League is on the air tonight it is all on the line we play for the Lombardi trophy as it'll be the AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs taking on the NFC champions the San Francisco 49ers alongside Charles Davis I'm Brandon Garden but Charles we don't like to throw around the word dynasty Loosely but for the Chiefs it applies I mean they're looking for their third title now in five years and with the way this league is configured now it absolutely applies I think you're totally On Target remember they lost a Super Bowl in there too so to be back for the fourth time in five years in today's NFL that's pretty incredible meanwhile for the 49ers they were one of the heavy favorites to win the NFC and they were able to get it done and now they look for that elusive sixth Super Bowl title remember after going five and0 in their first five appearances here they've lost two straight Super Bowl 47 to the Ravens in New Orleans and Super Bowl 54 to Kansas City in Miami they'd love to start another streak like they had in the 80s when they won four Super Bowl titles [Applause] [Applause] all right guys all right and we are underway here in Las Vegas and we will not have a return so the first drive of this Super Bowl will begin at the 25 so here's the first drive now for the 49ers and they will be led out by their seconde quarterback there weren't many bigger stories last season than pie who's officially the most famous Mr relevant of all time won each of his first five starts and almost guided his team to a Super Bowl he's really forced the team to re-evaluate its plans at quarterback because he looks like the real [Applause] deal what a pickup this man was last year it's Christian mcaffrey and not much to speak of call it a one yd gain up to the 26 the last play got just a yard here's second and nine from the [Applause] 26 they stay on the ground maccaffrey again and not a whole lot there maybe a yard to the 27 I know that speed is the Hallmark of today's NFL game but the key to good rushing defense is still having your linebackers set the edge an early tough test on the opening drive this is third thir and eight here's P forced out to his left and per finds a way to move the chains he slides to a stop and he's got the first down opted to run for it the decision a good one picking up the first getting 14 yds on the scramble certainly not a positive sign if you're the D coordinator and you see your guys give up that space so early in the game third down that's when the clamps are supposed to come come out but his ability to create things with his legs makes things difficult this time they'll throw it here's pie and this one incomplete threw it down at the feet of his receiver well if those at home were wondering if we were going to see some offense in this Super Bowl I think your answer was right there incomplete but they take a big shot early like the script if they get the big play early so much the better but if nothing else they send a message they're going to be aggressive in this game second down here's pie to throw that's complete it's Brandon a he get six that'll leave him with third and four in search of four yds here to pick up the first down herie from the gun on third down that is caught and he'll be brought down with a first down as the tackles made at the Chiefs 34 yd line 19 yds that time for number 19 we got to like what you're seeing from this offense here on the first drive a nice sustained series to begin the game and it will continue after picking up another first there would you say the word methodical comes to mind I love the execution I love what they're doing on this drive they're controlling the ball controlling the game controlling the clock on first down this is maccaffrey and he Maneuvers up the middle for three and it's second down that's just a pile of bodies there and that's when you kind of find out who's a tough guy right who can stand up and make a play it was only a three- yd run but for both sides they had to walk away from that fiing like okay I can stand up when the going gets tough in here throwing on second down it's pie and he will find his man Samuel and he'll be brought down with a first down as the tackle made at the Chiefs 15 yd line it's a pick up of 16 there and it'll lead to a new set of downs and he's already got two catches on the opening drive they know he's going to be a handful and sometimes you game plan for that offensively you want to make sure that guy touches the ball and sometimes it just happens naturally and then you change your game plan when he has the hot hand you keep going back to him because running routes with confidence as the game goes on give him nine on the carry that time and they're set up with a second and one the impressive opening drive continues and just space being created by those guys up front we're seeing this the same way aren't we we are seeing an offensive line as this game gets started as it starts to unfold that they are dominating the line of scrimmage just a gain of a yard but it's going to set him up with a first and goal what a luxury to have a guy like this you can not only spell your starter but can come in and keep drives [Applause] going a chance for the first score of this Super Bowl here's first and goal they'll try to run with maccaffrey and across the goal line into the end zone touchdown 49ers Christian mcaffrey a 5yd touchdown run and the 49ers are on the board first here in this Super Bowl and that caps off what was really a balanced opening drive for them Charles they work in the rushing game and the aerial attack and they end it with a touchdown strong in so many ways wasn't it partner their ability to throw it and run it and accomplish their goal they've got to like the way they they started this ball game [Applause] so after the main field goal by Moody he's back out to kick this one away no run back here down to a knee and this drive will start at the 25 time to see what Patrick Mahomes can do here with his first possession the quarterback out of Texas Tech getting set to lead this KC Chiefs offense there's nothing the League's best quarterback didn't achieve last season Super Bowl trophy check MVP award check League leader in yards and touchdowns check how does he top the season he had last year I don't know but Patrick mahes he usually finds a way Mahomes will lead the Chiefs up first and and 10 at their 25 ydd line they'll try and start this drive in the air and that one drops down incomplete good coverage there forc the ball free and it's second down no surprise at all they're looking for the big man early in this one the only surprise for them he couldn't hang on to the pass an incomplete pass leads to Second and 10 from the 25 momes going to throw man open that's Marquez Valdez scantling and he's going to get a good gain of nine here up to the [Applause] 34 a yard all they need but it's third down they'll look to pick it up with McKinnon and he will have a first down here at about the 40 it'll be a gain of six that time as it moves the chains as well plenty of things to talk about here partner but to me their defense gave up a touchdown on the first drive how about how their responding coming back that's a big third down pickup to keep their Drive [Applause] alive throwing on first down is moms that's complete it's Travis Kelce and they're well past m field just a yard or two shy of the 40 nice play for Kansas City picking up the first 18 yds that time the first drive here and the first time that we've called a big tight end's name but I I can assure you this Charles it won't be the last no it won't because when he gets going now it opens up opportunities on the perimeter because that'll draw the defense