so guys welcome back to a move before race and today we're gonna explore the most powerful 911 ever built now when I think about standard cars that get upgraded to more powerful performance versions I always think of it in kind of an anime Dragon Ball Z kind of way so if you have a standard 911 I think of the gt3 like a Super Saiyan level version of the car well then the car we're looking at today is perhaps a strong level version of that very car and that is the infamous gt2 RS [Music] so gt2 RS I want to start by saying to have this car 911 GB here in our in our driveway I'll say argh because it's us as a channel we have achieved this you guys and us it's an absolute honor to have perhaps the world's most desirable press car here to a be trusted with and B to review but now like we can only do it our BR let's find out the origins of how a beast like this came into being and it all started back in 1992 with a card known as the turbo lightweight so this was a proofing concept for something that the gt2 would eventually turn into and the way that I like to describe the gt2 is you take a normal turbo s you rip out the front drive shaft and you've essentially got a lighter weight more powerful version of the turbo S and that is what that car was originally kind of showing but the actual first car to use the gt2 name came in 1995 when Porsche had to have modulates the the 911 for gt2 racing series thus had to make some road cars and that is how the original gt2 came about in the 993 generation now even today's car follows a similar idea you take out the front drive shafts from the turbo you lower the weight of the car you've got bolted on gorgeous-looking rear wheel arches a big wing on the rear and now the original version of this car had about 430 brake horsepower latter versions 450 and that ended up being 57 versions of this car made only so if you ever see it it's a rare beast but the formula then was set for what was to be the 911 gt2 all power to the rear more power than a turbo S or any other 911 in a much more track focus car but then the infamous one the infamous one would come later the one that you guys would know as the Widowmaker and that was the 996 GT too what was that so this gt2 of the 996 generation in theory followed the same formula it was lighter by 100 kg like the previous gen was lighter by 200 it had almost up to 500 brake horsepower this time going to the rear wheels we also had carbon ceramic brakes for the first time again in an effort to save weight but no electronic stability or traction control aids of any kind just the judgment of your right foot foot and sheer dumb luck and I say she had dumb luck because this version of the car was notorious for being uncommunicative at the limit once you passed the limit of understeer it had hugely snappy oversteer and even the best drivers were caught out being left were softer than when they first got in the car hence the notoriety of the gt2 even till today as being the Widowmaker so naturally when Porsche released the 997 what they added more power did they could their Porsche so this one broke the 500 brake horsepower barrier also broke the 200 mile per hour barrier we had a low 3 second zero to 60 but this time we had a lot more in terms of stability in traction control aids and generally a car that was a lot more communicative to the driver I also found the design to be very very interesting of this generation we have a lovely titanium tipped exhaust with some shark fin surrounding the side and generally as you always have in the GT to a slightly unique body kit to anything else that you would see in the 911 series but then during this time there was another rule breaker in the motoring world and that was the Nissan GTR that had just made a storming lap of the Nurburgring so naturally Porsha being Porsche weren't gonna sit idly by so they started a skunkworks project codenamed project - 7 - 7 rather which was their target no bone rigging time to beat and that ended up being the first ever gt2 RS or Rennsport again based on the 997 version of the car so Porsche added another 90 brake horsepower to the standard gt2 yeah as if you could ever have something called the standard gt2 then the weight dropped by another 70 kg thanks to a carbon front bonnet we also had carbon front wings as an option for the first time more familiar-looking alloy designed to the modern cars and they managed to achieve the Nurburgring time that they set out to as well and this car was of course still a manual making it even very very very special to Porsche enthusiasts and petrol heads alike even today when the nine nine one generation we did not hear of anything until very very late in the generation in the 99 1.2 where our car today arrived and that is the 99 1.2 gt2 RS now in past generations the gt3 car became more the driver's choice for its naturally aspirated unit and generally a bit easier to point in going but this generation I feel is very very different and it's a more compelling car than any gt2 prior to it let's look at the headline figures first of all we've got 700 PS in this top 690 brake horsepower 750 Newton meters of torque in this rear-wheel drive car as well and a 0-60 of 2.7 seconds these are incredible figures now we're still using the turbo SS engine albeit now with bigger turbos we've got a full titanium exhaust system as well it is PDK only in order to just deal with that 750 Newton metres of torque the standard car comes with a magnesium roof we've got carbon wings on the front we've got a carbon bonnet we've got a carbon rear boot lid as well and if you go for the Weissach package which everybody does yes this 20k more but it's absolutely worth it because you again drop 30 kg worth of weight this time with a titanium roll cage inside the car you also get a carbon fiber roof instead of the magnesium one and you get these absolutely gorgeous magnesium multi-spoke alloy wheels just check these out these are actually lighter than the michelin cup two tires that adorned them absolutely mind-blowing as soon as this car hit any track in the world it broke the record of that track including the Nurburgring with a six minute 47 second time that was only recently beaten by a much more expensive Aventador svj it is simply one of the most capable cars in the world since its inception but for me the design is such an important part of this gt2 heritage and where in the past one might have confused