hi everyone did you know that you are in a spiritual battle whether you like it or not that is the reality and as a child of god you have three big enemies the sinful world your fleshly nature and the devil and his demons and the biggest enemy here is the devil because he uses all of the above to try and bring you down one peter 5 8 says be sober minded be watchful your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour now unfortunately some people do not like to hear anything about the devil or talk about him because they are afraid but as a child of god you do not need to be afraid because fear does not come from god 2 timothy 1 verse 7 says for god gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control make no mistake the devil lucifer is your enemy and you need to fight him you need to resist him ephesians 6 11 says put on the whole armor of god that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil but how will you do it if you cannot see the schemes of the devil clearly you need to know his attacks you need to know your enemy to be able to beat him don't be naive 2 corinthians 2 verse 11 says that we would not be outwitted by satan for we are not ignorant of his designs so let me help you to know your enemy to know the devil and his attacks by giving you five things you need to know about the devil let's get to it name we pray amen now let's start with the first thing you need to know about satan the devil is 100 evil he's a murderer a thief and a liar devil actually means false accuser or slanderer when the jews the pharisees and the scribes wanted to kill jesus he said to them in john 8 44 you are of your father the devil and your will is to do your father's desires he was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him when he lies he speaks out of his own character for he is a liar and the father of lies you have to be awake alert because the devil can try to use anyone to bring you down you can use your mother-in-law your closest family your neighbor your boss at work criminals and even animals and technology and we all go through it in this life the thief robs you the family member who verbally abuses you the friend who lies your husband or wife that complains about everything the woman or man that tries to seduce you listen to me very carefully they are not the enemy satanists ephesians 6 12 says for we do not wrestle against flesh and blood but against the rulers against the authorities against the cosmic powers over this present darkness against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places if you only look at the physical world you are not really seeing the real reality that you are living in we live in both a physical and a spiritual world and the devil is at work behind the scenes in the spiritual realm trying to destroy you and he can use even your best friends to bring you down and he can pretend to do good that's how sneaky he is it's just like how he used peter against jesus matthew 16 21 from that time jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes and be healed and on the third day be raised and peter took him aside and began to rebuke him saying far be it from you lord this shall never happen to you but he turned and said to peter get behind me satan you are a hindrance to me for you are not setting your mind on the things of god but on the things of man you see jesus saw the truth he saw what was going on behind the scenes the spiritual realm how the devil was trying to use peter against him and you need to start and look at not only the physical world but also the spiritual to live in truth to see the true reality behind every situation and then to fight just like jesus who said get behind me satan james 4 7 says submit yourselves therefore to god resist the devil and he will flee from you the devil is real make no mistake he lurks behind the scenes and he tries to influence people and things even politicians he is fully evil 100 evil and he plans to destroy your life he hates god and he hates you because you are made in god's image and god loves you devil is also the leader the head of all the demons all the fallen angels given over to their own wickedness now satan was created as a holy angel one of the highest angels a cherub but then he became arrogant in his own power beauty and status and he thought he could be as god isaiah 14 12 says how you are fallen from heaven o day star son of dawn how you are cut down to the ground you who lay the nations low you said in your heart i will ascend to heaven above the stars of god i will set my throne on high i will sit on the mount of assembly in the far reaches of the north i will ascend above the heights of the clouds i will make myself like the most high i i so much pride puffed up arrogance and then he fell hard ezekiel 28 16 says in the abundance of your trade you were filled with violence in your midst and you sinned so i cast you as a profane thing from the mountain of god and i destroyed you o guardian cherub from the mids of the stones of fire your heart was proud because of your beauty you corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor i cast you to the ground i exposed you before kings to feast their eyes on you now jesus also talked about this when he talked to the 72 disciples that returned luke 10 verse 17 the 72 returned with joy saying lord even the demons are subject to us in your name and he said to them i saw satan fall like lightning from heaven behold i have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy and nothing shall hurt you you see there are demons on earth hiding in the shadows and even in people but god gave us the authority to fight them in his name and this battle didn't just start just recently it started thousands of years ago in heaven revelation 12 7 now war arose in heaven michael and his angels fighting against the dragon and the dragon and his angels fought back but he was defeated and there was no longer any place for them in heaven and the great dragon was thrown down that ancient serpent who is called the devil and satan the deceiver of the whole world he was thrown down to earth and his angels were thrown down with him satan was the originator of sin the devil started it all he rebelled against god and