how many know what this is say it out loud you're right but there's no car attached to it where's the car guys I wanted a car no I'm just kidding so I have this steering wheel the other day my wife and I we were traveling from West Palm Beach to Orlando which is about a two and a half hour drive we get in the car we're going and have you ever been in a car that starts doing this I'm driving it's two and a half hours we're five minutes in hey babe you don't know okay over there how many oh two and a half hours of that does not seem like something you really want to sign up for it's not enjoyable it's not something that relieves stress it's not something that says I want to get in a car and go drive in a car that's shaking uncontrollably but see what happened is when we got in our car we found out that the wheel somehow had lost and came out of alignment when I got in the car and on my way to Orlando the car not only was shaking but it was pulling one direction so when I would let the steering wheel go it would like shake and go off the road so I'd have to kind of try to correct it as much as I could but when something is out of alignment it's not fun when when I was driving the car I felt more stressed it was shaking so praise God it didn't feel like a massage chair it felt like I was hitting potholes nobody likes hitting potholes and then I'm going and I'm looking at my wife and I can't even have a conversation because I'm just too stressed out have you ever been there see an alignment just like we were in that car I think that same thing can happen in our life and that's the thing that I want to talk about tonight is are we aligned with what God has in our life in these banner' years not only are we aligned but I don't just want to ask the question of are we but how can we be more in line but not only with what God is doing in your life but what he is doing in and through us as the church in 1st Corinthians 10:31 it says this so whether you eat or drink or whatever you do do everything for the glory of God say there with me say do everything for the glory of God see many times I think you and I we allow other people to determine the alignment that we're in see we allow people to determine the direction our car if it's getting bumpy or if you're like me you get into the office and maybe you're having a decent day but then all of a sudden that one person in the office that always comes up to you and tells you oh you chose those shoes oh you were hanging out with her am I the only person that has that one person in the office anybody else or maybe our business owners for a second maybe you're in a business and you're allowing other people's success failures determine the alignment of where you think your company is going how fast you think you're getting there and how well that you're doing I want to encourage you that you do not have to allow someone else to take control of your vehicle take control of your wheel and determine your alignment so you're probably asking the question pastor Austin why do I want to be aligned what's up with alignment why is alignment important I think alignment is important because all of us have these things I like to call gaps when I was in college I played baseball right up here at UMSL come on I'm sold a couple of you thank God I'm not alone and when I was playing baseball we used to do this thing where they would sometimes allow I was a pitcher and they would allow pitchers to go into the field and we would have a simulated game which was every pictures like dream because we got to actually act like we were an athlete for once and so we would go out and we would fill these positions but we never had enough pitcher of pitchers to actually fill a whole baseball field at a time there was always one position that was vacant where we always called it we have a gap many of us we have gaps like we did when we were on the baseball field so what do you think the other team did it was a competition because at the end of it whoever lost had to run two miles and praise God do I look like I want to run two miles does it look like I had two miles I don't think so that's why I have a jacket on I actually wanted to wear black Paul was wearing black up here and I said praise God why didn't I wear black he looks so much thinner when you wear black I should have worn black but when we were on the baseball field so what do you think the opposing team or my teammates were doing to win they were shooting for the gap everything they did they aim towards the gap because what they had identified was that there was a gap but not only that there was a gap but between the gap that they could succeed where the gap was we have an issues with the mic check check one two oh praise the Lord can you hear me let's see if I can take this thing off for a second is it off now it is okay I didn't want to feedback so when they identified the gap they found that there was a gap and when they identified it they found that they could have success everybody say success see in life as we find ourselves getting into alignment the reason is is when we are in alignment there's three things that you can do with the gap you can identify the gap you can fill the gap and you can close the gap I think there's a thing though that was too many of us whether relationships business in church and serving and sewing we identify the gap of where we're falling short or we identify the gap of where we can succeed but then we don't do number two which is we're not filling the gap and then if we're not filling the gap how can we close the gap many of us are in a mindset of gap identifying but when if we can just align we'll find out that when