5 Organization Tips for a Clutter-Free Linen Closet | How To Fold Towels & Sheets | Real Simple

hey it's brandi we're going to reorganize my linen closet and i'm going to show you how to fold your towels and sheets to get maximum storage [Music] before you start organizing declutter retire all those old towels blankets holy sheets oftentimes animal shelters will gladly take your leftover blankets the rule of thumb is really to have two to three sheet sets per bedroom and only one to two sheet sets for your guest room one thing to keep in mind is do you have space where this product should live where you use it on a daily basis for example i keep my toilet paper in the bathroom so having back stock in my linen closet really isn't helpful plan plan plan before you buy anything and go wild online and start buying all these pretty baskets and bins measure your space sketch it out and then shop your home i realized i have so many gorgeous baskets and containers and bins that i don't use or could be used in a better way in my linen closet when you do buy items make sure you choose things that you can easily return you'd be surprised how much you don't need to organize your space and i think a big takeaway here is as you start to organize and purge you really realize the abundance that you already have organizing linens by each room is super helpful you see i have a bin for millie's room my son sonny's room the master bedroom and the guest room nothing is out of place it's so easy to just grab that bend and go change the bed one of my favorite hacks for storing bedding is to put your fitted sheet flat sheet and one pillowcase stacked in a bundle and then put that entire set in the other pillowcase wrap it up and keep this in one area it makes changing your bed sheets super simple and convenient this towel folding trick saves about six inches of storage space fold your towel in half width-wise then fold it up a third and then fold it the rest of the thirds now you have this nice long piece of towel and then fold it towards the center twice and then you're gonna have these beautiful towels where all your guests will think they're at a hotel even folding my towels and organizing them by pattern just looks nice and clean and neat pick your style and choose a theme to keep the closet cohesive this doesn't mean everything needs to be matchy matchy i found these black metal labels online and i bought a chalk pen and it's so easy for me to personalize whatever i need that label to say but if you have a label maker that's easy too you can just type in what you need and tape it to the front i love how you see the pops of white that really go with the wired basket the natural wood handle and that plays off of the natural baskets also those baskets are great for hiding different prints of blankets and storing back stock items choose vertical folding when you're storing things in baskets i did this with the washcloth and also the hand towels a lazy susan is so clutch for storing cleaning supplies i can easily give it a little spin to find exactly what i need i love decanting as much as i can so i decanted my brightening powder my wool dryer balls they're easy to see in those clear canisters and adding a label just makes it that much more organized keeping things that you use on a daily basis at eye level and within arm's reach makes it so easy and just saves time to find things that you use all the time we go to the beach a lot so to make sure that my kiddos can come up here and grab their beach towels i put them on the very bottom shelf i also rolled the beach towel so you can easily see what towel we have you can grab them and we have two baskets right there in front this linen closet brings me so much joy it looks so good i feel organized i feel like there's no clutter it's tidy and smart those labels just make me smile from ear to ear because i know exactly where everything is everything has a home it almost makes me feel so inspired to maintain this organization and also inspired to clean and know that i don't need to buy anything new i have plenty of everything that i need i hope that my tips today gave you so much inspiration for your linen closet and helps you maximize the space that you have i'm brandi and i'll see you next time bye [Music]
