A Butt-Mouthed Blob | Monster Sanctuary #1

hello and welcome i'm trying a new game today uh this game was actually donated to me by a friend on my discord his name's gren root or the discord name anyway so huge shout out to him for introducing me to this game and what really convinced me is the art style look at these cute little blobby friends oh my gosh i love i love their butt mouths and then uh this like steam engine cat and just everything about the aesthetics of this game is interesting but also the like technical like strategy aspects are cool too so i don't know a lot about the specifics of how this game is played we're gonna figure it out together but from what i understand it's like just a better pokemon um so i'm definitely down for that let's just go right into this so new game starting with empty slot uh we're definitely gonna be blue because obviously and our character name we're gonna be jump bloop a good character name yes of course we're bloom why not i've always noticed there's a big differentiation between oh hang on we'll talk later monster sanctuary is a land far from any other human civilization oh look at the little plant dude oh my gosh i'm gonna love this game but wild monsters are dangerous to humans monsters raised by them grow loyal to their owners [Music] there's the people most of the people in monster sanctuary reside in the keeper's stronghold okay cool cool oh my gosh look at this mushroom guy i like that a lot many of them learn to raise and train monsters so this does sound a lot like pokemon to me so far they call themselves monster keepers oh choose the familiar of your bloodline so we started blue let's see spectra wolf is water and wind and they have a bunch of different stats i like that they show you the stats here uh i kind of like the spectral toad so it's spectral wolf eagle toad and lion uh i'm team toad i think he's like a green little dude i'm going entirely based off what they look like but i feel a bit mismatched with my color right everyone's like red and red blue and blue i guess this person is mismatched too um i completely miss what they're saying each of these bloodlines is aided by a spectrum familiar yeah we're the toad family i'm just gonna be like hello oh my god that's a bad toad um but yeah anyway what i was noticing i'm just gonna skip this you can read this if you want jabloom is just starting to become a monster keeper like her ancestors before her i guess i chose a lady i didn't that's fine as with all starting monsters keeping her journey begins on the keeper's trail um there's two different types of people in games there's people who like name themselves like their own name or like consistently pick one name and go with it like i have a friend who just always names everything after himself but then there's other types of people who just come up with a random name every time it's always interesting seeing what people are i always come up with random names personally name your familiar toad i mean that's a pretty good name we're gonna go with toner [Music] he's totally toner monsters are wild things the only reason i'm helping you is to bond i share with your family oh is that toner talking to me most monsters are less inclined than me to help you this is why you must always raise your own monsters they will grow alongside you just as i will and they will fight for you the best way to gain a monster's loyalty is to hatch from an egg of course we have to fight to get those monsters eggs wait we steal eggs from monsters uh oh i don't know about this one initiate fight but contact we shall see if you live up to your ancestors [Music] cool cool cool so this is white i guess we're just going to start combat [Music] okay we got attacked we got mud cannon four by forty percent 160 magical damage earth type bubble burst four by forty percent magical damage water and tackle is three by sixty percent physical damage and it ignores 25 percent of the target's defense so i feel like tackle does the most damage so we're gonna try it out oh i see so he's weak to fire and resists water okay so we're gonna try tackle on him boom take that he's got bubbles okay so i'm just gonna try mud cannon now because i used tackle before oh this is kind of fun okay so it is kind of like pokemon we have attacks but the the moves seem a lot more complex i guess we'll try bubble burst now i mean i'm already way stronger than him i think tackle is probably my strongest move i just wanted to see the other combat stipe combat types that were there so combat duration four turns healthiness 84 only two stars okay so this is kind of like final fantasy i think if you ever played that you get like things based on how well you win fights and blob eggs you can hatch blobs from okay [Music] there you go you've received a blob egg now you need to hatch the egg open the inventory menu and try and hatch it uh okay inventory blob egg oh man you just instantly hatch eggs yes we got a little blob friend um let's call this guy blubbles blubbles the blob now we don't have any eggs so we get out of here help okay um level the blob equipment skills feed you can feed the blob [Music] i don't have any oh here's a wooden stick okay and i think you need to level up to get skills so this is where the complexity comes from aside from pokemon like you get to choose all of the different stats each character has i believe so