we're aligned with the God the purpose that God has on you and I lives on a life as a church that we are not just called to be a gap identifier we need to fill the gap so there's two different types of people I want to talk about for a second there's gap identifiers and there's gap fillers maybe you're a maybe you're familiar with a gap identifier gap identifiers are this they're the other people in your life that tell you the gaps that you have your fallen short you're not making enough money too big or too small you're not qualified has anybody ever had a gap person like that telling you every imperfection you're like hello I have a mirror I can see just me okay other gap identifies you may have in business have you ever had this in in any business where somebody said well if I was the owner of this company I would run it differently if I was the boss I wouldn't make you do that I would give everyone bonuses I can tell you what that guy doesn't control payroll it's easy to identify the gap to see it from an outside perspective but can you figure this out this is what's key is when we finally get inside the gap and we actually find the intricacies of the alignment of why the gap is there that it actually changed our perspective of the gap see I think when we identify the gap as a church there are certain people out in st. Louis and Illinois and West Palm Beach in Florida and Royal Palm Beach that are saying I need a church I need something because I'm having a gap in my life where I'm missing something you're saying well why is this important pastor Austin because alignment is important because a gap is a real thing many of us have a gap maybe I even on the inside I want to ask you this question is why were you drawn to faith church you're probably like what gaps are you talking about we all got them whether we want to admit the gaps that we've had or that we currently have but here's the thing as Jesus is the ultimate gap filler it doesn't matter he doesn't say I called the qualified he says that I qualify the called so we have gap identifiers and we have gap fillers see I believe there's people in this gap that you and I are called to reach but without gap fillers like our Usher's like our greeters who give their midweek to show up early to say on a Tuesday night I want to make Church happen or our camera teams are our worship teams many of you who serve in a campus on a weekend or online I'm telling you gap fillers are important now it's sometimes easier to find the gap but it's it takes some action to fill the gap but this is why filling the gap is important and again this all runs up to alignment we're gonna go back to it I just want to give you the why about the what we're about to dig into the reason this is a why did you know 200 million Americans are currently unchurched we're the fourth most unchurched country 34% of the greater st. Louis area is currently unchurched 48 percent of West Palm Beach just the community not Palm Beach County just west palm beach is unchurched they say it's one of the most unchurched cities in America but this is why it is important that we are not only called as a church to identify the gap but you and I are called to fill the gap when we fill the gap ministry happens I want to tell you a story about a lady that serves on our West Palm Beach team and in her life when she was young she she was beaten she was told she was no good she was told she would never amount to anything something that I found hard to see because she's such a huge piece of who we are as a church in West Palm Beach we couldn't do what we do without her and many of you have been to West Palm if I said her name you'd know who she is and as she did that as she grew up then her father started to tell her she was no good then her family started to tell her she was no good they started to tell her she was ugly her own family this she developed an eating disorder and I want to tell you this when I pray and I think about it and I think why God sent us to West Palm Beach why he sent us to st. Louis why he sending us to Ferguson flourescent why I believe that we're called on line to reach more people why our television ministry is so impactful it's because God's looking for a couple people that say I want to be aligned with what God is calling us to do he said go ye into all the world and preach the gospel but I'm asking you this is we can do a heck of a lotmore is the church if we're aligned we've found that there's a gap and that's the reason why we need to be aligned but why are we not aligned because I guarantee you this the Bible so many times it says this there's a parable I want you to to read it on your own time in Luke 15 it's the parable of the lost sheep says that the Shepherd will leave the ninety-nine just to go after the one let me ask you this after hearing her story do you think she was worth going after let me go a little deeper do you think you were worth us as a church going after the gaps real the gap is in all of us the gap is surrounding all of us all of us have friends that tomorrow depending on how we share our faith to fill that gap could either go to heaven how it's a real thing I'm gonna get I've promised we're gonna get and have a little bit more fun in this but there's a real why of why we need alignment somebody say alignment mark 16:15 it says this and he said to them go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature he that believeth this baptized shall be saved but he that believeth not shall be damned how many of us don't want people to see that last part of that verse show of hands nobody wants to see somebody damned to go to hell I believe too many of us already