I got hit in the face by Ron fellows multiple times and it left a welt [Music] [Applause] [Music] twelve years ago I had this seemingly brilliant idea to open a destination dealership and what I wanted to do was have a automotive dealership at a racetrack slash Motorsports Country Club whereby people could buy and try the cars on the track and kind of enjoy them and it was the whole ownership experience wrapped up into one place rather than just well you come here to buy a car and that's it I partnered up with Spring Mountain Motorsports who built me a very nice showroom out there and allowed me to offer my customers that experience without having to spend twenty five million dollars on a facility which I didn't have any way the the cool part about being at that facility was just the experiences I got to have there was a lot of press cars that got tested there a lot of photo shoots and often I would get to participate just by dint of being there you know I'd get a press badge because I was there and go drive whatever car they were testing and I got to meet some very interesting people as well the owner spring mountain had created this incredible playground but a lot of it was also centered around the things he liked himself and he was ex professional racquetball player so he built himself a racquetball court there one evening in the racquetball court they had the Ron fellows General Motors Corvette driving school there on the facility so every now and then Ron would come out and meet some of the people who were going through the school and all that cuz obviously his name was on it so one evening were playing racquetball and Ron fellow shows up with some of his friends and entourage so I get introduced to Ron fellows I'm like whoa the Ron fellows racecar driver this is awesome and I was super excited to meet one of my racing here I was a love watching him just wiped the floor with some of the the NASCAR Road course guys in the rain and I got introduced to one of the Pratt & Miller guys who they built the engine for the c6 R and C 6 RS and I got introduced to Mike Atkins and goes yeah I'm the Mike Atkins so like I I see what I did there good sense of humor we all rope them into playing racquetball we play doubles often and I think thankfully I was just enough better than people who had never played at all that John would want me on his team the fun thing was playing against Ron because he was terrible at racquetball but like racing he would give it his all he would play with intensity but the problem is and when I tell the story to other people I usually open with yeah I got hit in the face by Ron fellows but without the racquetball context they're like oh why you got punched by Ron what'd you do are you racing against him so I proceeded to tell them that no we're playing racquetball and you know I'd serve to him and and whenever you serve or hit and racquetball you never ever look back to see what your opponent is doing you assume a good position and you watch the front wall to see where the ball is going to come ron was so entertaining to to watch because anytime I'd serve to him he'd take a wild swing at it and he'd connect maybe 60% of the time and of those 60% of the times that you actually hit the ball 20% of the time he'd hit it properly and the rest of the time it would just go here there and everywhere Sue's hilariously entertaining to watch him attempt to hit my serves but the problem is the few times that he did connect it would come straight back at me so I got hit here I got hit here and when he did connect also because he was swinging so hard it would hurt like crazy so yes I got hit in the face by Ron fellows multiple times and it left a welt but I considered it an honor and it was definitely worth the entertainment value but all that to say one of the coolest cars that came out of that partnership of General Motors and Pratt & Miller was the Corvette c6.r s which was a streetcar that was based on the Corvette c6.r and it used the same carbon-fiber body panels they used an eight point two liter k-tec moe all revised suspension brakes wheels the interior was full Alcantara and they fixed all of the fit and finish and gapping issues of the regular Corvette and put these amazing bolstered seats in and thankfully a slightly better steering wheel but it was an awesome creation Jay Leno has one I think they only made seven of that generation c6 RS Matt Farah came out and we did a video comparing the c6 RS and the zr1 which is really fun to do and it highlighted how much just more aggressive and crazy-looking the c6 RS is then the zr1 when you actually put them next to each other actually to date that car is one of the best cars I've ever driven it had 600 horsepower and 650 ends of torque which sounds low for an eight point two liter motor but it was the the torque curve wasn't a curve it was a line you had torque available at any rpm and the car was so balanced and just easy to drive easy to slide around corners just without any drama that it was it was a pure joy and I think at the time it was a hundred eighty-five thousand plus the donor Corvette to build a c6 RSO is about two hundred fifty two hundred sixty thousand dollars and there was three of them at Spring Mountain over time so there's actually the Ron fellows Edition which was