[Music] [Applause] [Music] so [Music] i love traveling to places where food plays a huge role and obviously paris did not disappoint the opportunity to travel to paris showed up and my friend jenny decided to travel here on a whim and two weeks later i picked her up from our flight and we were on a train to paris i'll show you what we saw where we ate mistakes to avoid and tips to help you enjoy the most out of your trip so if you're planning on taking a trip to paris keep watching for my four-day travel guide on day one jenny and i took the train from germany to paris so we came from sarbrook in germany which made the train ride less than two hours i booked our train tickets through omeo.com which is my go-to website for buying train tickets to travel through europe so once we arrived in paris station by the way i will butcher every french thing that i say but i'm trying my best so please don't come for me so once we arrived at paris station we transferred to the local metro of subways and buses to head to our hotel so starting with mistake number one take a taxi instead of the metro if you're not familiar with the metro system and you're carrying luggages with you i say this because we had to transfer between different trains and we were getting stuck in turnstiles and constantly bringing our luggage up and down the stairs and that was a huge hassle because heading into mistake number two that made us a target for pickpockets because somewhere along the way someone snatched jenny's phone right out of her coat pocket it was really unfortunate for this to happen at the start of our trip but surprisingly jenny was calm so she said next time she would be keeping her phone safely in her purse while wearing it inside her coat so mistake number two is to always keep an eye on your belongings make sure you're not distracted unfortunately this stuff happens all the time when you're traveling to big cities but please don't let it happen to you so we checked into hotel de la bordene which was one of the more affordable accommodations with an eiffel tower review it was minutes away from the eiffel tower metro restaurants pharmacies and grocery stores and i'll show you a tour later in the video so we had plans to explore the city but because of the unforeseen circumstance we decided to go to the apple store to get jenny's phone replaced so mistake number three is actually a tip if you have apple care theft protection in the states is that going to work here in france apparently it doesn't so what jenny had to do was buy a completely new phone so how do you feel jenny i'm so sad but i'm happy i have a phone because we're gonna take a lot of pictures so while we're at the apple store we ended up meeting a lovely worker who was also a foodie and she recommended us really great restaurants in paris to eat at she also recommended us food instagram space in paris to inspire our appetites like paris insider food and foodies paris all right so mistake number four we had a lot of mistakes on our first day definitely do not speak too loud in english so we were approached by two young women who asked us do you speak english and we had no idea what was happening we just said yes then they took their clipboard out and asked us to sign a petition of a deaf and need organization and donate money to them so if we sign the petition i don't know if they would use that as a distraction to steal our phones our money or just take our donations and keep it for themselves but this french lady who was standing nearby started like cursing and shouting at them and telling them to go away and she told us it was a scam and we realized how true that was because the girls just ran away immediately and gave what i think was the equivalent of the middle finger to the lady so in general don't bring too much attention to yourself and don't be afraid to be rude like that french lady so with the crisis averted we were getting hungry so we bought food and wine at a nearby grocery store and brought it to our hotel to snack on and pregame for our first parisian activity a dinner cruise on the river sand i would actually recommend a river cruise to anyone staying in paris for a short time because most of paris's famous landmarks are by the sun and what better way to see all of them within a few hours than from the comfort of your seat in this case we were able to enjoy the sites with delicious food like fog ravioli steak roasted duck chocolate mousse and of course champagne we had so much fun with the food and sights i definitely recommend booking a river cruise at the start of your trip just be careful with drinking too much champagne so we had a late start on the morning of day two so we walked over to la comendari an italian restaurant and grabbed pizza and coffee we actually walked in here because we loved the decor outside and the inside was just as pretty the pizza was delicious and the coffee was of course even better afterwards we took the bus to arc de triomphe for a little sight seeing and a photo op i also found that famous spot where people take it in the middle of the road it's just a minute away so if you need the exact location i have the link on my blog afterwards we went to the roots for a little fancy moment of high tea we got the starting package which gave us 13 different cakes and biscuits a teapot from the ritz tea collection and the little canister of loose leaf to take home it's a fun and cute experience if you love tea and have a sweet tooth we had fun pretending we were rich british people and spoken british accents afterwards we walked over to the louvre museum for more sightseeing unfortunately it was already closed so we didn't go inside but in case you didn't know admission is free to all museums including duluth to see their permanent collections you only need to pay for the temporary exhibitions do not be fooled by the websites that charge you to see their permanent collections that means you can see the famous monalisa painting for free so while we didn't go inside the louvre we did take some photos and videos and watch the sun go down while the city lit up we also made a new friend who could take our photos and videos too for dinner we took a cab to lubell of irones for a famous french dish you may have seen before and it's called aligol it's a cheese blended with mashed potatoes which makes for a very stretchy potato dish it feels like a cheesy potato blanket on your tongue and tasted even better than our expectations it really lives up to the hype and i think every single person should try this at least once and then we went to the eiffel tower to watch it shine like a diamond before bed as soon as the sun sets the eiffel tower will sparkle every whole hour for a few minutes until midnight so don't forget to get a view of this while you're in paris on day three we walked from our hotel over to puerto sebastian for coffee we had so many delicious pastries that we wanted to try but we didn't want to spoil our appetite for the next activity which was a food tour if there's something i always do while traveling it's a food tour i recommend it for anyone who wants to experience culture and food from a local's perspective before we headed to the food tour we stopped by a gorgeous cafe called la favorite it's super cute and i think it would be a great place to sit down and people watch while you drink coffee so we started our food tour in lu mare a parisian district that's famous for its old world charm with narrow cobblestone streets hidden courtyards art galleries and shopping boutiques i don't want to give away the places that we visited in the food tour but i highly recommend booking this tour because we ate