I consider myself a generally forgiving person no I don't but there are some things streamers do that Kirk me to the core I will literally click away faster than you can say ah but fortunately for you most of these are pretty easy fixes these are five things trimmers do that trigger me my name is Chris folia I'll be your professor welcome to stream school before we get started here's the obligatory make sure you hit that like and subscribe button if you enjoy the video enjoy my content in general or just enjoy looking at my beautiful face also just a friendly reminder that I am live every Tuesday Friday and Saturday at twitch.tv slash Oracle Phish live and a quick disclaimer that these are my correct opinions it is okay if you disagree if you want to be wrong and usually the order of these videos is completely irrelevant I just sort of choose an order that I find interesting but today we are going in reverse order from least triggering to absolutely most infuriating so that being said let's get to the list 5 the mumble chat this one triggers me the least out of the list but it's still pretty annoying and I admittedly occasionally catch myself doing it too but I hate it when I type a sentence to a streamer and all I hear in response is something like this while they like struggle to read my message oh oh thank you Oracle good tip I appreciate it it just sounds unprofessional and it looks disgusting come on to fix it honestly just takes practice but you're going to want to either read the entire message to yourself without mumbling and then respond while addressing your viewer so they know you're talking to them yo bacon toast 49 I agree 100% it is amazing that they added skinny dipping to Modern Warfare or read their entire message loud and clear and then respond Joe Patton is Jim you think it's amazing that they added the slaughterhouse mechanics the Hello Kitty Adventure Island what is wrong with you either of those options makes it very clear to your viewers that you got their messages and responded and you look like a total fro doing it for the side camera multiple choice time what is the point of a face cam on a stream a to let your viewers see your reactions to the gameplay and form a more personable connection with your viewers B to fill up empty space on your screen C to show off that dope suit nurse you set up bra or D off-brand hot pockets the answer is obvious right please please please tell me the answer is obvious if it wasn't obvious the answer is a you want your viewers to see your reactions to the gameplay that being said let me ask you something else do you feel very connected to me right now and can you see my facial expressions didn't think so so for the love of everything good in this world why do I see so many side cameras on Twitch somebody to tell me I genuinely want to know the one thing I hear in return to some extent is bruh I want to show off my dope ass sick nasty setup let me solve this for you right now completely free of charge take out your camera take a picture of your setup put that picture in the description below your twitch stream done now people can see your dope setup and they can see your beautiful reactions to the gameplay you're welcome look the problem with a side face cam is yes people can see your setup that's very cool but once they see your setup that rectangle that rectangle on the screen serves no further purpose it is just a completely wasted screen real estate ideally you want your face cam to be a 3/4 view of your face so they can see your beautiful reactions point an end to the frame to lead your viewers eyes from your face to whatever it is you're doing three clipping audio let me tell you if I hop into a stream and I hear something similar to oh my god I never go back and watch or listen to my streams or even test my setup ha ha ha ha I'm out period now I'm not an audio engineer I can't offer specific advice for your specific setup mixer or audio interface in regards to clipping but please please do some testing before you stream listen to your voice at its highest at its lowest at its normal volume and make sure you are not clipping and if you're not using audio compression definitely look into it what audio compression does is it lowers the high points of your voice and raises the low points of your voice to sort of normalize the volume of your audio but completely in real-time it is amazing a lot of audio interfaces or mixers have at least some form of compression built in I personally recommend either the go XLR or the go XLR mini I've had really good luck with my go XLR the thing is a life saver and you're gonna want to use hardware compression not software compression software compression normalizes the audio levels after it's already been converted to a digital signal so it's just lowering the already clipped audio which still sounds like absolute trash hahahaha - the floating microphone arm whew spooky will hit this point a little bit harder in my upcoming green screen video but I wanted to mention it here because it flat-out triggers me look at this look at this does this look professional or clean to you now I am all for having microphones on screen they can look cool fancy techy expensive they can really just add to your all-around image and it's important to get the thing relatively close to your mouth however if you are using a green screen do not do not do not just have the microphone arm floating there a green screen can be one of the most useful cool and interesting items in your arsenal but if you're just gonna treat it as a lazy afterthought to cover up a messy or boring background room don't even father so as a quick fix either move the microphone arm down or compensate for it with your overlay design which will also talk about more in my upcoming green screen video but just for reference I hide or compensate for the entry point of my mic arm in every single scene and finally the number one most triggering thing eating the microphone the number one most triggering thing that I see on Twitch that makes me absolutely want to take my face and shove it through the monitor so I don't have to stare at it anymore is when people eat their microphones look I get it you sound really good when you get close to your microphone like this it's called the proximity effect but you are not recording a platinum record you are streaming video games or some other activity and seeing your face is arguably more important than being directly on your microphone and look you can see my face right now my mouth is like two-and-a-half inches away from my microphone and I sound phenomenal and on top of that I don't look like a budget Bane from Batman are you going to break your spine so please please please please I am begging you put at least a couple inches between your face and the microphone when you're streaming so I can see your beautiful face and I occasionally see people with the sm7b a $400 microphone talking into it like this the sm7b is not a side address microphone and this applies to all microphones not not to turn outside address but just make sure you're talking into the right area of it please you spent a lot of money on a fancy microphone you want to sound your best and that's the list if you found this video in any way shape or form even remotely helpful make sure you hit that like and subscribe button for more tips coming at you and just a friendly reminder that I am live every Tuesday Friday and Saturday at twitch.tv slash Oracle Phish live I'm curious let me know in the comments what triggers you or makes you click away until next time my name is Chris folia classes Oh [Music] you you