number one of the seven which interestingly enough I tried looking for because I don't have the pictures of the car in my showroom I don't know why but I couldn't find anything about it online it was almost like it didn't exist sure somebody can find something out about it they had two others there and one of them was a red one that was owned by a member of Spring Mountain and he actually drove his car and that's the one we used for the video and put a number of miles on it I tried to sell it for him but didn't end up finding a buyer at the time because nobody just really cared about those cars that's why they only made seven I guess because they had six buyers fast forward a year too I get this random email from a wholesaler and in his list of cars he has something about like a k-tec Corvette or something like that and I'm like I don't think he even knows what this is because the description is kind of misleading but I think this is a c6 RS and I called him up and asked him some questions and he didn't know what I was asking I said just get me some pictures of the car turns out it was one of the seven c6 r SS and it was a black one I had like 500 miles on it and it was in Scottsdale so I'm like I I want the car it was like a hundred fifteen grand or something like that I mean an absolute bargain compared to what they were going for new so I flew out to inspect the car from my client I like this cars awesome yep we'll take it and I kind of asked the back story of you know how did it come for sale and it turns out it was Bob Parsons car which Bob Parsons is the founder of GoDaddy and he liked everybody to to know that I think he's very prominent on his own website as the story goes it had showed up as a line item on his balance sheet when his accountants were having a meeting with him because it was stored in the the stables there in Scottsdale and he had forgotten he owned it and he goes what's this thing over here what's what's that two hundred thousand dollars I think oh that's your Corvette c6.r s whatever he goes oh sell it so we got to be the the beneficiary of a line-item expenditure huh Bob Parsons balance sheet so that one got sold very quickly to a local collector but I got to drive that one so that was the third of seven c6.r s has produced that I got to drive just as a crime of opportunity and then I saw the fourth one up in Ken Lingenfelter 's collection in in Michigan which is a absolutely fantastic collection that is open to the public a lot for charity and all that but this this red one popped up on eBay again a little while later and the owner had gotten a divorce because you know I thought he used to come out to the track with his wife and of course while the activities at the racetrack are a hundred percent above board for the most part Pahrump Nevada itself is a place where Kimi might go post-retirement to to find some alternate employment a lot of guys came out there with their other female friends to which they were not legally tied and that was the case with him who I thought was his wife was not and she was upset about that reasonably so so they got a divorce and in the divorce she took the Corvette c6.r s away from him and I think she got the short end of the stick there because it was probably appraised for a hundred fifty or two hundred thousand dollars and was actually worth about 85 to 90 grand at the time but because this was the car that he went out to the track with his mistress to play with the car she just she wanted to take it away from him to punish him but the problem with that was she knew that I still talked to him and he and I had a good relationship so she would not sell the car to me because she thought I was going to buy it to give back to him or to sell back to him and I'm like the the nothing of the sort like I just want to buy it because I have buyers for the c6 RS she wouldn't talk to me she blocked my phone calls wouldn't talk to anybody else I had tried to call and buy this car and she ended up selling it for $82,000 to somebody else so I didn't think anything else of it until recently I got a hankering again I said man I really missed those c6.r s's kind of want to try to find that red one because it's you know probably affordable because it's the only one that has some miles on it so I looked up the VIN and ran a Carfax and there's nothing on Ben wiki about it but Carfax showed that it was in Ohio I was like alright well cool I can at least find out what the guy paid so I did have been title search in Ohio and found out that he had paid $82,000 and he had bought it six or seven years ago whenever this transaction happened and had owned it since then cigar I just been the same guy and it's in Tiffin Ohio small town I'm like well I know somebody that got kicked out of that small town for his shenanigans so maybe he happens to know who owns it no luck there he's too far removed from that town at that time so Cayce was unable to locate it for me but I'm like now the problem is now that I've got it into my head I'm like I've got to find that car because I have this whole backstory with it and I'd love to have it again especially since they're they're kind of affordable now so I'm still on the hunt the story's not over but hopefully at some point a certain very red and very carbon fiber Corvette c6.r [ __ ]
