hey it's andrew huang you're about to hear four different producers takes on creating some original music starting from the exact same sample my guests in this episode are sarah the instrumentalist hallman and tilton park and here is the sound that we're using today [Music] [Applause] [Music] this episode sample comes from epidemic sound who are sponsoring this video they have a ton of high quality music in all different styles that you can use in your content royalty-free what is that thing epidemic is giving you 30 days free so check out the link in the description and also all the guest producers today contribute to the epidemic library so let's see what they came up with hey what's up i'm tilden park i'm an independent rap artist and producer i'm really excited to be here with you guys today it's my first time ever doing anything like this so shout out to andrew into epidemic sound for setting this all up and making it happen let's get right to it when i'm making a bee i like to start with the drums i feel like it's one of the most if not the most important element of your beat [Music] i don't even know what this is called but any beat with this it's a vibe come on now so what i ended up doing was reversing the sample chopping it to my liking gluing that chop together then i double time that loop added some little ultra boy to bring the pitch up i filtered out most of the high and low frequencies and here's what the sample sounds like now after that i open omnisphere to find a patch that i like and play this melody then i took it down an octave and added a filter [Music] then i decided to add my 808 [Music] then i went back into the sample and retrapped it so that i can introduce some more elements and i also added a lot of automation for this section [Music] [Applause] then i took my original chop of the sample i added a little bit of reverb i added some other automation and some side chain so that it sounds like this here's what that sounds like in context [Music] when i was happy with all of my instruments and sounds that i added in i decided to use logic's touch feature to draw in all of my automation so that they sound a little bit more human hopefully you guys like what i came up with i don't get a chance to sample enough so we should do this more often [Music] oh instant vibe got a nice atmospheric pluck in the background love all the [Music] panning like a little old school [Music] really fun riser and faller that vocal shop in the background is so nice [Music] super clean mix nice there's a lot of space but it still feels really rich [Applause] tire straight fire melody and effects really fun edits in the background like every instrument has these little rolls it feels like it's so tight nice the breakdown loving the 808s [Music] i like that offbeat feel to the vocal filtering [Music] say it awaits slamming hard [Music] yeah this is epic [Music] love that melody [Music] there's so many cool sounds going on like panning around my head wow super atmospheric awesome it really gave me like this silly bounce hip hop trap vibe i really like that shout outs to you [Music] [Applause] [Music] hey guys i'm holman i'm a future music producer for epidemic sound so this was like the initial id that i had from the sample [Music] i basically just took some saturation some eq some ott reverb and kickstart i created this lead from the vocal [Music] sounds really weird but when you put some effects on it we also have some bass [Music] this is just some presets from nexus and asylum some drums so for the intro i have this dark voice pad it's the the voice sample pitched down and i just looked it [Music] this is also the voice sample loaded into here just a tiny tiny bit of the voice sample and i use this plug function here to make it like really short and packy we have those strings we also have this atmospheric sounds i also made using the vocal sample just pitched up the vocal stretched it out a bit had a lot of effects on it we got this voice stutter pad without the effects it sounds like this pitched it up and we got some serration some oddity on panamatic more eq eq and the growth speed that makes this stutter we have some chords playing organs and an arpeggiator also following in the sample melody i loaded the voice sample into through the ground laser and i came up with this and throughout the track i also have little feels i made with the voice as well so yeah i hope you like it and enjoy peace oh we got the strings already out the gate so cinematic those strings are beautiful it was intense [Music] i love that string sad sound great it's just like the hero reaching the mountain summit scene [Music] this wasn't what i was expecting at all it's like way um happier all of a sudden it's a whole vibe i love this [Music] hey in the club really tight mix everything's clean and snappy oh yeah the change out in the drums yes we're back to like this epic feel wow okay going crazy with them [Music] this is crazy and impressive bro [Music] a lot of fun little chops of the sample coming out here man bro this is dope this is really really dope oh super fun little ending there wow just leave us like that it's just going to leave us with just that intensity and just end that's amazing that was really dope victor [Music] what's up everyone my name is sarah the instrumentalist i've been composing lo-fi hip-hop and electronica dance music with epidemic sounds since 2018 so the sample initially sounds like this [Music] pitched it down [Music] i took like this part and resampled it went up a three semitone so i got these two sounds and i found out that this was in a d minor so what i did to start off the song i went to go search for any samples that have a d minor in it so i went through my native instruments collection and i found a one shot i loaded up those cords into the roland sp4 4 just so i can add some extra vinyl simulation some glitches so the next part of