How to get to macau: buy a boat (or bus) ticket and scan QR code *you can hop on an earlier boat with a later ticket* seat assignment is at the gate Hong Kong > Macau = 1 hour you'll need your passport OR HKID for immigration and keep that receipt! welcome to macau 🫶🏼 Day 1 let's go for dim sum Lung Wah Tea House There are only 3 traditional teahouses left in Macau The architecture reminds me of Mido Cafe Washing our cups and bowls before eating Lung Wah looks straight out of a 1960's movie We got there too late so the boss gave us all the remaining dim sum The boss is also very proud of the artwork on display Your bill is still calculated on an abacus Stumbled upon this colourful row of houses Patane Library Built in the 1930's It's now a library where a lot of people read newspaper Macau is soooo pretty! I wish Hong Kong saved more historical buildings Hotel check-in is at 3pm So let's grab a coffee beforehand! 逸日iat iat This is a retro style Japanese cafe And you can watch them make everything by scratch Let's take a look at the dessert menu I like how it feels very cozy here homemade jam soda curry beef rice + caramel pudding Heading to our hotel This is where we are staying for the next couple of nights: Standard Triple Room Normally we stay where all the casinos are, But this time we do want to do a lot of cafe hopping and walking around the more historical parts of Macau So that is why we ended up staying here this time This is our very first time staying on the old side of Macau so I'm going to give you a quick room tour: Right at the entrance we have the bathroom We are staying at the hotel called 'The Caravel' We booked the triple room so there's one double bed and also a sofa bed next to it There's a little coffee/tea station here with some nice cups, tea, water and a fridge Yup that's our whole room tour! I know Macau is known as the 'Vegas of Asia' People come here for casinos and gambling but we are here because we love the historical architecture and the retro Hong Kong vibes Macau also has to offer We are here for 3 days, 2 nights And it's so easy to get here from Hong Kong We just took a boat- it's one hour- and very easy if you want to do a short weekend getaway This neighbourhood is completely different from the casino side Rua Dos Ervanarios is a really cute cafe and shopping street It's also on the way to St Paul's Ruins Pastelaria São Paulo Picking up some almond cookies as souvenirs You can smell the powdery almond and taste test before buying Ruins of St. Paul's Just below the church is this cute street: TRAVESSA DA PAIXÃO Senado Square Passing through this tourist spot on our way to dinner Tonight we have reservations at a Portuguese restaurant A Lorcha sangria clams "Bulhão Pato" style portuguese dried cod cakes macanese coconut and turmeric chicken Wynn Palace Spontaneously decided to find a jazz bar in the city And we ended up at the Wynn Palace (Taipa side) Felt very underdressed but they were so welcoming! The bar manager, Will, was the nicest person we met He took us to the cable car and got us into the VIP line SkyCab From the SkyCab you can get a 360 of the fountain show There's also these massive dragon heads at every corner I've been on this ride before but it was 10 times more fun with friends Time for that nightcap SW Steakhouse dark chocolate fondant sipsmith sloe Perfect way to end the evening Victor is taking a shower... Our bathtub is leaking... Day 2 This cafe is right next door to our hotel Cafe Nam Ping I like the vintage booth seats and green tiling Complete with sassy service This nostalgia is kinda lost in most of Hong Kong But the food itself was just ok I feel like we're on a movie set I kept stopping to take photos of random buildings We are now heading over to Margaret's Cafe for some Portuguese egg tarts! Margaret's Café e Nata There's a debate about who has the best portuguese tart But I'm not really picky and Margaret's is within walking distance half a dozen portuguese egg tarts They're still warm and have a sweet custard-y center Leal Senado Building Just wanted to stop by this staircase for a photo A Porta Da Arte Found this really cute cafe Wow they have 2 of our coffee machines here Waiting for some of our friends to join us in Macau They also sell vintage and handicrafts upstairs The iced latte was a little too milky We just checked into our second room at The Caravel because the first one had a leak in the bathtub. It is a bit tighter in space but we have a standing shower in this one, a smaller sink, And then over here is the tea cabinet and our bedroom I like the view overlooking the roofs! Pace Coffee Macau Killing time at a cafe while we wait for lunch Pace Coffee is located just across the previous cafe iced earl grey tea lemonade earl grey canelé Omg rain in macau is no joke The restaurant is a 5 minute walk but my jeans are soaked Portucau 澳葡坊 Portucau is right next to Senado Square The restaurant decor is really cute clams in white wine sauce baked duck rice roasted suckling pig bairrada style The rain finally lifted Spotted this cute bookstore Livraria Portuguesa These color theme stickers caught my eye I wanted to go to this ice cream parlour again! Lai Kei Sorvetes I can't get over this pink/yellow interior I ordered a brick of ice cream Lai Kei has been around for 80 years I can imagine a Wes Anderson movie here The owner said the signs and drawings were all original artwork ice cream sandwich (it has 3 flavours inside) 1/2 pound of coconut ice cream Third generation owner telling us about the history of the shop "these were the original wax ice cream cups" "very old- discontinued for several decades" "these were popsicle wrappers" "these were cards for 1 pound of ice cream" "like a coupon" She gave us some of their vintage packaging and flyers as souvenirs! Walked to the St Lazarus District Vintage Market Macau There's a sprinkle of vintage stores around here Vintage Pepperland If only these were in my size Heading over to the new casino strip in Taipa The Venetian Macao There's been a ton of new casino hotel openings Vegas vibes Including The Londoner which is giving Harry Potter vibes The village behind the casinos was packed with people Loja das Conservas Macau This canned sardines shop just relocated here The old store was a lot cuter :S La Famiglia I booked this restaurant to celebrate Victor's birthday! Cod cakes sapateira stuffed crab on shell This octopus dish was massive (also our favourite!) "eiffel tower" Wandered around the hotels before heading back by cab Day 3 Rain.... again... This reminds me of Quebec 新鴻發美食 We hit up this Hong Kong style cafe that was far from the tourist area Love the "food elevators" hong kong style milk tea Their signature dish: stir fried beef macaroni Towering squares of French toast the collective: "waaaaaahhhh" How are we gonna share these between 7 people 😂 Fika Life Coffee We stumbled upon this cafe on the way back Such pretty cakes! Checked out and heading over to The Venetian teamLab SuperNature Macao We left our luggage here because it's free! Adults aren't allowed in this one 😭 So jealous! At this TeamLab there are many rooms hidden by the installations Adult size ballpit Found another room Ps. they have 3 rooms including the orchid for an extra $100 So it's worth going if you haven't been to the one in Tokyo We didn't go but would love to next time!
