hi everybody i'm eric from wheels to wonder and in this video i want to tell you everything about my seven must-have items for bicycle touring and bike packing keep in mind this is my opinion and these are not endorsements for the products also we are not sponsored so all the products are bought with our own money throughout the video i'm gonna throw in some bonus tips with each item as for you to get a little bit more out of the video hopefully so without any further ado let's get into it with number one first up is the buff or the neck tube it's one of these multi-functional pieces of garment i tend to wear most of the time i always seem to find a purpose for it it's really lightweight and for the next tour instead of one i'm planning on bringing two i'll show you some different styles but it's one of these pieces you can really get creative with to find your own specific purpose we used it a lot in really dusty environments to keep our lungs protected a bit or when the sun was really burning down to protect our skin especially the nose ears and lips the beanie is also a style i use sometimes just doubled up the garment and wrap it around your head for some extra warmth a headband or a sweatband pretty handy when my hair gets a little bit longer also to get my hair out my face one of my favorite uses is to pull the headband down and then you have an instant sleeping mask works really well and i use it all the time when i'm on tour last step when it's really warm you can make it moist with some water to get the benefits of evaporative cooling number two sunglasses of course sunglasses are very important to protect your eyes from the sun but also from debris and insects my sunglasses of choice are the tifosi veloce phototec brown the lenses are photochromatic so when the sunlight is more intense the lens gets darker to protect your eyes a little bit better this is also great for overcast moments so then the lens gets a little bit more transparent what makes it easier to see your surroundings it comes with this nice soft case and besides my sunglasses i also store my earbuds in there also a nice cleaning cloth is included which doubles up as a small pouch to put your sunglasses in for a more minimalistic setup a nice feature is that the lenses are interchangeable that way you can use different types of lenses and only use one frame recently i replaced my old bear because the lenses really got scratched up from all the dust and the debris out on the road for two years it's quite normal for these polycarbonate lenses but they become really hazy and it makes you miss out on a clear experience number three on my must-have items list is a phone holder the phone is used for navigation also to listen to music and podcasts and we also use it to control our drone the quad lock bike kit is a very sturdy system consisting of a telephone case and also a bike mount you can place on different parts of your bike it needs a little bit of getting used to but when you get the hang of it it's really easy and it snaps into place with a satisfying click of course navigation that's the main purpose of use the telephone is out in front of you when you need some directions you can use the app of your choice a great thing here is when you're flying a drone you can put it in landscape mode and then attach your remote control which is great when you're using the automatic flying mouse of your drone or what i do is use rubber bands to get joysticks into a specific position to kind of tweak my own flying program number four is also one of these unmissable items and that is a world adapter for charging all kinds of electronic devices this one is made by scross and has two really nice usb ports built in an extra tip i would like to give is this small power strip which really makes it convenient to charge all kinds of different devices that have to be plugged in into a main power socket this way you for example can simultaneously charge your power bank also your laptop maybe your drone or your camera batteries or what have you number five of course a headlamp very important multifunctional item for cycling and camping safety reasons on the bike so you can be seen when it's dark and see the road out in front of you and to do stuff around camp when it's dark so we want to give you an example of our evolution with lights this is mouty's black diamond headlamp in a clumsy moment of mine i stepped on it and it broke really easily so the surge was on for a more durable lamp maori also carried this through night torch it's really powerful at 1100 lumens with all kinds of different settings including a strobe mode which disorientates possible intruders so it was kind of a safety feature that was nice for her to have for the headlamp 2.0 she landed on this blue band h1 it's kind of like the black diamond and the true knight rolled up in one it seems to be really durable made of aluminium and a tough plastic that seems to be unbreakable it features the same powerful 1100 domains light just like true knight with all kind of different modes including the strobe mode mouth really likes it also has a red light it's really handy when you want to read at night or just have to go outside of the tent and not to shine a pretty bright light it's waterproof and also usb rechargeable number six on my list of must-have items is my toilet slash fire kit when you're out cycling then sooner or later you will have to go for number two and then this is really handy to have around i use this ordly dry bag obviously to keep all the stuff inside away from moisture i really like that it has a bright color so it stands out in nature i like to organize my paper so it's ready for one go and i like to organize the rest in this plastic bag to keep everything organized i am a big proponent of leaf node trace so i always burn my toilet paper with this small bic lighter for hygiene i use this small bottle of disinfectant it comes with an integrated pump the pump makes it easy to get the correct dose i need for washing my hands when it's time for a refill i refill it with an alcohol based sanitizer so it aids in fire making and on the fire making side of things for safety reasons of course you might need a fire if you need a fire quick or it's wet outside these pads are ideal i made them with cotton makeup pads and then dipped them in a mix of melted old candles and five percent of paraffin oil as not to clog up the cotton so it can act like a wick when you light it they burn for about five minutes so it gives you plenty of time to start a fire and as backup you have the alcohol sanitizer and the toilet paper last up of course very important the bicycle toolkit this is an overview of all the essential items and stay tuned to this channel because i will be making a video about the full expedition tool repair and maintenance setup i will be comparing my old and heavy setup to a new and lightweight and fully functional kit with some special new tools i'm really excited about our pump of choice is the road morph by toe peak this is an excellent floor pump you can open the tab to put your foot on it makes it really convenient it's also relatively compact and lightweight we do need a little adapter for the nozzle because this only adapts to a straighter valve this small bag holds all our little tools and bits and bobs organized in one place a hex key multi-tool is an absolutely must-have this one is very basic and i will be upgrading this one to a more multifunctional tool so i can leave other bigger tools at home and save some weight that way some simple metal tire levers these are not that great and i will be changing these out for a multifunctional pair i can't wait to show you guys in a small plastic bag i keep my patch and glue kit i laid it out inside for you because the wind was blowing it all over the place first up is this little plastic bag where everything is kept in then a piece of sanding paper next up an outer tire patch when you have a tear in your tire then we have an assortment of all sizes of patches a tube of rubber cement glue and some self-adhesive patches for a quick fix this is a slender loop bottle i found it stows away really easily and i fill it up when it needs to be we like to use a dry loop this really helps to keep the chain clean and we only use one drop on the chain link pivot as not to attract more dirt from a greasy chain a spare inner tube is really handy for a quick fix or to replace an old one with a lot of holes and wear on it hey welcome back to me and the world map here behind me i hope you learned something i hope you got something out of this video if you have any questions please leave them down in the comments below and i