have people telling us that on the highway every single day but just like the parable of the Sheep God's willing to leave the ninety-nine and go after the one and I think just as the church we need to have that same mindset nobody's too far gone nobody's too far away from God that we when we identify the gap identified the need in someone's life we as the church his fake church to say I want to fill the gap I want to be there for that person I want to show them the light because we are called to be that gap filler because that is an alignment with God what he is saying and he says it in Matthew 25 verse 40 he says as ye have done unto the least of these my brethren you have done unto me when we reach out to those people and fill that gap we're doing what God has called us to do he's saying when you did that for them you did it unto me I think there's nothing more important than knowing that your God is happy with what you're doing see we can't expect others to do what you and I are unwilling to do we can say man I feel like I'm a little bit out of a line in some areas I see people that maybe I could invite to church I see and I know that I'm supposed to be serving I've went through a growth track but my life is still something's missing I can't tell what it is but I know something's there see I can start to feel when my car is getting out of alignment but it's up to me to take action to fix it before it gets bad see too many times as stuff happens in life we point and say oh is God what you let happen or man look what the devil did but really sometimes you and I not taking action can cause things to happen in our life but if we would have identified it and take action when we identified the gap you and I can make ministry happen every single day I think that's why it's so important here at Faith Church or our team we talked about this thing called phalanx I think phalanx is important I'm going to tell you the definition here in just a second but I think it's important because I always tell our team I will never ask you to do something I've either never done or that I wouldn't be willing to do myself because I believe and I think this is important that you teach what you know but you really reproduce who you are so you as a business owner or you as a Christian or you as a leader in whatever you do I believe you're all leaders and every day you're leading at least yourself in your life your families your kids the people around you if you don't think you're a leader I would tell you yes you are there's people watching you how you live your life that you can only teach what you know but you reproduce who you are so flanks here at Faith Church we use this term called flanks and it basically means in moving in a formation in the ancient Greek warfare the definition I pulled up off of Google it says this is used to describe as a formation in the Greek text the flanks may be deployed for battle on a march even camp 2 thus describing the massive infantry in common Calvary that would deploy in line during battle they marched forward as one entity everybody say one see I believe that the devil is not afraid of a big church I believe he's afraid of a United Church in a line Church with a vision of Noah what we're called to do what we're supposed to do and we just sometimes need to remember today I'm your well st. Louis what is it Dobbs I'm your Dobbs Tire auto guy coming to telling you you came in for an oil change but today your car is just a little out of alignment when you leave today I'm gonna even fix it for free you don't even have to pay for it hello somebody anybody like free things but you and I we have to decide to be aligned standing on God's promises this takes action and Hebrews 10:23 it says this let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering for he who promised is faithful I love in the actual in the NIV of that and I love this it fits with the illustration of being aligned it says let us hold unswervingly you ever have seen somebody swerve into another Lane God wants us to hold unswervingly to the hope that we profess for he who promised is faithful I'm telling you in these banner years as you've already so many of you I know I'm preaching to the choir so many of you hearing online you're already doing what God has called you to do you've already identified the gap and you're already filling the gap I don't want to thank you for that because ministry is not possible a church is not a building a church is the people who make up the church that make Church happen that go into all the world and preach the gospel that invite people to church and I know that you're doing that I just want to reinforce sometimes we need a little checkup from the neck up so us all we need to do is make sure when we leave you today we have a little alignment I want to give you three keys to alignment if you're a note taker I want you to write these down if you're taking medicine I'll have 10 minutes left 9 minutes and 53 seconds praise God multiply that time Jesus the first key to alignment is excellence I talked with some of our teams in West Palm the other day and I said we don't expect you as faith church to be excellent in everything that you do because that's it's a standard that most people can't meet but what we do expect is a church and this is being aligned okay alignment is important this is the vision of who we are we have a spirit of excellence now setting it like trying to be excellent in everything like come on somebody my living room right now has laundry all over it can I can I get a Amen anybody okay some of y'all ain't being true right now okay let's go here if I went out geo car right now what we go