[Music] welcome welcome to the Beehive I I took a week break from actually getting into some projects up here I mean I did some things but not anything I felt share-worthy I guess that's how I should should clarify but I am back up in the Beehive and it is a overcast drizzly cloudy can't see the top of the mountain type of day so so it's the perfect perfect be hot day and I am continuing to work on machine appliqué of the leaves on this particular project and I have not really done I'm trying to see if I have that pattern here so stay tuned yes it's the it's a brand old flag and this is a Jeff's mom's pattern which Joyce is just such a talented talented designer and I basically love all of her patterns and this one has been on the backburner for quite a while but I would like to get it quilted before July that would be awesome and I decided to machine appliqué down the motifs and only hand stitch the wool motifs because a lot of it is cotton and I think he'll just make you go faster so it doesn't end up back on the UFO pile and I am almost almost all the way around I just have one side of machine appliqué and because there's so much of this either hand or because it's machine appliqué there is SF 101 on the back of the border not on the back of the piste blocks and the way I have done it is the leaves are a variety of homespun greens so I took out all of my green threads and I just kind of auditioned to them and chose one that kind of went with all of them some some leaves the thread shows up more and some it doesn't show up hardly at all and then I tested out my zig-zag stitch I've never done this so this is not an expert talking but I took a piece of scrap fabric and I tested out the zig-zag stitch and the length and the width and decided how much of it I wanted to show or not show and so now that's what I'm doing I'm just going around the leaves and by no means is this perfect no no I am a better hand applicator than a machine applicator but I'm ok with it it's mine so that that's the thing that counts and I'm hoping to get all of this both the wool stars hand stitched down and the flags and then finish machine appliqué the raw edge and mind you its raw edge it's not turned under so that's the difference and it's fused on so if your purest I can hear you get gasp but I'm here to tell you I'm really pleased with it and once I get all that border done then I'm going to layer it and decide how I want to quilt it and that will be a challenge because I I struggle with quilting things myself anymore I used to do it all the time but now that I've seen so many beautiful long arm quilters I struggle to do quilting but I really want to do this one on my own so that's where we're at so I'm gonna just do a little more leaves here and it is not perfect and I'm just gently moving it around as I do it I hope you are all doing well I know some of some of you live in states that are starting to open up a little bit more and some some people are comfortable with that some people are singing the Hallelujah everybody is at a different point in their life and depending on how it has affected your you personally is how you're going to feel about the opening yeah so I just kind of move it around and smooth it I'm going to yeah today is I don't even know what day it is is it that a hood what day is it do you know do you know what day it is I don't even know there's my phone right there it's the 18th it's Monday it's Monday the 18th but I have a lot to share with you so I'm just gonna finish this one leaf and then we'll get on to the sharing ok one more leaf let's see how many do I have left to get to and then the leaves will be done then I'll move on to the bird one two three four five six seven eight only eight more that's awesome but this is such a pretty just just such a pretty project I was excited to get my order from old world quilt shop Monique she's so sweet and when I went on to look at the website you know just to check what's there what's not there they have such an extraordinary selection of wovens like the Daiwa bow type woven's and i was like oh my gosh I I have I love them as a background to my wool pieces and so I thought maybe I'll just get a couple of yards of that just to have because I love the color and let me just show you a couple pieces because remember the pattern that my friend sandy sent the link to from 1894 cottonwood house it's called lemons to lemonade which is so perfect right now but I really really love it um that's it I know I hope you can see that but you could go on their site to look at it it is on its a wool on wool project but I thought maybe I would do a woven and so I order here's what happens you go on a website and you you you intend just to buy that one thing you know just to look for that one thing but literally as you are scrolling through the pages things start screaming at you yeah I actually I actually think fabric has a voice and so I I ended up with more than I thought but I'm gonna just pause it for a second here and I'm gonna reposition the camera because I really want you to get a close-up look of what I'm gonna be showing you okay so hang on okay we're back so again I'm gonna show you a little closer view of that lemons to lemonade that's a project by 1894 cottonwood house that project as it's shown on the photograph is wool on wool wool motifs onto a wool background but I