9/19/21 - Sunday Evening

wonderful boy the music has just been excellent today it always is but uh songs about heaven and then resting in the lord kind of a sobering type of a atmosphere with the singing today and it's all been beautiful so uh thank all of you that that is great second corinthians chapter six second corinthians chapter six i'm going to be a little bit teachy this morning but the lord has put this on my heart and i feel like we need to be reminded of these truths second corinthians chapter six i've titled the message this morning knowing who you are knowing who you are second corinthians chapter six and before we read let's pray together lord thank you for the morning this singing has just been excellent our hearts have already been stirred and i'm sure needs have been met just in listening to music that was chosen with purpose and i i'm so thankful for it i pray that now in these next few minutes that you'll use the word of god not anything new that we'll hear this morning but a good reminder of why we need to live in the way that we should and so i pray that you'll use the message now and we'll thank you for it in jesus name amen second corinthians chapter six this past week i preached in a tent meeting on monday night and tuesday night and and um and miss han i did tell brother reed that you said hello and uh when i told him that hannah harris i said used to be hannah harris and i said but now she's hannah schroeder and she's married to the youth pastor of our church so she is now a youth pastor's wife and brother reed acted like he was having a heart attack and and but he's a grandpa now and i enjoyed being with him and brother castle and and others we saw brother kemp and it was a it was a fun uh enjoyable profitable uh few days on tuesday night the lord put on my heart to preach a message that i titled it's too late i've preached that message here to all of you and basically reminded everybody that you can say no to the holy spirit of god one too many times and the holy spirit of god then will quit calling and so i felt like it would be an appropriate message on a tuesday night uh underneath the tent i thought it would be a message where i would really just what i call sometimes just throw a fit and that was my um that was my thought that would this was the direction that i thought that i would go but boy things just started out in a different tone and um and i didn't preach the message in the way that i i thought it would have gone and the truth is there was just a hush underneath the tent it was just and i thought to myself that wow as either everybody is really tired or this is so boring they just aren't getting it and uh but the altars were full i had people that come to me afterwards and and even one of the preachers and and he said wow he said it has been a while since i have been in a service to where there was just a hush over over the crowd and and i just tried to follow the holy spirit which was the theme of the message this preacher said to me he said you know brother levins he said to preach a message in the way that you preached it tonight he said you have to know who you are and you have to have a god confidence to do what you did tonight and and i said well i i guess i take that as a compliment so uh thank you and and he he talked for probably five ten different minutes of just expressing his appreciation uh for the message and um and that that that thought really jumped out at me that knowing who you are i've preached long enough been a christian long enough now that to me this christianity is something that is has always been serious to me when i got saved i knew that something happened inside of me that changed me and uh and and so i appreciated his comment and i i thought it would be good to remind you tonight of or this morning of who you are and you need to know who you are those you've been a christian for some time and you're older i guess i'll let you determine at what bracket that that would be um you are sometimes really taken back at the wickedness in this world i um bro jose you have your hands full we got teenagers sitting here right now that i'm sure are involved in things that would just um that it would embarrass me to just to be a part of i i look at some of the lifestyle of of some people and it amazes me surprises me i don't i hate to say shocked because being in the ministry as long as we've been in the ministry i almost can say there are very few things that shock me but every so often you run across something that just takes you back and and i think part of that is is i just wonder sometimes as some of our young people really know who they are do they really know who they are and so i want to give you some thoughts this morning of of trying to evaluate in your life of who you really are second corinthians chapter six and um look if you would at verse 14. be not unequally yoked together with unbelievers for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness and one communion hath light with darkness and one concord hath christ with belial or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel and what agreement hath the temple of god with idols for ye are the temple of the living god as god has said i will dwell and look at that next word in them and walk in them and i will be their god and they shall be my people in first corinthians chapter 3 and now i have a lot of scripture that we're going to go to here today uh this morning we'll get through as much of it as we can but if you want to turn back just a few pages to first corinthians chapter 3 and i i want to read a little bit more scripture about the temple of god first corinthians chapter 3 and look you would if you would at verse 16 know you not now keep in mind paul is teaching the corinthian church know you not that ye are the temple of god so in other words we need to know who we are so we're in first corinthians chapter 3 and verse 16 know you not that ye are the temple of god and that the spirit of god dwelleth here's that key word again in you if any man defile the temple of god him shall god destroy for the temple of god is holy which temple ye are now i struggled a little bit with verse 17 as i was studying for this if any man defile the temple of god him shall god destroy now if you put this in context of what paul