back seat look like excellence is hard but excellence has to be an expectation if we have a spirit of excellence that is what we're called to do because excellence is an art one by training and habituation we need to do this repetitively it's something that we have to remind ourselves every day every hour and every minute Ecclesiastes I want to I want to pair this with some Bible because you're like okay that's just what you think here's what the Bible says it says whatever your hand finds to do verily do it with all of your might now it doesn't say do it perfectly does it it says do it with all of your might okay and first Corinthians 15:58 it says this so then dear brothers and sisters be firm do not be moved always be outstanding in the work of the Lord knowing that your labor is not in vain it's in the Lord it says what it says be outstanding now does it say be perfect okay y'all have to interact now I like feed off of energy I said does it say be perfect no it says to be outstanding to me that is something that it's an expectation of we're gonna do our best with what we have in our hand Abby I think biblically speaking the pursuit of excellence refers to the pursuing of doing the best we can with what we currently have the Bible says this it says if you're faithful over the little he'll make you he'll make you ruler over much so it doesn't say be again be perfect it says be faithful over what you currently have and have a spirit of excellence I'm talking about excellence one of the first keys to alignment because pursuing excellence should not be limited by the nature of the task you know I think like I said well you reproduce you are you can teach what you know but reproducer you are our pastors I know a lot I see a lot of our staff in here tonight and our pastors if they walk past a piece of trash pastor Paul what do they do they pick it up why excellence if they walk past and see that the lights in this room are on and no one's in here and the building is closed Cortney what do they do they turn them off why excellence being faithful over what we currently have now we're not the best at certain things but it's a spirit of excellent is in this house so I want you to know as you go forward in your business men have that spirit of excellence it's stuff if you and I if we're asking our teams if you're maybe one of our dream team directors if you're asking your teams for perfection they will fail every time no one wants to fail by a show of hands here and online who wants to fail hold on keep your hands up for just a second I didn't think so not one person not let me ask you this who wants to win by a show of hands online everybody raised their hands and this guy even raised a foot I'm talking about excellence because we're aligned with the house the second key is this the second key is expectation we have to be expecting and knowing that God is moving and working even right now when we can't see it now faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen we have a spirit of excellence but now we have to start expect for what God is about to do which is key because the next key I'm gonna give you really leads back to the both of them what we're expecting we have to expect the mission of our churches people connect families grow and lives are changed if we wouldn't have had that mission given down from our pastors pastors David and Nicole to our team I don't think anybody would have been in fate's I don't even know if a church would be a I think maybe it was a different it would be a different Church but it would not be faith Church because that was the mission that God put on their heart they set an expectation God said I want you to go and have people connect families grow and life's changed one of the reasons that happens is this this is what expectation does have you taking notes one of the things expectation does is that leads to preparation when you're expecting your you want to see something happen especially everybody does this at the new year and then if you're like me you fall off by the end of January and start eating Oreos again but everybody in January how many of you started setting goals I love it most of you are like still head down writing notes but it's okay you can lift a hand me and you online they're still writing you start setting goals I actually have a friend that I call Miss Pinterest board because everything's a Pinterest board for her she has expectation beyond what I can even imagine in her business and her life in so many different areas of what she's doing but I love it because without expectation she can't be in a line for what she believes God is about to do she's already having faith that he's going to increase her in her business he's already she's already having faith that God is about to increase her in her finances but without expectation we can't have alignment because without expectation we can't have excellence without excellence we can't have expectation another thing expectation does is it eliminates distractions I want to encourage you to eliminate distractions in your life that you're not seeing fruit from the Bible actually talks about trimming of certain trees that maybe aren't producing in your life now that now whatever that is for you that could be friends that could be relationships that could be a job that could be resources that could be something that you've been investing in and you're not seeing a return on your own Cement i had to recently do that my wife and i Morgan we were investing just like a lot of you really hard-earned money and we are seeing no return we were actually losing money and I looked at her and I'm like girl I was expecting a return