thought I might try it on a woven my wool motifs fused onto a woman but to find the right woven and so I went to old-world quote shop which has a huge selection of woven's and I found this piece you see can you see the tiny little Daisy strip in it it's just so sweet and assuming and not real loud and so I thought it might make a good background for that project I don't know yet but I I had to have it anyway and then while I was shopping for that this one started screaming I'm kind of a prim girl and this piece was amazing just amazing it has star strips up and down and I thought oh I know I have lots of fourth-of-july projects that I would love and when you go on to any site but especially on to old-world coachup it's really hard it's really hard just to buy one thing yeah it's really hard and if you remember I finished the quail pillow and I have the flicker to do but last time I was in Arizona I saw a roadrunner running across the road with the lizard in its smell I was so tickled I had no idea they were carnivores but when I saw this pillow kit with the cute cute cactus with the roadrunner I had to get it and it comes with the backing the background and the wool so cute so that's on my to-do list and then sweet Monique she put in a little couple of little wool wool squares okay what else what else it's like Christmas isn't it I decided to try my hand at making a different type of mask and I and the reason was that I had bought this headband this stretchy headband that you pull over your head and I noticed that people were using that headband as a mask and I wondered if I could make make it make something like that because it every mask has its advantages and disadvantages and that stretchy material tightly woven but it's very hot like you wouldn't want to wear it because it's it's gathered up around your neck and and you bring it up but it's very comfortable and very fast to bring up and down it's not a mask you'd want to wear all day but I thought I would give myself a challenge and so I bought two quarter yard pieces of stretchy fabric and this one has a little mermaids on it isn't that cute so we'll see how that turns out and then and then just a black-and-white check yeah so these are these are like really stretchy you see how that goes yeah so we'll see how that works out I'm not sure if I shared this card with you but it is absolutely fabulous people are so so talented and Jean from Massachusetts sent me this card I was so disappointed because she was actually going to be making a trip West this summer and maybe to the cold show but we know how it happens with that but this is paper pieced is that not the cutest thing that is definitely going to be on display here in the beehive yeah oh and this is this card is done it looks like this card is made by her husband it says grandfather I didn't even notice this back here grandfather cards the quilt father at gmail.com I'll put that link in the description in case you want to buy some quilted cards this is so amazing it's amazing I have another friend Becky who makes cards and it's it's a whole nother genre but this is I didn't realize her husband had made before Wow I'm gonna have to talk to G I got the biggest tickle so let me tell you last year I'm talking about last year I saw a book at the and I'm not sure why I got this book back I'm gonna have to talk to Diane but I saw this book at the stitching post in sisters and Diane who works at the stitching post I she she loved the book too and I told her I would buy the book for her if she would make me a couple of those creatures well I don't know why she gave I picked up the package and the book was in there she's supposed to keep the book but it's Edwards crochet Imaginarium and this is the book there are all these little funky creatures but you have to crochet them and the book is laid out where you can change the body with the head you can change their feet with different heads you don't have to make them exactly like in the book you can flip the head and leave the body or move the different feet around so I picked up the bag and by gosh it was a bag full of creatures so I'm gonna show them to you look at this guy now I have to figure out how to attach eyes that won't come off you know but look oh my gosh I cannot believe it look at that one aren't they fun I just wanted a couple of them from my grandkids bedroom that I have here because when they come they always want to see what's in there look at this one forget the claws oh this this little guy has been in quarantine he needs a manicure and a pedicure and we know exactly we know exactly how how she feels we know exactly she's got horns and she has not seen her hairdresser in forever oh my gosh yes oh she's a hoot and a half yeah she hasn't had a hairdresser in a long time that is so sweet Thank You Diane that is so fun they are the funniest little creatures people think of all kinds of patterns so let's see what else next well I know it's been it's been a bit what it's been about a week isn't it a lot happens around here in a week I got Chuck my quote back from the long arm quilter that lives around the corner from me Hal and I will put his email link in the description again the way he does that is if you don't if you aren't mailing you can mail him quilts but for me being around the corner I just drop it off in a bag and he calls and says what do you