was trying to teach the corinthian church there were some there were temples that were built for the purpose of worshipping other gods man-made gods and it must have been that some of the church some of the churches then were bringing some of these temples or considering to bring some of these not temples some of these idols into the house of god and so because when i'm reading this portion of scripture if any man defile the temple of god now there is a dual application here and i don't want you to miss it then if any man defile the temple of god and you know where we're headed and and that is that we are are we as as christians our bodies are the temple of god but there's another application here and and and i know that there have no there's there's some fine lines here i also believe that this sin unto death is for christians there have been a few times in my life that i believe i've watched some christians who are the temple of god get away from god and i've watched some of those people go to an early grave and we don't know the mind of god obviously but i really believe that there have been a few circumstances throughout my lifetime that i could say that in my opinion or even go as far as to say safely say that there were a few people that send the sin unto death one in particular i think of a young man that was a perfectionist and had everything going for him and his life and yet his life got to the point that he was living the life of an alcoholic and vomiting all over himself and and out of the ministry and losing a marriage and and his life was a mess and i think god looked at his life now don't miss this i think god looked at his life and for the sake of the heart of that young man when he was walking with the lord i think god said you know what your body has overcome you your flesh has overcome you the world has overcome you and the wiles of the devil have overcome you so in order to relieve you from your misery i'm going to bring you on home and personally i think that's what happened now i hate to say it in that way but it was almost a relief to that young man and to the family um to have that that fella in heaven as it was to see him continue to wreck and ruin to destroy his life now this temple that's being destroyed i don't think that we can does that mean that if we're the temple of god and every time we sin that we run the jeopardy of our personal bodies being destroyed there's another application now the answer to that is maybe but there's there's another application here and and i think paul is trying to teach tim or trying to teach the corinthian church that what you need to understand if you begin to bring all these idols into the church then all of you on an individual basis the holy spirit of god lives in you and since the holy spirit of god lives in you then the temple where all of you bring yourselves for the purpose of worship then this temple this building this temple paul is saying is holy because it was established for holy people but if you begin to mingle boy don't miss this if you begin to mingle the things with the world with the things of god in the house of god then god was saying i will bring that house down by the way that's the reason why we need churches more churches this day and age that actually look like church and that they act like church and that they're concerned about holiness and they're concerned about making sure that their music and their message and and and all that they do magnifies and glorifies and elevates the holy spirit of god and not our flesh and and so uh but yet there's that dual application let me remind you a child of god and the whole purpose of the message is to remind all of us of who we are and if you think you can live any way you want to live with rebelling against who you are and getting by with it be not deceived god is not mocked for whatsoever man soweth that shall he also reap the scripture says you go to the life of david that you know he committed a sin i it seemed like i've made reference to it and uh quite a bit in the last few months and and how that david committed a sin with bathsheba and god brought that sin uh to the forefront through nathan who was the prophet who was the preacher and so nathan told a story to david and david said that's terrible and then nathan said david you're the man and so david then confessed and god cleansed but i preached this to teenagers and preached it here to you all many times that that next verse and he confessed it and god cleansed him but the next verse says how be it that baby still died there was still a consequence let me remind you dear christian to live in the old way you want to live and thinking you're going to get by with it there is always a consequence for the direction of our lifestyle there's either the consequence of righteousness and and and so uh you know if we if we sow as galatians says about being not deceived then if we sow righteousness we're going to reap righteousness if we sow to the flesh we're going to reap the flesh and by the way it's a matter of time and god doesn't always reveal everybody i've seen god discipline some people like right away i mean they they make a silly mistake in their life and i've watched them pay for it immediately it seems like i've seen other people looks like they make silly decisions they keep making more silly decisions and more silly decisions and it goes on for months and years and years and years and and you're just saying how in the world can they live that way you know what they're once again we're not god and we have to leave it all up to god but boy many many times throughout the years it just seems like i've seen god when he deals with the life of other people that people live a certain way and they they learn and re live in rebellion against god live in rebellion against god live in rebellion against god living in rebellion against god and all of a sudden god all of a sudden god says that's enough that's enough and and uh what is i don't have it memorized but he that often be even proved hard in his neck shall suddenly be destroyed and that without remedy there comes a time if we think we can live any way we want to live when god says that's enough and the temple begins to fall apart and the life begins to fall apart it might be your time to deal with the consequences