hey guys a warm welcome back to the channel so a week ago I posted the challenge to try and get some help tracking down that famously abandoned Ferrari f40 somewhere in Iraq well the response I got from that video was phenomenal the story went around the world I had everyone searching for the holy grail of Ferraris and as if all that wasn't enough I then had YouTube megastar salamandrians put out a dedicated video to his 1.6 million followers and within it he posted a $1,000 reward to help me find the missing f40 I mean how nice is that guy any name is rata Rosa it needs to be a British bloke if you will or a British lad with a with an incredible tasting course well alejandro I just want you to know that this British bloke really does appreciate that very kind gesture [Music] now I really can't thank you guys enough for all of the help I received on this challenge via my social media feeds my plan on the f40 was a simple one find it try and buy it for a reasonable price and then get it shipped over to the Ratan rasa garage where we would have a load of fun fixing it up and I would film it for you in the process now one way or another I am determined to get a Ferrari f40 on this channel so what till the end because just maybe some of you might be able to help out with that now back to the story and Wow have I got a follow-up for you let's start where we left off the last video as a recap we had the f40 pictured in two different key locations there was a third location with a single picture but we're going to disregard that one for now the keynote view is among you will have noticed that in the first location through the window of the f40 you could clearly see a Yasim in fuel station and that was our start point to try and track the location of this Ferrari with some help I managed to track down the location of Yasim in fuel and it was clear that the f40 had definitely been in the location of Erbil it was then however I started to receive a lot more pictures of the Ferrari in the second location the images were shocking the f40 looked in worse condition than previously expected the entire car was literally covered in sand the rear polycarbonate screen was clouded and yellowed the wheels brakes tires they all looked in such a sorry state of affair and worse still was the engine there was sand everywhere in the engine bay which on a normal car is a bad day but on a Ferrari of this value it's just horrible to see the interior of the car was just as bad those beautiful carbon seats were worn they were stains in them and they were even tears someone had clearly attempted to fix the electronics under the dash and that was all apart and it was rumored that the ECU's for the forty work totally missing so attempting to start it would never happen the door carbon was scratched it was all yellowed but the good news is that somehow throughout all of this that beautiful red steering wheel had managed to stay intact the saddest part of this saga was that the car had only covered a mere three thousand seven hundred kilometers up front there was a spare tire along with some headlight motors and you can see a very dirty looking brake fluid reservoir the mystery started to deepen even further this time however I started to finally receive video footage of the car and not only that also details that a Ferrari specialist from Belgium have flown all the way to Iraq to fix the f40 the specialist apparently had a good knowledge and history of working with f40 s here you can see him taking the car's engine fully apart and giving it a rebuild the ECU's apparently was sourced and had to be remotely programmed and then finally you get to hear the engine for the first time well at this stage our f40 story goes from somewhat crazy to downright bonkers you see I received a phone call from none other than a gas monkey and after an hour on the phone with big Chris the story he told me was so bizarre you just wouldn't believe it if I told you myself so let's get the big guy on the phone and get him to tell you the story himself okay so firstly welcome big Chris to rattle was a channel thank you very much for stopping by I explained I heard your story and I don't think if I relate that myself anyone would believe it it is just so bizarre so I got you on the channel and I'm hoping that we can get you to relay some of those points I I know that um first of all this is so bizarre it's going to be an amazing story and I'm not going to share everything with the viewers because I know you're going to be writing a book about this along with some of your other amazing car adventures out there so we're we're going to touch on a few little bits here no worries Gangu iraq's no mean feat when you receive a phone call from your body in the States you know Richard from gas monkey and you're in the UK and he said I need you to go and chase an f40 for us and you know on the show the build had just been finished on the black car and I'd spent many months chasing genuine parts around the world Dennis had done the saying I had done the same with his team and you know we'd accumulated a lot of stuff between us that was left over so you know I thought of another area for me it sort of most sense I didn't realize it within Iraq at the time and if you had a US passport you won't allow as civilian to travel there right okay you know the fun pulling chute whereas you know first we need you to go and have a look at this how did you feel about that knowing the destination yeah you know what the thing is you know sure this one this opportunity was definitely putting that to the test especially when you saw I'm telling a close circle of people you can travel in on Monday and you know your missus and your family getting a bit upset obey absolutely and so rich of the days were involved with this was the intention for the effort to ever go on the show you know I think we ever got that far yeah it was just find out