this one has uh i guess they'll probably explain this more but there's a lot of things a lot of things we have to learn as your first monster you've hatched by yourself right now it is weak so you'll need to train it there's much more for you to learn too you and that blob are quite alike i i like that compliment he's a patient teacher to young all young keepers who seek guidance i will invite you to listen to him very carefully oh look at his oh i got this wait can i have the blog friend be my friend here well no no twitch no i don't think i can have the blob friend follow me at least currently mountain's path so i think every time i touch a dude it's gonna be a battle and now i have these two and this is the blob friend skills so you can do damage or you can heal my friendos so i think i'm gonna attack first i can choose which blob and then we're going to tackle the same blob because generally in like 2v2 combat or whatever you really want to focus one down that way you don't have to endure two sets of attacks i mean the blobs are pretty weak but that's okay uh yeah let's just snipe this guy down and then tackle him [Music] and i think i'm gonna start healing with the blob because we can't have anyone have any damage over here and it's all 69 it's nice your turn okay shock him so i'm seeing this purple bar and this white bar i know that the white bar is my health i don't quite know what the purple bar is yet but i'm sure all of this will be explained there's got to be better stars right okay we got three stars i didn't get any eggs based on the effectiveness of your combat strategy you get a rating of one to five stars higher rating increases your chances of getting better jobs okay that's what i expected so it's like it's kind of cool it's like a platformer that's also a pokemon game or it's more final fantasy than pokemon i think young keeper is the keeper's trails beginning for all of man easton sanctuary has a beginning oh oh i want this thing what is that it's like a cat turtle pillar magma pillar but the face is a cat but it's a caterpillar all right let's definitely take this one down so i can inspect his stats right he's weak to water and he's weak to fire and he resists leaf but this is bolt type i want to kill whatever this thing is i'm killing it because i like it you know what i'm saying then we're gonna see if this water weakness see what this is all about oh boy punch combo i like this thing too i want all of these okay so bolt should kill that friend i'm sorry i kill you because i love you and then this one i think this one resists leaf which i'm not going to use mud cannon then let's just tackle this one oh that's a cool attack though yeah i think attack oh did i run out of purple thing is it just like a basic attack now i think i must have run out of so this purple bar is like pink on my blob dude look at his butt mouth yeah so i think i have 93 purple bar left does it go yeah i use my purple stuff to do that so i guess each attack takes an action and then when you run out you start using basic attacks okay that's good to know probably not gonna get many stars for that oh okay small antidote and a potato cool cool we level up we get a skill point on our frog or toader as our monsters gain experience in combat they will increase in level this allows them to gain new skills you should take a look at the skill tree menu so click on him skills [Music] then i get to choose one of these i guess oh no he starts with all of these how does this work like an upgraded mud cannon bubble beam these all seem very similar tackle ignores 25 of the target's defense damage reduction i like bubble beam [Music] oh could i learn those as well [Music] oh okay well we got a level two bubble beam now i guess or bubble burst [Music] that's cool there's a treasure chest obtained cestus so i'm guessing i'm giving everything to my my bubbles friend obviously [Music] justice is well you can see the status difference on the left so increases damage reduction and defense we want this guy to be tanky i think oh can i find other humans too no hey friend are you just starting using a monster keeper right did you find some equipment for your monsters already you can make your friends stronger by equipping them i already knew that dude okay now you guys get to see my awful platforming skills there's a reason i play magic obtained kunai magic regeneration plus 12. oh you know what i think i want to actually switch these because this dude ran out of magic first [Music] we can have that one [Music] and then this guy will give him the cestus love a tanky toter and a sneaky bubbles there's a chest up there i don't is it possible to get this [Music] i don't know if it is see if this guy says anything hey fellow keeper did you know that every single one of your monsters possesses a special ability some can be used to get rid of certain obstacles oh [Music] f is to use the monster's ability hey look at that obtain the vital ring plus 160 health i love it though maybe oh my gosh maybe the blob friend can do how do i oh i can just run like this that's easier the f [Music] how do i make this one be the one that's out which [Music] uh team skills i don't know maybe we'll come back and get that treasure chest all right bring it on bird i wonder if you get a bonus in some games like this you get a bonus for like sneaking up on the enemy i was like on top of