when you try something for the first time you're going to make mistakes whether big or small it's going to happen and Final Fantasy 14 is not an exception to this rule in fact as a new player you're likely going to make a lot of them but with that being said here are some of the biggest mistakes you'll want to avoid as a new Warrior of life one of the first things I'll always recommend doing anytime you start a new game is looking at your settings because far too often will you find options hidden away that help improve your experience with the game and this is especially true with 14 as there is an absolute plethora of quality of life options found in the character configurations do you dislike having to click between the different pages of your inventory well you can change that do you find the wall of player names overwhelming when you go to a major city well you can change that or do you just want your cooldown timer to be in the center of your ability rather than the corner well you can change that and those are just a few of the minor options you have available because some of the more important ones are things like your movement settings because by default the game will have you on standard but but by switching to Legacy you'll have much more control over your character then there's the effect setting so if you find yourself being blinded by everyone's spell effects you can actually change this disabling the effects for those outside your party or even making it so you only see the effects you care about when in your own party however your settings aren't the only thing you should be looking at because you're also going to want to mess around with your UI now eventually you'll actually want to take some time to fully customize that UI to your liking but for now what you're going to want to do is open the HUD layout and select the target bar after which you want to click the gear icon open the element settings where you'll tick a box splitting the target bar into three separate elements the most important of which is the target progress bar because this will let you know when an enemy is using a powerful attack along with how long you have until set attack finishes and so having this in an easy to see location is going to help you better handle boss attacks and of course avoid damage the importance of blue quests also known as feature quests cannot be understated because these are how you unlock unlock basically everything as the name feature Quest implies if you want to do new dungeons trials or raids you have to do a feature Quest if you want to use mounts you have to do a feature Quest or if you just want to change your hair you have to do a feature Quest the fact is basically everything in the game is locked behind doing one of these various feature quests found across the world now the most important type of these quests are known as job quests which not only allow you to unlock the various jobs found in 14 but also provide gear and even are required to unlock certain abilities for said job jobs furthermore if you want to upgrade a class to its corresponding job you're going to have to do all that class's quests first which is also why these quests are usually going to be your highest priority to the point that you should do them the moment they become available even if it means taking a slight detour from the main story because the last thing he want is to go into a new fight missing a key ability that you could have speaking of which another mistake that often goes hand inand with doing your job quest is remembering to equip your job stone this is an item that you'll receive on completing the quest that upgrades your class to to its corresponding job and in order to actually use the job you'll have to make sure the stone is equipped but to summarize make sure to do your feature quests and especially do not neglect your job quest because you will regret [Music] it there are a good few mistakes that you'll likely make tied to your job or role which of course you are learning after all but with that being said let's go over a few of the more common blunders new players tend to make starting with healing the biggest mistake you're like to or currently are making is not being efficient with your heals the worst offenders of this usually are Astros or white Mages because of the proc on their weaker heel too many new healers get the idea in their head that they need to use weaker heels as their default while saving the stronger heel for emergency but this is fundamentally wrong because you see healing in 14 is about getting the most out of your cast meaning having to do two cast to heal a Target isn't really ideal when you could do the same thing with a single but more expensive cast moving on to tanks the big issue for for them usually comes in the form of cooldown management far too often will new tanks fall into the Trap of saving their mitigation for bosses when in truth it's usually better to use them for the trash in between said bosses but even then when new tanks do mitigate trash they tend to fall into the Trap of stacking their mitigations which will reduce the damage they take by a large amount but for a significantly shorter time than if they were to do the preferred option of rolling their cooldowns which is using one mitigation as another is about to fall off spreading them out over a longer time and the reason that this is generally better is because M packs tend to be an endurance test and by rolling your cool Downs you ensure that you're mitigating the entire pool rather than just the beginning next up is the DPS and the biggest mistake of note for them only has to do with melee and their positionals see when playing a melee DPS some of your attacks will do bonus damage if used at a specific part of the enemy usually either the rear or the flank both of which you can identify by using the circle found under an enemy when they're targeted the wedge missing from the circle indicates that that is the enemy's rear whereas the flank starts with the line also as an extra note if an