coming up next it's Johnny Bravo on Cartoon [Music] Network here you are in 1997 you're sitting in front of your television and waiting for the newest Show from Cartoon Network when suddenly you're met with a tall blonde goofy guy and after just a few seconds it becomes clear this guy wants to date some ladies you aren't sure what is about to be broadcast but you're excited and as the episode starts you realize this show was pretty good what you didn't know was that the show you were watching would become an icon right before your eyes hey hey everybody what's up and welcome back to maob Goram Labs present School of boredom showcase things likely forgotten my name is bats and today we're going to talk about lesson CN 103 a date with Johnny Bravo a ladies man to nobody [Music] sass man I'm pretty the history originally created in 1995 by Van partable Johnny Bravo is the second of the Network's cartoon cartoons as I mentioned in my video about the what a cartoon show it would be those Pilots that spawned an entire series and one of the Network's most iconic GE characters according to the show's history Johnny Bravo started as a school thesis project by van partable that was originally about an Elis impersonator however after some trials hij Jinks and errors the short would find its way to none other than Hannah Barbara and they loved it it wouldn't be long after that until the studio would task van partable with redesigning the character into a property that they themselves would own so van partable and a small group of animators got to work and created the the first of three short cartoons and it was called Johnny Bravo as I mentioned in CN 102 it would air on the what a cartoon show there were two other shorts with jungle boy and Mr Monkey Man and Johnny Bravo and the Amazon Women these two would also air on the wi a cartoon show after this the show would gain major popularity so much so in fact it would lead to the show getting green lit for its first full season so van partable would have a team of all stars working with him including the talents of Butch Hartman of Fairly Odd Parents Fame John McIntyre of Rocco's Modern Life and Seth McFarlan a Family Guy and Steve Marell from well a lot of things so the decision was made to take him from an Elvis impersonator to a James Dean style lunkhead however he would still use the manorisms of the king himself they would dress the character up in blue jeans a black T-shirt sunglasses and a blonde pomidor he'd be presented as a skirt chasing sexist dimwit whose sole purpose was to get himself a lady now this show was known to push boundaries with its adult jokes violence crass humor and edgy situations during a couple of interviews it has been said that both van partable and Butch Hartman have stated that the network didn't really care about the edgy stuff and that there were actually very few restrictions this is in wide belief that it is because the executives thought nobody watched the network so there was little risk of cry Crossing too many lines partable has said that he wanted the cartoon to be reminiscent of classic Saturday morning cartoons with a middle segment that would be like Johnny Bravo meets where the titular character would get to meet a celebrity that would be involved with the segment story there was a long list of celebrity and well-known cartoon character cameos throughout this show and the show used a lot of references to pop culture as well however some of the most notable cameos are Donnie Osmond Santa Claus Adam West Seth Green sha scoobydoo and many other Hannah Barbara cartoon cameos the problem with success things were looking good however the best laid plans often go Ary and after its first season finished in 1997 van partable would be let go from the studio but it's not what you might think this only happened because the super smart very intelligent big brained heavily in touch and best decisionmaking company ever Warner Brothers would take over Turner and with it Hannah Barbara it was at this point that the studio would make the brilliant decision to suspend the show but because money in 1999 seemingly out of nowhere they would give the green light to Johnny Bravo for two more seasons only this time around the creat of the character and show would be replaced by KK Ting blad bringing Ting blad on would force the show to stray away from the original in several ways including art style the humor and basic Vibe and this new Johnny Bravo would become the norm The Comeback and wouldn't you know it after season 3 wrapped up the show would get suspended yet again in 2002 only to be brought back in 2003 for season 4 the final season but this time van partable would return to co-direct and the show would return to its roots and go back to having the feel of season 1 but it is also worth noting that the jungle boy segments would be dropped for the final season like I said a majority of the episodes were about Johnny trying to get himself a lady but there were some episodes that were just Adventures who's who let me know your favorite Johnny Bravo episodes in the comments but who was it that brought this show to life well this show had an Allstar cast of voice actors starting with the man himself Johnny Bravo Johnny Bravo is voiced by the hilarious Jeff Bennett whom fans of my channel know as the voice of Dexter's dad from Dexter's Lab it has been said that Jeff Bennett used an impersonation of Elvis Presley to bring the character to life and that's kind of obvious next up is bunny