for the last night of camp can we get up for all the parents in the [Music] [Music] room [Music] [Music] anybody else happy to be in the room tonight [Applause] in the seasons of lockdowns and shutdowns there is something special about being in the room amen man god is so good god is so good if you have your bible let's open up to matthew chapter 16 matthew chapter 16. man uh as you've been meditating and leaning in to what we believe god's doing here not only in our youth group but in the region we've really wrestled on or landed on this theme of light everybody say light man light is such a a needed thing in the northwest we're known for darkness we're known for the dark days we're known for not seeing the sun for many months of the year but man if the northwest needs anything it's the light of jesus amen does anybody believe that the northwest needs the light of heaven to shine on the world come on but man i am just so expected and so excited for the lord's doing and i just i just want to draw attention to the fact that when we make room for the lord he is faithful to show up amen man i'm just so thankful that jesus is so in tune and so in love with his people that he wants to spend time with us that when we say jesus come and have your way that he shows up with mercy and with kindness and with goodness and friend it's the kindness and the goodness and the mercy of god that draws people to repentance and so friend of anything i just want to focus and highlight this king that we serve that is merciful that is kind that is good that no matter what i've done or where i've done it or who i've done it with he is chasing me down with the light of heaven unintimidated by my darkness but instead overcoming darkness with his marvelous light does anybody know this jesus matthew chapter 16 starting in verse 13. here's what it said now when jesus came into the district of caesarea philippi he asked his disciples who do people say that the son of man is and they said some say john the baptist others say elijah and others jeremiah or one of the prophets and he said to them but who do you say that i am everybody say who do you say there's a there's a defining moment in your life and in your walk with god where you have to make up your mind who you say that jesus is it's not enough to agree with what the culture says about what the pastor says or even what the church says about who jesus is at a certain moment in your life you've got to come to a deciding ground or a black and white moment or a light and dark moment when you decide who is jesus for me you know students can i challenge you tonight your parents faith is not enough to sustain you you need your own encounter with jesus you need your own walk with god because friend it doesn't matter who your parents say that jesus is who do you say that jesus is and friend if you're relying on my faith to bring you into heaven can i have bad news for you it's not enough but instead fred you need to decide for yourself who jesus is for you my i can't save you but jesus sure can and friend when jesus comes in like a flood then friend and nothing else can stand against him because he is the light of the world overcoming every bit of darkness who do you say that i am then simon peter replied you are the christ ever say the christ he is the christ the son of the living god and jesus answered him blessed are you simon barjona for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you but my father who is in heaven and i tell you you are peter everybody say peter and on this rock i will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it a man i am so excited to speak to you tonight i am so excited to speak to you and if you have if you want to write a title for this it's simply this the light overcomes the dark the light overcomes the dark the light overcomes the dark do you remember being a little kid though and how afraid you were of the dark anybody else like me okay can i show me your hands if you've ever put a nightlight up in your room anybody else okay we're all the same okay stop trying to shame me and when i said whose else was afraid of light none of you raised your hands and i felt guilty because i thought i was weird but at least we all had a nightlight okay so all my nightlight people show me again so i don't feel alone all right there's something good about not being alone in the room all right so uh this will also go much better if you talk to me while i talk to you okay anybody everybody say amen amen okay there we go okay so i remember being a little kid being so afraid of the dark and having like night lights and i'm just gonna tell them myself and i won't i will be alone in the room on this one i had a nightlight in my room until i was like 14 years old i was just terrified of the dark i was so afraid of the dark i didn't know what was going on and like uh it probably had something to do with my affinity for uh for horror movies i just thought they were the coolest things in the world and i don't know why because i always felt tortured by them you know it's like it's like eating spicy food it's like you eat it and you wonder immediately after why did i just do that uh and then a few hours later you wonder that even more uh but uh some of you guys will get that later but that's okay uh but i remember just being so afraid of the dark and not even really necessarily understanding why and i think it's funny that that when we're kids we have these weird ways of like fighting off like weird things in our room right like if have you has anybody ever done this put the covers over their head like like whatever scary thing was in your room is like covers oh i can't help but i i can't defeat covers i can't do anything about these covers the covers are there okay all right i'll back off you know but but for some reason we felt like whatever was underneath our bed as soon as we went under the covers it was like game over like we're safe we're safe or as soon as i turn on the lights then all of a sudden no matter what was in there the the the jacket that's hanging on my closet uh doorknob suddenly turned back into a jacket from this evil monster from monsters