enemy has a complete circle it doesn't have positionals meaning you'll always get the bonus effect from those attacks so a scenario that many new players are going to find themselves in is reaching the end of a base Realm Reborn having to fight the hard version of all the different primals and then getting a feature Quest that unlocks yet another difficulty extreme and while the game made you do the hard version so that means you'll have to do the extremes as well right no nor should you and while most will be dissuaded by the incredibly long Q time these fights are bound to have just as many will try to wait them out and they will eventually pop putting you into these fights as they're actually a part of the mentor roulette you see extremes are the first level of high-end content and because of this these fights are going to be significantly harder than anything you've done so far to give an idea of how the different difficulties are when compared to what you're used to normal content at most might have you die a couple of times but you'll usually finish it within 10 to 30 minutes extremes are much more difficult to the point you could expect them to take you a couple 1H hour lockouts to beat meaning you stayed until the timer runs out Savages are even harder than that with each fight likely requiring several 2hour lockouts to clear and lastly ultimates which are the hardest pieces of content the game has to offer can likely take people several months to clear which is to say high-end content is its own beast and something you really need to be prepared before trying because if not you're going to be completely overwhelmed which is to say you never want to cue for these through the Duty Finder even though extremes which are the more accessible of the three are the only difficulty you can realistically get into through the Duty Finder I should also make note of a couple pieces of content that sit in this weird gray area that being Earth's font and the kohs of Bahamut despite not being labeled as such both are considered high-end content and thus do not appear un roulettes meaning if you wanted to do either you'd have to get a group together first speaking of which if you ever do decide to give harder content a try you'll want to do so through the party finder which is where grouping for high-end content is usually handled [Music] before we get into the biggest mistake that new players tend to make let's quickly cover a few minor mistakes that you'll want to try and avoid first off don't waste experience the main story is designed to get a job to max level by the time you complete it meaning any extra experience outside the main stor such as from your roulettes is basically wasted on your main job which is why you should actually level a few other jobs with your daily roulettes while going through the story that way by the time you reach the end you'll have multiple jobs in your max level giving you more options as to what to play in the same vein of not wasting experience don't neglect your grand company turn ends as they are a great way to level your crafters and gatherers with relatively little effort if you make sure to do them every day that you log on then by the time you reach the end of the story there's a good chance you might have almost all of them near Max also as an extra bonus progressing your grand company will open up a few extra options for you down the line and our last mistake is not joining a free company which is 14's Clans or guilds though to be fair if you're on the free trial this isn't actually something you're able to do but when you do eventually Buy by the game joining a free company is definitely something you should consider as being a part of the right Community will greatly enhance your experience plus you'll usually have access to FC Buffs which can give you nice things like bonus experience the biggest mistake you're likely to make as a new player is going to be rushing through the game primarily Around Reborn because you've likely been told that the game doesn't really get good until Heavens were and because of this many new players are going to try and get to that award-winning expansion as fast as they can however the sad truth of this mentality is that it greatly hurts your chances of actually making it to Heaven word because if you believe you need to rush through the first part of the game the chances are you're going to lose interest which is why to an extent the way that we as 14 players present a r born to new people is somewhat problematic as while it did and still does to an extent have issues we often present it as the worst thing ever that those starting the game will have to suffer through which sadly puts this image into new players heads that can definitely hurt their experience by putting this idea that they need to get through a real reborn rather than actually play it now that's not to say that a real reborn doesn't have its problems but none of them are so bad that you shouldn't be able to enjoy the game at your own pace which is the secret to enjoying not only Final Fantasy 14 but basically everything don't rush yourself take your time and enjoy the game at your own pace if you want to take a break take a break if you want to put the story to the side and try something different then put it to the side and enjoy whatever you decide to try there is no need to hurry to the end so enjoy the journey and that is the last of our notable mistakes meaning we're nearing the end now this video is in the fourth in the series going over various things in Final Fantasy 14 to hopefully help new players on their Journey the next video I recommend checking out is this one I made going over the four biggest tips to playing healer but if you found this video helpful please consider liking it and possibly subscribing to the channel so you know when I release a new video also feel free to ask any questions you may have in the comments and I'll do my best to try and answer them but with all that being said thanks for watching and I wish you the best on your 14 Journey