think about this or this you know so this is a project this is a UFO that was a class with Sarah Falchi from Australia and it was the alphabet her alphabet quilt and so I had to piece the backing you're not going to be able to see the whole thing because it's so damn big but it's the upper case and lower case of the alphabet and then I pieced surprisingly when I look at my stash I I don't have like a huge - I have a lot of smaller pieces you know half yard quarter that quarter sometimes I'll have a yard depending on the type of fabric but it's it's not as extraordinary as one would think given what I do but the two pieces that I had that were lengthwise long enough were old they were old old old pieces that I've had for many many years and so I piece them together and one is a Dick and Jane and the other is a Snoopy snoopy fabric so half the quote will be Dick and Jane on the back and half will be Snoopy the other thing that I'm gonna do with this quilt after I get the binding done yes it has two big blue spaces at the bottom where the alphabet ends y and z is at the bottom and so on either side of y and z is this big blue space and what I'm going to do here is I'm going to take some of the leftover Dick and Jane fabric and I'm going to make a pocket on either side one on this side to put a stuffed toy in and one on the other side to put a book in so there'll be two pockets on this quilt wouldn't it be fun how did a fantastic job I am totally pleased with it he sent me a couple choices that I might want to look at but you know I I totally trust his judgment but I I told him I like the swirly circles and that's what he did so it turned out great I can't wait to get that done and my little guy's birthday is next month so I gotta get going what next Oh like I was talking about my stash I I don't have big big pieces like backing pieces I might change that in terms of having that's maybe what's lacking in my pile backing fabric you know I prefer those backing fabrics that you know 108 inches wide those are great but I kind of like the fundus of and I'm not so much by the time I pieced it quilt I'm not so much into piecing the back although cake errs and one of my girlfriends she's all about that and so literally her quilts look reversible but I might invest in the future in a little bit more of a backing fabric because I have two quotes that I need to quilt and I didn't have any backing fabric so I and they had Halloween fabric on the sale rack you know and when you go in there you have to UM you know wear a mask glove they only let so many people at a time but boy did I luck out because let me show you the the quilt so first here's the backing is that not perfect it's um spider webs all over and the the quote that that is going to go on for you this was a panel an old panel quilt but isn't that cute so believe it or not even though I have a pile of Halloween fabric they're mostly half yard or fat quarters and I'm not willing to waste them on a back so I but luckily found that piece the other project that I needed a backing for Oh over and in my stash and it is a very odd it's almost a tomato red it's a crisp Christmas winter type quilt it's an olive green and a kind of tomato red and I just could not find any fabric in my stash that made me happy for the back and so I went online it's an old fabric line and I went online and found a shop found a shop just by accident you know it was an awesome shop online because she wrote me a personal email after the order that's customer service that makes you feel important and nowadays we don't see anybody that makes us feel important do we but in here it says thank you for your business and the name of her shop is my favorite quilt store and I'll put the link down in the description also with everything else and she has a Facebook and an Instagram and a Pinterest very very great her name is Margo very great customer service and it came wrapped in this beautiful heart tissue paper but luckily I was able to find enough yardage for the backing of the same line of fabric basically or similar line of fabric to the quilt top and it is perfect see there it's kind of an olive green it's not a like a Christmas Christmas green but and it's from the merriment snow Holi Ginga bur for Mona Mona fabrics and so this is the quilt it's an old one at King it was a kid that came in a box isn't that sweet no I really liked this project I like this fabric line I just thought it's a sweet but modern so I was really happy to find because I searched for since this is an older line I searched for this for the fabric line to find backing fabric and I could not find it anywhere but my favorite store definitely a shop to add to your list my list is a little bit longer but how sweet that she wrote well what can I say we'll continue on we've got a lot to do I'm gonna go back to zig zagging my leaves and getting those done and then I still I'm still tacking binding down on the t-shirt quilt - gotta put the binding on this alphabet quilt and so life continues on I hope you all are doing well and that you're finding your kind of itching out time in your sewing spaces and then you're watching some good TV oh I'm really enjoying the midsummer mysteries those are really good so we'll see you next time okay you take care love you guys thanks for watching and be sure to LIKE and subscribe on quilt Rody's [Music]
