today I'm going to show you 10 of the very best tips and hacks to transform your small space renter friendly closet using only Walmart items I'm inviting you into this little narrow Corridor which makes up our dimly lit closet space my husband and I share this area and one of my biggest complaints is that the lighting is just so bad it makes it difficult for me to choose my clothes and it's got hidden little areas like this corner that are difficult and awkward well if you're like me you've tried for years to organize things and what it comes down to is many of us just have too much for the space we have so I started by donating a lot of items I was pretty ruthless with this and if you receive my newsletter I talked a lot about this process this week I was tired of Shifting things around clothes that no longer fit or that I no longer really liked or wore and I ended up with three large trash bags that I donated next on my list was really tackling the lighting problem because I didn't want to go any further in this project without being able to see really clearly so I found these stick up bars at Walmart I'm linking them below they were about ten dollars and fifty cents a piece and they are remote controlled so I was able to affix these to the inside of the closet with command strips I put up one bar on each side of our closet and I expected them to run independently of each other but I was really delighted to find that when I pushed one remote control it actually turned on both closet lights so I mounted those remote control devices on the outside of our closet so we will never lose those and whenever I want to turn on both of those lights all I need to do is press either one of those buttons now I will definitely be purchasing more of these lights and using them all around my house in most of my projects I recommend that you remove everything from the area before you do anything else but there were just so many items in this closet I didn't want to do anything else before I had tackled the problem of my shoes and I knew that that would take up this whole top rack so I took everything off the top rack and cleaned it really well last week I began this two-part series by showing you how to organize your dresser drawers and I created two different methods depending on how you best like to organize so I will attach that below if you're interested in figuring out how to start by organizing your drawers maybe you have an area of your closet that's like ours here it's a 90 degree angle from the door frame so it's not easy to reach and a lot of times it's wasted space I had originally thought I might put some shelves here that were easy to access and I still may do that on the other side but for now I think this is going to be the perfect place to store things like formal clothes and suits that we wear often enough that we don't need to put them in storage but not often enough that we really need access every single day so for now this part of the closet up to this 90 degree angle here is going to be covered bags of more formal clothes well most of us have a love-hate relationship with our shoes we love to buy them and wear them but they're really really hard to store and they take up a lot of space in our small space we had mounted this ugly wire shoe rack to the wall for my husband's shoes and then I had mine in various locations throughout our closet so I decided once and for all to tackle this now as I said in my last video my husband and I sat down and talked about our wishes and needs and he just asked that the shoes not be stored in a Dusty dark corner in the floor and I thought he was absolutely right so I came up with this idea after a little bit of research and I am so glad I did because it is a game changer I purchased three of these racks from Walmart and they're just a little over ten dollars a piece I was able to put them up without any tools whatsoever in about five minutes they're very intuitive and easy to put up and then the real hack here is that I zip tied them all three together that they're taking up that top row of our closet thanks to the new lighting bar we can really easily see all the shoes now that my husband and I both own now each rack claims to hold 12 pairs of shoes that's going to really vary based on the size and the style of your shoes I did decide to keep some of my dressier shoes in plastic shoe boxes but for the most part I can see and easily reach every single pair of shoes now if you live in a seasonal climate like we do I'm going to be storing my out of season shoes on those top racks and my in season shoes on the easy to reach bottom racks [Music] never you're storing your shoes on a horizontal surface like this one here's a pro tip to make the very most of your space store your shoes one facing forward and one facing back you can still see this pair that you need but you're going to get the very most out of that space [Music] well now not only are our shoes all in one place and welded but they're almost at eye level very easy to reach and I am able to get rid of that Old Wire shoe wrap if you're new to Skip to My Life a great big welcome if you've been around a while you've probably seen this little hack and it is either painting or covering your clothes rack now this may sound a little odd at first but I hope that you will hear me out and stay to the end and you will see the dramatic before and after I first tried out this idea in my laundry area and I was floored by how much light a covered or white laundry rack brings to the area I had no idea how dingy that dirty scratched up wood was making my closet look here's my eighth tip out of ten but I do also have a bonus hack at the very end so you're going to want to make sure and watch all the way through if you can only make one investment in your closet make it in incredible hangers I finally bit the bullet and decided to transform all my tubular and mismatch hangers into wire hangers and of course this project takes a little bit of time so you do have to be patient my long hair dachshund Bella was so over it I turned around and I found her on this day laying in this position I'm not sure what was going on but her expression here kind of summed up what it was like to transfer