the gt3 with the gt2 being a layman you cannot confuse the gt2 RS and the gt3 RS today so let's compare the two of them and have a look a bit at the design of this gt2 at the outset you can see everything about the front and the rear of the two cars is completely different particularly the front and the rear direct look I just feel that the gt2 RS looks that much more aggressive menacing and special than the gt3 does it's just the simplicity of it it doesn't look over designed at all let's go into some detail on this my favourite bit has to be the front of the car with these ginormous air intakes very square very unlike you'll see on any other Porsche in the entire lineup they just look so purposeful don't they of course you've got the carbon fibre boot lid but then you have these ducts in here which then cool the front brakes brakes again looking very very menacing indeed you've got these lovely carbon fiber cannons over the front wheel arch here this is how you do canids please Ames you take note with your plastic ones on the GTR Pro then of course you've got another signature gt2 designed here in carbon-fiber and a massive massive carbon rear wing you've got these two gigantic exhaust pipes and I love the exhaust in this car not just the sound but how it operates and I'll show you that later but just look how good it looks it's not over designed there's not too many lines it looks so purposeful yes there's a lot of black plastic but it almost just looks right on this car doesn't it everything that's been designed on this car has clearly been done from an engineering and a mechanical point of view to make it as efficient as possible in order to deal with that near 700 brake horsepower going to the rear of this Cup it is a tool for a purpose and that purpose is completely dominating tarmac now what could go up against a car like this to me be svj being in its price range doesn't even come into consideration and really the only real threat comes internally from the gt3 RS which we will explore the history of very shortly but there is one other out there vying for this cars records and performance and that is AMG's GT Black Series that's being developed at the moment with a very gt3 front end we'll have to see what AMG can pull out of their hats with their new screamin v8 monster and whether it'll match up to this absolute beast but the best competition for me for any Porsche always comes from inside so I must look at then will there be a future for the gt2 in the nine nine two generation I really really hope there will be and there may be some hope because a gt2 has always been a turbo engine car so with this car we can expect again a turbo engine although for once when I'm doing a rendering of the future I really can't build upon the design of this current generation it to me it's perfect so all I'm really going to do is show you what a gt2 RS and 992 form would look like using the current design language I hope it comes because for me this car is such a symbol for the entire automotive world that things are still alright despite those awful electric cars existing now guys let's have a quick look inside the gt2 RS before we go out on the run right now what I want to show you inside the gt2 RS is interior is less about what we normally talk about my entertainment systems and the steering wheels and all the rest of it it's more about the theater of the place that begins in the driver's seat these are the best track seats over satin I really hate the ones in my GTR because they kind of they have this element which protrudes even more and stops you from doing anything in the large center console these are brilliant I mean they've made fully of carbon-fiber they're stitched and they they're shaped beautifully but mainly you're not going anywhere the lumbar is perfect they're just incredible track seats even though they're completely under just above them and they just look the part just look at them look at the carbon inside the headrest they're obviously you've got why psyche RS to remind you that you've got the Weissach package you also got that here and the cupholders which I really like in the 99 one generation and then of course the most intimidating roll cage that you will ever see in a car that isn't a racing car exists in here this is a titanium roll cage of the white package you can kind of see the hollowed out areas within the bars themselves it's all theater in this car the other thing I really liked you haven't got any silly drive selector thing like you have in modern Porsches or AMG's and we're going to talk about that later why I really like that it's just a steering wheel Carbon paddles here beautiful what lovely design on this and a carbon steering will finish things off loads of Alcantara and just a really theatrical place to be now talking about theater how can you not talk about turning this car on we can do that now let's see that's with the valves closed now the valves in this car are my favorite valves on any car I've ever seen ever watch this listen to that I'll do it again the whole ambience changes you can actually I can hear the opening of the flaps at the back and the reason I can hear them they're right at the end of the bloody tips it's incredible what does it sound like when you're revving it [Music] we're gonna go out and I'm gonna show you what happened yesterday and just as a spoiler I need to tell you right now that this is the best car that I've ever driven so please enjoy this is about as intimidating as a road test can get a is the Widowmaker and be probably the greasiest conditions we've ever had out here in our studio test track but as they say in the deep end is sometimes the best way to learn so let's jump in wish me luck it's not all bad I'm equal part excited as I am terrified so let's get this car started up growl with purpose and then you press the exhaust button which we'll talk about later and everything just changes I have been waiting so long for this that's time for us a lot have some fun [Music] first impressions of speed and fraction it's genuinely genuinely scary most fast cars that make you smile and giggle this one kind of flashes your life past your eyes is it part of the notoriety of this being the Widowmaker I don't think it is it's not that even if you didn't know what this cars name was you would still be terrified it because just how connected you are how you hear every single mechanical element of this