[Music] okay I'm Johnny from Johnny's finish motorcycle we're starting to clean out some storage spaces and I've had this 71 h1 for some time now as you can see it's a kind of a chopper a long front-end bar somebody painted the cylinders black and stuff I know a little bit of history about the bike we got it from a from one of our friends that owns a shop we rebuilt the crankshaft you before years ago they put the motor together but whatever reason it was a dead end project he didn't finish the bike up or whatever but I kind of want to go over some stuff on it and we're going to talk about maybe we're for sure going to get it running and maybe we're going to sell it as is maybe we're going to fix it up a little bit but we're definitely getting rid of that front end we're definitely getting rid of this so if we on this side of the bike here we're missing the door here for the battery we're missing the side cover we're missing the foot peg rubbers we're missing the sprocket cover to ship the shifter to stuff the part that goes on the shaft here missing an airbox missing the gas tank bolts we make some of this stuff so we're going to try to get or go on it's got this is kind of gooned here to get screws and said the normal foot pegs that come in there the seats are actually pretty nice I like the seat you come around the back the rear fender is pretty cool let's open up listen see where we're at this looks pretty cool that looks like someone painted the pan but does it look all rotted out usually the pans rot out on the left side because you have the side stand down and the water gets trapped in here and it's got nowhere to go so it usually they rot out right here now if I'm not mistaken I think it's missing a screen that goes over here I'm not positive I've got the oil gauge right here on the side that looks pretty good so got the basic gray cables we're missing this bolt right here I may have some decent paint to put on it obviously painted this black I got NGK caps late from what I can see this was a gray cable here at one time it still is kind of gray but they got extended cables on it these cables here the upper looks to be stock because we have the lettering here usually a Kawasaki cables if he come to the side it says five four oh one two - OH 54 not sure if that's the genuine cable or not but I think what they do is I use these and they use a different ends on them but all these cables are long that this cable here for the speedo is long the brake cable is long a little bit of goon marks right here it's like the meters are kind of sloppy we're going to try to fix this one meter put another meter on it I have all these bolts the handlebar bushings look kind of weak toute but it does have the original lever perch notice they come down at an angle like that and they have the star adjuster so this is pretty cool stuff got the original switches and stuff I think we have a bike here that has a lot of potential doesn't look like it's really ever been in a major accident I see some scratches here and the distributor cover this is cracked looks like they did some reinforcing on the center stand right here but overall a lot of potential a lot of potential so we're going to try to get it fired up today and hear it run and what we're going to talk about it a little bit later then okay go the progress here on the motorcycle get with the long cables that were on it this is one of our bars here in the back so we got rid that horrible bar actually I gave it to the guy it works for me and I'll get the original bolts here this is original from the factory this is all genuine Kawasaki hardware so we got that all set up we're going to we've got two set of stock fork tubes you're going to put on tomorrow we get rid of a bunch of hopeyou hardware we've got a foot peg on here instead of a stud they had and we also we're going to put a different fork tube assembly on it with new seals and what-have-you so we'll have more progress but and also we have one nerve speedometer for it as I showed you earlier the speedometer it's on it's kind of hokey the speedometer cable that I took off the motorcycle was broken so this will be the speedometer that we put on it I'm not checked it yet but it looks pretty good so I'm going to put that on it and then over here in the drain plug or the drain pan you can see the fork tubes we're kind of robbing a bunch of stuff because for whatever reason one of the fork springs was busted or cut or something so and this is going to be the lower legs that we use right here here's one of them the dampening rods are really this one's in good shape and we're going to put new whoa genuine Kawasaki fork seals and the rubbers don't appear to be too bad so going to reuse these on the early H ones like 69 through like 72 h1c this is where the fork seal goes seal goes in here then they get screwed on to here a pretty unique design now we're going to clean all this out of here we're going to chase these threads clean up all this little bit of rust I'm going to have you and we're going to clean up these bolts a little bit so when I was running together and hopefully we'll take it for a test drive tomorrow if it's not snowing too much as we proceed we're installing new steering bearings we've got that front end off we've got Jake here cleaning up the lower clamp and stuff they got overspray on everything when