inc you know and so uh i just remember being so afraid of the dark and tonight friend i want to encourage you that we don't have to be afraid of the dark have you ever noticed this that when you turn on the lights the lights never struggle to overcome the dark think about this the light of christ when he shines in a room has no trouble overcoming any darkness that may be in the room because light has no trouble overcoming the dark but instead the darkness did you know this okay i'm gonna blow your mind with how smart i am with my science uh but but uh did you know this scientifically uh um scientifically darkness is simply this in absence of light darkness actually is a non-existent thing it's an absent of a thing hear me tonight when the bible says that the devil is the prince of darkness it's actually a mockery you're the prince of the absence you're a prince of nothing you're a prince of absolutely nothing yeah i i'm i'm the king of light i'm the king that shines bright like a sun but when you are you undefeated you weak defeated foes of satan you are actually just a prince of nothing at all you have no right you have no rule you have no place here because when the light comes in the dark has to go [Applause] this is our jesus see this is our jesus i think it's also funny how darkness never gets to determine what happens to the light have you ever done like like have you ever thought about this that like like um when you turn on a light the darkness isn't like like it's like you know like overcomes the the light bulb every now and then you're like oh man darkness is really powerful today you know light bulbs don't work i guess you know and you're just like but no darkness doesn't get to affect light instead light shines in the darkness light overcomes the dark i don't have to be afraid of the dark because the dark is absolutely nothing at all it's just simply the absence of the light and so when the light comes in the darkness has to flee the darkness has to flee this is my jesus so i think the problem though is that the church for too long feels like can i step on your toes for a moment are you do you want this okay i'll give it to you some of us act like the world has a dark light some of us think that seattle has a dark light where the light inside of me is affected by the darkness in the city frank can i help you the region does not get to determine with its darkness what god does with his light jesus when he shows up on the scene the darkness does not get to determine what happens to the light and actually scripture says this that the light shined in the darkness and the darkness couldn't even understand what was happening that when i like but here's the reality though too many christians who have been filled with the light of god walk into the city and are so afraid to touch anything to go into anything to approach certain people we're afraid to talk about different subjects and different topics because we're afraid that the darkness of the world is going to somehow hop on me and then all of a sudden overcome this light that's light that's already on the inside of me but friend the light shines in the darkness the darkness doesn't get to affect my light this is jesus that when he shows up on the scene and he rose from the grave on the third day his light broke through the darkness of the night and instead he's shown forth and shone out and his light is still shining and moving at the speed of light and is breaking off darkness over regions over principalities over people over demons and over principalities because friend the light shone into the darkness and the darkness still can't understand what's even happening friend this is jesus this is my jesus see but too many of us have been affected instead of being effective too many of us when we go into into culture we get affected by the culture instead of being effective against the culture student can i help you it's time for us to be out be able to have the boldness and the light of god to walk into high schools and watch the darkness begin to tremble at the light of christ that shines from the christians it's time for us to start flooding social media to where when we shine our light on the social media even the darkest dark cannot overcome the light that's beginning to shine forth friend this is the gospel that we are the light of the world shining forth and bringing forth as ambassadors of christ the light of god into the world around us and friend this is the good news of the gospel not that my darkness was too much for god to overcome but that his light was way too much for the darkness to overcome it and so no matter what you're struggling with no matter what you may be holding on to i want to encourage you of this friend that the light of god has been chasing you down and it's been chasing you down since genesis 1 when he said let there be light and it was coming for every ounce of darkness oh no matter what it was no matter what it surrounded you with but it's been chasing you down and friend this is the love of jesus that the love of the light of god has been chasing us down since genesis 1. this is the love of jesus that no matter what i've done no matter what i've do no matter what i'm going through no matter who i feel like i am as soon as christ declares me to be his light i am his light and no matter what the enemy may try and say against that it's just simply not true because the light shines in the darkness amen amen matthew chapter 16. let's read it again let's read it again says and you are peter and on this rock i will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it you are peter you are peter upon this rock of revelation i will build my church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it can i challenge you today you've been reading this scripture wrong because if you're anything like me every time i read the scripture for some reason i've got in my mind that the gates are moving towards me the gates are on offense i will build my church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it isn't it funny how for some reason the church loves to be on defense instead of offense to the point that