5 days in okinawa 🇯🇵

A roadtrip in Okinawa Let's start! Okinawa Okinawa (with 12 people) My first time in Japan with kids haha Day 1: hotel room tour and Senaga Island Toyota Rental Car (Naha Airport Branch) Getting an ETC card for toll roads Each family drove their own car We are driving over to Senaga Island (it's next to the airport!) It was 35C when we got there 🥵 Agnes' Portuguese Bake Shop Cafe Okinawa We will first get lunch before checking in malasada donuts Açaí bowl Okinawa feels more like Hawaii than Japan MARCY'S OKINAWA The banana yellow interiors caught my eye They're famous for the banana juice But all of us wanted ice cream salt soft serve "You don't like it?" "I like ice cream but I don't like salt in my ice cream" There are a lot of shops and cafes in this neighbourhood Would recommend if you're near the airport! We just picked up our car and then we had lunch close by to the airport We are here in Okinawa which is the most southern part of Japan and it's only a 2 hour flight from Hong Kong. It is pretty hot here- I thought it would be cooler than Hong Kong but it's actually more humid. So I gotta change- I'm pretty sweaty. We're gonna head over to the hotel. It's about a 50 minute drive up north to Seragaki and we'll give you a quick hotel room tour then (50 minutes later) Hoshino Resorts BEB5 Okinawa Seragaki I'm gonna give you guys a quick room tour before we dump our stuff out and make it messy I am standing here at the master bathroom- it is huge There's Dyson hair dryer, And here is the shower and bathtub The really cool thing about this hotel is maybe because it is more of a beachfront property, is that there is a washer for you to do your laundry At the entrance, now turning in: we have a hallway That leads you to the bathroom and narrow sink I'm really not used to hotels here in Okinawa because they're absolutely massive compared to the tiny ones we've been in Tokyo It's almost like a serviced apartment because here we have the bedroom, We got the corner room so that's why we have windows on both sides We have the living room and also a fully functioning kitchenette Which includes a Balmuda toaster oven, fridge, kitchen sink, And yeah it's almost like a serviced apartment here Went to check out the pool By the time we got settled in, the sun was setting There's a Lawson's about a 5 minute walk from the hotel I wanna see what exclusive Okinawa snacks they have! (It's flatter and wider than normal soba) Wow this sunset! Spent a bit of time just taking pics before dinner Taco Rice Cafe Kijimuna Onna Village Branch A landslide of boys Taco rice Late night dessert haul Today I picked up these Dole 'Banana Dole Dippers'. They're basically chocolate covered bananas Not dessert but this is smoked chicken breast from Lawson's So right now I'm traveling but I'm still training with my personal trainer in Hong Kong so I need to hit my protein targets Alright, bon appétit! It's really cold The chicken is actually not bad Day 2: pancakes and whales Paanilani Nuts nuts pancake King bacon pancake with egg Fried chicken pancake with egg Comes with 'notes' to spit your chewed gum into Good morning! It is day 2 of our Okinawa trip! This morning it was raining and finally the clouds have let up and we're seeing a little bit of blue sky We just had a really large pancake breakfast with a huge group of people. I'm actually on this trip with my cousin who is here from Canada She has 3 boys. And then my other friend has 1 kid. So we are a group of 12 people. The great thing about going to Okinawa is that a lot of these restaurants can accommodate large parties of people Unlike a lot of restaurants in Tokyo which are hole-in-the-wall spots Now we're on our way to get some coffee first. And then making our way to the famous aquarium in Okinawa Inno Coffee Shop This coffee stand is run by one person There's a cat shop next door to keep the kids amused for a bit Now on our way to the main event: Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium Traveling with kids be like: "Don't touch my lens!" You can reserve a table next to the large aquarium This looks like a huge LED screen and not a real haha iPhone 15 Pro Max x5 zoom quality Of course when in Japan: Cleaning the aquarium glass is key ✔️ Surprisingly we didn't need a lot of time at the aquarium We were all done in 1.5 hours The ocean surrounding the aquarium was so pretty My only souvenir of the aquarium Ufuya This is a sprawling century old house-turned-restaurant We arrived around 2pm and queued for 15 minutes They specialize in agu pork but their shabu shabu was sold out :( I requested