towards him in the middle of the field now your wide receivers are get involved as this game goes on he'll get this down to the 38 I feel like I could see what he was thinking on that carry wanted to follow that big tackle through the hole ended up only getting four yards on the carry I think he had designs on that one being bigger second down and six now now here's momes he'll drop this off to Pacho and this will move the chains again as the tackle is going to be made at the 49ers 22 two yd line the Chiefs have got the passing game rolling a bit and another first down well they've certainly done a nice job spreading the ball around on this drive this time he gets it out to his back and it's another nice play and another first down they' got the defense on their heels a little bit they're reacting instead of being aggressive and making plays and now a throw on first down there but it's incomplete well they certainly did a nice job there picking him up out of the back field and then running stride for stride with him that's good coverage and it led to an incompletion second and 10 they fake the give now Ms it's Kelce on the ground and he's brought down but not before a really nice stiff arm to create a little space that'll leave him with a third and two coming up they got eight yards there nice play call a little bit of play action right there if you can get those linebackers a freeze for just a split second that's usually all the room you need in order to get it to your tight [Applause] end on third down it's Pacho and they needed two they could only get one fourth down well they picked up a portion of it but not all that they needed now that leads to a decision on fourth and one let's see what they decide to [Applause] do and this may be a big early turning point in this Super Bowl they're going to go for it on fourth down here able to find the open man that's complete and he's got this inside the 10 to the nine before he's out of bounds so give him the first down first and goal after a pickup of four and the decision to go for it pays off looking to throw is Ms a dump down to McKinnon touchdown jerck McKinnon a nyd touchdown grab and the Chiefs are an extra point away from tying up this Super Bowl well we know he has decent hands out of the back field that's the first time Charles they targeted him in the passing game and it pays dividends and I love the design too because they kept him in the back field made the defense think run first before they swung him out of there and you're right with his hands they might want to throw it to him just a little bit more extra point by bucker Is On Target and we are tied at seven each team's had it each team is scored 7 s here as the kicks away this fielded right at the goal line and up to about the 26 yd line just across the 25 and San Francisco gets set to go here a lot of time for this unit to game plan on the sideline after that drive that they watch The Other Side just scor score but remember last time they were out they scored as well we'll see if they can seize that momentum right back and they have had a lot of time to cool off from reaching the end zone the last time so have they been able to keep themselves mentally sharp and into this game even though they haven't been on the field and you and I both know one big play though gets them right back up to that level throwing on first down but this one winds up to be incomplete I think he's got to be careful not to force anything into coverage right there there weren't really any throwing Lanes but the best part for him he's got second and third down to fall back on an incomplete pass on first down that leads to a second and 10 birie now a quick throw there but it's going to be incomplete well they approach this drive with a lot of confidence after their last one ended up as a touchdown but incompletions on their first two throws has them huddling up and trying to figure out a big play here on third down to get their momentum going again now they face a third and 10 after backto back incompletions birie now to throw and he takes a shot on the release as this will be incomplete partner we've got ourselves a ball game and those guys on defense they came to play slipped up on their first series but they're definitely settling in now and letting it be known the points won't come so easy again on fourth down the ners Trot out wishnowski to punt the football that's pulled in at the 32 pushing through the contact a pretty good punt but a nice 13 yd return Kansas City taking the field for their second drive and they'll be looking to build off of a nice drive last time a drive that really relied on the quarterback making good decisions Distributing the ball well Distributing it accurately keeping it away from danger a really nicely Run Drive but now the defense what adjustments do they need to make in the passing game pass rush pass rush pass rush whether it's the guys up front or maybe you bring additional guys but you've got to disrupt the timing of them throwing the football we'll see if they can disrupt it here a throw there but that's going to wind up incomplete oh nice defensive effort there providing the hit as the ball got to the receiver separates him from the catch and normally he's a short-handed [Applause] Target so now second and 10 after the incompletion on first down to throw it's moms pitch and catch here to Travis Kelce they get six that'll leave them with third and four they gave up the completion there but this is what zone defenses count on catching the ball and not much run after the cat [Applause] catch from Midfield here's Ms the throw for Tony is intercepted picked off by Fred Warner and he's just across Midfield and down at the 49 yd line boy he had to fit that into a pretty tight window over the middle and Charles I think they were in zone defensively weren't they they certainly were a nice read on your part and sometimes the quarterback isn't fooled between Zone and man sometimes just fooled by the type of Zone that he sees because often times those linebackers will vacate and run downfield with receivers in this case he played a pure Zone that was in the wrong spot for the [Applause] QB [Applause] mcaffrey running up the middle and good space to operate there as he takes this down inside the 35 yd line 15 for the ners there and a first down well they're making an effort to get the ground game going tonight so far it's working I like what we're seeing from the offensive line they seem to have the leverage going in a control things and reestablishing the line of scrimmage moving that defensive front backwards but also like what the runners giving us too it appears that he's been waiting all day long to get out here and take off brought down by Willie gay it went right back to him but he pretty much had nowhere to go on that play yeah the previous carry looked pretty good that one maybe he was a little tired I don't know yeah maybe he should have tapped out and had a second back come in and maybe make that run who knows back to throw pie and that's going to be knocked away and incomplete and with it incomplete the Kansas City defense tough to throw on there and now it's fourth down a that's going to hurt a bit because they needed to come through with a completion there now drive this started with great field position is facing fourth down so pie off and Moody on for the 49er field goal it'll be a 49 yd attempt from the left hasch and this will split the uprights it's right down the middle and they take the lead here now at 10 to S so Charles they get to them with their first turnover of the game and then make it hurt a little bit extra with a field goal and anytime you give the ball up what's the first thing a coach