upscaled yet so that was native 1080p um let's go ahead and kick on dlss quality this is now what the system requirements were claiming uh would be a 60 frames per second experience and wow actually looks like the path tracing mode is uh is responding extremely well to upscaling I think a fewer Ray bounces and you get a lot of performance back with uh resolution scaling uh when you're using these heavy Ray tracing modes um doesn't look like we're locking to 60 frames per second but we are close to it and again we do then get the option of frame generation if we wanted to use it and I think our performance is high enough here that um the game will probably still pretty uh feel pretty responsive uh if we do go ahead and enable that and it will smooth out the image quality um in motion I've notic in the foliage if you're moving pretty quickly I think sometimes the tree branches feel like they garble a little bit I don't know if you guys will pick that up in the video um so it's not absolutely perfect reconstruction in these heavily uh forested areas I think that that's a difficult thing for the frame generation to deal with but but overall especially if you're moving the camera more slowly playing on a controller and stuff I think it does uh this might be my preferred way to play um because I think uh I I think overall it's it's a net benefit from from what I did play and I did play around with a bit on my 490 um anyway I don't think this is the best scene to show off the The Path tracing though so I actually want to load into the uh into the the town scene here so what I want to to look at is a scene where the reflections are going to be more noticeable and then look at the um how the uh sorry losing my train of thought while I'm uh okay so basically let's look at this so this is again dlss quality at 1080p internal resolution with frame generation on I think this town scene looks very good with the path tracing mode and like the puddles and things I think this is a better scene to kind of admire the ray tracing a bit if we want to look at this because again this is a uh Nvidia Tech showcase game with all the ray tracing and all that and notice what I was saying about this scene being easier to run here with all these settings on we're over 130 frames per second um I'm going to go ahead and kick off the frame generation for the purposes of what we're about to do here though and um I'm actually curious if we could go back to Native 1080p this SCS a bit easier to run so you guys can see in this scene uh were close to 60 frames per second now I want us to look at the effects of the path tracing mode uh on these puddles and things so let's go Ray tracing off so this is back to the high preset Ray tracing off the scene still looks quite good without all that uh but you can see in the puddles as you Pan the camera do you see that uh the the reflections disappear when the objects that they're reflecting aren't on screen that's a screen space Reflections artifact and let's go ahead and play with the ray tracing settings uh a little bit here if I go to the low Ray tracing setting um uh sorry that was just the path trace and direct lighting here's the preset sorry so if I go to the low Ray tracing preset uh we get transparency Reflections but I don't think we'll get the puddle Reflections and we get some direct lighting so this definitely takes a performance hit but not like insanely uh perform performance hit but yeah we still don't get those nice puddle Reflections I haven't played enough of the game to be sure you know how many scenes that's going to be a big deal in or not certainly in uh the developers previous game control it was in like every scene all the time uh if we go to the medium preset we are now getting um path traced indirect lighting at medium transparencies up to high we still get the direct lighting all of that and let's give it a second to kick in here and and I think we are now getting like the uh the character there with the uh coffee outfit is still reflected in the reflections you know and the reflections do look quite nice I'm interested here to take a look at the effects of um of the uh Ray reconstruction cuz this is the only the second game to feature this so let's kick the ray reconstruction off so Ray reconstruction off looking at the puddle here and the performance so actually let's let's look at performance we're at 52 53 frames per second or so here let's kick the ray reconstruction back on I want to play around with this a little bit I'm curious if it does anything when we're not actually in dlss mode um it looks like it is I think the puddle does look sharper cuz I think we're using a daa a pathway and this does seem to be working with it cuz our performance is slightly better here we're at 56 and so it does look like it is a performance saver at least in this medium path tracing mode again sorry kick that back off and I think there is less definition to the Reflections in the puddle and we're down to 52 FPS again uh in motion uh there can be a little bit of uh El Leasing and breakup on that uh that reflection and if I go ahead and kick that R reconstruction back on still maybe a little break up in motion but I think overall it does perform better and possibly even look a little bit better with the uh with the ray reconstruction on anyway I think the path tracing mode looks quite good it's really nice in in these Reflections as well as the lighting and all that but this is not going to be enough time for me to do a thorough in-depth analysis of all this you know maybe digital Foundry will take a look at it or something uh let's go ahead and pop in a 4090 and see what happens or should we check if the rate tracing is doable at 1440p uh this is the less demanding scene I don't know I I only have so much time here let's pop in the 4090 and just admire the game it Maxs everything all right we're now on the RTX 4090 and we're getting around 100 frames per second and that is at 1440p at the high preset without the ray tracing uh but Mo a lot of people you know I actually think a lot of people would by a 4090 at 1440p and I don't think it's wasted there in these latest most graphically demanding games but let's go ahead and see how it does at 4K so in the same scene it looks like at 4K resolution the 4090 is just right a little bit over 60 frames per second now what would happen if we went ahead and kicked on the uh the ray tracing settings so let's go ahead and just absolutely crank everything so we're going to go to the I keep kicking that instead of the preset to the ray tracing preset high kick all of it on and let's go ahead and see what happens looks like we're under 30 frames per second so it does uh take quite a big performance hit I am curious if I go ahead and um mess with the uh aray reconstruction what'll happen but you know what first let's at least do dlss quality so if we go to dlss Quality no frame generation at least in this same scene looking here we did get up into the 40s and again I'm interested in playing around with that uh Ray reconstruction setting since we have it if I go ahead and turn Ray reconstruction off takes it a second to process yeah looks like performance dropping to around 41 and actually I think