then he tried to deceive eve in the form of a serpent he sent before all human beings and then he brought it to us he is the father of sin one john 3 verse 8 says whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil for the devil has been sinning from the beginning the reason the son of god appeared was to destroy the works of the devil satan is the originator of sin and he's trying his best to get you to sin against god lucifer and his demons work very hard they never rest they work hard to oppose every single work of god they will use lies envy pride slander sickness hate guilt fear confusion doubt temptation and every other destructive weapon to turn you against god and by so doing at the end to bring you into hell with them 2 corinthians 4 4 says in their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of christ who is the image of god that is the devil's tactic to blind our minds to the truth because that is the battle that we are in truth versus lies darkness versus light good versus evil and if you choose to continue willfully to live in sin you are choosing darkness you are choosing to live for satan ephesians 2 verse 1 says and you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked following the course of this world following the prince of the power of the air the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh carrying out the desires of the body and the mind and we're by nature children of wrath like the rest of mankind now lucifer and these demons will use any and all weapons to their disposal anything that they can use they will use it against you to bring you down because they want to bring down all the work of god and you are the work of god as well and satan wants to get you off track from god's plan and purpose for your life the devil is ferocious and he doesn't care about you but the devil is also not almighty he is not god which takes us to the next point satan is no match for god god is almighty satan is just another fallen angel he's just a demon so don't give him too much credit god is omnipresent present everywhere at the same time god is omniscient he knows everything all-knowing god is omnipotent he has unlimited power the devil and his angels are limited they are not any of these they are not gods so on the one hand we have god almighty powerful creator god the other hand we just have fallen angels the devil and these demons and they are no match for god they are mighty but they are not almighty and they can never separate you from god's love romans 8 38 says for i am sure that neither death nor life nor angels nor rulers nor things present nor things to come nor powers nor heighten or death or anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of god in christ jesus our lord some people just give the devil too much credit but the devil is not stronger than god he cannot even snatch you out of god's hand john 10 28 says i give them eternal life and they will never perish and no one will snatch them out of my hand now the only power lucifer does have if god allows it is this number one to destroy the quality of our lives it can make you sick cause physical injury cause financial troubles and even influence your physical emotional well-being number two you can use other people and things to try and steal your peace and joy through all kinds of evil acts three you can send demons to trouble you if you have given them a foothold through sin four he can try to deceive you with false teachings and doctrines and five you can try to stop you from sharing the gospel by keeping you occupied with other things last point and this is very important you need to know this the devil cannot do anything without god allowing it because if the devil can just do as he pleases it means that god is not god he doesn't have control over satan a good example to look at is the story of job look at what the devil did to job but god allowed satan to test him job 1 6 says now there was a day when the sons of god came to present themselves before the lord and satan also came among them the lord said to satan from where have you come satan answered the lord and said from going to and fro on the earth and from walking up and down on it and the lord said to satan have you considered my servant job that there is none like him on the earth a blameless and upright man who fears god and turns away from evil then said and answered the lord and said does job fear god for no reason have you not put a hedge around him and his house and all that he has on every side you have blessed the work of his hands and his possessions have increased in the land but stretch out your hand and touch all that he has and he will curse you to your face and the lord said to satan behold all that he has is in your hand only against him do not stretch out your hand so satan went out from the presence of the lord and then as you continue to read you see that the devil killed all his children he took his property his wealth took everything and he even made him sick but then at the end god himself came to talk to job and this is what job said after it all job 42 verse 5 i had heard of you by the hearing of the ear but now my eye sees you so god used it all to bring job closer to him a deeper relationship and at the end god blessed him even more than before job 42 verse 12 says and the lord blessed the latter days of job more than his beginning you need to understand that the devil is not god's equal he cannot just do as he pleases god is in control he is god over everything that includes the devil he is god over all his creation the animals on the land and the fish in the sea and us humans as well the devil is just a fallen angel he cannot do anything to you personally or your family if god does not allow it but now you also need to understand something that is very important god would not allow difficult times in your life if he does not have a reason for it he might allow difficult and tough situations in your life to test you to test your faith and to teach you something remember james 1 verse 2 says count it all joy my brothers when you meet trials of various kinds for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness and let steadfastness have its full effect that you may be perfect and