they're when you're painting a motorcycle so let's see this clamp here we're getting ready to well the clamp looks good so we're going to put this all back on however we have all brand new genuine Kawasaki balls and races for the forks so we're going to have that on there we got this is the virtual front fender or as far as we know it came off the bike pretty nice shape a little bit of which I went down at one time little crease here we might try to do a little bit of something with this right here this is a stainless steel now I go to the body parts had a black gas tank on it when I first guy I found it original paint body parts for it I think we're going to put this tank on we're going to clean it up a little bit we do have a little crease here from one looks like spent an accident or something but this this is not from this motorcycle that we're working on this is just a tank I hit lay around got a couple a couple of side covers here I don't know which one got put on for sure looks like they both came off a motorcycle one time maybe the Sun marble rash on the contrary so I don't know which we're going to use that we haven't well tank [Music] whole tank looks pretty good of course we're going to clean it out and stuff get a nice banjo bolt on it and everything gauge looks pretty good see the line that tells you how much oil you have is you put the oil on it the gauge comes up sit up nice decal right here okay as you saw it head when we first looked at the bike had extended Forks so we've come up with a couple cables we're going to and I've got a box of cables here that we've been saving all this time there's all nice little grid tables for each ones so if you look if you come over here you can see Jimmy's just put out race in here this is up we're steering race it's going to have all genuine Kawasaki balls put in it if you come down here this is the gonna be this this is a steering dampener and everything like that so we're going to replace all that we're going to replace we're going to service all that and it's got the low handlebars on it so we're going to try to restore this bike with all unrestored parts and we have a speedometer for it as we showed you earlier so we're looking pretty good here now we show you some more progress over later on this afternoon okay thanks a lot okay what a difference of cup bars makes we started out here these are the bolts that we make here to shop for the handlebars we then we detailed their race we put new bearings in it new races detailed the race shield here clean this all up a little bit and we installed a front brake cable seems to be working pretty good now and we put another speedo cable on it that we we have they back and now we have the fourth tubes on which looks pretty good now we're down to the stock clean so we're moving on to literature that we make these bolts here so we replace the bolts they're kind of cruddy so we'll have some more details on this and now we'll keep er going but it's the just to look at what we've done so far it takes a lot to to do one of these you got to have a lot of parts in stock if you're going to do it or have a lot of extras if you come to this side and you see how nice this all looks with the with the cables and their front brake here is nice and functional now we got adjusted a little bit but we've got the front brake cable or the speedo cable here we cleaned all the stuff up head lot black overspray on some of this stuff so we're almost done with the front end and put new fork seals in it of course new fork oil so this should be pretty good again on this 81 and had to cut a little bit of a pluck as you what was going on with it it's really hard to pull a clutch in and it was almost like the pressure plate here with stuck to the clutch so we took it off to kind of look at it seems to be okay it was stuck to here a little bit have a sit for a while they stick so I'm going to free that up we're also going to free this one gear up here that activates the push rod that pushes the clutch plate out to help the clutch work a little bit better so that's kind of where we're at right now so we can roll back together with some other clutch works like so we've still got to clean the carburetor yet sometimes I'd get it grown but other net that's why we get the clutch work again she fleed it in now and will feel nice and we're offering the clever ear now you see how bad the flow bowls are in it you know the gas really does a number on when it goes bad and it's sitting for years same way with this so we're going to clean all this up and try to bring it all back to life and then when we get it all done we'll show you another view what they look like when we're Dumpty here we are what the carburetors apart we just got them done cleaning them we have a ultrasonic tank that cleans this and gets all the crap out just to show you some things they're having it to being that the motorcycle is like 40 years old the if you go here you can see they were using this here as a float pin okay fortunately we had some new old stock Kawasaki float pins to replace those if you notice foreclose here these were actually needles they go on the slide so that was kind of a homemade thing kind of that we you don't everybody to kick out of that so here we have the float bowls he's got all the garbage out of them the gaskets seem like they're okay these are the