tells his defense don't let them score off of this you've got to put out the fire in fact in 2021 that's what one NFL coach termed his defense the firemen go out there guys and don't let him put some points on the [Applause] board so following the touchdown here's Moody back out to send it away Montell Washington on the return from his end zone and tackled at the 21 yd line so so a net negative there of four yds out now the chief's offensive unit ready to do battle again been a little bit of an interesting start the first drive for him Charles they had the passing touchdown the second drive he threw the interception so we'll see what this third Drive of the ball game bring yeah it's kind of the tiebreaker isn't it I mean that's the tough part for them and for him because yeah things went really well in that first one not so well on the second one he wants to get back to what he did to get this game going nice burst there as they'll get about seven that time on the first down run first play of the drive let's give credit all around excellent blocking but the guy carrying the ball he was the finisher a really nice run second down and [Applause] three throwing now is Ms oh and his early struggles continue here's another one intercepted picked off by Fred Warner second straight drive now here Charles that have ended with an interception and I just wonder because I don't think it's going to Rattle him necessarily I also wonder if it's going to nerve him a little bit does it lead to another one or does he find a way to pull it together and become sharp again San Francisco set to go on offense once more and they'll have good field position here following the interception and a chance to build on their lead as they start with a first and 10 [Applause] so here's a first and 10 at the 38 in motion left goes a tight end they'll give it up to mcaffrey and this will go as a gain of seven as he gets it to the 30 yd line good yard yage there on first down exactly what you want get yourself set up to keep making first downs keep the clock running and if they're smart you're starting to milk the clock no hurry before you run your second down play ball on the 30 now here's second down and three now pie and that falls to the ground incomplete a nice job of bodying him up defensively and now it brings up third down it's another zone defense it looks like it's open for possibilities but they did a nice job patrolling the middle of the field and forcing an incompletion so the incomplete pass on the last play and that leads us to a third and three shotgun now with pie he's got his Target that's complete and he is going to have a 49ers first down as they get five there on Third and two and Brandon from our time in college football where receivers weren't running the traditional NFL route tree one thing they did learn find open areas find soft spots and set up and catch the ball and I think we just saw that there yeah we saw that indeed picking up the first now he's going to swing this one out to his running back and he'll be out of bounds just inside the 25 yd line call it a gain of three on the play and it'll be second down birie sets up to throw again and this throw incomplete and the defender all over him that time but it's going to lead to third down he did a fine job there of not hitting him before the ball arrived and I've got to tell you you can often mtime that play because of the angles of approach when you're going to get him sometimes you panic as well and think I've got to be there right now out instead in this case timed it perfectly and knocked it free and now the third down throw incomplete as well and based on my math they've only converted one time thus far in this game so you can see the frustration starting to come out a little bit third Downs they've been a problem for them all game they've got to start becoming Solutions so py off and Moody on for the 49er field goal he hit his first this one from 40 yds out and it's pick here is good and the lead stretches to six here it's 13-7 well they already had the early lead then they get the interception Charles and now they add three more with the field goal yeah they're in control of how this game is playing out so far you mentioned the early League now they're expanding on it getting plays on both sides of the ball a winning recipe if they can keep this up [Applause] so here's Moody back out there now to send this one [Applause] away and he'll be stopped up at the 25 and now here comes Kansas City they're sort of seeing themselves spiral out of control let's see if they can get things back on track and this is where the coach is walking that line of being calm and really being firm with his team had one tell me once you know when we're were having a tough patch this two sh pass this two sh pass and fin we kept having a rough patch he said but you got to do something to make it pass and that's what they have to do they've got to get some control back get themselves reasserted and calm things down see if they can get calm and reassert themselves here a lot of tight ends just use their size and their strength try to occupy some space and kind of body people people away and catch the football but not this guy he's a refined route Runner makes me wonder if he took some dance classes in his background with his footwork momes to throw on second down got an open man it's Valdez scandling momes to nvs there for the Kansas City [Applause] first [Applause] they run it with Pacho from the gun and he takes this up right near the 45 yd line a solid run on first down gain of seven leaves him with a second and three that was a good run and it got to the second level and what I mean by that is that's where the linebackers usually play first level being the defensive front last level being the secondary but the strong safety position end up making the tackle and often times times we call them a hybrid combination defensive back combination linebacker we saw the linebacker make the stop seven yards there and a first down exactly what they needed right there because they needed to use the ground game to take some pressure off cuz the quarterback's been struggling a little bit so from inside Niner territory now this is first and 10 at the 48 yd line here's momes to throw his throw incomplete fair to say hasn't been his best game throwing the football but also not getting a lot of help out there either yeah you kind of you nailed it pretty well you know he's got to throw it better got to get more help obviously one that should have been caught they've got to find a way to bring those those two elements together so they can make some progress in this one second down McKinnon and he's going to have this pretty close to a first down as the tackle is made at the ners 39 nine yds not quite enough and they they'll be left now with third and one that was a good run probably right on the edge of breaking into something really big so the defensive guys right now are talking about okay what can we do to slow him down before he truly gets [Applause] started they'll run out of the gun with Peko he's not going to get there that won't even be close it was blown up in the back field that'll make it fourth down after a loss of one just a simple run play there on Third and one but this D was up to the challenge and stopped them bring it up fourth down boy a call like this certainly tougher to make in a Super Bowl but they'll go for it on fourth down momes now to throw work in the middle of the field and he's got him man complete and he's going to get this one down to the edge of the Red Zone a big pickup there 20 yds as they convert on Fourth both sides were holding their breath there on that fourth down play and the offense