so much food over the course of three hours but a few places that stood out to me were found in my career a bakery known for their fusion of japanese french bread bashir known for their lebanese ice cream with crushed pistachios stocha the oldest bakery in paris founded in 1730 pretty much a pastry institution famous for its macarons and prosciutto for gusto for their generous charcuterie servings and lambrusca wine so with a very full and happy tummy we left the tour and came across the iconic english language bookstore shakespeare and company so if you saw movies like midnight in paris julian julia and before sunset you're going to recognize this famous bookstore afterwards we visited the tocadero one of them so hard to say it's one of the most unique places to view the eiffel tower in its glory so jenny and i met with our new friend for a photo shoot session because why not it's a beautiful place to sit on the steps and watch the sun go down while the eiffel tower lights up since we were near our hotel we walked over to the bistro de la tour i fell for french onion soup and steak fruits the food was alright but the service was great and then we ended our last night in paris at the gatsby a 1920s themed cocktail bar around the corner of our hotel for a night of cocktails with french locals on the morning of our last day on day four we checked out of our hotel and walked to de luz university for our last photo op with the eiffel tower then we went to have breakfast at angelina paris a 1900 tea room famous for their refined pastries and hot chocolate which was amazing it was thick and rich and they served it with whipped cream on the side so we had a food bucket list to complete so we actually ordered two breakfasts each the parisian breakfast with croissants pastries fruit juice and hot chocolate and the hulk madame a ham and cheese sandwich topped with an egg hat i recommend this place for a bougie parisian breakfast experience and for our last day we walked around paris to buy french goods from everything between souvenir stores pharmacies and luxury brands and the last mistake forgetting to bring your passports while shopping especially if you're buying from luxury brands so luxury brands are cheaper in europe and even more of the brand originated from the country you're shopping in so as long as you're spending more than 100 euros you can shop tax-free so if you travel to the eu you'll go to any global blue station they're always at the airports and get your tax refunded back to you before you fly out and if you're like me and you're military based in the eu then you can get the tax removed at purchase i had so much fun shopping in paris so if you'd love to see my shopping haul you can check out my paris vlog video here afterwards we had our last meal at cafe jorge sanc at shom solize it had a 3.6 out of 5 rating on google but the food for us was 5 stars we were craving a french favorite called moulifrite which are steamed mussels in white wine butter and parsley it made for a flavorful broth that really hit the spot especially since we visited in the middle of winter we washed it down with white wine before leaving back to germany so we went back to the hotel to pick up our luggage and this time took the cab instead of the metro to parque gardules station where we would be taking the train back home so that concludes our paris itinerary you can tell we had a lot of fun eating drinking and taking lots of photos and now i'll share more tips to help you make the most out of your trip to paris where to stay in paris we stayed at hotel la bortone and booked the executive room with an eiffel tower view and this was one of the more affordable hotels that had a view of the eiffel tower but and i say this with a big butt so we booked this in the middle of winter so it was low season so if you book this room during peak season price is just going to be higher how to get around in paris there are four main ways the first one being the metro which is the fastest and the metro includes subway and bus so paris has a very good metro system and it's really easy to navigate and get around even if you don't know french you can buy individual tickets or one two three and five day passes which is especially useful if you plan to stay in paris for a very short time you can get your tickets and passes from the information desk at any metro station or you can also buy them online next are taxis which are easy to find and they're all over the city they're reasonably priced so don't hesitate to ride one but the cost will add up if you ride it all the time the third is a car rental which i actually don't recommend because just like any big city there's traffic cyclists and a lot of pedestrians the roads in paris are not as easy to navigate compared to like streets in san francisco or new york and my favorite way of getting around is walking it's easy it's free paris is a very walkable city and you won't get to experience the unique nooks of paris if you don't walk scams in paris to avoid if it's your first time in europe i would definitely make yourself familiar with scams just spend a few minutes of reading other people's experience on scams just to save yourself the money the time and the heartbreak i say that like at the same time did you really travel to europe and not get scammed anyway i have a couple links to my blog that will link you to popular scams in paris and how to avoid them so if you don't speak french and you speak english it's actually very easy to get around paris especially if you're in the tourist areas just like where we were and no one was rude to us they were actually really nice i would just study a little bit on like the most common phrases in french and asking certain questions in french and using the google translate app on your phone just to meet the other person in the middle plus learning a new language and trying to meet halfway with the locals and speaking their language is part of travel so don't be afraid to say the wrong grammar or have the wrong pronunciation they will appreciate it the digital kobit certificate so if there are still coveted restrictions in paris you'll need a digital covert certificate to get around it's a qr code on your phone that non-essential public places will scan before you enter so you need to have this on you or they won't let you in so to get this you bring your kovit 19 vaccination card to any pharmacy in paris they'll put you in the system and print you a qr code that you then transfer to the tues antikovid app and this qr code is valid across the eu but each country may have their own preferred app like in germany we use the covet pass app so to get this qr code at the pharmacy you have to pay 36 euros last i checked but right now as current as the date of when this video was posted in germany you can get this qr code for free last are kovit testing centers in paris so if you're traveling during the pandemic hopefully at this time when you're watching it it's over but let's say you need to get tested especially before you fly out i have a link on my website of a government website that lists all the koba testing centers in paris so that concludes my travel guide to paris if i had known how easy it was to travel to paris from where i live i would have gone much earlier and i would have gone much more often but next time when i go to paris i think i'll do a family theme to visit because that's my favorite movie if you like this video please give me a thumbs up and please subscribe to my channel if you like travel tips i also talk about vlogging personal development food fashion beauty and pretty much everything lifestyle so have fun travel safe
