in this video I'm gonna show you five rookie UI design mistakes that you should avoid at all costs if you want your design to stand out so let's dive in mistake number one bad visual hierarchy take a look at this card what's wrong with it here as you can see we have two buttons of the same type for both of these actions that's wrong because here we have a primary and a secondary action therefore we need to use different types of buttons to indicate their level of importance it's much better now mistake number two bad micro copies I often see designers use unclear micro copies for their buttons like next instead of save or continue instead of confirm this is a very important thing to pay attention to because if it takes users a long time to understand what a button does they end up making no decision at all and the conversion rate decreases if you are not good at writing micro copies you can use chat GPT to get micro copies quickly mistake number three even roundness take a look at these two cards which one is well designed in your opinion if your answer is card B then you are absolutely right but what's wrong with card a here as you can see we have a rounded button and a rounded card with the same Corner radius values when you use the same Corner radius value for the card and the button inside it doesn't look good and here's the reason the diagonal spacing between these two corners is not the same as the padding of our card making it harder for the user to process the elements the solution is to decrease the corner radius value of the button to keep the corners closer together but it's not limited to buttons only you should remember this even when you want to place a rounded image inside your card mistake number four accessibility issues accessibility is one of the most important aspects of Designing digital products because we want to ensure that all users can use our product easily one of the common mistakes I see frequently is using a very small element like a button or an icon sometimes you focus as much on the aesthetic of your elements that you completely forget about the usability factor when you design a UI Element Make sure to make them easy to touch or click on for mobile and tablet devices it's recommended to have a minimum of 44 by 44 point hit Target let's consider this dialog when you want to place a dismiss icon at the top right corner you should first put it inside a transparent 44 by 44 point frame and then align it with other elements this way you can be sure that the user can touch it easily mistake number five bad color usage dark mode interfaces are becoming more and more popular nowadays and it's important to know how to design them properly when it comes to dark mode design you need to make sure to use colors appropriately take a look at these two interfaces which one looks better to you the left one right that's because when you design a dark mode interface you should always use lighter shades for element is closer to the user this way you can create depth properly if you want to learn how to design UI cards like a pro make sure to check out this video and as usual thanks for watching and don't forget to hit the like button if you found this video helpful have a beautiful day and see you next time
