631 - My Hunt for a Shiny Groudon Costume in Pokemon Battle Revolution (16 shinies!)

foreign [Music] [Applause] Battle Revolution for the Wii there lies hidden one of the most intense shiny hunts in the entire Pokemon series and it's not even for a Pokemon this is the story of my hunt for a shiny costume in the single player campaign mode of Battle Revolution you'll encounter six Coliseum leaders who were dressed up like Pokemon and if you challenge them in the post game under the level 50 all rule set there's a small chance they'll be wearing the shiny variant of that costume and for over 10 years the only documentation of this even being possible was within the game's guidebook with no documented instances on the internet of anyone ever running into one of these shiny costumes back in 2017 I became deeply fascinated with this hunt and I had to get to the bottom of the mystery that had remained for over a decade so I scoured the internet searching for even just one photo of someone with one of these costumes in game but my search turned up pretty fruitless only finding a few Japanese sites that claim that the odds of finding these shiny costumes were one in 8192 a really cool cheat code called reverse phycology and a few records of other Brave shiny Hunters who once set out on this hunt only to find an uncatchable shiny along the way and not the outfit and then abandoned the hunt since any Pokemon you fight in this game also has a chance of being shiny so knowing not much else I grabbed my Wii remote and I ventured into the unknown setting out towards magma Coliseum where I hoped to hunt for the shiny Groudon costume surrounded by magma a superheated battle is about to begin [Music] doing even just a single encounter with any of these costumes is not going to be a simple and quick thing no matter what costume you're hunting you're going to have to battle some other trainers first before you get to see the leader's costume in magma Coliseum you fight five other trainers in a simulated round robin and if you're the highest scorer at the end of it you get to battle the leader Terrell wearing the ground on costume using a basic Latios and Metagross from my diamond version I was able to pretty consistently easily reach tarot every single time it takes about 15 minutes per reset to reach him and once you do reach him it's imperative that unless he's wearing the shiny costume you do not win because obviously I don't want to just see this costume I want to be able to wear it and the first time you beat a Coliseum leader in the level 50 all rule set you get to keep their costume and according to this little tidbit in the strategy guide if you already own the normal version of the outfit you'll be forever locked out of getting the shiny version of it on your file it's a bit of a strange rule but it actually works out in our favor here because it allows us to continuously stay at rank 1 where we fight against the weakest set of Pokemon which trust me is a lot better than the Pokemon that appear at the higher ranks I started facing my first dilemma of this hunt when I started forfeiting to Terrell as the game asked me a question I didn't know the answer to continue so the game has a system in place where if you manage to beat a trainer without having any of your three Pokemon faint you gain what's called a perfect point which allows you to rematch a trainer that you lose to and in this case since there are five trainers in magma Coliseum we can rematch Terrell up to five times if we manage to win without having a Pokemon faint but I couldn't help but wonder if these rematches actually re-rolled for the costume's shininess they could either be a tremendous time save or a tremendous waste of time every reset I started out doing them anyway hoping that it would be a time save and on August 31st 2017 I would phase for the first time on this hunt and find an uncatchable shiny that would at least confirm one thing about the rematches with Terrell his Pokemon get generated differently every rematch whoa is that does that guy seriously have a shiny bag on before his costume is actually shiny it really does what the heck man dang dude and there's an interesting extra factor to these uncatchables too since we're only selecting three Pokemon out of our team the opponent is doing so as well so there's a chance we might not even see it in battle like this Bagon which never got sent out man he didn't even use it man I cannot believe though I got him to own a Shiny Pokemon before I got him to wear a shiny outfit but I should have believed it if I sat down and did the math assuming that the odds of the alpha being shiny are the same as a Pokemon being shiny on the normal run of the Coliseum with no rematches you're going to see at least 30 Pokemon from the five trainers beforehand plus the six from the Colosseum leader Terrell and the one costume check to that and that's an expected average of 37 phases for the hunt but in the best case scenario that we're doing rematches and the costume is re-rolled every time we end up with a higher ratio of costumes to Pokemon leaving us with only 12 expected phases but in the scary worst case scenario that the outfit might not get re-rolled on the rematches but his Pokemon do we have a nasty 67 expected average phases none of these numbers even the best case scenarios sound particularly enticing to me and the amount of hunting that I did over the next two years definitely goes to show that with me not putting in enough time to find a shiny until August of 2019 when I got motivated by seeing a few others start this hunt here's what I found second phase which might be the most Delayed Reaction out of all of them it is in his leader time he is wearing a red Groudon costume he has shiny Bagon again [Music] yeah uncatchable shiny Bagon yeah let's see if he sends it out what the heck dude the second uncatchable shiny I found in this game has been on this exact same trainer with this exact same Pokemon [Music] this is unreal [Music] I hope he sends it out he did shiny uncatchable Bagon the second one unreal I'm