A Night Out in the Northernmost Town Longyearbyen | They burned down the village years ago Vlogmas 8

it's saturday what's the time oh we have to leave  it's 5 34 and we are going to eat traditional   norwegian christmas food at Gruvelageret which  is a really cozy restaurant in the village   Christoffer's here i'm all ready i'll show you  my outfit in a minute i love actually having   something to dress up for i don't remember the  last time the last time we were in the village   is when we were in the village here like when  we were out eating we haven't been out eating   in a really long time so i am actually treating  christoffer and Linn to Christmas table   because we're doing it like like all the  different companies do this and i mean it's   just me myself and i so i'm taking my besties  to get some Christmas food i'm very excited   okay we have to go i'm gonna show you everything  what the food looks like let's go okay   i always usually wear like a black relaxed dress  so i said to myself today not today i'm gonna   go outside my comfort zone and i'm gonna wear  something else something a little more bright i   don't know wearing my bag that i bought it's quite  new this is the first time it's leaving the house   also very exciting wait what's  happening here okay we have to go so yes   this is from zara this is from zara this is  from zara it's from Louis Vuitton that's all i   got for you today Grim is gonna stay at home and  he's just gonna work on being alone and he does   very well so he's gonna have a good time we have  that camera set up so we can actually talk to him   and watch him so if there's an emergency we'll  be home very quickly but i think he's gonna do   very fine it's gonna be quiet and calm and he  can just sleep okay now we go the only thing i   have with me is my phone and cameras this skirt  is a little short and i like it why not you know okay what are you wearing your new shirt look i bought this for christoffer it's really  nice okay beauty match let's go eat some christmas   food and drink champagne you're the sober  sister you're driving oh yeah wait this is   the pound nothing to punch about is is is located at the other side of Nybyen so we are  at the end of this road this way but now we have   to go inside it looks absolutely incredible  i love that it's also 6 p.m and we're the   first ones here i think but i am ready for some  christmas food i'm going to give you a little   glimpse at what it looks like it's so cozy the  restaurant Gruvelageret is located in a part   of the town that is known as Sverdrupbyen at  the very top of the village on the west side   when driving up towards the restaurant you are  met by a polar bear sign reminding you that if   you go further than this you should be armed  Sverdrupbyen is a former part of Longyearbyen   and lies just beneath the massive longyear glacier  there are not many houses left but from the early   30s it was an important part of the city housing  primarily mine workers who worked in the mine 1b   nearby instead of rebuilding the houses that  was starting to decay it was decided by the   town's officials to burn all of the houses  to the ground during a fire exercise in 1985   all buildings were burned down except the canteen  and Gruvelageret it was not known exactly what   Gruvelageret was used for earlier but what they  do know is that it was one of the four buildings   brought up to Longyearbyen for storage in 1946  they were meant as temporary buildings to be used   for the mining company Store Norske Kull company  at some point they know that Gruvelageret was   used as a local shop and also that the southern  part was a stable for the mine company horses for many years Gruvelageret was abandoned half  collapsed and in a part of the city that was empty   Steve who is now the owner of Gruvelageret was  15 years old when he moved to Longyearbyen in   the early 90s he got educated as a chef  and worked as the head chef at several   restaurants in town during the years he  had later on started a company which sold   guided tours inside mind seven the only  mine that still operates in Longyearbyen   he was able to do these tours because  he had himself worked as a miner before   but the mine closed to tourists in 2008 so he had  started offering guided snowmobile trips instead   in 2010 he bought Gruvelageret in the pursuit  of making it into a restaurant the restaurant   opened its doors for the first time in 2015 after  years of challenges and hard work they rebuilt   the house with original svalbard material as  well as some imported from northern Norway   the decor shows the mine history from the  chandeliers made of drills from mine 7 to   the stock certificates from the mine company most  of the things have been given to them from the   mine company or from local collectors the location  does provide some challenges to run a restaurant   as it is partly off-grid so they have to transport  the water sewage and maintain the road themselves the chicken skin and we have the cream fresh and  on the top and we got the baked salmon with a   sour cream and a dry bread in the top thank you this is our christmas main course  we have the rolled pork belly with a   potato cream and red cabbage and pickled apple  enjoy it thank you how's the food christopher amazing really good we've already emptied a bottle of this because we  are in a festive spirit we're having a great time   cheers and now the other people are coming there's  like a lot of people there having a universe foreign there's nowhere is sorry plant your heals that's our nice taxi person there are so many stars yes hey we're back honey hey the time is six past one while Grim goes out to pee i'm gonna debrief the  evening Gruvelageret was amazing the food was   super nice the service was super nice and it was  just really cozy there was a lot of companies   having christmas tables as it's called which is  when they eat christmas food like we did today   I treated christopher and Linn to this and we  had a great time so there was a lot of other   companies there which was really nice because  that means there was a lot of people out   but it was so nice peter made amazing  drinks and the owner steve was there   and he did service today which is amazing  our waitress was called Janet and she was   so attentive it's just a good evening  i was actually really impressed now now we are gonna go to bed i'm actually  feeling very good considering that i've   i have had a few beverages but i'm  gonna down a liter of water and you know   an outdoor i'm gonna do good so it was a very  successful evening i can't wait to do it again   yeah see if grim comes back gimme on he's so  excited we rarely leave him alone but we have a   camera by the way so like the whole night we just  check on him and we can talk to him so he at one   point was barking at something so christoffer just  in the camera he said Grim go to bed and Grim just   goes to the camera because he knows crazy very  sounds before hey so he told him to go to bed   so he went to bed we are home you are a little  bit more stressed than necessary hey city okay bye first
