i just found out about Second Thought and how they went from a science edutainment channel to a full on fucking marxist anti-capitalist video essay channel. it's so fucking based
this is some of the most succinct synopsis i've seen about Marxism online. it's a great idea to start off with the historical context; people often forget Marxism and Marxist analysis of history was a reaction to capitalism, and a criticism of it, and wasn't even necessarily presented as an alternative. "socialism doesn't work" isn't an argument against Marxism in that respect
Second thought AND azurescapegoat? pog
Second thought has been on a roll with the recent videos.
Love Second Thought. So good at laying out the facts in a rational, easy to follow manner.
Based second thought going all thé way to thé finish Line!
Socialism is when the government does stuff. It is more socialism the more stuff it does. And if it does a real lot of stuff, it’s communism.
wonderful video. he points out the flaw where so many us go wrong: blind hatred of the capitalist, owner class. he's not wrong in saying that a lot, even most, are otherwise good people, but do what they do because the system more or less forces their hand. i doubt many CEOs really care about the workers personally during a massive layoff, but i also doubt they do so without any sort of remorse or pain.
this is so central to the transition; the "opposition" must be seen as human, as well, and treated as another soul to be saved, a person to be part of our collective efforts. if we want change, we cannot alienate any further, but bring people together.
Ah yes, comrade second thought. Discovered him since y'all put up the CIA video, been consuming his content religiously since then.
Video doesn’t really do a good job of describing socialism, in fact it doesn’t describe it at all.
“Socialism will do X” “Socialism will do Y”
Just lists outcomes socialism can bring but never addresses how or why those outcomes would occur.
if you can’t draw a path,in people’s mind, of how you reached those outcomes or what socialism even is, you’re just preaching to the choir.
