to all the beginners out there what a wonderful time it is to be in your shoes right now never has the blender community been growing this fast nor has there been this much content available for beginners to absorb which is why I want to give a head start to those of you who are just beginning your adventures in blender by talking about seven key mistakes that blender beginners make will kick things off with number one rendering resolutions with the ever-increasing resolutions of screens on TVs monitors and smartphones it's no wonder that people are beginning to correlate image quality with resolution as a result of this I've seen so many beginner renders that rendered at 4k or even 8k that don't even need to be remotely close to that resolution so if not 4k then what resolution should we be rendering at it all comes down to the platform that your artwork is going to be displayed on for example if you're planning on posting your image on Instagram there's no reason that you should have to render with a width of more than 1500 pixels this is because the devices you're sharing the images to don't have a high enough screen resolution to actually display the extra detail so a 4k render or even a 2k render would be overkill in this scenario numero dos let's talk about denoising I like denoising just as much as the next person it's a great way to get rid of extra noise in your renders but it's also extremely easy to abuse why would you render something that takes three hours to render when you could do it in ten minutes with denoising from a time management perspective it doesn't seem to make any sense but when you compare the quality of a low sample D noised image to a high sample image you can really see the difference in quality it's for that reason that I usually don't advocate using DD noiser especially on low sampled renders instead I advise people to learn how to optimize their renders that way they don't take nearly as long and they won't show any painful ray tracing artifacts like fireflies but of course there are always those renders that will take forever no matter what you do and in those cases I always advise people to just start the render before they go to bed at night and then in the morning that wake up to a nice clean finished render number three receiving critiques properly I'm not gonna lie I still have trouble swallowing critiques more often than I'd like to admit and at least personally when I find something hard to swallow I also find it very easy to ignore and completely dismiss that mentality is probably the least ideal mentality you could have when receiving a critique so what I like to do when I receive a critique is to view their critique as nothing but advice advice that I can choose to accept or decline I mean after all it's up to me I decide what goes into my work and I find that keeping that advice driven mentality is a great way for me to not only leverage the benefits of receiving a critique but also to help me keep my head straight and my chin up while I'm working zero one zero zero or four I'm not a robot I promise I don't think a lot of beginners recognize how convenient and useful it is to actually name your objects as you create them it does seem like a little bit of a burden especially if you're not used to doing it but as your scenes and 3d models become more and more complicated it's really important that you start naming them that way you can easily find them so it's best to get into the habit early that way you aren't kicking yourself in the butt later when you can't find cube 137 continuing the number train we've got number five expecting too much from computer hardware sure companies can advertise real time ray tracing or the power of a seven nanometer GPU but in reality it comes down to a 50/50 balance between the skill of the person actually creating something and the computer hardware so if you're currently or plan to be in the market for buying computer hardware make sure you first reassess the situation you're in and determine whether or not you really need it because if you don't that few hundred dollars you just spent on a new graphics card might not even be worth it number six properly managing project files this one might seem a little bit weird because it doesn't immediately impact you but it can really impact you further down the line so here's what I mean by properly managing your project files you know how when you're working on a blender project and you start downloading images from the internet or pulling models from a random site or even importing materials into your blender project well all those files that you're working with are your project files and it's really important that you keep track of them otherwise way down the road when you come back to visit your project a lot of things are going to be missing in fact all the way up until early 2017 if you look through my projects folder I'd say about 90% of my projects up until that point for missing files so do yourself a favor and start managing your files correctly from the beginning every single time you start a new project to make a folder for it make a folder for your textures for your models that you import anything that's external and you bring into blender put it in that folder otherwise it's gonna come back and bite you in the butt later finally we have number 7 sticking with it call it cliche or unimportant but in my mind this is one of the biggest mistakes that blender beginners make is they don't stick with it I get it learning a software like blender is not that easy it takes a lot of time and it's anything but convenient but if it's something that you are truly and undoubtedly passionate about leverage that passion to make yourself the greatest that you can possibly be that's what I do and that's how I ended up here if you've made it this far I just want to say thanks for watching this video and if you're new to the blender community I want to extend my warmest welcomes to one of the greatest online communities that's out there if you're new to this channel don't forget to hit that subscribe button over there and also