all these clothes if you've been here with me at Skip to My Life for a while you know that I love to give shout outs to your fur babies so leave a comment down below and let me know if you have a fur baby you would like to see featured in an upcoming episode one of my favorite features of these hangers is that I can swivel the top hook to let my clothes face all the same direction without taking anything off that hanger and reversing it between covering those rods and changing out the hangers I think the before and after just of these two things is really dramatic [Music] I've linked to all the items I'm using in this episode Down Below most of them come in at or below ten dollars so they are very economical between all my clothing I ended up using four packs of the 30 hangers [Music] now no matter what size or shape your closet it seems that we all need space savers in this space so I'm going to show you a little Pro tip using Dollar Tree Cutting Boards you can buy similar devices that do the same function for much more money but there is absolutely no need start by using an exacto knife to cut those cutting boards into about one and a half inch strips and then draw a circle at two inch intervals down the length of those strips next you'll simply punch a hole with a regular old hole punch at every two inch circle that you just made on The Cutting Board strip [Music] comment below and let me know if you're guessing what we're using these for my husband has mini dress shirts and he doesn't wear them all on a regular basis but still want it to keep them in place and since he had some room below I decided to make most efficient use of this space by devising this little strip for multiple hangers this idea is much less expensive than buying a specific item for this purpose and I really prefer it more because it allows each item to hang on its own hanger hanging shelves can also be great space savers but I have found in this area you are definitely going to get what you pay for the flimsier ones that you pay three to five dollars for just do not hold up and don't provide as much support on those shelves as this really nice canvas shelf from Walmart I originally purchased two and used them to sort through a lot of my husband's t-shirts and then in the end I returned one of them and only ended up using one next I needed a space saving solution for my husband's belts I really don't hardly ever use belts but he has several and I went with the very simple Plain Jane and economical value of these multi-purpose hooks the second thing I did was purchase a cami organizer now I do love to wear Camis this little wire rack came two for a package under ten dollars and it was an excellent space-saving deal [Music] beautiful storage containers are all the rage nowadays and I had been using these Dollar Tree bins for quite some time but I had two problems the first was I could not see through them so I didn't know what was in them and the second was a lot of those items just weren't being used anymore so to the rescue I found the lucite bins from Walmart now these retail for two for ten dollars and they're extra large shoe boxes I could not be happier with them in fact I think I'm gonna buy more for other rooms of my house this is a great idea and it Rivals some of the higher end more expensive lucite bins that we're seeing everywhere rather than use cutouts or stickers to label these bins I decided just to print out my labeling on some cardstock and insert it in the front of the clear bin now this allows me to switch out those bins when I end up using them for something else or if I want to use them facing the other direction I can simply transfer the card to the other side of the box for this reasonable price I found that I was really able to do exactly what I wanted and make the vision that I had for storage in this closet come to happen [Music] foreign [Music] was to store my purses and my jewelry in my closet as well but I had ended up with a tangled mess of chains and earrings and purses that just flopped over from side to side if you have the same problem simply take some black bull noodles from Dollar Tree or anywhere they're sold and cut them with a serrated knife to fit inside your bag now this will help the bag to stand up straight not fall over and take up the least amount of space in your closet storage area foreign [Music] storage I was using just was not working and mainly because the necklace Chains Got either Tangled or they fell out and I wasn't happy with the way that it looked so I decided to drastically simplify this area as well with this little hanging jewelry organizer and one of the things I love the most about it is the color the black color really showcases my jewelry and makes it easy for me to see keep watching and I'll show you what I did with some of the extra pieces that I don't wear on a regular basis front portion of this hanging jewelry organizer has velcro strips that are really easy for me to access my necklaces without them getting tangled or falling off as well as my Bangles now on the other side I'm keeping my earrings and most of these are earrings that I wear on a regular basis but some of them are just for fun for my everyday earrings I found this small stackable bin from Walmart for only five dollars during this closet redo I went through all my old cosmetic and family heirloom jewelry most of it is not valuable to anyone but me but I was able to separate it and label it and I'm going to pay passing some of that down to my kids now the second thing I did was went through some of my costume jewelry and put that all in a little box that I covered with gold wrapping paper and I will be giving to a special little someone to play dress up foreign [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign if you're struggling with a cramped tiny closet chock full of clothes but feel like you have nothing to wear I highly recommend you take this project on with the 10 tips and hacks I have shown you today and don't forget to comment below and let me know which items you loved and which ideas you tried and most of all my friend do not forget that today is not the end of your story so don't quit keep putting one foot right in front of the other
