5 Reasons Why You Should Build a Pole Barn

hi guys this is kennedy with greg james designs and me and greg are here today to tell you five reasons why you should own a pole barn no that's ten five number one five reasons you may want to consider a wood pole barn or what we technically call post and frame construction over a metal building number one foundation cost the foundation on a pole barn is much less expensive because the poster in the ground there's several ways to do your posts you can put concrete around them we'll go into more detail about that later but suffice it to say the foundation cost much much less versus a steel building two number two the second reason you may want to consider a wood pole barn is the overall structure is cheaper in most situations now lumber at the time of this filming lumber costs have shot way up because we've had a hurricane covered a lot of circumstances around the lumber market putting a lot of pressure on supply right now but in my 30 plus years of doing this prices fluctuate they'll eventually come back down everything will be fine but overall the the the shell itself the package which if you would say is going to be quite a bit less than most steel buildings so three number three reason you may want to consider pole barn is lead time what is that well that's the time you order the building the time you take delivery of the building now typically we you know we also supply metal buildings as well and many many people do on average it'll take you anywhere from about nine to 12 weeks or more from the time you order your building to the time you get it for most pre-engineered steel buildings reason being they have to produce structural drawings that takes a long time they got some people have their own staff some people outsource it to engineering companies it also depends on what state you're in so all those plans have to be drawn up and drafted they have to be sent to you to be approved and then sent back to them to make any changes then they do the final set of plans then it goes into production that whole process a lot of work yeah i ain't joking it's a lot of that much time you haven't even started building yet all right number four so greg i enjoy looking at the inside of the house um what are some interior design aspects of pole barns yeah that's a good question uh you know one of the big reasons people love barn dominions is they love the big open space that you get i mean you get wall-to-wall room lots of room lots of space lots of volume well one reason you may want to consider a wood pole barn is if you want to see all that beautiful woodwork up there and there's a lot of ways you can do that you can leave those trusses exposed you can put some beautiful ship lap up top there you can do drywall if you need to there's a lot of options so it looks pretty cool if you like that look and you want to see all that beautiful woodwork up there pole barn may be a great option for you we did a i did a home for a a beautiful couple in michigan one time and he wanted to see all the the wood so he wanted a pole barn structure so that he could leave all those trusses exposed and then you can either paint them or stain them or whatever but it's a great option if you want to see the the wood so think about that so greg what are my options for exterior designs make sure i mean like the outside yes outside outside outside of the house outside outside okay well because we deal with basically metal boxes um when you're dealing with let's say a metal building structure you got to keep the geometry pretty straight forward on the roof you can't get crazy with the roof uh you're dealing for the most part just a box with a straight peak you really can't do hips with a hip ropes with a metal building easily you can it gets very expensive you might as well build it out of wood but with a pole barn because it is a wood structure at its core you have a lot more options so you want those dormers popping off the front of your house you want a nice big cupola on the top with the flying chicken you know on top of your cupola there's a lot more options up there so think about that you you can get more creative with exterior without a lot of um a lot of headache for your framer and your building guys so hope that answers your question i love that i love that it gives more you like the prime chicken do you want a flying chicken i'll think about it i'll think about it greg but i do like the opportunity to be able to do something a little different do something different you can make it look the way you want the aesthetic you want all right it's not just one specific all right so give us a call and how do should they subscribe to our channel or not smash that like button and subscribe we have lots of helpful tips we have greg with all of his jokes barndominium barndominium you