needles they go in the needle and seat what happens here is they go inside here and it's kind of like a toilet this is closes the gas a flow coming in the carburetor right here so I'm pressing up and down on that right there spring-loaded see the float actually goes in like so and this is where the float pin comes in you've got a hole right here and then the pin goes through here and the pin actually goes through this body right here a lot of times people knock these pins out and I'll bust these tabs and it kind of ruins the carburetor but tell that's how that goes just like that and the float goes inside there like that so anyway we that's our set up there this all looks pretty good how I usually do is I like to since these are made out of brass sometimes they can get small holes in them special for they've been sitting where people will Bend demands they don't work I always like to take and put these in a jar gasoline to see if they're going to sink or not if they think that means we either got to solder them or replace them I'd rather replace them it's easier for me okay and these are it looks like someone has already put these up these are the plungers for the choke cable choke cable goes inside there like that and they go on the other side of the carburetors inside right here this is the further choke it cuts off the air going into them so this is the spring for it and these are the the cable goes through here it's always nice to have these boots on so someone's been in these carburetors before we get to it as we said before the motor has a brand new rebuilt crankshaft in it as well as it has new pistons and stuff in it okay so here's all these parts these are the pilot jets right here and and this is up you always have to go through and we hold these up to the light to see you know if we see through them or not you have to clean them and make sure you see the holes not only do you have a hole right here but you have these little holes right here it's really important all these holes have to be clear when you clean the carburetors on these H ones and here's the needle tower here this just gets pressed back into the into the carburetor right here then the main jet goes on the bottom it goes inside here these are slotted so and there's the gasket seem like they're okay the screws are okay these are the springs for the for the choke cable so this is all pretty cool these were going to die obviously pitch so if we go over here to the motorcycle when when Jenny put the clutch together you notice that these are clutch plates here where these are some kind of racing clutch pipe clutch plate springs there I don't recommend these it's hard to pull the clutch in and it's very hard to find neutral with Springs like that it's not something that I care for a whole lot so here is the shift linkage right here this goes on the motor and this goes into the the shifter right here the shifter runs on a shaft which is held on with the washer right here and then we have this clip now because we have a lot of Kawasaki parts we had all the stuff laying around genuine new old stock so you got to make sure that it's all the exact proper stuff we're not going to replate any of this we're because we kind of want to leave this motorcycle unrestored with original parts and we just so happen to had a brand new genuine Kawasaki pin right here still in a wrapper that connects the linkage to the shifter just like so this goes in the hole here that it has a clip and a washer in the backside so you've got all that we're starting to make some headway now you can see this wiring was kind of buggered here and they kind of wrap this together I'm putting on genuine new old stock Kawasaki lead notice this is enclosed like that well genuine was open like that and this goes on the positive terminal of the battery okay I've got a genuine Kawasaki fuse holder this is not the correct one but it is a genuine Kawasaki inline fuse holder you've got to have one of these on a bike like this it's better to blow a fuse and have the wiring catch on fire so anyway we have this is the this is the generic fuse holder that was on the bike and if you notice right here we have some speaker wire it looks like the old speakers years ago where we stock oh this is like speaker wire or something I don't know and the main reason why people did this was because they didn't put the proper battery in it so if you didn't put the proper battery in it maybe the terminals are switched you need the extra added length so this is usually the reason for this and of course because we have a lot of parts hanging around we found this door here for the battery which is pretty cool and then the fuse holder would go in here we had of the and this is a part that's kind of strange this is the same headlight rim as the a one the a seven the W one now we took this right here and put a little epoxy right here this was cracked this is a very very hard to find light so we put some epoxy right here and we also tightened up the screws right here so what when I we got it was just flap around here now it's a pretty nice solid mount so that's going to be pretty cool plus we it says Stanley here and Stanley was a genuine bulb producer I just can't go to the hardware store and buy these because of they've got the plug ins that go directly into the bulb and this is not replaceable bulb however the