#693 Skid Steers and Failed Inspection The Life of an Owner Operator Flatbed Truck Driver

I try to find a quiet spot and we got airplanes flying over we got guy started pulled in started his Apu but I tried to find a quiet spot to do this [Music] but [Music] we're uh over here getting loaded see them poles look in the mirror see them poles holes had to pull through and then look in the mirror on that side got to pull through the dock I did hit my mirror on the post there but luckily I didn't bend [Music] anything [Music] he [Music] all right good morning morning it is Wednesday morning we loaded our little skid steers Monday morning and then yesterday we delivered two over in Michigan and now we're going to deliver our last one down in Indiana we're just North of Indianapolis uh I'm in this big rest area and I pulled in here there was nobody parked around me I don't know if you can look in the mirror it's sure enough this guy with this noisy re pulled in but we'll go out take look I got one left on the trailer we'll go out and take a look at it all right so so I pulled in and there was nobody parked here of course the truck Park right next to me oh it's been a busy couple of days but this is what we loaded we loaded three of these little things right here you can see how I got that secured down on our dorsy trailer went through the hole right there and then I got a strap up over the uh the bucket right there piece of carpet um we're going to stop and wash the truck and trailer before uh we get to Louisville give me a look down here at the rest area so at night this place fills up and the trucks park behind the trucks there so when I pulled in there was a whole row of them park there see right there but so we'll walk down this side here all that mud on the truck oh but it's riding good they weigh about 10 11,000 lbs a piece so the plan for today is uh we're about an hour north of Indianapolis we're going to stop at the Blue Beacon Truck Wash in Indianapolis and uh get the truck washed cuz when we deliver this next little when we deliver this next little stit steer we're going to go to we're going to go to Louisville and get our truck inspected and I like to come to Louisville with the clean truck especially for inspection H they're finishing up the truck wash I went in there to pay the bill this truck's got just like I said it got Air Windows it also has air door locks and Bailey must have got excited and uh hit the uh the switch cuz she locked me out all right we made it over here to Louisville we delivered our last little skid steer uh tomorrow we're going to take the truck over to get inspection I had a uh couple clearance lights up on the top there I just they had some loose screws they're doing good now and then you know lights are nice but man they take a lot of Maintenance having all these lights and then I had a b a burnt out one here I want to get these things off the truck see how it's broken right there I want to get that off the truck the problem is you see those lock nuts right there they're all there's back in there if you I don't know if you can see it back in there but yeah I really want to get these off the truck they're pain in the butt so checked all the lights I checked my reverse lights the way I check my reverse lights is uh I'll uh I put the my phone I took my phone and propped it up and then uh checked my reverse lights that way videotaped tires look pretty good got a little bit of a pattern in them but still got plenty PL of chunky rubber left so [Music] but gu's backing in over here it's a full house over here at merer today but we'll call it quits for the day end it um tomorrow morning we're going to run over over and get our inspection done and hopefully there's no problems all right good morning we went through truck inspection Yer or this morning earlier we got a couple issues we got to take care of so this is the ABS control valve right here and it is leaking air under the bottom when uh I apply the brakes I try to find a quiet spot and we got airplanes flying over my God guy started pulled in started his Apu but I tried to find a quiet spot to do this but we got to replace that whole thing it's one piece uh I was hoping that you could just buy this part right here but you got to get the whole part the whole piece here so that thing right here is that right there so it's going to sit like that they should just be a matter of uh taking hoses off putting hoses on we're also going to replace the shocks so if you look in there you can see the shock is leaking right there that one's leaking so we got genuine pack car parts um Peter Built down at uh here in Louisville gets Mercer a discount so uh we get a merer discount on Parts the uh this little valve thing was $560 rear shocks are $84 front shocks are $76 so we're going to get dirty today hopefully the weather hold out I'm going to get my overalls on and uh we'll start digging into that all right I wanted to I forgot to point out so I slid my fifth wheel all the way forward so the fifth wheel slides on this track right here so I fif my fifth wheel forward so I can get to this we got all the hoses disconnected loosen up what I'm going to do now is get my camera my phone and I'm going to take a picture of the orientation of all of these fittings right here because I'm going to take these fittings off while this piece is still mounted on here that way I have something to uh pull against but uh I I already took one picture before I started but I'm going to take another picture make sure I get all of these orientation right for these fitting all right we got all the fittings off so all the fittings are out they still got some power these are for the ABS sensors so the next step is I'm going to these bolts right here are holding the unit on there so I'm going to take these bolts off and uh should be able to get the unit off we got the unit off so it mounts to the mounts like that so next thing is we're going to get these electrical connections off of here and then hook the electrical connections up onto the new one and then Bolt the new one on and then we'll go ahead and put all the fittings on all right we got the new unit on we got if you can see up under there got the electrical connections on there so the next step is we're going to put these fittings back in there we're going to refer to our piture that we took put our fittings on hook the lines up and then clean this mess up and we should be done all right got the new one on everything's cleaned up zip tied here's the old one so the problem with the old one it sat like this was it was leaking out of the bottom here when you apply the brakes similar to the quick release valve that we did on the white truck which would be somewhere up in here so that's done that was the easy part now we got to do the shocks so that might be a little bit harder but we'll go get the big impact and uh see if we can start knocking them out all right those two came out pretty easy so I put some white lithium grease on the thing there some antise and then uh where's the new one here's the new shock here genu wine pack car part so that should be rid really good that's peterbill Cadillac style right there all right we were doing pretty good working on the truck then I ran into a problem the old shock had uh 5/8 course log nut the new shock needs a 5/8 fine thread lock nut and I went all over Louisville looking for him I couldn't find nothing so I went back to the dealer and they gave me the right the right nuts it didn't charge me either so that was a pretty good deal other issue it was raining it pouring down rain or it was earlier so everything's wet all my tools are wet I'm wet everything's wet I uh was hoping to have this done today when we go through inspection if uh they find something wrong they put you out of service meaning you can't book any loads or anything so I was hoping to be done today so I could get back on the board look for a load but it looks like it's starting to rain again it look looks like uh I'll have to finish this in the morning and uh go back on the board tomorrow on a Friday hopefully I can find something if not we'll be camping out in Merc town over the weekend so but yeah this was pretty frustrating I got two on I rigged uh I should say rigged I bought a a 5/8 fine thread nut but need a lock nut on top of them shocks so if it quits raining if it quits raining later then I'll go out and finish it work on it if not we'll do it tomorrow
