[Applause] [Music] hey everybody it's karen from waterfall acrylics coming to you from cicada central in northern virginia i am yelling i'm hoping you can hear me one just flew by one has landed in my hair they're everywhere this isn't even as loud as they're going to get because it's still early in the afternoon i'm hoping this picks up i'm pretty sure it will but i thought i'd come out here so you guys can hear they're flying everywhere we had to brush or take a broom to our decks every couple of hours it's uh it's crazy but i want to show you the dry results from the last video and then i'm going to go back inside and paint i was hoping to paint outside but you'll never hear me because it's beautiful day here's the dried results from the last video here it's gorgeous i haven't decided on an orientation yet i'm out of here i'm going back in because it's craziness i'll see you inside we'll get started hey guys so today is just little canvas today little canvases because i want to uh kill off the leftover paint um from last night's pour from the last video it's the next day i can't believe how fast that 12 by 24 dried um so real quick a review of the colors since you didn't really see them in that video so two cell activator colors this is prussian blue mixed with a little bit of black oxide um just to make it opaque and this is amsterdam's deep gold uh we have i have all the brands today i swear so to amsterdam's this is pebeo studio acrylic sings blue green greenish blue i can never remember blue green iridescent that's that guy um i have a matisse fluid acrylic this is southern ocean blue right here really pretty and then i have some golden burnt sienna i'm not feeling that color though so we'll see i have some golden indian yellow hue mixed with a little bit of pearlex pigment and a shade called pumpkin orange just to give it a little bit of sparkle they're almost identical and then i have a uh this little pigment piggy color this is caramel drizzle so what is that like five different brands something like that and then earlier i had to run up to home depot to buy paint and on my way home i dropped my car keys under my seat and when i went to fish them out i found a random bottle of golden kernacredon violet under my car seat and i was like score i'm so excited so i have that as well that color is the new one uh the rest of this is from last night i just made this one up fresh um i definitely want to do one of i have three cradle wood panels i definitely want to do one in the same order as the last video and then mix up the order and then do one and incorporate the carnacron violet so that's the plan let me make sure i put the bigger sticks in the cell activator so i wouldn't get confused and i feel like i really didn't chat very much in that last video either i was all serious and really into painting and didn't really talk that much for as long as that video was so i could tell you a little story while we goof around today um did it went on a recent trip to los angeles which was fun and you'll hear more about that later in the summer but i gotta tell you about my flight on the way home because it was strange and i seem to be a magnet for weird people i do so let's get started first so this is an 8x8 cradle but this is balsam wood and because it's balsam wood it doesn't really have the grain that's going to raise up so i'm not going to worry about um prepping this anymore because there's no grain to speak of to raise up if it was wood wood i would definitely throw down um [Music] paint two coats of kills wood primer or some gesso on that guy but we can skip that step and let me get one under my belt and then i'll talk well i can talk while i do this so i'm coming home and i live in virginia so it's um and i had it wasn't a direct flight so i flew from la to detroit which is the long leg so it's like four hours maybe a dollop more and late getting on the plane just about everyone else is seated and get to my seat and i'm in an aisle seat and there's a woman with a baby newborn baby uh sleeping i'm trying to remember my order from last night see i'm gonna multitask this is dangerous and i think i did i need to put the dark colors on top so i think i did let me do this well i still remember so i'm in the aisle seat and there's a woman with the newborn baby sleeping who was sleeping in the window seat and the row in front of us was completely empty so i tell her like hey i'm gonna sit up there so you know when your baby wakes up you can have the whole thing all to yourself and she says oh thank you so nice i'm like no problem and so i move and of course at the last second the travelers show up and i have to go back to my seat i'm like oh well i tried no worries so i fall asleep for a while wake up i lose the cap to my can of coca-cola that i'm drinking [Music] and and you know it ruled under the seat and you can never reach anything it was just a goner so she gave me the cap to her water bottle to put on my coke bottle and of course i promptly dropped that too and lose that and we had a good chuckle over me being butterfingers and her baby's still sleeping and i was right with the world the plane lands see i was gonna do something crazy here and do the dark blue on top with a dark blue cell activator which is usually you put if you have a light color you put a dark cell activator and vice versa i'm going to put my prussian blue saw activator on top of this anyway we land and uh i'm giving out my tote bag that was under my seat and she says oh are you an artist and i said yep and i tell her a little bit about my trip and her baby is still sleeping and uh people are starting to deplane in front of us and she gets up or i get up and and she's she wants to see the art so i show her and then she goes oh i'm an artist too and she takes her baby's leg and swings it in the air and i go oh my god and people around me go like that and it turns out her baby was fake and i was just like what hold on a second let me blow this out let's see what this looks like low fan where [Music] let me center this a little more i don't like how off-center this is one and two i better throw a little bit of house paint so it sticks um yeah so this woman with her life-like fake baby led me to believe for four hours that she had a real baby because she was swaddling