early ones were replaceable bulbs but 71 was not so we're kind of getting it all together here now I'm kind of a stickler about genuine stuff even though Jimmy got the cable working and stuff this is all really nice that works well I wanted a gray cable instead because all the other cables are gray so this is a really really really good used gray cable and I had in stock for years actually I had this on the shelf since 2012 so we're finally going to get around to using it and we've got the stock length kickstand on it now and it before we just remember hit the big extent of tubes so this is where we're at so far we'll definitely keep you posted here if you come around on the other side of the motorcycle I'm going to take apart this rubber here off this cable over here as you can see this is the distributor cover the cable goes through the distributor cover this is for the tachometer as you can see this is all hogged out this is a part of the tachometer cable so I have a good used one here that we're going to take off there as we said before we're trying to get an unrestored motorcycle so everything started to come along pretty good here together um hopefully we'll have the school in here like another day or so and I think we're just about done with it we have the reflectors that go here and we're going to make a good piece we're kind of on the fence about this is painted black and it should be the same color as the side covers here the the silver bear so we're going to look into that but first we have the motorcycle running and then if then we're going to kind of cater to our needs if we decide that we want to want to make that uniform also if we go over here as you can see I put an original paint tank on here because I like original paint the insides perfect but we have a dent right here but this was not the original tank this is a dent from a fork tube where something probably got in an accident and this little pin right here probably gave loose or something and the stopper came over and hit it so this is actually a fork tube dent right here from here but it did not come stock on this bike for this is the oil tank that I came up with original paint got some scratches on it and stuff but has original decal no broken tabs it's nice very nice and it had a little bit of debris inside so we're soaking it out with and we're cleaned up with that metal rescue and then here is the the right side car another bike can come with a side cover so we came up with this one and this is going to be the cover that we use this is really good shape the knob is cracked a little bit but I think I like that I'm just going to add the patina of the bike so okay we've made some more progress on this today get the battery in it we have genuine wire leads we've got a new inline fuse so that's looking pretty good we've got all the covers on it get the shifter set up that's all set up at the linkage the carbs are ready to go we've got a few clamps these are new old stock l-shaped rubber grommets that go over here that hold the side cover on like so okay we're ready for the door check out the old vintage spark plugs in the oldest wrapper here these are pretty good these are actually called surface gap plugs and you're going to get a kick out of this this is nice this is genuine for the Kawasaki the early triples and the two-strokes some of them if you look at it here instead of being like a rubber spark plug it'll have I shouldn't do this one from my kid way it's honor okay the plastic is on there but if you notice there's no gap they call it a surface gap this is on there I will show you a little better here we go okay surface gap normally they have the electrode and it goes over so that's a surface gap plug and it's really cool box I pry should keep that okay then you go over here we have the gray cable installed this is nice very nice we've got the star adjuster here that's nice everything is ready to go on this side we're empty we're test drive tomorrow if we come around this side of the bike you'll notice on the floor here that's the black tank that came off the bike there's a nice black paint job that was on here but I want to original paint you can see the blue right here so this bike used to be a blue bike originally so that's the original oil tank come over here we also side covers to put a new old stock screws on got some scratches here got a little crack here but it's all good for right now we're going to quote some more stuff and this is what the original paint oil tanks gonna look like on here very cool very cool this is going to be a nice unrestored everyday Rider this is the high beam indicator bulb socket assembly that goes inside here well actually goes inside the bucket but it comes off here so I we're looking pretty good site covers going to be nice so I set it touch got some scratches but it'll be cool get the gray cables everything sucked up so uh if it's not freezing rain or snowing outside tomorrow we're going to take it for a test drive and see how it does I hope you like our bike thank you for 71 h1 used to be a chopper but now it's pretty stock we're putting original paint on it and everything Jimmy's going to fire it up here and make sure it runs to the gears and everything runs on all three cylinders okay Jimmy fired up and adjustments to it we're fine okay we're continuing on h1 the bike appears run really