a table next to the waterfall soba noodles with agu pork chashu not gonna lie, I was sweating buckets but the aesthetic was 🤌🏼🤌🏼🤌🏼 The pineapple park is right next door Nago Pineapple Park If this is for kids, why am I so excited The highlight were these self driving pineapple cars "3 kilometres per hour" "Wow slow down, Sam! Slow down!" "So cool self driving cars: Tesla" After the pineapple tour, there's a butterfly garden and dinosaur park for the kids Pineapple mango popsicle At the end there's a pineapple theme shop And for adults, a winery and cafe where you can do wine tasting and grab dessert or pineapple juice The pineapple song is gonna be stuck in my head for the rest of the trip American Village "Should I get the can of spam or the spam burger?" All the kids passed out so they went back to the hotel while we stayed out to shop and eat This is an 80's outdoor mall that catered to the US military Mickey has a tan It feels like Niagara Falls Personally American Village was not for me Especially if you're from the USA/Canada This brand sells glass jewelry that mimics the different shades of the ocean in Okinawa "Oh I want to go here still!" "We were about to go for dinner but then we passed by this Christmas Land and I just want to stop by and check it out" Oh it was closed :( Jirocho Sushi Craving sushi so we went to this spot nearby sashimi platter for "3-5" people haha Blue Seal Have to try the 'official' ice cream shop of Okinawa This location had a lot of merch and takeout selection "Look at these miniature toys! You can get one of these:" "I'm gonna get a packet of these" Reminds me of Archie comics san francisco mint chocolate chip chocolate cookies swirl Day 3: coffee by the beach Today we are doing some cafe hopping! Diamond Beach Cafe Another cafe close to our hotel I wanted to come here because it has a beautiful view of the beach (It can also accommodate huge groups of people!) This is an incredibly popular cafe on Instagram: Located next to a luxury hotel Hoshino Resorts BANTA CAFE It has a sprawling terrace overlooking the beach where you can enjoy coffee and small bites We came here right after breakfast to avoid crowds bukubuku jelly soda Kids can go play in the water while adults can watch them and get nice photos at the cafe haha pork egg onigiri The kids had fun swimming and hunting for hermit crabs ps. there's a 'secret' terrace right on the beach that you can't see from the cafe This may have been my favourite spot in all of Okinawa (especially if you can't afford the hotel rates here haha) Continuing down to Naha This is a tourist-y shopping destination Naha Kokusai Dori Shopping Street But the best shops were located down a small, quiet road: Where there's Stussy, local brands and vintage stores Jabber There's not a lot of vintage select shops in Okinawa But most of them are located here on this small side road Snoopy's Surf Shop This is the real reason why we came down this road in the first place This Snoopy surf shop has exclusive Okinawa merch I wanted to get some gifts for a friend I prefer all these small boutiques on this side road We are now heading to Blue Seal Since the kids haven't tried the ice cream yet Blue Seal This shop was really packed with tourists so it was hard to find a table for 12 Look at these groups of guys in Orion tees! It was super stuffy and suddenly it started raining So here's a few photos we took on the Fujifilm today: Got dinner at a place near our hotel Okinawa sashimi platter Sea grape seaweed salad It has a bubble wrap texture! Agu pork steak Alright we got another late night dessert haul First up we have the 'Blue Seal' Klondike style sandwich bar This is like a thin chocolate bar filled with vanilla ice cream "Mine is healthy and full of nutrients" haha Day 4: souvenir unboxing and soba by the ocean Hey guys, this is our last day here in Okinawa I'm gonna show you guys what I've bought so far I don't think we'll be shopping today and just be hitting up the beaches so this is pretty much my entire haul this trip Also the main reason why I want to do the shopping haul now is because I wanna wear this shirt It is very popular here in Okinawa to purchase branded T-shirts such as the beer, Orion, They also have one for Spam and also for their national ice cream brand 'Blue Seal'. It's very popular for groups of families and friends to all wear the matching T-shirts I got the 'Spam' one and on the bottom it also says 'Okinawa' which I think is super adorable Actually let me just open it for you now so we can see what it looks like: Here we have a can of spam and on the bottom it says 