hey there on today's episode of Christmas kit we're going to do a nine-millimeter ammo review for the range but first how about an awesome shooting montage [Music] okay so the reason I put that together is because whenever I went to the range to test out all these different brands of ammunition I ended up having over two hours of fledge so I condensed it down to save you all the pain so why did I take this little journey of trying to find a different range ammo and this is specifically range ammo by the way well first and foremost Walmart enough said but secondly because the ammunition that I bought from Walmart ended up causing this and this is the bullet that started it all this is Winchester white box this was a very very catastrophic failure to feed in my Glock 19 and as you can see the primer never even went off this was still lodged in the barrel this was as catastrophic as it gets when it comes to the ammunition tested these are all nine-millimeter they are all 115 grain and the brands used were laser CCI American Eagle MagTek Tula which we all know steel case and then federal but the aluminum cased another thing that I wanted to test was shooting each of the different brands of ammo out of different pistols and the reason for that is actually whenever I went to the store to buy all these different brands one of the gentlemen who was there helping me because I was asking about well what do you recommend which one do you definitely not recommend and looking at different things one of the things that he said was that the federal Lumina he actually had problems shooting out of any Smith & Wesson product and he felt like he had something to do with barrel diameter just being slightly different than other brands of we used my personal carry which is a Glock 19 my prior personal carry and I still carry it from time to time but a Smith & Wesson M&P SHIELD and then there is also a Taurus PT 111 g2 I believe and then a Ruger lc9 and then whenever it comes to shooting them I did not move the grid but the grid looks like this as you can see my targets were index cards Glock 19 in the upper left Smith & Wesson over in the upper right lower left is going to be the Taurus and then the lower right is going to be the Ruger lc9 when I started out my day I had the range all to myself however as the day progressed on other shooters came in and the audio started to get a little bit more chaotic so I'm just gonna go ahead and show you the results of each of these different a munitions and I'm just gonna voice over and one more thing before we get to the results this is a testing of the ammunition and not my shooting ability I know I'm not the best shooter in the world I'm going to always continue to practice and for any of the rude remarks that happen to end up down in the comments I'm going to look at them I'm going to laugh and I'm going to move on with my day and continue to train so that being said another thing that I want to discuss here real quick is that when it comes to how many rounds so each brand of ammunition that was shot with the exception of the federal aluminum because it came in at 200 bucks each of the boxes were 50 rounds apiece which meant I had 12 rounds per gun and then two left over those two left overs went anywhere there's no real rhyme or reason to where they went but at least 12 rounds out of each gun with each ammunition and six of them at least being in different magazines so I went through two different magazines to see if there would be a failure to eject or something like that so as you can see the first branch ride was the Blazer CCI here are the results of that shooting and there were no malfunctions or hang-ups of any kind to be noted the next brand was the American Eagle there was only one failure and that was for the Glock 19 on the last round of one magazine there was a failure for the slide to lock back the next brand is MagTek these are the results and there were no malfunctions noted of any kind the next brand is Tula now who Louis steel-cased and we all know steel case is still cased these being the results not too bad the only thing that I would say is that hula is a little bit snappier than any of the other a munitions that I tried during the day that said there were no malfunctions noted of any kind the last brand test was the federal Lumina there was one failure in the LC nine and that was on the last round in the second magazine there was a failure for the slide to lock back otherwise no other malfunctions so I had a lot of the aluminum ammunition left over so I wanted to try it some more especially because with coupons and everything else I did get it for 16 cents around it and I want to try it my personal EDC weapon which is the Glock 19 so this entire run is each new card is one magazine out of the Glock 19 with the aluminum I did have one failure for the slide to lock back on one magazine otherwise no malfunctions with all of this the other thing to note is that while it's a really good price and it isn't really an issue you could start to smell the aluminum burning which is kind of obvious there's an explosion going on and there's a lumen um there but just one to make note of that when it comes to the federal lumen 'm and at the beginning of this i did say that the person at the store said that they had issues with any smith and wesson product and the alumina ammunition and after I put the camera equipment away and everything I was like oh man I really should have tried some more in the MEP I went ahead and went through three or four more mags with the aluminum and the MMP shield and I had no problems whatsoever so I'm not sure if it might have been specifically where he was shooting it could have been a humidity thing an altitude thing here in Colorado altitude is always an issue for everything including just boiling an egg so I personally had no issues with the aluminum ammunition in my Smith & Wesson M&P shield what are my thoughts overall on what brand and where to buy your ammunition I want to start with I'm not being sponsored by anybody for this video thanks to Walmart I can't buy my 9 mil there anymore and thanks to the catastrophic failure that I had with the Winchester white box I'm not shooting that brand anymore so this is information that I need it because I believe that if you're going to get better at your skills you need to and train so that being said I need this information figured I bring you all along for the ride when it comes to where to purchase your ammunition there are three big options there's your big box stores or big brand stores and like Cabela's Bass Pro forces warehouse to exporting goods there are those options then there are your local mom and pops and then finally ordering online so when it comes to the big-box stores and the ordering online I feel like that's where you're gonna get the best price point usually but when it comes to ordering online I feel like you do need to be very careful of shipping and handling because the shipping and handling beats your cost benefit when it comes to the mom-and-pop stores typically those prices are much higher I do believe in supporting local I do not believe in paying through the nose for something just so that way I can say I support local whenever it comes to supporting local and ammunition if it's 1 or 2 cents per round more okay I'll buy local but if it's more like 5 or 8 cents per round that's getting into a little bit more of the realm of ridiculous so again support local but be smart about it I support my local gun stores by that's typically where I actually buy my firearms from but when it comes to the ammunition I buy smart that being said whenever it comes to the ammunition my top pick is going to be because of a mom-and-pop store and the deal that they always have there is if I'm willing to buy a thousand rounds at a time buying a huge case the price point at one of my local mom and pops the magtec is where it's at for me best price point just have to buy a lot of it I'm completely fine with that and again if you're going to support local do it smart so MagTek is probably going to be my overall choice but whenever it comes to the 5 different brands that I shot the Blazer the American Eagle and the Magnatech all three of those were about the same price point they were all good competitors they all shot well I enjoyed shooting him I had no issues are very comparable I think it would come down to which one can I get at a better price when it comes to the very budget ammunition the federal aluminum and the Tula also very close in price point those were the cheapest of all five shot but whenever it comes to that the two love being steel-cased typically that means it's gonna be a little bit dirtier if you don't mind a little extra cleaning tool is not a bad route to go again I shoot that in my Makarov all the time I have never had an issue with Tula ammunition I will continue to shoot it but probably not if I have other options because in my Makarov for range ammo that's about what you can get and then finally whenever it comes to the federal aluminum I had no issues with it it wasn't bad to shoot and that smell wasn't an overall problem but I do want to specify how bad the smell of the federal lumen was if you've ever bought a budget cheap mountain pine maker and left it in the fire too long and it caught on fire if you do a mag dump of 15 rounds out of a Glock 19 with that aluminum that's what the whole entire range smells like when you're done nothing catastrophic but based on the smell based on the the Tula for almost the same price point I don't mind cleaning a little bit extra I guess that so overall it I've talked a lot this is long video with all the footage and everything I hope you enjoyed it hope you got some insight into what you would like to purchase for your next ammunition yeah that's it alright thank you so much as always it's Chris Mack
