3 years ago I created a smooth camera follow tutorial in unity and after it was uploaded I found out that a key part of the tutorial was cut off which led to it not working and many people asking for a fix to the same problem over and over again so I decided to remake an updated version of the tutorial in this tutorial you'll learn how to make your camera smoothly follow your player here I have a simple 2D project with a character controller and level set up if you take a look at the scene view you'll see that the level is a lot bigger than what the camera can see so let's do something about it navigate up the top two window and open the package manager making sure that the packages drop down is set to Unity registry and install cin machine if you already have cine machine installed in your project you can skip this step with that installed navigate to Game object cin machine and we'll create a 2d camera this will add a virtual camera to the scene essentially what this does is it overrides your normal cameras TR transform now all we need to do to get this camera following the player is simply drag the player game object into the cinem machine virtual camera's follow slot if we press player you should see the camera nicely following the player even though this was quick and simple to set up cin machine is very powerful with a large amount of customization I won't be covering those in this video though as they would be very specific to your own game so I recommend playing around with them yourself but that's all for this video if there are any small tutorials that you want to see let me know in the comments below if you enjoyed the video give it a like And subscribe if you haven't already thanks for watching and I'll see you in the next one [Music]
