Accused triple murderer Brice Rhodes is wearing a stun cuff during his trial. Here's why, and how

the defendant in a high-profile murder case has been disruptive and full of outbursts leading up to his trial WDRB Stefan Johnson is here to tell us what's in place you might not have heard of this before to prevent problems in the murder trial of Bryce rhods yeah this is something that's been around for a while Bryce roads has been in custody since 2016 and the last seven years his court appearances have been unpredictable that's why there is a court order to use a special stun cuff if there's a problem the consequences are are his choice on the way things work we do have different levels of Security Options that we can use uh one being the stun cuff that the judge actually mentioned um which is basically like having a taser um it's no different and with that we would use that if the judge orders it to be used but she told him that it would be his option to either use that or leave the courtroom so to be clear the stun cuff will only be used used if there's a problem with roads in the courtroom yeah this is something we were talking in The Newsroom no one had heard of how often have they been used right so they've been around for a while but this is the first time in a long time that anyone can remember the stun cuff being brought out or being used this is an example of what's being used we looked it up online and the lieutenant helped us to uh find the one that they're using actually he says again it's been a long time since they've used one something else that we saw for the first time in a long time roads and Street clothing just before opening statements he walked into the courtroom in a suit and tie meanwhile as we've been reporting roads has a history of alleged attacks since being arrested including spitting on another inmate and one of his own attorneys Lieutenant Nick Jones with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office explains what will happen if the stun cuff is put in use well it would not prevent him from spitting on anyone um because again and it is just on his ankle it's a bracelet um however just knowing that this is an option that he'll have to do and then he would not it would be his choice on whether or not to participate in the trial I think that will kind of limit his thinking on acting out the judge would give us the order to put it on him um and then from there it would be the deputies using their discretion on whether or not they need to use that force and since the trial started there have been no issues with roads in the courtroom uh did Bryce Road's attorneys have any objections here in this using this stun cuff you know I'm not really sure but he can decide the decision is ultimately his and remember he has even attacked he's accused of attacking one of his own attorneys this trial has expected to last for several weeks yeah there will be a lot of eyes not just on the verdict but on that conduct in the courtroom and that absolutely thanks Stefon