it the whole time and i'm i was just like who does that and she was all proud of the artistry of her baby doll which i get i get that part but like to lead me on and let me switch seats was just weird i'm like i just didn't understand why she wouldn't tell me right from the get-go like or maybe she was trying to fool everyone i don't know but it was weird y'all very very weird and i i always seem to attract weirdos in situations like that like the people like if you say hi how are you like saying how are you is a mortal mistake because then that you end up hearing the whole life story that always happens to me too all right let's blow this out [Music] so i'll give that a second i feel kind of rusty at these i haven't been doing their traditional blooms in a while we'll let that collect in the middle let's grab i want to use this this seems kind of thick hold on one sec i'm going to grab a better tool okay that's better got my spatula and let's just i have my sides tape because i do plan to put this in a floater frame but i always just like doing this for fun i don't know why it just makes me happy just to put paint on the corners just to help things cool quarters corners to help it fly off a bit something like that like in the middle very much i don't think it's going to be dead center but that's fine by me you know how i feel about symmetry and let's give this first one a little spin wow love it done there's number one cheddar stopping right there i didn't have a terrible amount of um [Music] cell activator i mean puddle oh gosh i can't talk you know pillow you know what i mean house paint um i'll show you all close up when we get finished i'll hold this one up for a second so that was the order there so this is all going to be about the order of pink so i think i'm going to use these same colors and we'll do the reverse and put the dark colors on the bottom and the light colors on top and see what happens i love this blank part here i just think it adds to it rather than the whole thing being busy and the colors have blended they're super super pretty so let me just hold this one up for a second so you can see it up close like this sorry for my uh lights there i'll go turn those out so there's the first one throw that guy on some cookie cutters that's a keeper i feel and there we go turn up the lights and let's grab another do another eight by eight this time we just taped on the bottom rather than the sides so we can let the paint run over and get our pillow down while i was in california i had the chance to dork around in malibu and there is definitely like a subculture there like the surfer subculture and um i wanted to go to this one particular state park because it had like a hike that i found in a book that um went through like a nature preserve and a marshlands and all that kind of stuff and then you ended up on the beach and parking was really limited like you had to wait in line and basically wait for someone to leave and while i was you know hanging out my car waiting for a spot as people the the cars in front of me there were it started off there were four cars in front of me and they all had their arm out the window like all four drivers i'm like what are they doing and it turned out when somebody was leaving um they would stick out their hand like give me and i'm like what are they doing like is it a drug deal and what it was is if you still had time on your parking ticket you gave it to somebody coming in which i thought was super cool and super nice right i'm thinking of my order now so i'm gonna do the opposite so i'm going to do the light blue so when it was my turn some guy some surfer dude was leaving and i put up my arm and he rolled down his window and he was like yo bro i'm so sorry i only have six minutes left on my ticket like no worries and i was gonna call him like bro or dude which was like wasn't me at all so i decided not to say that because you know i'm some like bourgeoisie uh middle-aged lady from the suburbs it didn't like roll off my tongue so um what do i do now i'm trying to debate i guess i'll go with the caramel drizzle but anyway the next car gave me their ticket and it had two hours left on it so i got to park for free pretty much which was super cool i was happy about that and i got to walk around dork around malibu it was beautiful and quiet compared to here no cicadas out there you pop that bubble ah all right so i guess i do black and gold because i don't want to put gold on top of that or maybe i do no i don't let's do the prussian blue and then the gold i don't know about the gold next to the indian yellow but here goes anyway let's see what this looks like same deal with the hair dryer wow completely different look right completely i'll just do something right there i don't want to fill up the whole thing with cells right there i don't know if this one is going to live you all we'll see we'll put a i put a couple right there we'll put a couple over here don't mind my head just very gentle little puffs right there to get some cells and let's give that a second i'll do my usual while we wait anyway lots of cool and fun things happened on that trip but i'm not at liberty to talk about it for a couple more months so you'll hear more later i don't know if i'm liking this i guess we'll spin it out and see see if you like it spun out all right yeah let's give it a spin and see what it looks like that's a pretty hard spin oh shoot i have my sides to consider uh i think it's a keeper i like the other one better i'm just a sucker for the deeper um like the deep blue but it's pretty i mean i got the peacock cells everywhere i do and i actually like the white around the edges i like the um blank center i'm just waiting a second for it to all drip i'm gonna have to help out the sides a little bit so i have coverage or though i'm tempted to leave it like it is and have part of the wood showing because that's actually kind of fun i think i will so there's number two i'm just gonna do one maybe two more and that's it so not a terribly long video today grab one more couple more cookie cutters and we'll change up the order [Music] one more time for the next one and um then throw in some of that um quinacridone violet for sure just to mix things up oh yeah that's that's pretty the more i look at it it took