can breathe a sigh of relief and both knew exactly where the first down markers were you know the defense is trying to guard those sticks and try and keep people in front but somehow some way those guys found the way to pick it up throwing there but this pass is going to wind up incomplete maybe just a lack of concentration there as he couldn't haul it in and when you're going across the middle like that you know he's running that drag route you are conscious of all the body and the traffic in there but let's face it if you're going there you might as well come down with the football and absorb whatever else happens after that on second down here's moms and he's wrapped up taken down back at the 25 Javon Hargrave the defensive tackle getting in there for a loss of five well this has been a pretty sizable Drive they've had some success finally the defensive coordinator found some success of his own I think he just simply said enough of that okay they've moved the ball well we need to force the issue from our end and that's exactly what he did flush to his right and he slides and covers up at the end as he's going to be able to pick up decent yardage decent gain on the scramble to six but now it's Fourth I thought he did a pretty good job there to get back what he could but let's face it that sack on second down talk about throwing a wrench into the works it certainly did and he did everything he could there trying to pick up some positive yardage and he did but not enough so on fourth down momes off Harrison bucker on for the Chiefs field goal it'll be from the right hash and it'll be a 36 y bucker kick here is good and that will cut the lead back down to three at 13- 10 so they are able to end that drive with three points in this one possession ball game and ideally you want to end every drive with points most quarterbacks to tell you let's end it with a kick right a pat that's number one field goal you'll take punts you really don't want to do that in this case they'll take the field goal and get prepared for the rest of the [Applause] game after the field goal here's bucker to kick it away the football will come out to the 25 as McLoud will not return it out comes Christian mcaffrey with the rest of the offense he's over 40 yards here in the second quarter been nice and effective for them hasn't he he has definitely been dependable and really shouldn't underestimate what he's getting done here because anytime you're on a pace that's going to approach 100 yards you've really done some damage in an NFL game and now he's looking just to add to his totals H going to lead the 49ers to the line first and 10 at their own 25 yd line he'll start by handing this off to maccaffrey threee that's to about the 28 second down coming up look all any running back wants is a little bit of room a little bit of space in order to maneuver but he also understands how difficult it is for his offensive line up front so if they give him any space he realizes his job to make more out of it than what they give him picks up three on that carry second down and right back to maffre and only able to get two here stopped at the 30 Brandon one thing about BL they really confuse offensive lineman at times and what you have to do is lock in on the guy right in front of you if you don't you saw the end result defensive tackle end up making the play the offense on third down tonight they've hit it 50% three of six to this point this will be third and five here's pie oh he'll look downfield for KD and that will be incomplete well they weren't scared to let it fly but it falls to the the ground and brings up fourth down a that's some good closing speed there defensively because that looked open for a minute but that's great work with the ball in the air never gave up converged on his man and broke the play up wishnowski on to punt as he sends this one away that's taken on the [Applause] 25 the Chiefs offense about set to begin this drive and they had a long drive last time but they had to settle for a field goal and I'm sure that's how it felt to them settling they probably should have gotten in the end zone yeah not out out joy right because that's what you get when you put the ball in the end zone but there are benefits to that type of a long drive your defense gets a chance to take a break adjust a little bit bit maybe get themselves ready to get back out on the field and play a little bit better so they'll take the benefit even though they wanted the six points yeah maybe wor down the other defense we'll see momes going to throw they'll set up the screen to Peko and he takes us beyond the 35 before going out of bounds they get 11 back on that one it leads to third down and that was yardage that they needed there after the sack on first down they didn't get all of it back but now they look at third down as a manageable situation one that they have a much better chance of picking [Applause] up now momes and he is caught and they bring him to the ground just shy of Midfield two big plays in succession and Kansas City's on the move has a pretty good throw on the Cur route there third down and they pick up a First Defense should be aware for that right they should be aware but it was so hard sometimes easy cuz cuz when they when they sell that route really well you think they're going up field and they curl back show their numbers to the quarterback and complete the play meanwhile thees throw taken in by Valdez scantlin the Chiefs will use the first of their timeouts as they get the stoppage with just under 50 seconds remaining in half number one some [Applause] and again it's [Music] moms and he's going to find his man out of the back field that's complete come on you better do something that one's on the former Patriot Joe Toney let's go so following the hold they're in a bit of a hole here with a first and [Applause] 20 now here's momes nowhere to go here he lost the football and now this is scooped up by the 49ers and his guys are going to get the football at the 37 yd line the pocket collapsed around him I know we talk about it a lot but a QB has to have that six sense doesn't he he really does and I know of one team at one point was training their quarterback with that time frame and anytime he didn't get rid of the ball within the the right amount of time it would blow a horn or blow a whistle to show him this is what that time is just what you're talking about training him to understand this is the amount you have make sure the ball's gone didn't happen in this [Applause] case [Applause] line of scrimmage the 37 on First and 10 following the fumble recovery pie and his throw is incomplete when you see passes knocked down by those guys I call the frustrated fullbacks the linebackers you know that in their Zone coverage they were able to drop see the ball thrown and react to it very quickly here's second and 10 throwing here pie stiff armed in and able to break one tackle but then quickly brought down but a nice little gain the 49ers now going to use the first of their timeouts as they get it right at the 302 Mark of this first half [Applause] here's third and [Applause] three perie looking to throw able to find the open man that's complete now San Francisco going to call their second timeout so that means they're down to one remaining here as we head toward halftime let's go baby perio look to throw again here back to Deo Samuel for consecutive catches and the ners are going to have a first and goal coming up as the tackle made at the three yd line another first down as he went right back to the same well this time for for 17 [Music] yds and with Just 4 seconds left in this first half a timeout call so with four seconds to go in the half here's the field