and I ain't seeing it let's pull this out i'ma go get some ice cream with this money I can at least get something out of this just this half of the room okay you guys don't like ice cream I'll get to you but it eliminates distraction so I want to encourage you this eliminate the distraction also of social media of comparison you know recently I believe passionate Kohl's shared a message on comparison it's a it's the killer of contentment but also what it can do is if you're not careful it can set a false expectation up for you and I of what we need to be who we need to be what we need to look like and God called you to be you just as such for a time as this so you need to just stand where you're at and know that God made me in his own image I don't care if I'm white black yellow purple tall skinny still working on my weight hello I don't look like JV wherever he is he got some big old muscles where'd you go JV you walk down here with me he back there oh hey JV you're too far I'd have you run up here but he's a good-looking man I want to look like that they don't know what you look like come here JB just real quickly they're like once you want to look like if I could even though I live in Florida off I took this jacket off I'm whiter than white I'm so white y'all see through I get jealous a JV because this man has an all time tan line always looking good come here do you see this look at these just I know you can't like just make a muscle don't be shy don't be shy look at that my god like that's expectation Annie's good-looking come on somebody but he's not single so sorry ladies but we have to be faithful so we can be expecting but we have to currently be faithful of over what we currently have because if we're faithful over the little who make us ruler over much maybe if you seen a mom a mom when she first becomes pregnant one of the first things the doctor tells her to do is you need to eliminate some certain things because you are expecting one of the first things when you're expecting something in your life you have to eliminate a few things because you can't be who you yourse called to be by being who you were yesterday you have to change a few things you got to improve a few things which leads back to excellence if we have a spirit of excellence we can go into tomorrow to fulfill the purpose that God has for us because he has an expectation for you and I next thing expectation does it determines direction direction is always more important than speed I will okay if you didn't hear it she said say it again okay direction is always more important than speed now let me tell you why if I were to go down highway 44 no matter how fast I was going and I wanted to get to downtown st. Louis but on my GPS I said I wanted it to take me west no matter how fast I go am I gonna get there if you're not aware and you don't know where that okay so that is West and this city is that way no matter how fast I go if I'm headed in the wrong direction some of us the banner your blessing is right around the corner but your alignment is just a little out of place just a little bit it's not it's not that it's something huge your fake Church is a staff we say this small tweaks lead to big peak small tweaks lead to big Peaks maybe today it's not a big tweak it's just something small that you're overlooking see for me my car didn't just one day wake up and be completely out of line it took a minute to get it out of line sometimes I even was like man I probably need to address that but then I was like I'll do it tomorrow let's quit saying we'll do it tomorrow let's identify it today because if we identify it today with a spirit of excellence we can change our expectation which means we can change our direction which means we can get there further faster the third key to alignment is this and I'm going into overtime can I have two more minutes all I need is two okay a third key to alignment is preparation as we just talked about expectation leads to preparation so are you seeing how these three things are key to alignment they work with each other the Bible in Ephesians 2:10 it says this in the ESV it says for we are his workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works which God prepared beforehand prepared beforehand that we should walk in them how many know it's always good to read a scripture that says that God prepared a way for you already but if we read even more in proverbs 21 31 it says the horse is made ready for the day of battle but the victory belongs to the Lord see many of us - many of us are preparing but we're preparing like it depends on us if you prepare like it depends on you you'll lose every time that's not the long game if you want a short inflated business that grows real quickly but has no sustaining power great builded on yourself if you want a family that cannot last build it on yourself but the thing is this is true alignment it's not just serving in the true church true alignment is not just serving on a team true alignment is having Jesus at the center of everything in your life including your business so true preparation really starts in a back room with giving your first maybe 10 or 15 minutes is God if you have him at the center that's preparation because everything stemming from there the Bible says out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks it says that take his word and hide it in your heart for when you need it it will come out if he is a tower sinner and for preparing for what he has because we have an expectation of the promises he's already given us because it said he went a hare ahead preparing away for you and on and if we do it with the spirit of excellence we find