A Viral Video Takes a Dark Turn

I have been told by reporters from the north of Ireland that the when the news is not on there and the cameras are ready to go the public is all out in the streets ready to go into action as soon as the cameras are that's Morrow's that they all retire inside to watch the news and then come outside to participate in covering the news and in acting it out themselves now I think the difference between hired actors and the public itself is tending to emerge the media themselves can now create events that are so much bigger than people so much bigger than the audience that it really is a new mythic for I went to the train station and the trains canceled so everyone who had gotten on then had to pile off so it's like 200 people and there was the only a few buses to take us so we all piled onto this fast I was faster a bit everyone was frustrated because we're kind of just getting led away everyone trying to get a seat and get on the bus and no one knows why there was a younger kids like 16 17 sitting around this area and then right behind them was like an older gentleman drunk he had a really red face I don't know if he had too much Sun or alcohol both he was he was angry at first he was yelling at himself he was you know in fact this one stupid Metro this and that we have to catch a bus the kids started to talk to him because you know they could see him I knew that the red-faced man was the angry man on the bus and the 16 17 year olds wanted to feel that and wanted a bit of commotion on the bus behind me there were a group of probably about 10 15 people there speaking in our language we were actually just happy after this nice day enjoying the sound girls were having a lot of wine they were they were a little bit intoxicated you can imagine like ten girls at the back real loud all singing the same French music very pale white woman who was sitting with another couple and some kids she started chanting like Ozzy Ozzy Ozzy that kind of fueled more fire and kind of got their anger going back and forwards there's only one French girl that was actually saying anything back she was like leaning forward telling them to shut up just wanted them turn the fan like alright I'm French I'm gonna I'm sober I'm gonna look after them I'm gonna tell him to calm down I will say about this I won't stay calm it's alright he looked like he needed some help at that point I said as well to the red-faced man because he he was the guy who was kind of leading the thing that's enough come on night I had my phone in my hand at the time and I was out options I was just sitting here eating this this racist mess that this guy was throwing back at us I just turned to turn it to camera and started recording the guy the bus stopped because people wanted to get off and it was the girl who yelled Ozzy Ozzy Ozzy start and her boyfriend the door was open and we've got this guy losing your [ __ ] on the side of the bus and then you hear like [Music] the replacement bus came and the French group just decided to walk no one wanted to get back on the bus with the red-faced man and his little minions but I did and it was quiet bus ride home I remember getting off at our final destination and walking toward the train and I'm walking behind the red-faced man he was by himself get a little strut he has like a little waddle about his walk he's confident kind of alpha man war I'd been under the thumb of this guy for the last 45 minutes and then just a war watch him watch him just walk in front of me I let it go and that felt horrible I feel horrible to let it go yeah there's something humiliating about it I guess I was we watching his foot [ __ ] look just looking at the hypocrisy of it all and I'm thinking about these guys going off and telling their friends and becoming heroes of this story at that point I was like well if that's the narrative you've got my footage shows something else I want to show you my footage and I want to show anyone that you've told this story to my footage so you look like an absolute dick and it was that point it was me wanting to show their friends and them what they'd done that I realized I could do that I was working in viral marketing at a time earlier that year I had a viral video my house my cow had a big night last night and thought it'd be a good idea to put an axe in my car I'd learnt a lot about how to make a video viral it was the process of writing down the story writing down the injustice and and turning up the volume on on all the other emotional pressure points the footage was so cutting and it had racism and and misogynistic behavior you can plug this one right in and the zeitgeist and make it go big so that's what I decided to do I want people to share this video for two reasons firstly because although we like to think we live in a culturally inclusive society sadly this kind of stuff isn't that uncommon I know I've got my share for being brown and all of my ethnic friends have a story or two it's a thing in this country let's not pretend it's not and secondly so this video gets back to these three in particular I want you guys to see this in the sober light of day so you can see how truly pathetic you are [ __ ] you you're an embarrassment I showed my housemate Marc who's really good at social media stuff and I told him about the plant my kind of rain and really excited and kind of half angry and he said um I need you to help me with something and he was talking really quick I didn't understand where he's talking about and then he just kind of threw this video on a laptop in front of me and yeah it all became pretty clear after that first place I shared it was my facebook and then we went off and started sharing in other places and kind of getting the works eating this thing to start with it was just sort of a few tweets from different accounts that I have been emailing a few journalists bit like hey there's like a little video that someone else made it I was emailing from fake accounts it just got picked up straight away in so many different areas and I couldn't even keep track of it and at this point I was like holy [ __ ] we don't actually have to do much work here this thing's working for itself and we'd go back and start sharing it around and everywhere we shared it it would explode a sunny spot of life agnostic it's not a finger right face I thought it was for medicine look at myself with the attended us reply - it's in a place in a car desires to let us entertain a knife maybe was too sympathetic for to see an ostomy paid was as far as confident this was gonna fall in the laps of the people that we wanted it to fall into and that was a good feeling you know like we'd be gone and then try to achieve something and we achieved it seeing your name this much makes me want to become the Grand Wizard of the KKK I put this this racist theme in the video and be like news networks were asking me about it and and radio networks we're going so what do you think about race relations I think I think there was a definite racist sentiment there and I think it's something we should talk about and trying to be the light on because it's a shameful way of thinking shameful way of behaving I think that might help them change the way they feel thinking at this point is is maybe I can do some good like maybe I can do some good maybe we can everything you know I've got me I've got me what a half year old daughter with me in the pram framing abusive had a lady at the back of the bus didn't it didn't look good I'd only been out for three weeks I should we still caught in that mind frame of jail mode you gotta threaten them before they get you first you know you got to make sure they're not going to come after you you're you're you're angry and scarier in a way then you know here come come stand over me you know I always on in control but I was trying to control from what what me ex-partner had said to try to control their other