if he's real and if there's a deal in the offing you know like I said there was always parts laying around and the opportunity of having another one within 12 months of the first power it made sense yeah so you know it was just more and more release on than that they had that point in time you know yeah everyone's gonna know by watching your channel you know it never came out of there at that point and this was mid 2015 I got the phone call yeah I worked on this for six months we played the work and logistics to see if it was feasible right okay and when was it you actually traveled to Iraq itself to see the car okay and that was where 2016 all right crazy well I mean certainly the the black f40 on the Boston now the gas monkey show my favorite I said to early I'll probably watch that at least four or five times so hence why I'm so came with the f40 and wanna track this one down so how was it you heard about this kind in the beginning well there was a guy that had reached out via email to rich it and you know I ended up dealing with him he was named Duncan he was in the UK travel to see about a week while you just to see if he was on the level with us you know because you get a lot of people that can tell the story and whether these colors exist or not yeah I found that this week actually we're quite quite a few strange emails yeah yeah you know people they want this feeling of being special and whatnot an imaginary car can do that sometimes but you know it was very real and after compiling paperwork I've done import-export for a lot of years and this one was going to be a little bit different because you know you were dealing with very little paperwork there was in the end was no in the English language in the English town and like bringing translators and a massive array of different people with different skill sets to try and facilitate this the might one of one of my key people on this was silence 30 from the supercar centenary Sheffield yeah really good Megamind knows his way around there for these looked after some and still looks after a lot of therefore these four very important spokesperson now that he's an f1 drivers you know he's the man man so I valued his opinion and I needed to know what was missing monetary wise yeah from his standpoint okay so having seen the car how bad was it it's a roughest one I've ever seen yeah I've done inspections on a full these for various clients over the years and you know inherently been involved in [Music] reinstatement procurement parts and also the process of you know we get plastic certification from and the finish of the car and how it should be and you know their fault is those of you that watching this you know they drain cars well the paint was so thin on these cars you could see the weave in the carbon fiber but they say they left the factory I like dust in a red come on there you know for weight saying yeah absolutely they were actually quite quite agricultural in the finish yeah in the gaps everything like that yes yeah I'd say the paint on that car you told me a good story about that as you know it was a funny thing we got there I was viewing the car there was zero we've anywhere on the car we have been filled up with punk right and it turns out you know transpired after was after the research in its original owner that he would come down we've seen the guys that would prepare his vehicles for the day and it wasn't half the realms of possibility for into say that this color for this evening to match my suit that's crazy you know it happens yeah you know I mean it was great or will be pink when when I viewed the vehicle and I know you've you've got some some footage of it now he's red whereas what's been cut yeah but you know it was it was extremely sandy I mean there was you open the door and Sam would just drop out on the floor I get a child's pocket the beach you know I've got some crazy pictures that guy looks like he's on the beach in some of them there's that much sand there and they what about like the history and paperwork and things like that the major issue I guess with if that car ever left Iraq is his registrated and and actually get it out of the country it was some I think that's what put a lot of people off of this you know it was for them it was going to be a pipe dream that they could ever do it and I pulled in so many people use over the years to facilitate this and make it happen even down to Customs and Excise I have sets in into the UK dvla for registering it and what I needed to supply through my channels for sort of historical paperwork if you will and it was it was a big thing and you know he basically all came down to that the physically removing the vehicle from the country because you know I was told at the time if you put it in a container and you drive it across the country it will end up with holes in the container Wow travelling through there and you know it's no good to man or beast then you know the latest on this one that we've tracked down the car and it's been running it's been used on the road what's your feeling on that haven't seen the video I've just shared you know I'm all about the cars and that's that's why I do this job because I love them and they need saving as far as I'm concerned and you know Simon and I took a long time taking out the inspection point beyond the seats to get to the motor of that car and all we did you know tires were flat on in its original tires here again over 3,000 kilometres from no before the ec user by mapping the heat and we're up the motor in gear and it was a feast it was free when the engine oil looked clean wow wow shocking but with the amount of sands yeah but wasn't ago in the coolers were missing I've got a folio in front of me oh that we did for the car and the amount of tasks missing from the engine in the coolers pipe war that were left exposed everything you know you put a stroke down there and it was full