we rearrange scripture and make gates move when gates are never supposed to be moved recognize this gates are put up when the enemy is coming against it gates show up on the scene when they close them to keep the outsiders from coming in the kingdom of darkness closed its gates and are trembling because the church of jesus christ is coming against it and no matter what they try and do to stop it i'm coming in with christ and the light of god is shining into the darkness friend it's about time that the christians of the world begin to plunder hell and start taking back what is rightfully ours what the enemy is stolen from us recognizing that no matter what the defense of the enemy stands against me the light of god has already overcome it isn't it funny though how we buy into all this craziness that well the gates of homosexuality are coming for the church the gates of witchcraft are coming for the church the gates of atheism and agnosticism and spiritual syncretism are all coming for the church friend politics are not the gates of politics are not coming for the church but instead the church of jesus christ is coming up against every gate and flinging them wide and letting the king of glory come in this is my jesus this is my jesus do you know him do you know this jesus he is not intimidated by the darkness or by the by the by the darkness or the bleakness of the night do you know my jesus who when he sees sin overcomes it with mercy do you know this jesus who when he sees ideologies comes comes upon it with grace and with mercy have you seen my jesus who when he sees sickness in the darkness of disease he comes in with the miraculous light of healing do you know my jesus do you know this jesus who is unintimidated and unfazed by the darkness of culture but instead knows and is confident in his own uh sovereignty of light that when he shines in everything else has to come to the light friend do you know him do you know my jesus because when i know him when i see jesus for who he truly is i'm no longer fazed by the darkness of the night and friend i want to encourage you tonight it's about time that the cro the church of christ begins to be planted and implanted with the light of god so when we go out into the darkness of the world we're able to shine with the light that breaks off bondage breaks off heaviness breaks off disease breaks off false false ideologies and mentalities come on i'm telling you this is the light of god that when we step in as the christians and we come into the darkness of the night then friend we don't have to be afraid of these things you know last night at church we had a some wild things start to happen and darkness began to shake when the light of god came in and it's it's so funny how when that stuff starts to happen everybody gets so afraid but it's just simply this we forgot that the light overcame the darkness [Applause] and friend we had so much stuff happening at camp and we had all these all these things starting to shake when the power of god came in but friend can i give you a testimony every single person that needed deliverance got delivered and that's my jesus that's my jesus that's my jesus we saw unforgiveness fall off we saw false mentalities fall off we saw a spirit of hate and suicide fall off we saw depression fall off we saw anxiety fall off why because the light of god came in in the darkness had to flee this is my jesus sit down sit down you're too much too much so friend i want to encourage you tonight the way we overcome culture and the darkness of culture is not by avoiding it and quarantining the church to our four walls but instead it's by making the church a beacon on a hill a lighthouse shining into the night saying this is where hope lives this is where joy lives this is where peace lives friend if anything the world needs it's hope if there's anything the world needs it's joy if there's anything the world needs it's peace why because the world has been struggling with depression and with anxiety and with hopelessness and suicide did you know this did you know that in teenagers from ages 12 to 18 suicide is the number one leading cause of death can i challenge us all tonight we need a church of light it's time do you remember the old song this little light of mine i'm gonna let it shine this little light of mine i'm gonna let it shine sing it [Applause] all right and then what about this one hide it under a bushel no right hide it under a bushel okay yeah yeah okay y'all went to children's church too all right good not just me hide it under a bushel no then friend why have you been hiding yours you know the song hide it under a bishop and the church goes yes hide it under a bushel well i don't want to be canceled hide it under a bushel well i have an influence now and i'm starting to get a following i'm starting to actually make traction on my social media accounts and i don't want to lose that friend when did we become so insecure when we become so unsure of who we were when did we forget that the light inside of us was placed there not for us light of god didn't come into you for you the light of god came into you so the people who live in the dark know where to go so friend it's time to let our light shine amen amen see we might have some people who are afraid of the dark in this room and friend we have a lot of churches in america who are afraid of the dark but i believe in a church and i see a church rising in the northwest who is unintimidated by darkness and instead believes in the light that's inside of them you know in acts chapter 2 it talks about being filled with the holy spirit and you know when we're saved and we say yes to jesus the holy spirit comes into us but what's interesting about acts chapter 2 when we're filled with the holy spirit is that that is when the spirit fills us to overflow meaning this that the spirit of god comes into you not for you but to spill out of you and friend tonight we're going to believe that some of you guys are going to be filled with the light of the holy spirit with courage and boldness to be able to carry forth this light to change the world amen does anybody believe that tonight if i can