goal unit onto the field from the right hash at a bit of a tight angle and his kick is good and that extends their advantage to six it's 16- 10 so able to add on to their first half lead here Charles forcing the Mis CU with a fumble and then turning that into three points yeah more than happy to accept any mistakes the other side is willing to make no problem you turn it over we'll take that and we'll use it to expand our lead [Applause] so still time for the kickoff here one second to go in the half as much and welcome one and all to our beautiful new downtown Orlando studios for this EA Sports halftime report we saw the former allpro Christian mcaffrey up to his old tricks in that first first half he wound up finding the End Zone on a touchdown run to help give his guys the advantage here at the break all right coach thanks yeah both teams likely to make some changes in what's been a closely fought battle to this [Applause] point these two teams sat through a longer than usual 30 minute wait but we're back in Action here in the Super Bowl Washington now brings this out and only able to get this to the 19 so probably should have opted for the Touchback the Chiefs ready to go on offense to be again Corner number three and they Trail here in this Super Bowl but fortunately for them Charles very much still within striking range yeah things didn't go exactly the way they planned in the first half to me they appeared to be a little bit tight made a few errors they normally wouldn't but of course this is the Super Bowl so things get a little bit heightened in that regard but I think they have to feel a little fortunate they're only down what they are here starting the third quarter and he'll get this up to the 34 yd line so they'll get the yardage on the run and get 15 more for good measure yeah that wasn't too difficult to spot you heard the sideline erupting and the flags came out almost [Applause] immediately and now it's first and 10 a big mistake especially when you factor in the personal foul yardage shotgun sna to moms he's got the connection to Mo this will be stopped about two yds shy of the marker 8yd gain second and two Brandon Perfect Defense in this situation would have meant that there was an incompletion that would have picked it off okay so they gave up the completion but I really enjoyed watching how the defense stayed in sync stayed in great communication and as he dragged across each Zone you see him pointing communicating there he is and they passed him off to each Defender ended up making a nice play even though it was complete throwing again on second down but this time it's incom complete in the early days of the NFL you could easily blame these drops on maybe some uneven or uncertain Lighting in a stadium not anymore the lights are pretty good yeah they're great here at night but his second drop indeed not a good look [Applause] they'll try for the First with Theo and he'll be brought down it looks like right at the 40 a three yd gain and enough for the first down I haven't met a football team yet that runs the ball successfully that doesn't talk about having an attitude to be a running football team right you got to be able to put your nose in there smell where the first down sticks are and get there on first down they go back to Pacho and he'll just plow right into a host of tacklers nothing there at all and it'll be second and 10 and he got off the end there very quickly to make that play yeah that was almost like the bullet train wasn't it I mean just zoom quick quick quick and what a terrific play holding them to No Gain officially nothing on that last run they'll try again second and 10 more the motion man he'll get an opportunity with it on the touch pass and he'll get inside the 40 to maybe the 38 yd line that's a nice job there defensively being able to diagnose that little touch pass they saw it coming converged on him before he could get much out of it they'll need to get it to the 30 for a first this is third down to throw it's Ms buying time to his left and I don't think he got there no he's short by maybe a foot maybe call it fourth and inches that looked great when he first took off because in my mind there was room to run and he had the marker in his sight but I certainly didn't expect him to close so quickly and neither did he they got to him just in time and now that forced him to make a decision with this fourth down call from here this would have been a 48 y but no they're going to go for it they'll run for it with p jeo and he is going to have the chiefs first down by a good couple of yards as they get three there on Fourth and inches just a gain of three but they'll certainly take it as they convert on fourth down and the fourth down run successful now they look to pay it off on first down working from the gun Ms and that is incomplete now the coverage a little too good there and it's second down now it's been clear in this match up which side has been the more physical one it's been this defense and here's another example on that last play so now they'll come up on second and 10 once again from the 28 they go play fake Ms this is caught and he's brought down after a very nice gain that'll be marked as a 27 yd pickup I think he has to be saying to himself how did that not wind up a touchdown remember he just need the tip of the ball AC cross the plane it's not going to get there but they're going to be set up in great shape with first and [Applause] [Applause] goal now gray and he will take it on in for a Chiefs touchdown a touchdown run there from a yard out and the Chiefs are an extra point away from taking the lead in this Super [Applause] Bowl bucker now to add the extra [Applause] point it's up and good and they take the lead by a point 1716 a 10-play drive that time and it winds up with the Chiefs hitting [Applause] P now after the touchdown here's bucker on to kick it away ml now on the return and he'll be brought down right on the chalk of the 20 here's a look at the 49ers offense as they make their way out for their first possession of the second half and Charles it feels like we're set up for a good second half here came out of the locker room one score game now the lead has already changed hands well this offense they've got an opportunity right now to take that lead right back yeah and it feels like you're going back and forth almost a little bit like a tennis match right and we're just you know our heads just keep moving which side has it which side's going to score how are they going to go out doing it a little bit of a challenge for each side trying to match each other playaction now pie the First Catch of the game for George KD and they'll get eight out of this before being stopped at the 28 well it's time for them to be good teammates right here and what I mean by that is possess the ball for a little while get at least two first downs give their defense a chance to settle down a little bit after they give up a touchdown line of scrim the 28 now as they come up on second and a couple shotgun hand off now to mcaffrey and they'll take him down at the 31 yd line two yds good enough for a first not too many more ideal situations in second and two in order to try and pick up a first down they ran it and picked it up line of scrimmage the 31 now on First and 10 back to throw [Applause] pie and that's going to be incomplete they decided the opportunity was there and launched a deep Ball but he was unable to get away from the defender couldn't create space couldn't uncover at the end of the route and that one winds up incomplete line of scrimmage the 31 as they line up second and [Applause] 10 up the gun maccaffrey and he'll get this up to about the 40 59 yds rushing for him