really well so we decided that since the tires were so bad we're going to put some tires on it just to make it safe because they're out dry rodded so we're going to replace the rim band we always like replace these because see the spoke indentations here and starting to ride here a little bit move to probably go like this and probably break it so we're going to change that the tube we're going to replace because the fact that um it's got a little bit of rust on or on it plus we've got some creases in it also where it laid in a rim so now is the time to change the tube so we're going to change the tube on it and then here's a tire that came off of it not only was a tread all gone it is starting to dry rot all over the place and on the side this is an old Dunlop tire made in Great Britain actually but there's all the dry riding right here so we really think that was safe so what we're going to do now is we've got a pair called a dura dura tire okay we're going to put this duro tire on this is about the stock size the 418 and we're going to also the early bikes had rim locks on them these old rim locks are made by Dunlop actually years ago so we're going to put the Dunlop rim locks back in it takes two of them and it's like someone at one time had painted the inside of the rim which is a good idea we should do it on the Harley's long time ago but someone painted the inside to keep it from rusting so we're going to put this on and get it going the the brake surface was nice the bearings seem like they're perfect so we're going to leave well enough alone on that one now we're going back over to the motorcycle right go over a few things here on it we'll get the scene on it the side covers work we're starting to go through the stuff in the back here we have some things they had some paint on them and this stuff is getting kind of crusty but it kind of blends in with with the balance of the bike we're on the fence on doing stuff with that well we're going to this is the pin under the brake and stuff so we're going to someone shot this with black paint so we're going to we're going to take all the grease off and take all the paint off and then we're going to put it all together like that the chain adjuster that was on hit some paint on it and for whatever reason the back in the day they all wanted to paint the frame and stuff without removing body parts which is something I'm kind of allergic to but we're going to try to come up a set of baffles for it as you can see here it's missing the baffles and when you come over to here this is all intact pretty good so we're going to kind of let all this go we now have a nice left side cover the seats kind of gooned right here but we're going to leave that go because they look fun a restored original look and like I say these are the original body parts on it but the year what we're going to with and also over here we have a nice nice nice soft pliable error box Inlet there and then we have the air box over here that we found all these parts from different places and stuff that we had laying around so get the reflectors and if you listen real close you can hear the ignitions working get a buzz so uh if it if it stops renting out today and rain snow whatever we're going to take for right up and on the road you can take a look at it and thanks a lot alright it's finally done you think go for the test-drive can't say enough about what we did here this was a chopper as you saw before we had to start we put up different form tubes for seals all great cables all the adjusters we found some used reflectors some gas tank bolts got an air box on it now complete flip peg rubbers genuine baffles enter with the triangles in them see it's nice got a little a couple marks on the seat as you can see over here there's a few marks underneath the seat we found the guard Virginie cow the clips that hold it onto the frame bike get a bunch overspray on it we took care of a lot of stuff it's got all the original bolts as far as we know on the fender and stuff put all new screws we changed the clutch plate Springs all the oils changed carburetors are done I mean all in all this is pretty good bike here we built the carburetors oh we did the petcock nice nice nice nice bike let's see if we get her to start it's really cold out get here the buzzer I always like to try to start them on the side this is the choke here on a lot and more water to like to know your work from the you [Music] [Applause] anyway start writing on the center cylinder so we're gonna try to figure out why here in a second so you never know okay we put our spark plug in it start up again see what happened we're at the window when we had those part of the center stone I try to figure out why get up in the air see what's happening caught up with significant red figures out here and see where we're at I think we got our fixed now it turned out to be a spark plug cap so uh and a wire was loose down here under under under distributor cap rotor or the distributor cap itself okay it's fired up see what sounds like there's that buzzer No [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so what we noticed was uh I'm going to get the speedometer I'm trying to get rebuilt by a guy I'm not sure if he can do it or not but I'm sending it out to a guy to rebuild and then also we have another speedometer that we're putting on it's got