me a minute to warm up to it for sure let me hold this one up so you can see it and you guys can tell me which one you like better so there's this one interesting colors very fall like no specs of him over here right number three there we go let's try that again all right burn sienna indian yellow the quinn violet some caramel drizzle gold cell activator and a blue black cell activator all right how many times have i done this little six by six better to have to go multiple times on a little guy than a you know 18 by 24 right [Music] oh something all right i don't want too many in the middle kind of like this color combo though i even like it with the white very fun very very fun give that middle a second my sides are taped yep this looks happy i'm liking it how it looks let's give it a go let's move this out of the way yes much much better much much better i still didn't get off the one corner yep there we go that's a keeper that's the keeper right there let me find a home for that guy i think i have just enough paint for one last substrate and we're done for the day i do love my eight by eights i really do but that's an adorable little six by six chunky great color combo got some negative space i like my white on the edges i like the uh black showing that's this is a cute one that's cute as a button that goes on somebody's bookcase somewhere where's that guy and last one is an eight inch round this is a good canvas of frederick's canvas no staples smooth back and i hope i have enough house paint for this one i'm getting kind of low this is going to be close yeah it's going to be super close be perfect to run out right here so this is going to be i have to do this one in one take right one take so what are we doing i'm going back to the first color combo that's my favorite that's my favorite of all yep i'm going back to that one i'm gonna put the yellow of all the ones i've done wow i'll tear off the caramel drizzle bye bye and i'm going to use um to make up for the lack of the pillow because usually i would like that to go out to about here i'm going to make bigger petals and kind of cheat so i have enough paint for my substrate and then what the light blue yeah so that's why i'm making them such a large puddles with petals to kind of cheat kind of cheats there there's a gold cell activator a lot of it to cheat and a lot of the black too just a little trick i picked up along the way all right last one give that middle a second see i don't even really have paint to grab that's how close i'm cutting this one you can stick a little bit right there i think i need a little puff in the middle yeah just a little bit just in one spot i don't want to do the whole thing give that a minute the cicadas are slowly quieting down for the evening and goodness i hope i don't lose the um the yellow because i really like that just waiting a second for that to collect where i gave it a puff so if you want smaller cells in the middle don't wait just go ahead and give a spin or a tilt or whatever you're doing because uh if you don't wait there's nothing for it to uh spread on because you uh there's no pillow underneath so has nowhere to go so the cells tend to say stay small but um if you want them to spread out along with everything else you should wait for it to raise up a bit all right giving that a good hard one oh wow we got some big old cells what do we think of this one i think we keep it because i'm out of house paint and out of most of my colors let me see what this one looks like kind of busy for my taste like a little on the busy side this one's a cell lover's delight though for sure it's just all cells like that i think my the first one was my best one let me know what you think which one you like let me uh find a cookie cutter for him move my tub out of the way and get you guys down for a close-up hey guys i'm back with the dry results of these they dried super super fast i want to say in about like 12 hours like i couldn't get over it i don't know must be the weather a perfect combo the weather and humidity but they dry fabulous here's the first little one this one is really grown on me see if i can do this without wiggling and see what i mean like i pulled the tape nice clean size and it just looks so well they just go together so well i might stain this um a slightly darker shade to match that gold in the middle i think that'll look nice and then of course that'll get resin so there's the first one here's this guy this is the best one i think hold on let me pick it up is this one wow it's just so so vivid good grief and this one too i had um you know taped the sides made a nice clean edge i might have to throw this one in a floater frame after it gets resin but super vivid holy moly really happy with that guy and then we'll skip the round i think that was last i'm out of order and then here's this one this one has grown on me a lot because look at it it's like a peacock you know strutting its stuff showing off for the females like wow really happy with that this one i let the paint run off the sides kinda but i'll resin on the top and the sides of that one that might have to that might be floater frame worthy as well and then finally the one i was kind of like yeah it's fine it's a lot of cells it's this one here and it also i'm just it takes me a while to like warm up to my own art it really does but um it's spectacular like holy moly another one so this is um so you pulled the tape so it's all nice and clean this will get resin as well but they don't i can't find anybody who makes round floater frames because i would certainly put this guy in it those cells they're just they're just great oh my goodness so at least the um even though it's cell city the the color layout makes up for makes up for it in terms of composition so super happy with one two let's see one two three four there they all be let me know what your favorite is okay guys that's it for me today i hope you guys didn't mind me getting my bloom on every once in a while you know you get the bug to do them uh going back to a big deconstructed bloom in the next video i'm gonna do it slightly different instead of puddles maybe uh make some wiggle lines or something i don't know we'll see um please join our fluid art addicts group um me and jen neil run that on facebook please