now in the ball game and there we saw one of the downsides of blitzing during a run down because sometimes you get out of your gaps you don't fit the Run quite as well because you're headed towards the ball carrier with abandon third down and one they'll try and pick it up with mafre and he will have first down yardage as he's brought down out at the 41 I like his Focus there because he wasn't thinking about breaking that one big all he thought about was I need one let's go get that ended up picking up [Applause] two two first downs have them up to the 41 now for first and [Music] 10 playaction and now here's pery to throw it throwing quickly there but it's incomplete this could be the start of a nice stand from this defense now after getting walked backwards on this drive come through with another one here and you have them staring at a third and long and that puts the defense in a position to dictate to the offense third quarter action in Super Bowl 57 here's a second and [Applause] 10 from the shotgun to maccaffrey and he'll make it only to the 43 a gain of two you know that old expression it's not my night it hasn't been his so far I don't know if the legs are a little bit heavy sometimes s having to hang out all day and play doesn't exactly play to your advantage but it's been a tough go for him and every time he looks up somebody's there defensively that was the same case on that play he's got his Target that's complete and he'll be brought down with a first down as the tackle made at the Chiefs 29 yd line that gain on third down good for 28 press coverage on the outside and for Defenders that's the ultimate risk reward if you take the risk can you reward Yourself by keeping him on the line of scrimmage but no not on that one got the step on him now it's just a matter of laying the ball out there for him to go get it so now first and 10 in Chiefs territory as they're down to the 29 yd line birie that's going to be caught touchdown 49ers Deo Samuel 29 yards and the ners have reached gained the lead in the second half of this Super Bowl so a very strong first drive in this second half Charles as they've turned that halftime deficit into a third quarter lead and they were pretty purposeful there weren't they measured in their approach but boy they executed awfully well moving the ball down the field and now this is right in Kyle Shanahan's wheelhouse he'll go for two [Applause] here peral throw for it and he will find the end zone here and the lead moves up to seven and of course on the two-point try had the option to run or pass they pass it there and it works felt pretty straightforward didn't it an open receiver balls put on him two points for [Applause] them [Applause] [Applause] I'm coming I'm coming so after the main field goal by Moody he's back out to kick this one away and he won't return this one he'll go down to a knee and they'll start at the 25 and Kansas City's offense Now set ready to go this drive here beginning probably with a pair of motivated groups remember the offense scored a touchdown on their last time out looking to repeat that in Charles's defense they were very frustrated after giving up six the last time on the field and frankly it's just a battle of wills in a lot of ways because you know they're both motivated they both game planned for this drive and they both have specific outcomes in mind to me it just comes down to who can execute better and which side can step up and assert its will over the other momes throw caught by Tony and they'll get it all the way up about five yds shy of Midfield great way to start the drive 20 big ones in a first down an ex- teammate used to tell me all the time I hate experienced quarterbacks because no matter what you really can't hide what you're doing and I think that right there he knew right away where the blitz was coming from where primary guy was going to be and he ended up going to a secondary Target for a nice game I was just going to ask you that wasn't the primary target and he's so good at that isn't he I think he knew right away that he wasn't going to get to his primary guy I think he read that as soon as he got to the line of scrimmage knew where the pressure was going to come from and said ah I know how to beat that and that's what he did third quarter of a tight football game as we come up on a second and [Applause] 10 here's p jeo once again and a gain of four gets him right to the Midfield strike on any running play that's called they're always hoping that it's going to break big and go the distance but when you get a nice game like that you're able to do so many things anyway you can come back and run essentially the same play again continue to move the ball on the ground or you can decide to throw the ball now because usually you have the defense back on its heels he's got his running back out of the back field and and he will have a Chiefs first down as they're able to get the third down conversion they certainly had success throughout this contest getting him the ball in the passing game and there he picks up another first down whatever they saw going into this one they've been able to capitalize on it and no adjustment has been made to take it [Applause] [Applause] away on first and 10 here's Pacho down the numbers there he goes and all the way in for a Kansas City touchdown Isaiah Pacho 42 yards and the Chiefs have a chance to tie the ball game here in the final minute of the third I guess when you look back on it it was just a matter of time until he popped a big one like that and you know at halftime you and I discussed it they had done a nice job on him in the first first half but there were a couple of occasions where it felt like he might wiggle out of traffic and take it to the house finally here in the second half that got done extra point by bucker Is On Target and that will tie us at [Applause] 24 [Applause] nothing separating these two sides 24 all our score as he sends this one away the football will come out to the 25 as McLoud will not return it Debo Samuel and the 49ers back in possession here pretty good game for him so far I guess he still got time here to make this a great game but so far he's been solid I like where you're going with that because it has been pretty good but there's always that hint that things can really escalate for him and right now they they feel like they're somewhat keeping him in check but he has found the end zone once but boy he can explode at any moment yeah when you hit that in zone once you want to find it again don't you yes you do hungri you get greedy in a good way her's throw pulled in by KD he'll wind up getting just a yard and it's second down he's been quiet today in the passing game just his second catch yeah and people have to come up with schemes to limit him and and what a lot of teams do they'll double him you know use a linebacker underneath a safety over the top sometimes they'll just take a corner maybe their third Corner if he's a bigger guy and put him on a manto man to try and limit his touches just keep mixing it up give him different angles different looks like a good boxer does and he'll be taken down but not before they work it across Midfield that one good for 26 and a first down I tell you what a lot of those mid-range throws have been available because sometimes teams get too concerned about the Deep ball they leave too much space in front of them and these guys have been taking advantage so far we are through three quarters of play here from Allegiance stadium in Super Bowl 58 we'll return with more after this break you're watching the five yds there on the pitch and catch and it's second down you can see the time and effort and thought that they put into their passing