hi it's jason welcome back to hardy brothers outdoors i've been able to escape suburbia this weekend and i am back in southeastern ohio and i brought the 1025r with me i've had this tractor since 2016 and what i wanted to do was talk about some things that as a new buyer or as a new tractor owner that you should probably be aware of and things that i find a lot of people aren't talking about so i don't know i guess they're things i feel like i've learned over time that others aren't talking about and you know maybe you should know about so i got five things i'm going to hit today i'm going to talk about the auto connect for the mid mount mower i'm going to talk about lift capacity i'm going to talk about horsepower and how it impacts what attachments you can use i'm going to talk about tip overs and i'm going to talk about the tractor overheating so five things i'm going to hit today and just i feel like these are things that you should know about that maybe others aren't telling you so first off let's talk about auto connect when you are shopping for this tractor i guarantee you i've got my phone talking to me here there we go i guarantee you while you're shopping for this tractor you will see a video that shows somebody driving on to the mid mower deck slowing down picking it up and driving off never getting off the tractor and they'll market it as you know auto connect and how great it is my experience with auto connect has not been that and when you look at the forums and talk to people you will find there's a lot of people that struggle with the auto connect the typical answer is if you if you get it adjusted correctly if you get it adjusted correctly it works great and the fact of the matter is the adjustment is a piece of it you've got to have it working correctly but the other side of it is it is not designed for you to drive on pick it up and drive off there are steps you have to take to get you have to get off the tractor and complete in order to mount the mower correctly they're not huge and it's probably easier than an old manual connection method but the fact of the matter is the auto connect doesn't work as smoothly as the videos will show you they've clearly used the videos they've done properly in optimal positions or situations and that's what you're showing they're showing you another thing that i see happen that impacts that is i don't just use my tractor in the yard so when i don't have the mower on i'm taking it up the hill i'm using it back in the fields i'm tilling i'm doing work back on the habitat oasis project we'll get into some muddy areas and one of the things that you you might run into is mud getting into the connector that connects into the the drive shaft for the uh mid mower so if that gets full of mud that's going to impact it if the ability for it to move up and down and self-adjust if it gets muddy and you don't keep it clean that will impact it so i'm not saying all these things are issues from a john deere perspective so much as things that you need to be aware of so if you're going to be using this in a dirty muddy environment you need to make sure you clean that up so that it moves and functions properly but the one thing that i would tell you is don't expect that that thing's going to work perfect 100 of the time one of the things i would suggest ask your dealer you know i only say ask make your dealer demonstrate that to you while you're at their location get a mower make them show you how it works i had asked about it they walked me through it all you do is you flip flip flip nobody wanted to show me how it works and i'm telling you ask someone to show you because it doesn't work quite the way everybody wants to make you think that it works so first item auto connect love it as a feature but it'll give you some fits second item lift capacity of the h-120 loader so the one thing you know the a continuous theme here around this tractor is this is an entry-level compact tractor for most people this is the first tractor they've owned that has a pto for attachments and a loader so people try to do more with this tractor than it's designed to do the lift capacity of this front end loader is 955 pounds when you look at the literature that is what they tell you 955 pounds but there's a difference in what attachments you have on the front with the bucket all of your weight is in close to the tractor with forks you might have 36 or 42 or 48 inch forks on there that move the weight out further from the tractor the further the weight is from the tractor the lower the capacity of the tractor is going to be the higher you lift that weight the bigger issues you're going to have it may lift that weight it may lift 955 pounds all the way to the top of the lift but it does start to impact stability so you just want to be aware of what you're lifting where the load is and how you're carrying it that 955 pounds you can get there pretty quick you know we've got some block that we've been moving up here they are i think they're 70 pounds apiece so 10 of those which is one nine of them go on a level one level with two more on top of it three more on top of it you're at 955 pounds so be aware of what attachments you're going to put on the front if you're putting a grapple on is the grapple heavier than the bucket so if you've got a grapple that's heavy and maybe you go with a grapple that's wider than your bucket that's going to impact what you're able to pick up with that so be aware of lift capacity i see a lot of people who are clearly lifting things that are heavier than this tractor should be lifting i hear a lot of people talk about adjusting uh the pressures on the hydraulics so they'll lift more you know it's your tractor it's up to you there's people who understand the hydraulic system better than i do so if you want to tinker with