course is the drums the next thing that i added was the base the wrecking backer base uh it is a contact instrument it is a solid bass sound a little funk i like to add like some extra textures a little bird in the the far distance the next cool part that i added throughout the song was an arpeggiator [Music] so the next thing i added to the song was some vocals okay yeah i decided to mess with some some words and i started saying like can you come outside to play adding some of the effects that are on this device and i got this the last thing that is there are some really cool effects got some laser sounds yes if you guys want to license this song as well as my other beats make sure you go to epidemicsound.com peace okay before counting is already dope [Music] this is like walking around la with headphones on music drums feel very jealous i love that dirty snare drum dirty in the best way it got so much weight and soul to it i love that really like atmospheric [Music] oh your eyelids in the background are an amazing touch too makes you want to rap that is beautiful [Music] man ultimate vibes right there [Music] [Applause] it feels like it's hypnotizing me in a way it's really cool yeah these roadsy arps are killing me what'd you say i gotta run that back hold on what did you say back to the beats [Music] yeah this is it's tight this is like palm trees and blue skies man i could start my day with your music always survive i could water my plants we could do some yoga we could go outside and chew love it beautiful really peaceful release serene your music always is a vibe nice i can still hear that cowbell going good job sweet [Music] when i first got the sample from epidemic i thought there was a lot of potential but i didn't get any immediate ideas off of it and then it was just one of those great situations where the very first thing i tried was a vibe and gave me all the inspiration i needed for a full track i was just messing with the formant and drive on altar boy [Music] sounds awesome and if i turn that off [Music] you can hear the original audio which is just like a slightly sped up chopped version of the sample there is this funky section of the track where i just used the sample and just sprinkled little chops of it around along with a drum beat and this really funky baseline that i've laid down [Music] i've got this pre-chorus section where i stacked two different octaves of the sample and kind of faded between them and i'm sure i was also doing a little bit of yeah formant stuff as well [Music] here's one of my favorite tricks so that's most of the sample warped to a short space and then looped a bunch of times in a row you put a pitch envelope on that also you could do distortion and then just to accentuate the rhythm of it automate the volume as well and you get a really fun original sounding riser that no one would ever guess is from the sample but oh well the final way i used the sample was in the drops where i used it to create a chord progression i don't even know what this dialog box is called right the transient envelope turned down and uh no looping here and so it just automatically gets chopped in the second half i pitch it around a bit then we get that altar boy on there again plus some distortion so when i came up with that i was like okay now we're into drop territory i wanted to make it really high energy so i amped up the drums for that section layered in a few serums [Music] and then uh for like that little sound in the break before the drop i put my baby now since this sample was all cords i didn't really find a way to use it as a melody part so i found another vocal sample that i just used in the occasional spot to add a little bit more kind of like lead i was also hanging out with virtual riot right before i started working on this so he was top of mind and i decided to grab a bunch of his um drum loops drum fills from his sample pack chop them up and pitch them around a bit but the reason they sound so cool is because they're from virtual riot [Music] if you listen to this main part again [Music] right at the end there it sounds like a pitched up voice going what so that made me think what if i download a bunch of samples of people saying what and then it's a different person saying what in a funny way at the end of each of those loops which i tried and it wasn't as cool as i thought it would be in my head but then i had all these what samples so i still used a couple of them what what i love that one one other tiny thing i did with the sample some of the voices drop out and you do have just a single note for a fraction of a second so i chopped that out pitched it up an octave and two octaves i was thinking of like the coins from super mario and then i put a grain delay on it and an ott i don't know it was fun and it's from the sample and no one will know it's from the sample speaking of not being able to tell what the sample is i decided to make the intro and the outro um both the sample with the effects fading in or fading out so so i thought that was fun to just reveal the sample but also to kind of go full circle where the track starts and ends with that very first chord in the sample so that's my track i tried to explain this all without revealing the overall thing because i think it's just a really fun listen that i hope you'll enjoy [Music] [Music] wow i'm in the club wow [Music] funky back to the voice sample okay okay a nice warble on that bass line like this part of the song a lot [Music] that vocal looks nice [Music] wow a little bit [Music] that was a nice fit this is loud [Music] that's crazy i gotta run that back oh yeah the voice coming back yes that was amazing yeah that's what's really crazy man that's what the inside of your brain sounds like oh oh okay thanks again to epidemic for making this video happen you can get 30 days free if you use the link in the description check them out for a great way to