destroying it with Ice Beam right now good night over the next few months there was even more Buzz about these costume hunts as old school French shiny Hunter maitre Armand began to stream his hunt for this again inspiring many to pick it up including Hunter Falco who would make a groundbreaking discovery on November 4th 2019 Falco was the first person to ever find and record footage of the costume being real but there would be a catch to this because of what turned out to be a translation error in the French strategy guide for the game stating that you need to have the normal costume in order to obtain the shiny costume since Falco already had the normal costume upon winning this battle with the shiny costume he was not able to keep it this Groudon costume was also found on the first match of the Coliseum vs Terrell so it didn't confirm or deny anything about rematches so the search for keeping a shiny costume continued but Falco instilled plenty of wisdom and motivation in all of us with a massive paste bin of strategies more information about the hunt and most importantly proof that the crazy thing we were chasing after is real in the first place at that time though we were two weeks away from sword and shield so I only found one more Untouchable before those games released [Music] is that a shiny carnivine oh my gosh that is that's my this is my third uncatchable looking for this shiny costume there's a shiny carnivine check it out then throughout the next year I would have a lot of luck but none of it would be in Battle Revolution and Professor tops would start his hunt and over the course of this he'd provide me with a lot of interesting research and motivation to keep this going after an incredibly long drought I would finally end the next phase in January of 2021 the same night that I found the first shiny for my shield badge Quest and the shiny Reggie Rock that I failed in a pathetic manner that's that's a shiny torko oh wow that's my first uncatchable shiny and Battle Revolution and probably like over a year I think November 2019 was the last time I found one oh he didn't send it out well on to the next uncatchable or maybe the costume shiny torko again on the leader are you kidding me oh man yes yes the shiny torque hole so I consider this next Battle Revolution shiny to be a necessary DeTour for the future my main save file already had three regular costumes on it Kyogre Pachirisu and electivire meaning that if somewhere down the road I wanted to have all six shiny costumes on one save file I couldn't I would forever be stuck with the shiny Groudon costume but a normal electivire costume so I decided to start a new save file and take on a pretty unique hunt that I had only recently learned about in Battle Revolution a hunt for a shiny on the starting rental pass at the start of every save file you're given a selection of two rental passes to choose from with 12 Pokemon on it and any of these Pokemon can be shiny so before I started this new save file I had to start with a shiny on my pass you have to pay really close attention to the portraits on a couple of these shinies like Staravia so I kept a little guide handy at the bottom of the screen for me and on February 13 2021 this happened [Music] shiny goodbye dude and Battle Revolution on the rental pass I was watching a one piece movie uh the cursed holy sword with my friend Nick beast mode gaming when uh I found this shiny Gabite after 1264 soft resets that's uh 1264 by 12 which is uh 15 168 so that's kind of a lot then on this new file I started hunting for the Groudon costume again oh shiny uncatchable Altaria in Battle Revolution and it doesn't look like he sent it out so do not get to see it Sparkle but at least I got to see the shiny portrait on to the next part of this until the costume shines then 2022 was the biggest year ever for Battle Revolution costume hunting starting with Professor tops finding and keeping the shiny Groudon costume in May and he's working on a big video for that be sure to watch it when it comes out it goes into more depth on certain mechanics that I've kind of brushed over in this video tops's Groudon was also found on a perfect Point rematch meaning that at least in magma Coliseum perfect Point rematch shiny costumes were possible but in other coliseums things seem to be a little bit different Noah Kyogre a Japanese shiny Hunter kind of appeared out of nowhere with the shiny Kyogre costume and then only two months later the Pachirisu costume but Noah did a very very bold move with this Pachirisu costume and intentionally forfeited the battle and used a perfect Point rematch the pacharisu costume remained shiny on the next attempt and that seems to match up with how her Pokemon don't seem to change between rematches but Terrell's Pokemon in magma Coliseum do making the Groudon and electivire hunts way more convenient to do than any of the others since you can utilize these rematches then in August Graham Ginger hunted for the shiny Groudon costume and got it and Noah Kyogre got their third shiny costume with the Groudon in late September we had gone from no one having a costume to there being five instances of people keeping the costume out in the world and here's how I became the sixth [Music] that's a shiny Bagon that is a shiny Bagon all right I this is my third uncatchable Bagon in this game yeah shiny Bagon he actually sent it out [Applause] oh that's a shiny camera oh that is a shiny camera dude I'm in the middle of this Gauntlet right now with this egg that finally got toxic on audio it's a disobedient egg and shiny freaking camera up in Battle Revolution on Terrell let's see if he sends it out in battle here it's down [Music] camera is sent out oh he set it out let's go shiny Gibble shiny Gibble oh I spotted that out of the corner of my eye right away dude Terrell's going crazy with these shinies lately this is nuts let's see if uh he sends it out into battle or not no Gibble send out um and there is a car pulling out of an apartment complex and the girl that was pulling out that's a shiny done sparse uncatchable