it that's up to you my personal belief is you know i'm going to leave mine set up the way it came from the factory i think it's set that way for both safety and for the benefit of the tractor so you don't tear it up um but ultimately that's your decision of uh what you want to do from a lift capacity whether you want to tinker with that okay third item is horsepower and how it impacts the pto and what this tractor is capable of when i bought this tractor i bought a four foot tiller a frontier tiller for it i later bought a 48 inch rotary mower a brush hog for it and they work great on this tractor i hear people all the time asking can i use a five foot tiller can i use a six foot tiller what size tiller can i use what size brush hog can i use this tractor is not designed for larger equipment you put larger equipment on and while it may spin the pto may spin and it may drive that attachment it creates stability issues that i find that with the brush hog with the length of it and the weight of it on a if i get on a side hill this tractor just doesn't feel i just don't feel that it's real stable not a comment on the tractor it's just the weight of the equipment when you start getting into much bigger items uh big uh wider than you're supposed to have on there heavier than you're supposed to have on there i just think you're looking for trouble it may work the pto may work and you may run that thing for two years before you have a problem and everything's worked fine but if you're running equipment off that pto that is supposed to have a larger pto output than what this tractor is providing you're doing damage and maybe today it may be tomorrow maybe a year from now or two years from now you're going to have issues as a result so i highly recommend when you're looking at attachments before you go to facebook and you ask you know forums and groups you know can i run this this size attachment on my pto talk to your dealer find out what he says because chances are he's going to tell you he's going to sell you equipment that is rated to fit the back of this tractor not something that is wider and is too heavy for this tractor and i'm telling you just sooner or later you're going to do damage so highly recommend four foot attachments unless your dealer tells you otherwise so that covers uh horsepower and pto next item tip overs i see a lot of people talk about tip overs and i've even heard people say that this tractor is prone to tipping my argument on that um it goes back to that whole concept of this is the first tractor most people have ever owned that has a loader on the front and the tip overs on this tractor really come down to people using the loader incorrectly and not following proper safety precautions it's not about the tractor being unstable it's people that are carrying loads that are too high it's people that are carrying loads that are too heavy um they are carrying loads and turning they're on uneven ground there's all kinds of reasons why people will tip this tractor over none of them are because of a fault of this tractor i'm willing to bet every single tip over that happens with this tractor it's the fault of the driver the operator it is not the fault of the manufacturer okay last item i'm going to talk about is overheating again not an issue with the tractor there's nothing wrong with this tractor that's causing overheats but it's something i've experienced and it's something i've seen a lot of other people talk about that they've experienced and what it comes down to is when i'm out brush hogging in the field and there's a lot of fluffy seed and tops in the in the air as i brush hogan you know it could just be you know the stuff that i'm cutting up as it turns to dust it will clog up this front radiator this tractor only sits this high off the ground so if you're brush hogging in deep stuff you're going to be collecting stuff as it's pulling air in the front trying to cool the engine you're going to collect a lot of stuff in addition to it just being on the front there's a screen inside that will also pick up you can see this screen has a little bit of stuff it's not terrible but you need to make sure you're pulling the screen out and cleaning it keep an eye back keep an eye on the temperature gauge because it will heat up if you're out brush hogging i guarantee you if you are it's a a lot of fluff and a lot of stuff in the air you're going to fill up the front of this radiator or the front screen and you're going to fill up the screen inside but that separates that's right in front of the radiator so overheats are going to happen unless you really stay on top of keeping those things clean and it's not just the 1025r that this happens to my 4052 r it will do the same thing if i'm not paying attention so overheats are gonna happen don't stop with just cleaning the front pull that screen out inside and occasionally you might need to pull that screen out and hit the actual radiator with um with an air hose to blow everything out of it so that's the other thing that i see so those are the five tips that i've got on things that they're not telling you about these aren't things that are necessarily problems with the tractor i'm going to say they're not problems with the tractor they are things that i've experienced i see a lot of other people experience and there's something that again if you're getting ready to buy you should thoroughly research and be aware of these things before you make that buying decision i absolutely love my uh 1025r i love my 4052r josh has a 2032r so we've got three john deere compact tractors on our property we like all of them we'd buy all of them again so thanks for joining i hope this was valuable if it was please hit the like button hit share subscribe hit the bell that will tell you every time that we release a new video so