car you are well aware that this is like nothing you've ever sat it before we got stripped out sound deadening in this car so you can literally hear every single little thing that goes on I can even hear the rear brakes as they're working it's like a grinding sound almost as if your life expectancy is slowly being chopped away if I close my eyes which opcodes do I'm sure I could even feel the texture of the road through the steering wheel that's just happen next if you squeal suppose Road and car hearing the brakes hearing the exhaust flaps open feeling the undercarriage vibrate I've only ever felt this way twice before one was in the DTM car the other was in the gt3 motorsport car and that's what this car reminds me of it's a motorsport racing it's really a race car then he's all about speed well there's nothing like it it's so so fast what is this one step am I die but I'm very happy it's mandatory 9:11 gb next to the word savage in the english dictionary then they try to convince you that this is an electric steering broken electric there's just no way I want them to unpackage it and show it to make it just I've never experienced an electric crash with this much feedback it feels as good as any hydraulic steering that I've ever experienced then you combine that with the four-wheel steer as you get in the three RS and the turbo S which almost feels like overkill because you can place this carcass anyway now if I slow down for a sec that four-wheel steer in daily manoeuvres gives you an awesome turning so if I'm just doing a 360 on this two-lane road but when you go to windy roads as you know it shortens the wheelbase and it's feeling that's making this even more cart like and then it's just racecar I want to keep saying that because that's what it feels like and you talk about fraction even on a wet day like this the two RS to start building power even before you're out of the corner that's huge cut two tires from Michelin absolutely brilliant slightly scary on a wet day like this but the grip you get Wow it just handles like nothing I've ever driven ever on this road any other Road lot of people than complain about Nurburgring times how they're not relevant real well but this car was the fastest production car in the world and when you're doing a test like this even in wet conditions you get a glimpse of just how a car like this can achieve something like that you see a bit of the brilliance in our testing studio here there's always a lot of bumps and you do get the cars leaving the ground sometimes but the other thing that you've really filled in the 2 RS the downforce that you get just how it sticks to the road you've got a thousand pounds worth of downforce capable to just from that rear wing and really the wheels just always want to stay planted to the road all of it helps when you're trying to drive faster and faster and the other thing is the snappiness of the gearbox I don't think I've ever experienced no Porsche or any other cars where the shifts are so instantaneous again reminds me of those motorsport cars that you're in I've been watched now shift shift when you click the button even before your brain is registered that the button is returning to its neutral position you've already shifted here just talk about sound for a second ok the damned exhaust valves are at the end of the bloody pipes look about right at the end of the pipes is it any wonder that this sounds the way that it does I've never heard a big turbo engine car sound like this you get so much of the turbo noise but loads and loads of the mechanical engine noise as well so mister all the sound now while it doesn't wrap to almost 9,000 like the three Rs well it just doesn't sound like any car like that just one of the most unique exhaust sounds that I've ever heard and it's really addictive now this is a 911 so owners do expect a modicum of daily use to spite the Viper this is the two RS I don't think I could daily this car and it's not because it's not capable of being daily it just feels so anxious and upset if it's just doing a motorway run it's just not happy now it's something like the AMG GT hours I've spent many years with it's by pleasurable to drive slowly you get a nice v8 Rumble this car when you know just how different driving normally versus full attack mode is like I said the Cardus feels frustrated it does not want to be on a normal British Road yep there's something so satisfying isn't there with using a car like that some plodding along in there and doing your daily bits knowing just how capable it is and how at the blink of an eye it can just read down a road and scare you don't give that full 700 PS and you're right at the top of the rev range and then the PDK software itself it's just so clever that it allows you to manage it let me explain that you have not got a plethora of modes you ever got comfort Eco sport Sport Plus Sport Plus class race race Plus no that's not how the 2 RS works it's just all go so when you come in it you kind of expect more crap a little bit funny hopping down the road but the car is not like that as you saw when we were taking off you kind of have to push it to get it going and it's so clever I think seldom do you even have to put it into manual the car knows how you want to shift it knows how you want to drive just from the way that your right foot behaves so the car basically is saying use your foot sensibly you silly human how does one even conclude they car like this one I never wanted to conclude I hope we always have some form of gt2 and gt3 in our lives I know it's not likely for that's happened with the shift and the automotive industry but more than any other cars the existence of these GT Porsche cars they're the lifeblood of the automotive industry this is truly the point where you really appreciate the engineering behind a combustion engine car all the aerodynamics all the weight saving all the weight management the cooling the noises everything comes down to this it's a 2 RS faster electric cars will eventually come and go but the pleasure of a car like this is only to be had here to me this is simply one of the greatest cars ever created it is just the peak of Motoring I absolutely love it guys I hope you enjoyed this has been such an honour for me to drive 911 GB the two RS you enjoy this video please do like and subscribe and share it share the history of this car and it's awesome series and I'm going to have some fun