the bird when we started combat does not seem to be the case let's so now this is the upgraded bubble burst what is m oh i can just switch where the attacks are alright let's use all of our oh actually mud cannon does more damage overall and it's cheaper so let's do that on the bird who is weak to mud cannon and then arcane bolt i would expect the bird to be weak to arcane bolts but he's going down son beating in heel okay so we mud cannon the bird then we can just keep attacking this guy okay the easy battles in most games like this are pretty um i'm really looking forward to when strategy gets more involved which will probably happen later so we're out of whatever this purple bar is on both of our friends but we could just attack this guy to death now so i need to find out i need to find like an item that gives me more [Music] purple bar oh am i not oh i think i think you regenerate some every turn and i was like skipping through the menus [Music] that's good to know that's good to know so i think yeah you get some every turn oh we got a vero egg and a walnut i love walnuts well actually let me rank my favorite nuts uh pecans i think are my favorite if you've ever like made toasted like buttered pecans like you just put pecans in a frying pan with butter and then you add cinnamon it's quite good so that's like my number one cashews are generally an acceptable nut uh levels is leveled up and walnuts are somewhere in there they're a good role player they're really good for like thickening stews or things like that or i put them in my smoothies all right so let's see if we can do something else so he has arcane bolts and heel i think i'm gonna go offensive for now um that way we can speed run through the beginning of the game magic proc every attack triggers an additional hit equal to 35 percent of magic value [Music] so i think [Music] try this i don't know seems right to me and then i got another item that's this oh accessories oh you can make him a healthy tanky boy that's cool most games you only get like one item you get four in this game which provides a lot of customizability man proposed through generations founded cities and nations connected by dirt and wheel and later by steam and steel these are like almost haikus obtained bracelet defense plus 10 mana regeneration so we're giving the amount of regeneration to blubbles [Music] there you go good friend and i don't know if i'm getting up there whoa who's that it's like a lightning cat eyeball thing i like it i'm just trying to get bracelets for my flubbers tainted gauntlet defense plus 12 crit chance plus five all right this is the the tanky boy [Music] does he look at just a lot of bracelets okay double birds see how strong we are now because the birds are weak to the earth damage [Music] i like this one arcane both you might so he had beating and might oh nice so there's attack buffs that brought your whole team oh my gosh yeah the combat is going to get really good later i can get i can already feel it so mud cannon i'm actually going to mud cannon this weaker one because the forgot his name flubbert or whatever does more damage um that would basically like waste your like extra damage because you always want to kill them exactly you don't want to like super overkill um some games i think have bonuses for overkill but as far as i could tell maybe there's something up here with combo which i don't quite know understand what that is but i'm sure they'll explain that later oh yeah i need to construct some friends that's true in real life and imagine if you could just like construct friends from eggs and you're like walking around with like all these friends they're like oh how'd you guys meet it's like well he hatched us that would be interesting so inventory i can make two of these i hope this is the caterpillar thing oh the bird is okay [Music] this guy is just [Music] okay [Music] um i don't see any downside to hatching another one [Music] and this one is burb [Music] and i think oh these are all level two now so i would prefer to use burb instead of just okay because the other one's just okay might applies might buff to the whole party and this one is beating so i like the might buff because you need some kind of like support um [Music] improve attack rating by one flies might buff the whole party apply sorcery buff to a random monster apply sidekick buff to a whole party combo buffing ooh every buff action applies one additional random buff i'm gonna try that all right you know what burb you're more than just okay [Music] man knew of those who wait in the woods and caverns beyond yet for the treasures within he longed when the greed of kings was great [Music] uh how do i [Music] might jump on top of this poll [Music] huh i don't feel like i'm capable of making that jump maybe there's got to be a way for me you know what i'm going to pause it and try and figure out how to get this bird friend aha this might do it we get a burb aha okay okay so now [Music] we have a bird that can fly okay i like this it's a and d i think you're supposed to be playing this with the gamepad but now we can go get all that treasure maybe just uh it's almost there all right you know we're gonna come back when i get the treasure okay okay we figured out you ready so it's more of a glide than it is a jump boost they go from here no no i thought i figured it out right okay you go you jump