shiny done Sparks I'll talk about getting hit by a car later let's check out Ted's shiny Dunsparce here and Battle Revolution that's my first uncatchable in a while all right fingers crossed for Ted he says it out nice another shiny done sparse on Ted again Ted what are you doing dude what's up with the done sparses man this is uh I actually used a counter this time 674 costume resets after Ted's last done sparse Man Ted Ted what are you doing man not sent out [Applause] [Music] oh that's a shiny gimbal another shiny Gibble 596 after the last dun sparse watching the new Sakurai video about Kirby let's see if he sends it out dude it's down and so are potentially our chances of seeing this Gible unless it gets sent out right now that is an Altaria well well good night Gibble so on my stream I have a tradition of listening to the Kidz Bop version of Bring Me to Life by Evanescence at the end of every stream and I call it the anthem and this next shiny was an Anthem shiny that happened during that song Anthem time spent another good night of streaming why won't pocket monster go Sparkle that's what I'm saying or our pocket guy named Terrell dressed up as Groudon put on different clothes [Music] home that's a shiny gimbal Anthem shiny [Music] huge that that might be the first anthem shiny I've ever found that is a certified mug moment right at the chorus uncatchable shiny Gibble phase 13 for the uh the Groudon costume now yeah drought and Groudon they do go hand in hand there's the Gibble he set it out this next phase happened during a Nintendo Direct and I didn't realize my microphone wasn't plugged in this was my fourth Bagon though so it wasn't really all that exciting but it's kind of crazy how many things I found on Terrell's team instead of the trainers that came before him on the night of October 4th while I was streaming I began the Fateful final set of battles of my magma Coliseum Journey it was my final set of battles for the night and little did I know it would be the final set of battles for the entire hunt I once again was about to play the anthem Kidz Bop Bring Me to Life which would get the reaction muted on Twitch thankfully I have the local recording here I'm still not like that deep into the lore of it honestly I've the the most of that I've gone into with Toho a lot of the time is listening to the music I honestly haven't even played one of the games yet [Music] music goes crazy though I love the the zoom pits the trumpets I've played as a few of the characters and like Rivals of ether someone poured them in as like fighting characters and it's really fun to play as them they're all busted I think I played mostly like romelia start with seven good to know yeah there's so many of them can't wake up Wake Me Up Inside this is just the normal version of the song for me now I don't even like crack like a goofy smile listening to it anymore it's just it's just music to me now it's just like this is the song that plays at the industry can I Twitchy zero I'm at 910 costume seen now since uh Bagon I'm shaking right now y'all tackle this Gibble knows freaking tackle [Music] Bunny not thank you for the 10 gift Subs during this so crazy y'all I cannot believe this right now [Music] oh my gosh [Applause] well both coiners still have a chance to just you sir good we outspeed the torkoal I cannot believe us right now man I am in disbelief utter disbelief right now that this is happening this is I'm sorry if I'm not paying attention to chat at all I'm just [Applause] I cannot believe this man [Applause] Hound Doom is the final one raging in the college policy I wonder how this is going oh it's plotting something really nasty special attack robes and surf we win we win I was worried for a second that that things would not work out so for some reason like we would actually lose the battle dude I cannot believe the police crowd on command set and match total victory the blue corner all right my camera's about to run out of space but I'm of course also local recording the stream right now clear this Hunt is over now man all right look at this we got some coffee we got some Pokey coupons [Music] the ground on costume we got it I'm immediately we're going over to save it is Saving Time and then we're gonna do a little showcase where we put this on [Applause] [Music] [Applause] button saying no shiny tonight all right and there we go my camera just ran out of space perfect timing [Music] all right let's let's try this on man all right say goodbye to this boring outfit yeah we're putting on the Groudon outfit oh man dude it looks so good I cannot believe this man look at that man so insane all right I'm gonna send out my spear to him I don't have a shiny Groudon to send out maybe I should do that sometime in the future and then we're going to check the final um Omega Ruby Alpha Sapphire of the night thank you sleeper I cannot believe I actually have this now look how cool that is oh my gosh it took 15 phases look at that dude I'll never get over this I just gotta load up Battle Revolution just to stare at that outfit dude and here's my costume on the capture card since I was just filming it when I found it I wish I had an accurate count of the number of costumes I saw in the process of hunting this but I didn't really start counting until 2022 when I was on phase 10. to give you a little estimate in the time that it took me to find the last five shinies of this hunt leading up to the costume I saw 5 000 Groudon outfits so I'd say I almost definitely went over odds on this hunt if the odds of it happening are one in 81.92 and after doing a deep dive through my Wii's Message Board looking at the time that I spent playing Battle Revolution this whole hunt took me about 575 hours that all being said I kind of want to go for another one someday now that I have one and now that I know that it's real there's still a lot of mysteries to uncover and not only this game but Pokemon in general and I'm glad we're starting to get to the bottom of the mystery of these costumes now thanks so much for watching and I will see you next time [Music]
