Adobe Illustrator 2024 New Features - But Are They Useful?!

so the new update just dropped and these are the features for illustrator 2024 so first up we have text to Vector graphic and this new feature enables us to write a prompt and AI will generate a vector graphic so you can choose the type here and from the Cog you can adjust the level of detail so first of all let's just draw a rectangle and if you don't see it already just make sure your contextual taskbar is turned on that will follow you around the selected object and we can click generate and type something like cute cat eating a banana and we can also click this option to sample the Stu of an existing graphic hence the random cubes click generate illustrator will do its thing what oh my goodness that is amazing and we can generate again or cycle through the variations I'm definitely going to go with this guy thumbs up for the banana kitten oh s off I'm not doing a survey oh uh H this is awkward right let's click done and we can now hop into outline mode and you can see this is all Vector nice right next we have mockups so I have an image and an AI generated skull graphic let's just wave it around there we go and this is a vector graphic so let's select both go to object and all the way down to mockup and select make and once you've clicked through any popups illustrator will generate a mesh now you do have a drop down here that shows a few different categories Now it only shows a few images per category and you will need to license these from Adobe stock and you've also got a mockup button here for your convenience but anyway let's close this down and try this out so we can click and drag this graphic around and you can see that it maps to the subject's body and this is that invisible mesh that was generated and we can of course skew this or we can scale this up and down holding shift we could move this around onto a sleeve or on the other side or just pop it in the center we can rotate the graphic scale it up scale it down and this works very similar to how you map Graphics to 3D objects in illustrator now it isn't pulling the Shadows through from the clothing so what we can do is change the blending mode to multiply and the blending mode you choose will depend on the colors in your image and whilst this isn't perfect it does help to sell that realism a little bit more now this is all a mockup group so it can be moved around or you can double click to go inside and then you can make any changes and once you're happy simply double click anywhere on the workspace to exit the mockup group right next up we have retype so this is a design submitted for one of the streams I love the font but I don't know what it is I'm going to select the graphic go to type and then down to retype and even though it's a rtag graphic illustrator will identify any text in the design it will give me the exact font or the closest match and I can change the text to see how it looks there we go we got thicker in there guys and if the font is an adobe font you can activate it directly from inside this panel and then simply double click a font and then give it a minute to load and you can see it actually converts the design into live text we can now exit retype and it's removed the original wording and we've now got some live text in its place not going to lie that's going to be pretty useful just like this feature smooth slider now this feature is awesome especially if you find drawing smooth curves a bit difficult so I've got the pencil tool and I'm drawing a very wibbly wobbly line and this is really wonky not ideal at all but we can go to object down to path and we've now got the smooth option now there is an auto setting but it's much more fun to play around with the slider yourself and as you bring this slider up you'll see the design gradually smooth out right before your eyes I love this feature now that is a bit too much so I'm just going to dial it back a bit and try to retain the line's original shape but just make it a bit smoother there we go nice and lastly sharable PDF links not something I use personally but if you love PDFs well this may be Christmas come early because you can now apparently share your PDF files you can choose who can view it you can generate a link and then you can copy the link and send it to someone and I know I'm being a bit sarcastic but if you use PDFs I'm sure this will be a welcome addition so there we go those are the new features and if you'd like to learn everything I know about Adobe Illustrated there is a link to my master class down below but as always have a great Christmas and I'll see you next time