'Okinawa' Okinawa is also known for their Japanese American food and there's a lot of taco rice bowls that we've been eating here- Victor just purchased a bottle of their taco rice seasoning When we were at the Okinawa Aquarium, We also popped in for some blue soda This is the churaumi soda pop. You can get it at their vending machines that are just outside of the aquarium And it's got a hint of salt in it as well You know I love buying mints from the convenience stores here This Mintia flavour which is 'chocolate and banana' I don't know if this is an exclusive flavour of Okinawa but I thought this was just really cute This is very quick thing that I got from the pineapple farm which is the photo that you take when you take their pineapple car I think we paid ¥1,000 for this photo Usually I don't do souvenir tourist photos but my cousin and their families were all getting it done so I said "hey why not let's pick one up too" While I didn't get the Blue Seal T-shirt, I did get a pack of playing cards That is illustrated with a lot of ice cream. Let me see if I can open this and show you This is so freaking cute! They have the different graphics from various Blue Seal products. Wow this one is kinda busted! Look at this crappy printing quality: the Queen is on the edge The joker is holding soft serve and the king is holding scoops of ice cream Oh this one is so cute: this one has chocolate soft serve on it I just got this for kicks Omg this one is holding a spoon! Oh I saw someone eat this- it's like a massive sundae that I think you need at least 5 people to share and it's got mint chocolate chip Ice cream bar! This is really cute aside the fact that some of the printing quality is a bit crappy But yeah, just a cute little souvenir from Okinawa Lastly is a little gift I got for my friend who loves Snoopy There is the Okinawa Surf Shop here First up is this Snoopy surfer with the 'Okinawa' written on the back Next we also got this retro style plastic mug which says 'Snoopy Surf Shop' It comes in pink, white and green but we really like how this vintage green looks on this cup The owner was also really nice and gave us a selection of folders to choose from. So I chose this one for her So that concludes my little Okinawa shopping haul, so let's go get some breakfast New tee, new outfit Okinawan Donuts This donut shop serves 'sata andagi' You can watch them fry the dough and eat them fresh from the kitchen Sadly we can't do dine-in so we ate them right away tapioca ball The tapioca one was the best in my opinion! Pallet The coffee shops in Okinawa are quite limited Good food but average coffee Cape Manzamo We are now heading over to Manza beach because none of us are hungry. But I just wanted to show you guys Victor's first graphic print T-shirt. You know he loves his white, plain T-shirts but he's actually wearing something with a print on it this time! All of us decided to split up and do our own thing after the beach Since we don't have kids, we decided to queue at a popular restaurant haha Nakamura Soba Couldn't leave Okinawa without trying their soba noodles It's too hot for al fresco still We got our ticket and waited 30 minutes We just took pictures across the road- it's so pretty! seaweed soba with pork belly + fish paste The soba is green from the seaweed that's kneaded into it Drove back down to Naha and got my cards exchanged at Blue Seal A&W Makiminato You can order and get food delivered to your car But I'm too full for burgers rn so we just took a pic Nothing is better than free parking Okinawa Prefectural Museum & Art Museum 2 months ago we did northern Japan which is Hokkaido And now we're doing all the way down south here in Okinawa Currently we are at the Okinawa art museum Which kind of reminds me of Toronto's Aga Khan and Desa Studios/ Potato Head in Bali because the architecture here is just stunning when the light comes in. Check it out! We came here just to photograph the building We waited for the sun to come out Worth coming here if you love Brutalist style buildings! Adan Okinawa Our last dinner together We all wore Orion, Blue Seal and Spam t shirts agu pork shabu shabu He's very proud of his chopstick skills The eldest drew an Orion t-shirt 😂🤌🏼 Day 5: blue seal ice cream for breakfast Goodbye, Okinawa Nothing to shop or eat after security except for the one Blue Seal at our gate salty milk soft serve hope you guys enjoyed south japan! see you next week :) Hello Auntie Sam, and Uncle Victor and Auntie Carmen Thank you for planning such a wonderful trip in Okinawa It wouldn't have been fun without you We had a glorious time there
