#314 That Doesn't Look Safe The Life of an Owner Operator Flatbed Truck Driver

[Music] all right Mount Vernon Illinois my favorite stopping spot we're at the J truck stop Walmart right over there we loaded yesterday insulated pan are more roofing it's not quite as the same as the other insulated panels we dropped our big insulated panels off yesterday morning but we loaded these yesterday oh these are pretty basic I take one strap pull this way one strap pulling this way and you can put one strap in the middle bundles but I prefer to put two just a little bit more but they don't seem to move around these are the free edge protectors that I get when I haul those big insulated panels they give you these I ended up getting 24 of these so that's why I used yesterday and I probably have about a total of 50 because I have them so the whole bunch other tucked underneath the trailer but if you look in the corners right there you can see it kind of hard to show up but what I did want to show you was last night over at Walmart I bought this thing here and it's an expandable like paint stick I paid 6 bucks for the stick and it's expandable and then this here is a paint roller that I took the roller piece off so it's just this piece of metal because I was trying to come up with an inexpensive tool to put the edge protectors up on top of the trailer so I came up with this right here as you can see now I don't have it extend it out but see how that works oops you see how that works so that would go up there like that and of course I'm doing it with one hand so it's a little of course I'm doing it with one hand so it's a little a little more difficult but you got the basic idea so four so four I paid two dollars for the little roller and six dollars for the pole so for eight dollars I got a little tool to put the edge protectors on alright today's gonna be a busy day we've got a about two hours to go to deliver this and then we're gonna run back up the st. Louis and pick up some skidded coils so talk to you [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] all right we're in 500 feet then right at 8:07 newsroom Street where we're posed to be somehow - impossible man I don't speak hey Chris this is Daniel Watson marshal driver hey I got your insulation hey I'm down here I guess it's like the main entrance I'm looking at stairs going up where it's a bunch of flag poles and everything weird word you yes oh you're killing me cuz I'm sitting in this parking lot alright yeah problem is I gotta figure out how to get turned around in here okay go ahead okay I am not in a good mood I talked to that guy yesterday if this is where he told me to go now he's telling me this isn't the right spot and I'm going to get turned around so I have a 75-foot truck stuck in this little tiny parking lot trying to get turned around now [Music] believe [Music] [Music] Oh [Music] all right let's see if I can do this without too much shaky camp I worked out some of my aggressions rolling up straps so I'm in a little better move so what they have is a metal rod that will go down underneath the foam there and then they lift them up so they'll lift up four bundles at a time and see see that metal rod there just picked up they just picked up and they usually they'll just slide it on the trailer but his stuff stick sitting off the back of the trailer there but you can see how they're picking it up and they'll pick it up here just this sec okay they got straps done and getting ready to pick it up so there goes so you can see how they picked up four bundles at once there alright let me back out a little bit oh wait so there's the crane there goes and they'll put it up on the roof there into shaky go set a denim and then they'll come back and get some more all right I'll check in with you when they're done talking all right this Fonda looks a little scary see what happens they've been having a big discussion about how to pick them on the love but that does definitely look a little scary see there's a little tiny bundles the other ones what I'm gonna do and set it down all right we'll see what happens all right we'll see if they got it worked out here so instead of picking up all of them at once what it still looks a little scary it still looks a little scary [Music] [Music] all right yes I got some good apples but now they're gonna pick them up state of picking up the old stacked and then trying to pick up half the stack but the problem is the bar won't go through there what they're gonna do I don't know how to gonna do alright this might take a while I'll check back in with you in a minute alright they decided to try to pick up all eight for those little bundles at once see what happens what I don't know what they're doing I think they're gonna try to reposition and see if they can I guess pick up for instead all right this is gonna be a while okay now they're just gonna pick up two at a time sorry about the shaky cam see where they go with that [Music] hi it's the same old thing now maybe those feet up looking alright we made it over here to Granite City pick up our skinny coils we only have a little over five hours left on our 14 hour clock so I'm not too sure how that's gonna work out they don't look too busy I see one truck sitting waiting hopefully I don't know we'll get loaded we'll see how long it takes how many hours we'll have left and then you decide where we're gonna go or we're gonna get to definitely can't make it back to Louisville which I really really wanted to see what we can do we'll see how long this takes here inside fine let me go check in talk to you guys in a bit all right we're at the end of the day we're back we're back where we started we're back over here at Mount Vernon Illinois we got loaded I got load I got checked in loaded and tarped in one hour and five minutes I was out of there so you can't complain about that got out I had two hours left on my clock on my 14-hour clock for today so I need a shower I really need a shower pretty bad so I'm gonna go ahead and go get a shower here I got some fuel so I'm gonna shower and then we're posed to have this in Louisville ASAP tomorrow morning so it is now it's seven o'clock Louisville time so we can get up at five o'clock Louisville time and leave so that'll put us over there about nine o'clock ish nine o'clock ish Louisville time let's go take a quick look the tarp job is not one of my best because I was in a hurry to get out of there but it doesn't look too bad it's not posed to rain today or tomorrow so it should be bad let's go outside we'll take a look at it real quick and and see what truck definitely needs a bath as you can see all the mud so we got five five coils we only have 40 40 almost 40 1000 so for skidded coils we're pretty light because we only have about 41,000 usually skinny coils are in the neighborhood of about 46 47,000 so and as you can see when it starts getting warm out these buns use will start snapping pretty quick so I need to fix that the other side looks a little worse but as you can see I just kind of balled it up back here and it just threw a board over it so it works but I was in a hurry so I'm gonna go get a shower go get cleaned up eat some dinner call it quits and we'll hit it again tomorrow all we got to do is get this unloaded tomorrow and then we'll take a little break because we don't reload it until Saturday morning so anyway all right that's it I'll talk to you guys later thanks for watching bye