the character looks a little more Alias around the hair and stuff like that um maybe I'm crazy I'm going to go ahead and kick Ray reconstruction back on but it is uh certainly looking like a performance boost and I think also an image quality boost I'm going to go ahead and kick it back on yeah I do think the little details in the hair are less alist it's a little more put together all of that um so RTX 490 dlss quality totally trying to max out the game let's go ahead and run around at these settings a little bit that's probably going to be a bit more taxing than just staring at the one spot uh but yeah we're kind of in the 40s it's playable especially at a slower paced game like this but probably not the kinds of frame rates that people who bought an RTX 490 are looking for H and I I think that's a little bit too low of a baseline in my opinion for um frame generation some people will be uh more okay with that than others um let's go down to the balanced preset on the uh on the dlss upscaling that's getting us into the 50s uh running around this way yeah kind of in the lower 50s running around this way again you can use frame generation from these settings I prefer to be closer to 60 let's see what happens if we kick on dlss performance so dlss performance looks like we are very close to 60 frames per second now still dipping into the 50s so yeah the game absolutely maxed out with all of the path tracing and everything is certainly quite demanding however the game feels very responsive and playable at 60 frames per second here and again we do have the option of kicking on frame generation if we do want to make things um a lot more smoother on the uh camera pans things like that feel a bit more responsive in motion and this is a high enough base frame rate that I do think it it feels uh feels pretty good for the hour or so I did play the game up till this point these were mostly the settings I was using I was enjoying the path tracing goodness I actually think the 1080p upscale in this game isn't really bothering me too badly I think the dlss is looking pretty good here on my 4K screen uh even in performance mode and um I do think the frame generation again in fast motion camera pans around the uh the trees and things I I occasionally catch a bit of uh uh garble stuff when I'm when I'm looking for it but I don't find it too intrusive in the um uh normal gameplay and such one more thing I wanted to look at here was um well I don't know if we want to I don't think I can adjust settings easily in the M Palace so actually never never mind on that also this video is getting super long it's getting super late I need to go to bed soon so and I still need to edit everything together so anyway um maybe I could look more detail at the image quality of the the path tracing and side by sides and things like that but I wanted this video to be more about the performance itself hopefully you guys found it interesting I'll give you guys some uh final thoughts here uh outside of the game all right so what did we learn from all of that testing well first of all uh the thing about the GTX 10 series gpus with mesh shaders well the game did boot but it gave us a warning and it did not run well so it's certainly looking like there's at least performance issues and perhaps if I had played the game longer possibly stability issues but can't confirm that uh so this certainly seems to be absolutely no joke now when it comes to the other heading uh headlines about the 1080p only around 7% of gpus which was based on a claim in the system requirements chart noticing that a 4 4K output at dlss performance is a 1080p rendering resolution and requiring an RTX 4070 to hit 60 FPS at those settings uh again I showed in my testing here that that's a bit uh that's not quite true because basically uh rendering dlss performance is 1080p internal rendering resolution but then the Reconstruction to the 4K output takes a lot of performance overhead so then when we compared that to just running the game at 1080 p natively on the 4070 performance was a lot better so basically I think that that was uh people missing the fact that that reconstruction has a performance cost now that being said the game is certainly very demanding however all the gpus here including the 2060 you know were able to play the game but uh when it comes to the scaling in the game I will say that from low to high uh you know you didn't have a a massive amount of performance scalability in those Graphics presets however um the game did respond to the uh you know dlss upscaling so this is another one of those games we're seeing recently we've SE we've been seeing these a lot where the graphics uh presets don't have a massive amount of performance gains to be had and going beyond that does seem to come from the upscaling and that seems to be a growing Trend and I think that likely due to the fact that you know the lower settings are probably targeting the consoles but right now we're not looking at crossgen games we're looking at games targeting you know PlayStation 5 Xbox series X and so if their lower settings are based on those kinds of targets and then PC can push Beyond those uh I I think that's where it is where uh we're used to games where they were still targeting like a PlayStation 4 or an Xbox uh Xbox One where they would have low settings going all the way down to those types of settings and that provided a lot more scalability uh since we're kind of past that cross gen phase I think this is going to be more of what we see and we've seen that the consoles themselves are generally quite reliant on upscaling uh to hit their performance and output resolution targets so we're seeing that a lot happening on PC here and that certainly seems to be the case in this game now I wish I had more time to get you guys nice side by sides really analyzing the ray tracing the path tracing Ray reconstruction um all of that we were able to test it a little bit here uh but I will say overall this game looks very good and then scales up from there cuz that's one thing I'll say about the low settings in this game is they still look very good and then going beyond that is just great and then the path tracing modes can certainly look incredibly impressive from what I've been able to test although yeah they come with quite a performance hit and you certainly will be using upscaling uh and then the the ray reconstruction was certainly looking like it was boosting performance significantly along with image quality so that was certainly a net benefit um and then yeah uh kicking on frame generation if you can get to high enough base frame rate can certainly smooth things out as well uh you know with with some tradeoffs so this was cool I wish I had had a little more time to focus on this aspect of it uh but again with these system requirements making such headlines that's what I wanted to Target mostly in in this video and hopefully you guys found it useful uh and interesting uh I wanted to get into the AMD gpus as well but this video is already extremely long and I'm extremely tired I am a teacher and I have to teach in the morning and I still need to edit this video so with that being said I'm going to let you guys go have an excellent day