have some background music please that'd be great those the hunger and thirst for righteousness for they shall be filled who wants the holy spirit who wants the holy spirit who wants the holy spirit who wants the spirit of god wow wow thank you jesus if you're up at the front just by your head close your eyes just begin to love on jesus just begin to love him scripture says this and the day of pentecost arrived they were all in one place and suddenly there came a hell they ca they came from heaven sound like a mighty rushing wind and it filled the entire house when they were where they were sitting and divided tongues as a fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them and they were all filled with the holy spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the spirit gave them utterance [Music] friend the power of god is going to hit us tonight he's going to fill you with his spirit and friend what i want you to do when that happens is i just want you to give voice to what's coming out from the inside of you you know speaking in tongues or a prayer language it's not god grabbing your tongue and wiggling it around that would be really weird that would actually remove free will from speaking in tongues and god never does anything separate from his from your will meaning this that god will never do anything to you that you don't give him permission to do and so tonight would you just give him permission to fill you right right where you're at just close your eyes and just say jesus i give you permission to fill me with your spirit i'ma pray for you right now in jesus name i just asked for the mighty wind of god to blow in this place and lord from the heads of the from the top of their head to the soles of their feet i pray for a baptism of fire now in jesus name be filled with the holy spirit in jesus name right now i pray for my cousin todd would i pray that you would break off the the darkness of addiction of his life lord i pray for todd lord shine unto him shine into his darkness wherever he's at pour out your mercy on snohomish jesus would you pour out your goodness on snohomish jesus would you show us god the kindness of your heart lord i just break off all church hurt and god we just asked lord that your mercy would overcome all church hurt god church heard over our region jesus would you begin to just to come in with your goodness and with your mercy thank you jesus thank you jesus when you were in your darkest point [Music] come on when you were overcome by darkness when you didn't know how to get out when you didn't know which way was the right way when you didn't know which way was up how do you wish someone would have prayed for you lift up those prayers lift up those prayers come on there's a deep groaning from the inside of us coming out a groaning for the for the breaking of uh for the for the salvation of our people so lord we just groan jesus we ask lord for our city to have salvation god we pray for revival in our day and reformation in our lifetime lord we pray for revival in our day in reformation in our lifetime and holy spirit we just ask god would you do it again well what you started in marysville would you finish in snohomish god what you started back in the 90s would you finish it now god we believe lord what you did was incredible but god i thank you that you saved the best wine for last so holy spirit would you pour out again god would you do what you've so long to do in other places but have found other people unwilling but god tonight we declare that we are willing jesus we declare that we are willing we're a willing people a willing people and an able people willing to go into the places where everyone else is afraid of willing to talk to the people that everybody else is written off in jesus we declare tonight god that we are willing to go and we just say lord say here am i send me here am i send me and holy spirit we just give you permission god to rearrange our schedules god to rearrange our identity god to rearrange every part of who we are so that we could be your your willing vessels and lord jesus i just thank you lord for bringing off god every bit of dross and holy spirit we just give you permission god to do what you want come on right all over the room would you say holy spirit do what you want in me say do what you want in me say this say dear lord jesus show me the mercy that you want to show to my thank you lord for breaking forth into every specter or every every uh every sphere of society breaking forth got into social media into fashion business and art agriculture every society food industry everything what i think you look for breaking forth the light into every industry now in jesus name in jesus name and god i just commission us lord to be your people and you if we will if you will be our god we will be your people lord so we just say tonight you are our god so lord we are your people and so jesus we will be the light where we will be the light come on does anybody want to be the light of god will anybody be the light will anybody join me will anybody join us in this call will anybody join us to save to to be the light to the city come on does anybody else want to see the city saved does anybody want to see revival anybody want to see revival anyone does anybody want to see the spirit of god flood our city anybody else want to see the light of god flood the darkness come on does anybody else want to see depression and suicide flee flee flee flee flee come on this is our jesus so lord we ask that you would shine your light god into suicide and in depression all over seattle thank you jesus thank you god that you are not intimidated by the darkness of statistics but holy spirit your light can overcome even the darkest of nights so holy spirit we ask which you which you which you shined your light got on us and god changed the statistics in our city god changed the statistics in our nation and lord we just want to see our generation set come on is that all you got this is the king of the universe he's the light that shines in the darkness he's the light the shines in the darkness he's the light that's shone in your darkness and broke