a green face on it but it should be pretty cool and we believe this speedometer be a good one notice we move it and watch the needle that usually means that's a good sign okay we traced it down it's got a broken speedo cable so we're going to try to find a good inner or make you good cable or something but uh we'll keep track of the mileage as I ride it and like put a hundred miles on it for you so it's a wonderful day today so I'll be taking it for test-drive excuse to get the speedo buttoned up and hopefully by the end of the week I'll have a 100 miles on it for you when I rode the bike a little bit today I did a few things to it put a really cool mirror on it just like genuine these mirrors are but probably 40 years old I had them laying around for a long time I put a or I didn't mechanic put a speedometer on it's got a green face I drove it about 15 miles today bike runs strong it's super strong so we put a brand new cable on it it's a really nice cable made in Japan it's this black cable running down here through see what comes on to the side so the bank runs really well but uh however having some issues the clutch seems like it's going to kind of going away on it so we want to I'm going to I'm going to try to adjust the clutch tomorrow or if not then I want to probably see what this maybe adjust the spring tension enough with the spring tension whatever but anyway the clutch kind of going away on it so I'm glad I'm riding it getting some time on it the motor is warm now I just just pulled it in still so the way to start this now that it's warmed I like to kick it off to the side okay so I turn the key on you can hear the buzzer and if you can hear that or not this is the ignition buzzing anyway the buzzing we got mission so running as is [Applause] perfectly okay um so tomorrow when uh when a mechanic comes in I'm going to have a Jimmy working on this I'm going to have him like I say the clutch just coach is going away on I don't know if the deal is but anyway um if I have to change your plates I will whatever it takes you know I'm going to make it right for you that I'll I'll continue my quest to put a 100 miles on it for you I notice when I put gas in it today a filter up I would suggest putting high-test in it this gas tank is so gorgeous on the inside you can see the bottom of the tank gorgeous but don't expect any good gas mileage because you're not going to get it out of this thing I don't know what the mileage is but I filled it up tonight probably use a little bit of gas just in 15 miles so anyway the trip meter does not work on this but start out at 51 miles so I got about 15 miles on today so we're going to look into a little bit more and I'll keep you posted tomorrow if the weather is nice I'll finish putting on our miles on it for sure okay Rex how's it going hey almost at the 100 mile mark I've got about another about 25 miles ago and I'll be up to 100 miles exactly I didn't get to take it on the ride Sunday because I developed battery issues with it and we wound up having to change the generator rotor on this side so underneath here there's a generator rotor that way to put on it so I put it on our mirror on it got her mirror and while I was was riding it I noticed the sprocket was getting worn in the back so to show you the kind of guy I am I put a brand new versa rocket on it with replated studs new nuts and new locks rear brakes are good the bike I can't begin to tell you how good the bike runs it's it's it's strong very very strong I'm riding it 200 miles is the best thing I ever did for both of us you won't have any troubles with it now I don't think bikes warm right now just turn the key on you can hear the buzzer and Nik the bike the bike is so strong so imma ride it a little bit tomorrow it's been hard to ride it because this rain and the holidays and everything but uh I'd say that our day and he'll be ready I don't forecast any more troubles with that um its we've been doing well with it so far so um I just yeah I this pocket it was a lot it was a good enough for me so it wasn't good enough for you is kind of borderline there's a lot worse out there but anyway just going to show you where we're at with it right now with up and I'm going to write a little bit tomorrow long as it doesn't rain again and starts taking so long at the weather it's not been cooperating and what-have-you but you're going to love this motorcycle it's it's going to be a nice everyday Rider and pray write it to the end of eternity okay we'll talk to you later here we go good thing the dogs inside you chasing down road show you how to start this one is cold if we come to the petcock over here go inside right here I you can start it right here on prime never leave it on prime ever you gets running because of its on prime you're going to send fluid directly in the car bears at all times so this is prime right here okay and this is reserve ress reserved this is the pointer and this is on okay so we're going to start it on prime because it's obviously cold it's been sitting for about three days okay I got it on prime now I'm going to turn it turn the key on can you hear the buzzer that's the ignition I like to start it like this on the side give it a little bit of choke like this little joke about just so you can feel it working mic is cold [Music] tomorrow one writer Berkeley [Music] always uptown [Music]
