hey y'all thanks for tuning in along farms again this evening uh just out here in the hayfield um fixing a tedder um which most of you all know what that is but uh some of y'all that don't that's uh normally the second of the four-step process from cutting the hay look what's in that field there um getting it to the bale but uh all the tedder does is after we cut it um this spine leaves some little rows like this here and uh i've already made a couple of rounds around the field as you can see we got your two separate lines here and i've already done this it takes it and scatters the hay out and uh lets it dry um these baskets here this is a four basket tetter and got the teeth on it that depending on which way they spin this one's clockwise counterclockwise clockwise and that one spins counterclockwise and um when these baskets spin they pick up the hay and i'll get a couple action shots but they'll while they're spinning it's picking it up and throwing it out the back i'm scattering it and even though the top side is dry um what the tater job does it picks it up from the bottom scatters it and lets the bottom side dry and they hadn't been in the sun so um well just some general maintenance tips and just like any equipment it's just got its normal grease fittings on each basket and it's got a couple on the joint there a couple on the u-joint there and on the wheels um and then here is the adjustment handle that uh lets me address the pitch of the baskets and you come over here and you can tell that the front is angled down which helps with picking it up and slinging it out the back so the tailor doesn't require a whole lot of horsepower to turn um so that's why we've got the 5210 it's our smallest tractor it's just around the 50-53 horsepower range on the motor which will put it about the 42-45 at the pto so um it's pretty good little tractor we've had it um i don't know i guess going on that 20 years now it's she's a little dirty that um i should have washed it before i come out here so normally i do but just how things have been i just hadn't had quite the time to clean it but um i'm gonna do a let y'all ride around the field with me this afternoon so uh since we're not in the kubota we're in this open canopy tractor which means uh it's got the canopy but ain't got the full cab and all the features it's gonna be a little loud so uh i'll pick back up with y'all here in just a little bit uh when i get a a couple action shots for you all just kind of showing um how this tether operates so i forgot to explain earlier but um of course that tooth is broken let's see it flopping around but uh when you adjust it you get these teeth and as low as you can to the ground that way it picks up the most hay that you can but you don't want to adjust it so low that it starts digging in the ground so you want to just kind of just pick it up and just scoop the hay and y'all can see um just throwing it out the back here but uh this year i figured i'd i had a little american spirit here got old glory flapping in the wind because i see the guys and uh row crop guys put on their corn planters and combines and stuff and well why can't a hay farmer do that so that's why i did may i'll start a new train with these hey guys because i don't know if i've seen a american flag on a mountain hayfield like this before i i could be wrong but if it wasn't for the men and women who um gave up the ultimate sacrifice and fighting and for our freedoms i wouldn't be out here being able to make this video for y'all today so next time y'all see a veteran be sure to thank him so we we own a lot the debt that we won't be able to pay so now we've got this field done just gotta um angle the baskets back level and fold it up and we'll be headed back to the barn and this old fat boy is hoping to get him big old glass of sweet teas i don't know if you can tell but i'm a little hot i'm fat i'm thirsty i need a snack so let's hurry and get this folded up and get back to the barn believe this crank needs some wd-40 now i'm just gonna do the opposite of what i've done uh unfolding just these little levers are a little tricky sometimes so old glory she pulled through just get the line up right just make sure them teeth aren't locked together so they're separate like others down a couple good times over here [Music] be nice if we had one of those hydraulic um fold ones where the ends fold straight up in there like on a bad wing bush hall but we ain't quite that fancy yet so this one still gets the job done just fine i don't know if you want to tell it's a little harder than i thought to hold the camera get uh get this pan with the hammer i'm trying best i can boy we're folded up and ready hit the road jack well made it back to the barn safe and sound um i only met one car but of course y'all know i try my best if i'm if i'm coming up over a hill or to a blind curve i'll turn around to acknowledge the car behind me but i'm going to go probably another quarter mile or so until i can see all the way around the curve and over towards the other hill for i'll wave a car on and i don't do that just because i want to take up your time it's your time just as important as mine but i do that hey sweetie sorry little girl's hollering at me but i do that for the safety of me and also for the safety of you so i wait till i can see a clear path of view then i'll wave you around and that's when it's safe for both of us but um tomorrow i got tedder the other field in the back and then uh this weekend probably saturday uh but using an old side rake over there's we've got a v-rake but um with our because our baler is still is considered a narrow throat baler it's only about five about five and a half foot wide um those v rakes and thick hay i know it's gonna make some people mad in my opinion on narrow throat baler it's um doesn't do any good and thick hey now thin hay yeah it it does just fine um but even though we've got one we we still prefer though john deere side rake over there so we'll um get it um this should be ready to go i'll check over it tomorrow then uh we're gonna finish some uh grease a couple things and um pull the twine back through on here um so now i get the bush hog unhooked from the john deere so we got a long list of projects still to get done uh before we finish hay but the biggest thing on hay equipment maintenance wise is uh if you've got barn space and like we do um we keep our rake rake and tedder in the barn of course we're not fixing to use it hey sweetie keep her this mine over there and then keep the hay baler in here and that um just keeps them out of sun and the weather and all that just helps with the of course the fading of the paint rust water getting in places it doesn't need to be so if you can keep it in the dry that's the best thing to do and also just make sure and keep everything greased on a normal schedule then depending on the conditions many degrees are just a little bit more than recommended because a little bit of grease don't hurt nobody but um sorry i sure wore a mask not cause of covered because hey dust but um thanks for tuning in uh thanks for going on for the ride today sorry i wasn't didn't do a lot of commentary while i was on the tractor it's just if you all know it can get rather loud on a um open station tractor so uh that's why i'm kind of into talking now when i get in the baylor and the kubota i'll be able to do a lot more talking while i'm bailing um but thanks for tuning in thanks for going on for a ride and we'll catch you on the next one
