3 days in Athens 🇬🇷 Find out why it's my new favourite city!

[Music] Athens neas have been there before Greece is a new country for EMA and 47 pound return fights from Gatwick seem like a no-brainer for a little cultured weekend break in the country's capital city this city is packed full of great bars shops and restaurants it has amazing street art it also has a beach a short tra or bu ride from the center and obviously steep in history of the Highlight being the Acropolis that Towers over the city join us for this 3-day trip to find out why Athens is our new favorite [Music] city with a flight time of about 3 and 1/ half hours from London it was an easy train ride from the airport following line 3 into the city center where our weekend break began so this is our hotel room the hotel is called royalty hotel and sweets Emma's trying to figure out the nest pressing machine figured it out yet no nice bathroom we were hoping to get a nice view overlooking the Acropolis on the nice big balcony unfortunately we've just got a small balcony over looking some buildings so not quite as nice but still still nice and wel welcome to Athens so we arrived late last night we arrived in a place called matx AIO which is where all the bars and restaurants are we had no idea it was actually like that we both said what did we say it the best place we've ever been literally was like this is amazing it's like street art everywhere and cool restaurants and bars and stuff it's really cool I mean probably looks a bit grossy now but look so our hotel is literally right around the corner we're right in the hub so if you come to Athens I really recommend this area what you found St robot got tape KN oh yeah am I getting there do something hipster what smoke a cigar or [Music] pipe so our plan for today is just to go and explore really possibly go up the Acropolis if not today definitely tomorrow the talk of the devil there it is just there o uh so it's actually free all of tomorrow so oh we pay 30 today 30 today to do all the like major historical sites in Athens including the Acropolis um or we come back tomorrow it's all free I reckon let's go free [Music] okay so as all the uh archaological sites are free tomorrow it's actually Sunday tomorrow not Saturday by the way we thought we'd go to the beach so we're going to walk to the bus station and get the bus to the beach check out this guy I actually thought he was a real Statue but he's a man pretending to be a [Music] statue so we've just climbed up this hill to get a really cool view of the Acropolis look who we found a tortois hello didn't expect to see you here you're quite a big one that's so weird so check out this view it's amazing you got the sea just over there which is where we're heading to Next really builtup City and then you've got the Acropolis just here and then snowy mountains in the distance and it's February and I kind of wish I was in shorts it's pretty warm isn't Emma and there's some like Greek ruin [Music] there [Music] so to get to the beach kalamaki beach you need A2 bus which we hope goes all the way down there to the beach it's going right past us so how you pay for this I'm not sure get on just get on let's just get on and I think you need a ticket are you pay like this okay not entirely sure how you pay for it maybe we getting a free ride don't contain this there's no such thing as a free ride so we got that bus trip for free I think you need to actually get like a proper bus pass thing so not sure entirely how we're going to get back I'm sure we'll figure it out but yeah we're near the beach now [Music] this boat here is called option b that's option b I'd like to see where option A looks like pretty nice [Music] you [Music] so catching the tram back it's €30 from this machine and this is to take us back half the way to the city center and then we get off and get on another trames that worked and we've legit bought a [Music] ticket what is [Music] SP [Music] so do you remember me telling you that our hotels and a really cool area of aens well this is what it's like at night and for some strange reason they still think it's Christmas check this out [Music] [Music] Christmas seems to run until February in Athens look at this crazy lights everywhere Christmas [Music] stuff it's amazing actually it's like they celebrate Christmas all year [Music] round you have to take this down it's very narrow inside not enough space definitely not 63 days yamas B of good morning it's a lovely beautiful day here in Athens and we're actually moving Hotel today 900 M away to a place called Lea Hotel and Spa so hopefully we can enjoy a nice jacuzzi and sauna this evening nice here we are look I think this is it something yes here look Emma oo look at that for View look at this look whoa whoa so um we can't check into our room yet cuz we're early so we've come to the rooftop of our hotel and what an amazing view it's got got the uh Acropolis right there incredible