and god is just saying at this point that's without remedy and uh wow i mean there's so much here uh and so god says the the know you not that ye are the temple of god we need to be reminded of that knowing who you are first corinthians chapter six turn over just a little uh a few pages a few chapters first corinthians uh chapter six and look at verse 19. what and so paul puts this in question for him know ye not that your body is the temple of the holy ghost which is in you which you have of god and you're not your own for your bought with the price therefore glorify god in your body and in your spirit which are gods now we need to be reminded this morning of who we are we belong to the lord if you are a born-again christian you belong to the lord now some of this in corinthians paul is is teaching a dual application that that that place that you all meet if you mingle it uh with idols and you begin to bring bring those idols in that temple may be destroyed but i think also there's that truth of reminding us that the holy spirit of god lives inside of us there's other scripture that is very clear that the holy spirit lives inside of us if any man be in christ he's a new creature his spirit bears witness with our spirit that we are the sons of god john 14 and verse 17 even the spirit of truth whom the world cannot receive for he dwelleth with you and shall be in you romans chapter 8 uh talks about for they that are after the flesh to mind the things of the flesh but they they don't have the spirit the things are of the spirit and it goes on because a carnal mind is enmity against god we've been studying this for it is not subject to the law of god romans 8 and verse 9 for you are not in the flesh but in the spirit and and romans 8 9 for god dwelleth in you and and james chapter i mean there's a lot so much scripture that reminds us that the spirit of god dwelleth in us you see when we got saved god is so good to us that he gave us of his holy spirit and when we got saved the reason why we became a new creature is because this this this uh nature that we had this human nature became a divine nature because of the holy spirit that came and lived inside of us and our spirit which was a dead spirit was quickened and we became the children of god and now by the way we are holy not because what made this statement so many times throughout the years we're holy not because of what we were made of the the the holy of holies and the tabernacle and all of that that was built for the children of israel it was holy not because of what it was made out of but because of what dwelt inside of it and when the high priest would go in and and meet with uh meet with god what was called the chicano glory would would hover in that room and and that represented the holy spirit of god living inside of that room now when jesus died on the cross there was a veil that was written too and the reason why that veil that's the veil between the holy place and the holy of holies and the reason why that veil was written to i know i'm giving you a lot of information but the reason why that veil was written too is because jesus says you no longer have to have a high priest because of my death because i'm going to the father for you and i will be your mediator and now we have access to the father because of what jesus has done for us and then when jesus went to heaven boy i'm giving you a lot of stuff the holy uh the the the the disciples said well who's going to comfort us we got our comfort in you and jesus said i'm going to send another comforter and that's going to be the holy spirit look y'all we have the precious sweet holy spirit of god that lives inside of us if we're a born-again christian now i want to lay that foundation so that we can all understand who we are we need to know who we are young person if you're living a life in the muck and the mire and the filth and the wickedness of this world do you actually know who you are sometimes i want to ask the question to some of our young people you come in here and you sit in this auditorium and you sing the songs of god you're around a people of god you even talk like you know some of the phrases of god and then you get on your twitter and your facebook and you get in all of these different sites and sometimes what we see on those sites are two different people so now a fair question comes from your pastor do you even know who you are are you the uh twitter queen or king are you really a born-again christian do you have the desire to to worship the lord and have a good testimony so that others will see the lord in you or when you get in a private setting somewhere where you just got your you and your phone and your computer your your ipad or whatever else you might have and all of a sudden you turn into a different creature so i'm going to ask you the question do you even know who you are so the question i have first of all does the holy spirit of god dwell in you because if the holy spirit of god dwells in you the scripture is very clear that you don't relate or associate or have fellowship with the evil and the darkness of the world something inside of you when the old world creeps up and tries to tempt you something inside of you says this isn't right sometimes we we have to deal with certain things and i'm not on facebook and i'm i i don't have a twitter account and all that others i wish i could remember it all i don't have them all written down but there's others that that y'all all participate in and and i'm telling you i've seen a few things when somebody says preacher are you aware and you know and somebody will show me something i'll look at something well i'm telling you there are times that that i've just looked at some things and i've just i just felt dirty i mean right away i just felt dirty tick-tock remember years ago when i came in here and and myspace came out and boy i'd stand up and i'd say some of you parents need to be uh where you know my face your space my you know and i had all of my different little adjectives and and i said mom and daddy you need to get your kids before you get out of here and you you i said don't you let your kids go get any computers or anything and you all need to go home you need to sit down with your kids and you need to get on my space and some of your parents are like