of sand everywhere heat I don't think it had been run likely because it wouldn't around we've all the parts that were missing but you wouldn't want to have go in the car if you did that but in asking you a question I'm pretty mortified when I saw it Ronnie yeah after just being put back together and I think if even if you're not mechanically minded listening to the engine note of that car you know there's something wrong now right a shine because I think you're gonna end up that into the line is in that block or definitely again they were up the repair bill on that car by a considerable amount and the problem with f40 is do you know and as you discovered on the show is getting hold of some of those parts are pretty rare and very very expensive right especially if you break a windscreen I saw you looked at with Simon and Duncan he couldn't remember that there was a time in a day when there was a lot of US and UK personnel in those areas and I think a lot of this stuff was just liberated as souvenirs if you will yeah before I viewed the car it was left at the side of the road next to a bus right yeah that's that yeah and you know no one knew what it was you know it was just a car oh that's amazing is that you tell anyone you made easier and you know there was this particular individual at a reputed collection of 1500 vehicles yeah you know why no question for you find a question so I obviously tracked it down we've spoken or via someone have spoken to the owner they're willing to sell it but they want 1.15 million dollars for it how do you feel about that knowing how the car is at the moment what you've seen and yeah the history and we're trying to get it out is it worth it just to trends of thought on that and he just depends how badly you want to save an f40 and be involved with this particular story I was offered that car a lot less yeah than that and I wouldn't have traveled if it wouldn't have been worth traveling for yeah and you know I'm building cars and and I've done for a long time and you know everyone's gotta make profits not a dirty word you know I get it is it worth it to me now no it's not because by the time you've done restoring that car this is not going to be financially viable not not with the way the market sits at the moment I like it as an f4 is a non cap non adjust car very low mileage though I think the front of me changed now it looks like the Front's have been changed on it finds its way to to someone that you know yeah actually then what I would say to you is I think it would suit someone like yourself I mean I saw the video being driven and that scared the hell outta me because when those vehicles sit the wheel bearings the grease dissipates badly and it's not volume yeah we don't absolutely definitely sounds like that doesn't it well okay well let's wrap up their quest I'm a really big thank you for coming on the channel explaining all of that amazing story no one would have believed me if I told them this I know there's a lot more to it and that's gonna be covered in your book so yeah yeah this is it you gotta have a picture mix of that car view but once you're never gonna believe it anyway mate thank you very much and really do appreciate you coming on absolutely yeah we need one on this channel a brilliant thanks Louise I guess you're thinking having a gas monkey involved is the end of the story well you'd be wrong again Chris had been there back in 2016 to try and unsuccessfully purchase the Ferrari so what had happened to the f40 in the last four is so let's do a little deeper digging last year at the end of 2019 the f40 was finally spotted being driven on the road by none other than our Ferrari mechanic check this out [Music] so the final question left remaining is where is the Ferrari now who owns it and is it for sale I'd heard conflicting rumors that the f40 had been purchased by a wealthy Saudi collector and been shipped over to be fully restored so I reached out to a couple of my viewers who are fantastic again me that key bit of final information an American contractor called Shawn and a local guy called Ahmed and did the guys come up with the goods they sure did plus some bonus video of the cars actually driving are the owners property this week [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] well guys that that asking price can buy with the logistical nightmare the documentation the history of the car and not to mention the astronomical price it would cost to put that one right sadly that f40 is out of rata Ross's League however as I mentioned at the start of the video I would love to get an f40 on this channel somehow so if any of you work for any big brand companies who want to get involved who want to contribute or want a sponsor something like that let me know I'll put my email here and all the details will be in the description below the video the idea would be to get a neglected or crash damaged f40 fix it on the channel and then finally wrap the whole car for a period of time anyone who contributed or sponsored would get their logo or name on the car the bigger the contribution the bigger the logo and as a bonus if we managed to hit that pipe dream f40 I would then be looking at giving away a Ferrari probably one of the ones we're working on the channel at the moment who knows but we'll figure out a way and then finally we'd be using that f40 for regular charity events so if you guys have got any leads if you see any f40 s coming up that you think would suit the channel please do ping them over to me and I would really appreciate that now I'll say a huge thank you to big Kris from gas monkey garage for sharing that awesome f40 story with us and I take my hat off to him for actually going to Iraq and trying to buy that car thanks to all of you guys who have contributed and sent all of those videos all of those pictures and all of the help trying to search for this car if you enjoyed the video