alignment with what God's calling us to do to go ye into all the world and preach the gospel can somebody say Amen last story so I was on the plane or on an airplane the other day and we were about to take off and before the plane takes off the stewardess always comes around and the pilot tell me if I'm wrong ardan he says in preparation for takeoff is that not what he says right is that correct okay this okay I just want to make sure I have my facts right pilot for like ever down here legend okay so they say in preparation for takeoff we need you to prepare and get ready for that where we're about to go I'm telling you this many of us don't just have a small tweak maybe we're just not currently yet prepared just enough but as we prepare God is about to take off to where we're needing to go to the land of favor to the land of opportunity to land a blessing but maybe you and I just have not found ourselves completely aligned yet when the stewardess came around she said sir your seat belts not on I said oh I'm sorry she said sir your tray tables still down I said ma'am I'm so sorry but that uh sir your back seat needs to come up your window has I'm like crazy what do you want me to do lady my gosh but they know what it takes to be prepared for takeoff many of us might be delaying our ownselves from the destination of where God's calling us to be there's nothing worse when it's not you and it's somebody else my God when they don't know how to put their seatbelt on I mean come on hello your luggage goes up there like just put it up let's go we got places to be preparation preparation but one of the things that I love and I wrote it in my notes with preparation and alignment it's nice to hear the pilots say when we are prepared when we take off on schedule when we're about to land he says these words that are incredible we are ahead of schedule I think we as a church is I'm thinking of Ferguson flourescent as I'm thinking of Illinois's I'm thinking of our city wellness Spring Sunset Hills Royal Palm Beach West Palm Beach I want somebody to go with me on this because I get excited when I think about I want God to look at us and say well done my good and faithful servant you are ahead of schedule we're gonna hell and early you prepared with excellence expectation and you already because we are going to the other side we are about to receive the banner your blessing of what we have as a church because we have some crazy people up in here that's a I've identified the gap and I want to stand up and be a gap filler so that we can go see more lives changed oh come on let's give God best the same I want everybody to go ahead and stand to your feet I want to leave you with this last law so I'm gonna give you the three keys one more time just in case you got so wrapped up in two that you forgot them and you didn't get a chance to run down excellence expectation and preparation but this is the key right here okay if you didn't write anything else down I want you to write this down if alignment is the goal preparation is the key you can't get something done tomorrow that you're not preparing for if you have an expectation for yourself to grow your business if you have an expectation for yourself to find that boo if you have an expectation for yourself to get that scholarship high school student or student that's about to go into your senior year if you don't start preparing now you will never see the fruit of what God has for you on the other side I want you to say I was prepared I did it with a spirit of excellence because I had to expectation that God had more from my life and one of the ways that you can do it here faith churches I want to encourage you if you're not serving on a team somebody serves so that you could come to church and experience life change we have people in the gap right now that are being abused that are overdosing on drugs that are turning to alcohol and you can fill the gap not just our pastors not our staff you and it's you know it's crazy for me to think sometimes cuz I'm not qualified to stand on the stage but one time somebody stood in a gap so that they could reach me and now what I want to do is spend my life standing in the gap no matter how hard it is sometimes and I want to say you know what if somebody did it for me I want to do it for somebody else I want to help people where they're at but we can't do it alone y'all we have to be this community of believers that are so radically just ready to reach people where they're at not pointing the finger at them because again that's not our alignment of our culture how many times what is PD do Pastor David he says I don't put a finger at you this way I point a finger at the dish this way got points to put a ring on your finger and a robe on your back he loves you and we love you I want to be known as the church that when we go into the city and they see Faith Church they line up for blocks right Katrina say yes yes because they know [Music] we love them in because many of you don't know this we have teams standing in gaps all the time even when it's raining outside it's cold cuz they love you they love the person to your left they love the person to your right but it's not passable with that it's not possible without you serving it's not possible without your generosity it's not possible to go playing a campus where people are saying it's not possible we're not trying to turn our backs we're turning our face and saying we don't want to eat just take away we want to go into the place where they're saying not to go we're gonna build a church and Ferguson flourescent that's gonna reach so many people hold on what were the statistics 34 percent of st.