and then you glide perfect it's actually kind of difficult defense plus 10 mana plus 25 levels you're getting it all all of it only the best i don't even know what a diadem is that a helmet that kind of looks helmet-esque but now that we have this ability to fly oh i want to see what uh this dude skills is [Music] oh my gosh and he instantly teleports next to you to use it too i love it get him blubbles okay that does nothing so bird toter and bubble so you can change monsters based on what's going on so we're gonna buff our team with might give us a little bit of attack boost and then i'm imagining this bubble burst that's gonna do a lot of damage oh yeah and then arcane bolts finish off the magma pillar again killing him because i love him as one does leaf splash ignite oh so i have a burn effect it seems okay um yeah we'll go for beating now i guess we'll just like triple up on this magma pillar thing bubble burst that dude i like when this is going i like where this is going punch combo so okay so i took damage from burn it's not very clear what the status is of my friend can i check oh i can change who attacks when oh that's super useful okay okay so they were just going in like a default order tackle does the most damage uh maybe i'll try this one so you can choose which order you like move in yeah tackle does the most damage so this guy must be a bit tanky all right let me just beat him wait wait i want to try this so if i want to attack with bubbles instead i just can't okay that's so useful yeah yeah all right i'm getting the hang of this so that happens eventually i'm gonna learn how to check their status things please give me no just potatoes i don't want potatoes although i actually love potatoes eating them um this is just gonna be me talking about weird foods but what happens is i always buy sweet potatoes and then i just leave them out because like i'll cook most of them but there's only like one rogue sweet potato that you bought it was like at the bottom of the pile and you're like not super excited about it so you cook the other like the chunkier ones first and then you'll just get like mine just starts growing spuds and then we've had some pretty tall sweet potato uh towers before man of rock every attack triggers an additional hit equal to fifty percent of max mana so this makes sense if you're trying to like boost your total mana improve to mana rating by one okay so i think i'm gonna get more mana and then we're going to get mana proc so we can start doing damage with the the bubbles because we're going with our team for now because we have blubbles who has an affinity for water ooh double chest orb manner generation plus 12 morningstar defense plus 15 so levels of course actually [Music] you know i think very soon [Music] oh i see orb goes there [Music] uh well this bird needs something morning star i think this dude wants orb because he's kind of my my support and then we'll give totor plus 10 minus 30. [Music] oh yeah we're going for that one [Music] more attack all right bubbles get them okay so it is three on three now so we want to start with the bird we're just gonna buff our team with might and ackle oh they're all level three now let's kill this blob if we can and that you saw that little extra attack at the end i think that was my upgraded skill also these dudes do no damage to me [Music] um can i double stack might buffs i guess we'll find out [Music] s is for buff info physical skills deal 20 more glory increases so this is the random buff from the bird increases critical chance by 10 in critical damage by 20 active skills required 20 less mana oh that's nice okay so that's how you find buff info that's good to know um and we're gonna tackle to kill this guy and i guess let's find out if i can heal myself nice so it's okay let's check the buff info again 20 more damage and active skills require 20 less mana so if i use my again doesn't go up to 30 more damage is the question it does not okay so stacking might buffs doesn't do anything except for the fact that i get this extra random buff from using it but that definitely doesn't make sense to keep using i guess because i'm probably just better off attacking but we're doing some hefty damage over here uh this thing's doing the most damage also tackle ignores defense and this guy seemed to have a lot of defense so we're just gonna hit this blob and then i think tackle should just kill this friend over here next turn [Music] [Music] all right we're just going for beating beating on him [Music] tackle this dude does that not kill him i got a crit okay crits are very satisfying any amount of screen shake in a game is so satisfying as long as you don't overdo it that seems like a good amount of screen shake to me and we finish them off with the bird boom boom boom no no mine um all right we'll just tackle them down [Music] i almost wonder if it's bad to spec into water this early because a lot of the units seem to resist it rocky egg oh okay and we got copper oh my gosh there's so much going on in this game [Music] and are blubble's leveled up i love it i love it so first of all let's hatch the rocky egg yeah rocky um i kind of like the name rocky to be honest i think i'm just gonna keep that it's like alright rocky what have we got here you know what i think let's let's address these skills next time and i'll see you guys there thank you for watching