view of the city this is much better than the uh last Hotel view was what you think amazing spectacular spectacular [Music] like [Music] Phil West report for BBC News so we're actually very lucky today cuz what we didn't realize that the first Sunday of every month you can actually get into all the archaeological sites in Athens completely free we had no idea so lucky and a little tip there if you come to Athens we're currently sat on this outc crop looking at this amazing view check that out but hope you can join us for a little trip up the Acropolis very soon over and [Music] out so we think it is free there is people queing up for ticket office however Emma's just spent all her money that would have been the entrance to the Acropolis on this drink that was delicious and how much 550 quite a [Music] lot thank thank you uh so it's free you just get a time slot as is 1:00 time now another [Music] time so the Acropolis which is a citadel is over 3,300 years old and actually means highest point got any questions you'd like to ask this highly knowledgeable historian um what's it for well it's the path in on on top was for the goddess known as Athena oh like the shop from the '90s like the shop from the '90s and do you know why no because she was the goddess of wisdom craft and warfare so basically she knew how to make paper masche and then she knew how to CH your head off with the paper masche exactly so yeah um you learned something new there so I guess the downside of coming on a Sunday and when it's completely free is there's a lot more people and a lot more [Music] cues and we're in first St is the theater it's nice we've seen better haven't we whereabouts Jordan Jordan far too many people for my liking be interested to know how different it would have been yesterday still reckon we been pretty busy though [Music] so the path unfortunately is a little bit more metally than uh we hoped for it's covered in and Scaffolding right now Emma got any cool facts about this so I think in 1687 during the Maran War um the venetians stored some bombs in there and someone who is it is all just off the top of your head yeah I she can't can you lost I can't remember who but basically they blew it up and it exploded all right that's really good [Music] [Applause] knowledge can't believe how busy it is today yesterday we were wandering around saying oh UPS is so quiet and peaceful and uh hard the anyone around and then today it's it's mental so bear that in mind if you come today Sunday first Sunday of the month pretty [Music] busy so we' just had our day exploring Athens and this is our room pretty small it's nice there nice bathroom nice tiles got mini bath wow yeah right is it like dream bathroom mini bar fridge what the view no [Laughter] Acropolis it's like a prison cell like a lovely prison C so one of the reasons we booked this hotel CU it's got a little Spa it's got a sauna and a Jacuzzi how is it bubbly done this last year can anyone guess where Phil's just been a feel so [Music] relaxed [Music] good morning it's our last day today our flight's not until this evening so we've got all day to go and explore going have a bit more of a chilled run having said that we might climb a mountain that you may have seen in my Drone footage earlier but right now we're off to go and find myself a t-shirt that I saw that had a cool picture of Medusa on it I got it [Music] the trail begins how you feeling sled sled yeah I do what's at the Topo just make out the top there there's a flag and a little church I think so we've only been walking for about 10 minutes and we're almost at the top check this out for a view that is amazing I'm not sure if you can make out the Acropolis in the distance but probably one of the best views in Athens if you come highly recommend it just a little bit of a walk from like the main tourist Hub so we're about halfway up now there's a path that kind of switchbacks all the way up to the top you might just be able to make out the church look at that for a view definitely the best view in [Music] Athens we made it so we're at the top nice little church Greek flag Bell Tower and check out this view probably took us about 20 to 30 minutes from the bottom to reach this point look at thato it's a long way down Acropolis is just [Music] there so this seems like a great time to end the video thanks for watching Athens has been amazing and we've certainly ended on a high quite literally it's I'd say it's actually one of my new favorite cities definitely top five anyway it's just got everything it's small enough to see in 2 or 3 days it's obviously got the history with the Acropolis and all the Greek ruins it's got amazing cafes and restaurants and street art and sort of there's different areas that got like different pockets of really cool things so yeah highly recommend it so anything you want to add uh also go to the beach oh yeah if you can there's a amazing Beach um which is easy to get to
