Welcome (back) to our channel! We're excited to try omakase for the first time in Tokyo! 2 restaurants, 2 price points. Which one will we like more? Let's go! This is Manten Sushi located in Marunouchi It is in the basement of a shopping and office complex So you may hear noise from people walking around outside We made a reservation about a month in advance Our meal starts with some shellfish soup Shiroebi (white shrimp) Soft and creamy Seaweed Quite slimy Amberjack Very umami with a refreshing tang from the yuzu Awabi (abalone) Tender with a nice chew Also comes with the intestines Chawanmushi (steamed egg custard) with king crab Egg was perfectly steamed with a soft and smooth texture The king crab adds a light sweetness Yellowtail from Hokkaido Soft tofu Creamy but also had a slightly weird aftertaste Tai (snapper) Fatty tuna Squid A bit on the salty side It's fun to watch the chef prepare the food in front of you Saba (mackerel) from Aomori The best piece so far, torching brings out the umami and smoky flavor Ikura (salmon roe) rice There were a variety of textures that paired well with the slightly chewy rice Popping from the ikura and crunch from some kind of vegetable? We started to feel full and couldn't keep up with the pace of the food Toro (tuna) Enoki mushroom Ankimo (monkfish liver) Very creamy and a little briny Mentaiko (cod roe) Very salty Uni (sea urchin) A little briny and not as sweet as we'd like Clam miso soup Lots of cute little clams Tuna hand roll Tuna was very fatty and soft, contrasted by the crunchy and refreshing onions Anago (saltwater eel) Tamagoyaki (egg omelet) Light and sweet Cucumber hand roll This is Sushi Ya in Ginza The chef grated some fresh wasabi Chawanmushi (steamed egg custard) with shirako Shirako is the milt, or sperm sacs, of fish Very creamy Hirame (flounder) Light taste with a nice chew Squid Surprisingly, the texture of this wasn't as chewy as the flounder Kinmedai (splendid alfonsino) Very tasty, it was soft and smoky Chutoro (medium fatty tuna) Very fatty and melts in your mouth Tastiest piece so far Wow, look how fatty the tuna is Otoro (fatty tuna belly) Surprisingly, didn't taste as fatty as the chutoro Back of tuna Shiroebi (baby white shrimp) Tender and sweet Tiger prawn Thoughtful gesture to cut it into smaller pieces for the ladies Nishin (herring) Savory and umami Saba (mackerel) Slightly sour with a jello-like texture that was nice to chew Hamaguri (clam) Very savory and had an enjoyable chewiness Ikura (salmon roe) rice Uni (sea urchin) Very sweet Anago (saltwater eel) Tender and the added salt brings out the smokiness One of the best we've had Ending the meal with a tuna roll and omelet Thanks for watching!