Bravo Johnny's Mama never seen without her glasses bunny Bravo was voiced by Brenda vakaro and I feel like she did a great job of bringing to life the mom of a full-grown Manchild bunny is a fun character and although she is smarter than Johnny she's also not very smart herself that's not to say that she wouldn't do anything for her baby boy next up is little Susie it has been said that this little girl was highly intelligent and that this little smarty pants was voiced by one of my favorite voice actors ever May wh whom I'm sure most of you know as the voice of qara on avatar The Last Airbender though she has had many roles little suie was a little girl around 6 to 8 years old and I suspect she had a crush on Johnny but that's a topic for later up next Carl kiswick Carl is a nerd he wouldn't become part of the show until season 2 and I feel like that was one change that was actually not too bad of a thing although he had a very annoying voice he was voiced by the legend himself Tom Kenny Carl is said to be in his early 20s and Johnny's friend even if Johnny doesn't care moving on to Pops also introduced in season 2 and another somewhat welcome addition to the Show Pops was voiced by Larry Drake pops kind of acts as Johnny's impromptu Father Figure offering advice and wisdom pops himself has a very mysterious past and is quite the character waiter there's a fly in my suit welcome to Pops Pops corn chot I'm a flying even I'm revolted the specials there were a whole bunch of other characters throughout the show but we're not going to get into them here we'll be here for hours but Johnny Bravo did have two specials with a Johnny Bravo Christmas written and directed by van partable and Robert Alvarez in 2001 this episode was a typical holiday episode featuring a story of about Johnny meeting Santa Claus and this would also become the most notorious Donnie Osmond episode that fans still talk about to this day the second special also created by the same Duo it's Valentine's Day Johnny Bravo was a rare Valentine's Day special not that the episode was rare it is but that it's rare for cartoons to do Valentine's Day specials coincidentally Valentine's Day happens to be Johnny Bravo's birthday the special is basically joh Johnny going out to find a date for his birthday and failing horribly even though his mother had a few dates lined up for him he wanted to find a date himself hi Jinx and Sue and I might talk about this special more later on and finally there was one more special however we didn't get it here in the US I'm talking about of course Johnny Goes to Bollywood now I have to say that I personally have not seen this one yet but I am on the lookout for it but here's what I could find about it it's not the episode from the show with the same title and Van partable was actually the only American involved with its entire production the basic premise that I understand for this one is after seeing a where they now Style Show featuring Johnny Bravo himself Johnny realizes that people have forgotten about him so he sets out on a journey to Hollywood to prove he's still just as important as he always was the problem is is that he accidentally goes to Bollywood India apparently mistaking Hollywood and Indiana based on what I read he gets wrapped up in a murder plot with his Indian counterpart Jiggy and I'll try to cover this one at some point this season if I can find it the merchandise there was a vast array of varying merchandise for Johnny Bravo but no notably plush dolls cake toppers cereal and fast food toys and the usual clothing and even as of recently a couple of funco pop figures and yes there was a board game Johnny Bravo catch him if you can I'm not sure what this game is about but I do plan on getting a copy soon I'm looking at eBay and if I do I'll cover it in detail and aside from several appearances in other video games he actually did get one of his own and if I can find it I'll cover it as well the Johnny Bravo and hucka mega mighty Ultra extremo data Romo would release in Europe in 2007 in Australia and New Zealand in 2008 here in the United States we would get a Nintendo DS version in 2009 but no PS2 or any other legitimate version you can find copies of both on places like eBay and the price varies depending on what you want where is it now so where is the show today you can find the show in a variety of places services and mediums all at different prices and there are a few hard to find additions and those ones get up there in price but I'm sure it's available almost anywhere bat's thought I really liked this show and I feel like it was a fun goofy show that reminds me of the best of times of Saturday mornings although it was violent it was well written and while I didn't appreciate all of the changes from when Kirk team blad took over the addition of pops and Carl were a fun and welcome change with the current political climate I don't think this show would fly very well today but we're not going to get into any of that here we're all here to have a good time and have fun however it is held fondly in the hearts of the fans that watched it and I hope it never gets the dreaded reboot treatment but now you know what I think I've just got to ask were you a fan of Johnny Bravo if so what was your favorite character moment or episode if not what was your favorite childhood show have any comments or fun facts maybe I forgot something or maybe you have a suggestion for a future video perhaps you just want to stop in and say hi either way head
