The legend himself
Great video mate! I watched this earlier today and agree with many of the things you say. I’m a relative noob to the Witcher “World” having picked up Witcher 3 at Christmas after watching the Netflix series (1 play through + DLC’s with “good endings”) and having just started reading the books (started with “The Last Wish” as many suggested and almost finished it), personally I’d like to see a new Witcher and follow their story (with some references to Geralt/Ciri etc) as I think this would allow for a fuller story to be able to be developed. I understand some peoples hesitance to this and would LOVE for it to be about Geralt but as you said, his story (depending on choices in Witcher 3) finished in a great place. It maybe nice to see some of the other characters show up e.g. some of the other surviving “lesser” characters though depending on you final choices in Witcher 3 a bit like they did at the beginning of Witcher 3 (from Witcher 2). Keep up the good work mate!
Gotta say, I can’t wait for Witcher 4 (or whatever they call it).
They dropped the ball with Cyberpunk 2077 in my opinion. I still enjoyed the story of that game, and I loved the big (main) side quests. All of that was amazing. But it was rather short compared to The Witcher 3. You can explore the entire map and have absolutely nothing left to do in like 50-60 hours of playtime assuming you’re good enough at the combat. I know they said it was so that more people would finish the game and do all the content, but making it shorter isn’t how you get people to keep paying attention to something. That won’t increase the amount of people finishing it and it will drive away fans of massive open world games who expect to put 200+ hours in, which is a good portion of CDPR’s fans. Plus the actual explorable area of the map is MUCH smaller than Witcher 3. There are a few megabuildings you can explore, but the overwhelming majority of the buildings in the game are still closed off to you and are basically just large square stones taking up map space. Combine that with this being a game set in a metropolitan city, and you end up with a much smaller actually explorable area. The Witcher 3’s maps felt like you could discover anything pretty much anywhere on the map even when there’s no question mark there, which made exploring every inch of it worth it. But in Cyberpunk 2077, it feels like there’s no point exploring anything that isn’t marked.
(Just to be clear, I still enjoyed the game, but it definitely didn’t live up to the hype and expectations they intentionally created around it. It has a chance to do so with the planned DLC, but even then they can’t undo the bugs and issues that plagued the game for a very long time after launch)
But if they’re making Witcher 4, I expect them to go back to the witcher formula for writing and storytelling. The dark and gritty world with massive areas to explore and a medieval setting. Hopefully they go back to horizontal exploration over supposed vertical exploration. (If they want to do vertical exploration, could go the Elden Ring route and use underground dungeons, since those don’t clutter the above-ground map like massive, unenterable skyscrapers do.)
The Witcher 3 was their crowning achievement in my eyes. Still my favorite game of all time. I don’t expect anything that comes afterwards to top it. But if they make something slightly better than CP2077 in the world of the Witcher, I’ll still be incredibly happy with it.
Love watching your videos. Couldn't agree with you more about Ciri. I said this in another thread, and I said this in your YouTube comments., but it's either all or nothing with me. I either want another game with Geralt as the main character, OR a whole new game with a whole new set of cast and characters. Have it set either hundreds of years in the past or hundreds of years in the future.
Liked your mention of Dragon Age Origins too. One of the few games I hold as high as witcher 3. Thanks for your videos. Keep them coming.
