[Music] never before have we've ever seen a race quite like this and we probably never will again in the history of high school athletics only ten athletes have ever broken four minutes for the one-mile distance which makes running a three minute and fifty nine second mile one of the most sought after accomplishments in the world of running after an unprecedented global shutdown due to the corona virus pandemic the entire track and field season for everyone was cut short this left many talented runners all over the world with absolutely zero chance of racing however on May 23rd of 2020 one very special competition brought the world together and that race was the quarantine clásico in Sacramento California for this race we saw eight of the nation's greatest runners with one goal to break four minutes for the one-mile run this field was one of the strongest fields ever assembled with more than 20 separate state titles amongst this eight-person field and although the competition for this race was fierce breaking four minutes is never easy so now let's head to the track and watch one of the greatest highschool races and track and field history and there they were minutes the history books we got our Pacers on the outside remember that's a heckler and Lester they're going to take it through this one turn stagger and they're gonna bring all the backstretch epilogue well on the outside English field goal [Applause] [Music] all right right on 30 seconds that magic numbers at 220 yard all right so we got Boyd as [Music] [Applause] [Music] 60 lat rebel leaders attack 100 meters that's the magic number [Applause] [Music] slide up on the back of those pacesetters second [Music] still looking good boy - all [Music] 1:30 so their clockwork right now 30 seconds to 20 all right Trojan Stadium let's help [Applause] [Music] [Applause] the distant take off the table we'll see it twice turkey get a basket case [Music] or [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] Oh [Applause] I think this goes without saying this was one of the greatest highschool races of all time and up front making history during a global pandemic was a Leo - bah his final 200 meters were simply incredible as he ran this final stretch in around 20 7.5 seconds this was quite possibly the most epic way to end your high school career and in three minutes fifty nine point five four seconds he has now become one of only 11 high school athletes to ever run under four minutes for the mile thank you all very much for watching and as always until next time [Music]