game because it was evident right there it looks like a simple pitch and catch but you and I both know that they have planned for this and worked hard to make it happen on second down maccaffrey and he's dropped right at the 40 gain of three some of the most unselfish players on any football team defensive tackles because we ask them to just eat up blocks and allow other people to make tackles but when he can make a play himself as we just saw there that's a big day big third down a field goal from this spot 57 yds as they hope to move it a little closer they'll try and run for it this is used CH and boy he is very close to a first down but from where they're spotting that football he's going to be a foot or so short let's give credit to the defense they got plenty of bodies to the point of attack and stuff the run but I just wonder if the offensive line let down a little bit knowing that the big guy was getting the ball and it's expected him to pick up a first so here we go it's Jake Moody now in a big spot this to break our fourth quarter tie and he has got from 55 yds away that was never in out and they have taken the lead here in the fourth quarter you talk about a big kick under pressure in the fourth quarter I mean that wasn't like a 33 y that was long distance not only does it show the faith that they have in him but also remember if they'd missed that one they're giving up the ball near Midfield so they had to be very confident that he was going to put that one through the [Applause] post [Applause] so following the touchdown here's Moody back out to send it away and it'll come out to the 25 as he will not attempt to return here's the Kansas City offense now as they get set to take over and this could become a career defining drive for some down three fourth quarter of the Super Bowl this is where the Legends are made in the National Football League as they begin this drive first and [Applause] 10 they go playaction now Ms and when you thrown as many interceptions as he has in this one you definitely start getting a little hesitant to throw the ball out wide because that's Prime pick six territory that time he made sure the only guy was going to catch it was sitting in the third row so following the incompletion here's second and 10 from the 25 from the gun it's Ms they'll check this one down to Pacho and he'll be out of bounds across the 30 yd line they get six that'll leave him with third and four and we see another pitch and catch there to the running back this position just continues to evolve they become just as critical to the passing attack as a lot of receivers tight ends because their ability to make people Miss in the open field can really generate big plays for an offense and this pass broken up and the contact well time there and now fourth down that's an excellent job right there on third down like any defense you never want to let him get anything started and that would have been a first down instead you saw the contact on time no penalty and before this drive could get wings it's Fourth Down on is the punter Townson as he gets this one away and no return on this one as the fair catch is signal for and taken so a change of possession here on the punt and the Niners will go on offense first and 10 Deo Samuel trotting out with his offense to start this next drive and I know that they've double teamed him a couple times but not a ton whatever they're doing isn't working he's up over 100 yards we'll see how they adjust and when they do that they weaken their defense in other places as well and how many times have we done games where we've seen a guy have a big game like this but it's usually not by himself is it usually it opens it up for other people to have big games as well they give him four yards there it'll be second and six well they certainly got dented with that first down run so now they've got to be back on their heels a little bit as a defense second and six a handoff left maccaffrey and he'll be upended here after a pick up of three getting it out to the [Applause] 25 they'll come up now on a second and long after the hold another run this time maccaffrey brings it up just shy of the 25 showed some of that quickness there on the Move 74 yds rushing for him now to this point the recipe is pretty simple I think right do give your Superstar the ball continue to feed him yeah don't overthink this one right make sure he's touching the football but you're also counting on his intelligence and playing the game as well if it's not there don't force the run just make sure you hang on to the football and keep the clock ticking work in the middle of the field and he's got a man complete and he is going to have a ners first down as they're able to get the third down conversion he's been the go-to guy they needed a big play there on third down win his way it worked out doesn't matter whether they've scouted it or that they think he's going to get the ball he has a knack for finding his way open and completing the connection so they'll come up first and 10 now from the [Applause] 33 maccaffrey running up the middle and able to break one tackle but then quick brought down but a nice little gain it's a seven yd carry to set them up with a second and three if you can keep getting gains like that Charles with the lead here in the fourth quarter I mean keep running it right no doubt about it but what the offense coordinator has to do is understand they're going to continue to stack the line of scrimmage what runs do you have in your Arsenal that'll work against a stack box and continue to move the [Applause] ball now pie this one into the hands of K the tight end in and KD going to have a 49ers first down as he'll be brought down just shy of Midfield it's a gain of eight and it'll wind up moving the chains two first downs have him up near Midfield now on First and 10 out of the gun Pie gets this one to use check and he's going to be taken down right at the line so that'll be no better than an incompletion and it'll be second down that was a simple throw and catch but even with that completion zero yards gained so they're behind schedule on down in distance I think they were hoping to get it to him he could make a man or two Miss but that window closed quickly and looked like some movement there let's get the call that flag accepted and it backs the offense up a little bit so after to the Penalty heading in the wrong direction second and 15 peral set up to throw it here that ball caught Brandon aayu and he'll be brought down with a first down as the tackles made at the Chiefs 36 a good pick up there of 20 yds these guys certainly are not hiding what their intention is they're absolutely showing it they're definitely not going to sit on this lead here in the fourth quarter so now first and 10 in Chiefs territory at the 36 they'll give it up to maccaffrey and he edges forward but only gets a pair of yards out of it and it's second down they suspected that it was a power play up the middle coming at them and boy were they right that defense got downhill in a hurry and limited them to just a couple on first down under four to go now as the clock runs and they come up on second down now Samuel and that play is blown up losing yardage back at the 35 a yard in the wrong direction makes third down tougher third down and nine I like the idea to mix it up from time to time cuz let's face it you can't be predictable but the execution was a little lacking on this one right they might want to go back to the drawing board with that call here's p now on Third and goal a he had him man open but he missed him and it's incomplete so on fourth down out trots the kicker in a big spot here this to swell the lead to six and his kick