what my space what the world are you talking about and i said right i mean you need to go home you need to find out what your kids are doing your kids are getting into a bunch of worldliness and you need to know what's going on i'm telling you my phone started to ring off the wall preacher i had no idea i didn't know my kids were i'm going to tell you something we're dealing with right now the thing that fear the the fear that i have is we have a bunch of parents that have no idea i'm not even on this on this stuff but sometimes people ask me preacher how do you find out different things sometimes i want to say look y'all i'm not even on all of this stuff and i'm smarter than some of you that are on it some of you act like well man how do you see that have you all ever heard of any fake accounts you parents are dummies all you got to do is come up with a different few different names and a few different initials and your kids are so wrapped up and hitting a goal somewhere they'll accept somebody into their little world and not even know who they are so all you got to do is just make up a different account that doesn't say mom and dad whatever your last name is i mean obviously they aren't going to accept you this is your mom that wants to be a friend they're going to say no they aren't going to accept you you know but if you end up being somebody you know you know tim from taiwan or something i don't know you make up your own you know and and so they're gonna they're gonna say oh man i might accept them that might get me to a hundred if i can accept them i get a hundred followers they don't know anything about you but they're going to accept you are you kidding mom and dad you say that you're wanting to watch all the things and be in charge of everything that your kids are doing you don't have more sense and to come up with your own little private account that's how come all these kids are getting involved in all these things they got all their private accounts is this a sunday night message instead of a sunday morning and if y'all ever thought about just following some of the friends of your kids friends and their friends and then the next thing you know something pops up and you're saying oh wow this sounds like my kid but it's a different name i want to ask you the question do you know who you are sometimes i don't know who people are like wow i thought their person would like to sit in the church pews and really honor and glorify god and give praise to the lord that's who i thought they were and so i'm just asking a fair question do you even know who you are and so i have three more pages to go y'all in this three till noon and so um i may have to come back to this i guess you know the holy spirit of god is so sensitive that you can literally grieve the holy spirit of god i'm glad that when i see something that's not right that it bothers me i'm glad vulgarity bothers me i'm glad the cussing bothers me i'm glad when somebody rebels or thinks the against the things of god i mean the list goes on it bothers me when somebody isn't proud to be an american i mean if i know it's getting tougher and tougher but those of us i understand what america was established on we need to keep lifting the flag and and the banner and and and and one nation under god and and and i mean there are just some things that bother me and you know some of the things that i see some of the things that i see that people are involved in you just that grieving ephesians tells us let me tell you where we're headed i'm not going to get there this morning when it comes to the holy spirit of god understanding knowing who we are that the holy spirit of god lives inside of us ephesians says that we're not to grieve the holy spirit of god whereby you are sealed unto the day of redemption that word grieve means to distress to sadden to be in heaviness now think about this friday night saturday night you're you're a born-again christian if that's the case the holy spirit of god dwells in you so everywhere you go holy spirit's with you let me give you a little bit example you can get you can get home multiple different ways you're used to going home the same way but one night you come to that intersection to whether you got to keep going straight or you got to turn and something inside of you says you need to go the other that other way home tonight and so you went the other way and you find out later on you don't know why you just kind of felt like man i need to go the other way and you did and sometimes you may not even know why but every so often you'll just go another way and because something inside of you said you just need to go another direction and you find out later on had you gone the other way you would have been in the middle of an accident or a heartache or something you know what that is that's the holy spirit of god guiding you directing you being a part of your life that's all called the leading of the holy spirit of god so you see the holy spirit of god dwells inside of you here's what's happening to way too many of our churches this day and age friday and saturday night too many of god's people are going out to the nightclubs to the nudi joints to the places of evil maybe they aren't going out maybe they're bringing it all in and friday night they're in engulfing themselves and all of this nonsense and saturday they're doing the same and then they go to bed about three or four a.m on saturday night the whole time knowing you've got to get up and act like a christian in a few hours and so you get up on a sunday morning you don't have enough sleep you don't have time to eat you barely get yourself all put together and you come to church and you sit here on a sunday morning thinking about all the nudity that you saw on saturday night thinking about all of the cuss words you saw on saturday night thinking about all of the wrong philosophies that you saw on saturday night and the preacher says turn your bible or the choir sings a beautiful song about heaven and and and and a a wonderful couple sings about resting in the things of god and you got to keep yourself awake and oh man i shouldn't be looking at all that nudity but when is that preacher gonna be done i gotta get back to tick-tock and there you are the preacher comes in and tries to teach a little bit about the