Activity Wizard - Primavera P6 Settings Explained

hey guys it's michael do not use the new activity wizard in p6 hey this is a video for all you folks out there who are brand new to using primavera p6 i want to talk to you about a couple little wizards in here that were designed for people like you to help make your life a lot easier that actually will just trip you up quite a bit okay let's get into it let's say i'm building a new project here so if i add a new project i click the add button on my projects tab i get a create a new project wizard this is a standard little wizard that we see in p6 and we don't actually have an option to turn it on or off for this instance for creating a new project you can't turn it off but it's nice because it walks you through some of the different settings some of the different fields you need to fill in to create a new project in p6 your name your plan start dates responsible manager rates etc stuff like that it's nice and handy but when we get into actually editing or working inside a project when i add a new activity i get this new activity wizard and it's annoying it's not terribly helpful and it's actually taking more time to add an activity than it would without it so i highly recommend we turn these options off and i'm going to show you how to do that so let's i'm just going to cancel here and i'm going to show you where the options to adjust these wizards are there's two of them that we can turn on and off so let's go to the edit menu and all the way down to the bottom to user preferences and we have a bunch of tabs let's go to this one i'm already there the assistance tab on the assistance tab you see two simple check boxes that says use the new activity wizard and use the new resource wizard i recommend you turn them both off okay these are little wizards that take up more time and ask you too many questions they're going to slow you up so if you're brand new to p6 and you've just installed p6 and this is a brand new database go in here turn those guys off and watch the difference when i now add an activity boom it's added all i have to do is type in the name and i can edit the other fields if i want or accept the defaults much easier the other wither wizard applies to the resources area so if i click the little man icon here there's also a new resource wizard that you would bring up to walk you through those fields again not necessary you don't need that just click the plus button you get a new resource you can edit the fields as you like all right so that's my tip for you folks who are beginners and a little tip about using these new activity and resource wizards don't bother save yourself a lot of time and a lot of clicks i'm michael i hope you got some value here i'll see you in another p6 video happy planning if you want to learn more about p6 settings and how to use p6 to manage projects please check out some of our courses we have an advanced course we have a foundations course and they would be perfect for you to get your p6 certificate and become a master at primavera p6 you