is right there it's good and that will double their lead as it's up to six so it's another field goal here he may need to ice his leg after this one that's now five field goals converted in this game alone yeah get the trainer they're going to need this guy and they've needed every single one of the field goals he's made too if they're going to get out of here with a win I say he gets a game [Applause] ball so here's Moody back out there now to send this one away Washington now brings this out and he'll be stopped right around where he would have been had he gone down to a knee maybe a yard shy of there at the 24 and the Chiefs now getting set to go and we're at the time in this Super Bowl where look they need points and they need them badly trailing here in the fourth quarter as they begin this drive first and [Applause] 10 throwing now is moms this will be caught down field by more and they work this well up field across the 45 that one goes for 24 yds and here we are in the fourth quarter partner and watch them drive for what would be a go-ahead touchdown and you and I both know this is where you need a quarterback who can keep his cool back there not just for himself but to keep the rest of the team relax too on first down Ms and he'll go right back to Moore complete again and he's able to get this to the 40 yd line before he's out of bounds that connection seemed to work out okay on the first play of the drive why not go right back to it and once again this defense is left without an answer as they surrender back to- back first downs all three timeouts plus the two-minute warning here's first and 10 and that is incomplete he couldn't hold on through the contact brings up second down easy to tell who they're targeting on this drive he caught the first two passes but then this time unable to hook up but I don't think that that stops them from continuing to go back to him do you I mean they've got they've got a plan they're trying to execute it after that second catch I saw him in the Huddle he's said hey let's go back one more time didn't work there another throw on second down and this one incomplete as well just a little beyond the reach there of his receiver that's probably one he wishes he had back he wishes it had been seven on seven in practice or maybe even routs versus Air because that's a completion and he makes what 9.9 times out of 10 just missed that one and again it's Ms and a quick throw here that's complete and he'll go out of bounds after taking it a little further down inside the 40 he got out of bounds that's a good thing but still short of the first and now since this brings up fourth down the defensive play caller grab your nerves because now you don't want to be so amped up that you give them a first down by getting out of your lanes but you also don't want to just lay back and let them have it easily now momes got to have this one and he's brought down can't do anything with a football it's a sack and a turnover on Downs the Chiefs tried it but they're turned away on fourth down and the 49ers are going to get the football back so the failure to convert no doubt really hurts but this one's not over a good chunk of time on the clock and the timeouts yeah not only do they have the timeouts as you just noted they're going to get an extra one with the two-minute warning and that's going to help him big way so in a sense they have four timeouts in their pocket the big thing stopping them on defense now they can't let them get a first down and make them use their timeouts and get a fresh set of downs they've got to stop them right here and if so theyve still got an opportunity herie going to lead the 49ers to the line first and 10 at their own 44 they'll try and burn some clock now with maccaffrey and a good pick up there he gets him about six up to Midfield 89 yds rushing for him now as he has been tremendous all day long fourth quarter down to the final two minutes and we've got a one- score game so they come up on second down if they can get another run like we just saw we likely put it into this thing here's Samuel and he's going to have to protect the football and take his lumps here at this stage of the game as they stop him behind the line [Applause] this is a big third down and you'd have to think we'd see a timeout right away if they can't stop him here a handoff mcaffrey running right and he'll lose yardage on the play back at the 45 yd line and quickly we're going to get another stop here with 154 left as they call the time out [Applause] defensively here comes the 49ers punter now as he's on to kick it away this is away but boy headed straight for the sidelines and this will carry out of bounds where are they going to spot it now at about the 18 yd line it looks like here comes momes and the Chiefs down by six a little under a minute 50 remaining a touchdown could win the Super Bowl as they've got a first down Fus on what we got to do here momes to throw it finding Kelsey I don't know that those medium fiveish yard gains are going to do it right now probably should have dropped it right yeah that way you save more time on the clock but I know receivers they think they can catch it and break a tackle and turn into a big [Applause] game here comes second down at five momes and he can't get a throw away he's taken down he'll wind up losing a full nine yds here on the sack now it's third down my man it's been a rough night for that offensive line and it's only getting rougher five sacks now that they've given up in this contest so far it feels like the witching hour out here doesn't it okay stupid question what's the witching witching hour yeah the witch he can't get a throw off he's taken down what a huge play at this point in the game multiple Defenders get to him there and that is the sixth time he's been sacked in this ball game the decision made for him they've got to go it's Fourth Down moles he's got this to the rookie Rashid rice and he's going to get out of bounds with the first down so an ideal set of circumstances there they move the chains and they save that final timeout so instead of the incredibly obvious choice of trying to punt it out near Midfield now they left their defense with no Mar for air no zero and I don't care how much confidence you have in your defense I don't care if you say hey I'm going to be aggressive cuz those guys can picked me up you really put them in an impossible situation because at at the least you're giving up three in that situation right so I I would have punted the ball out of there and giving them a little bit of a [Applause] cushion down to a knee for the 49ers this one about to be on Ice the Chiefs quickly now going to use the last of their timeouts as they'll stop it with a little over 30 ticks to go in the football [Applause] [Applause] game time for this one final knee to put a bow on this title bout I don't know why we did it but we went to their final walkthr for some reason and what did we see their last play in walk through was taking a knee and celebrating winning a Super Bowl they want that visualization they did it for real yeah they just scripted it out defense can't stop the clock and they can watch the final seconds tick and the San Francisco 49ers will Hoist the Lombardi trophy as Super Bowl champions and their remarkable season ends in the most remarkable of ways they get to put next to their name Super Bowl champion and they can't ever take that away can they NOP that lasts forever so good to see the emotion when it's all said and done you see the hugs you see the guys sharing the collective happiness makes me want to carry you around a little bit on my shoulder ERS to celebrate the Triumph and congratulations to them a fantastic season