holy spirit of god acting on the things of god and and yet churches across this country have people sitting in them that are children of god who have drug you've heard me use this illustration do you honestly think when when when you go into that wrong place that you're going to do you think you can just say to the holy spirit of god that dwells inside of you hey holy spirit jump out of me right now because you just wait for me out here on the sidewalk i'm going to go in here and do some really bad things and then and then when i'm done doing all my bad things i'll come out and and and i'll pick you back up a little bit later on and then we'll go on home hey holy spirit why don't you just jump out of me right now while i hit this little enter button hey holy spirit why don't you just leave me alone for a little while while i make my personal video so i can get a few more followers and so holy spirit if you'll just leave me alone for a few hours i could be real popular in this whole world if you just leave me alone for a little while and then you finish and then you just go back out and say okay holy spirit i'm you can come on back in now let me remind you of something it doesn't work that way so as a child of god wherever you go if you are truly a child of god do you understand that you take the holy spirit with you which means that the holy spirit goes with you into that smutty place holy spirit of god goes with you to that evil place the holy spirit has to sit there and endure while you're watching all of that junk and the holy spirit is grieved and saddened and made heavy and yet we want to come to church and have liberty let me tell you what we need we need to have more people understanding who they really are and having to make the decision first of all you've got to ask yourself are you really a truly a born-again christian and if you are the holy spirit of god dwells inside of you so now you got to ask yourself another question if the holy spirit of god dwells inside of you do you ever get under conviction do you ever get under conviction when you're looking at the wrong things when you're participating in the wrong things when you're going to all the wrong places does the holy spirit ever convict you and and if the holy spirit has convicted you you need to respond when the holy spirit convicts you and thank god that the holy spirit has convicted you but the problem is if you get to the point where you say no to god so many times the holy spirit of god will say to you like he did the children of wilderness okay then just die in the wilderness lord we be here lord we're ready to go over the mountain that you called us going to and moses said no you're not going now or joshua i guess said to them you're not going now go ahead you're on your own though god's not with you bathsheba says to to not bathsheba delilah says to samson samson the philistines are among you and he woke up and as he did a four time and tried to break all the strands that he was tied with but he wished not that the spirit had departed from him wasn't he aware of it mom and daddy i want to tell you what you need to be looking for a sensitivity in the heart of your kids do they have any desire at all to even want to do right or is it just an all-out rebellion against the things of god and against church and the word of god and the man of god and the house of god i'm not even close to getting through all of my notes but i want to remind you that the holy spirit of god is so sensitive that it concerns me how people can shake their fist in the face of a holy god and claim to be a christian and think you can get by with that kind of a lifestyle by the way you might for a little while you might for a little while but that in itself is the whole reason y'all why when i say when we come to church and the choir sings a song and a spirit of god moves in your heart get to an altar i'm okay with that because i've watched people hold off on responding to god and just let it get away from them a specialist sung that the holy spirit of god speaks to your heart i beg you get to an altar young people you're driving your cars down the way listen to the wrong kind of stuff and the holy spirit of god says you ought to shut that off and get right there's your chance you ought to shut it off pull your car off to the side and and sometimes even you ought to get out of your car and get on your knees out in the field or something somewhere and say holy spirit of god i'm in trouble will you help me we never need to get in the habit of rejecting the holy spirit of god wow i got to quit when it comes to salvation we can't even get saved without the drawing of the holy spirit of god you sit here this morning you're hearing this preacher preach basically an old-fashioned message on on the holy spirit and on sin i beg you there's no reason for you to go to an eternal hell you have a loving father that manifested himself in the flesh and a loving god that became flesh for us died on the cross for us was buried rose again the third day and they get victory over this sin and victory over death and it'd be a shame if you're hearing the voice of this preacher to die and go to an eternal hell when you have a loving god who gave his life for you why don't you come to an old-fashioned altar this morning and say you know what i'm giving up i'm going to give my life to the lord i want to go to heaven when i die and and you use the illustration this morning brother hagin our about carl hatch i'm not saying that's the thing to do but he's talking about witnessing he said brother hat said to a fellow you want to go to heaven don't you the guy said no and so so brother hat said okay well just pray right now that god will let you go to hell it's like oh wow i'm not so sure that's a good soul winning tactic but you know if you don't even want to go to heaven okay then we'll just pray right now that god will make it impossible for you to go to hell that puts in a little bit different perspective doesn't it so if the holy spirit of god has spoken to your heart about salvation you ought to get to an old-fashioned altar and say lord i need you well that's one-fourth of my message that i thought i'd preach this morning but i think it's enough okay who are you anyway we need to know who we are and let's have a word of prayer
