so [Music] so [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] good morning happy sabbath how are you this morning i was glad when they said unto me let us go into the house of the lord it is a glorious glorious day any day that we wake up on this side any day that we have an opportunity to breathe and to move and to have our being is a glorious day so say it with me i was glad when they said unto me let us go into the house of the lord there you go wherever it is that you are today is the house of the lord for he has promised that wherever two or three are gathered in his name there he is in the midst and for those of you who might be alone do not think for one minute that god is not with you his spirit is right there with you and he has sent some heavenly angels to abide with you so you are not alone you are not alone at all and so folks we are so glad to have you join us one more time here on lagos university sabbath school what an honor and a privilege it is to share the word of god with you this week folks i hope that your week has been one of those weeks where you can say at the end of it that no matter what it was no matter what sunday started off with no matter what may have happened on monday whether there was a victory or sometimes you may say a defeat that through it all our god has been faithful to us and we will remain faithful to him and that we can rest in the blessed assurance that the sabbath brings so we have 24 hours folks to just lay everything down to cast it aside and rest in jesus and so as we continue with our service today we have our resident songstress [Music] his voice to me is calling [Music] i is [Music] [Music] has ever known [Music] amen amen amen amen simone you sang one of my favorite songs this morning wonderful words of life oh my gosh i was over there tickled were you excited to hear wonderful words of life or in the garden i sure was because those songs help us to remain faithful and steadfast in our faith and in our relationship with god wonderful words of life sometimes we speak a lot of words so i want to say simone thank you for wonderful words of life and in the garden your ministry is a blessing may god continue to allow you to use your voice and your talents to bring a sweet sweet presence of god into the lives of his people thank you so much we speak a lot of words we can speak a lot of words a lot of words are being said but when we have the wonderful words of jesus christ those are the best words that we can ever hear and so i hope it is my prayer that as we here on lagos university share wonderful words of life that they are exactly that for you in your experience in whatever it is that you are going through that the wonderful words of our lord and savior jesus christ bring comfort bring peace bring healing bring assurance bring a determined mind and heart that you will follow jesus christ all the way because in his word he has promised that lo i am with you always even until the ends of the earth and that he'd never leave us nor forsake us but the best promise the best words is that he is coming back he's coming back again that's right folks can you feel it can you see it see it with your mind's eye and know that jesus christ is coming back again he's coming back for you he's coming back for me he's coming back for those who do not even know him and you know why because we have to go out and tell them so that they can be ready for when he comes because he wants to have them and receive them into his heavenly kingdom so that is our prayer for all of us that we take these wonderful words of life and we share them with those who do not know well we are at the end of this quarter and we are in a shot well not a shutdown but we're in a a sort of like a sheltered in place if you will for for some and so there's many of you who are viewing up us online and you know what i always ask you to do and that is to press that like press that share and press that subscribe sabbath to you and to our viewing audience i am feeling great amen uh the sun is shining it's a beautiful sabbath day and also we get to participate in our communion service today so i'm feeling wonderful i'm feeling i'm glad to be a part of this experience and log us and to study god's word and to know that we have true rest in jesus christ so amen i'm feeling good amen amen amen nothing like knowing and being rest assured of the rest in jesus christ good morning i'm gonna slide right on over and i'm gonna come down to the end here to elder smith good morning elder smith happy sabbath how are you this morning not too bad i've had a long trying week but um i'm here and i'm resting amen you're here and you're resting it's the sabbath elder oh boy mentioned the um well i mentioned the communion table elder oh boy mentioned communion as well what is the one thing about communion that you look forward to being able to participate in this most solemn celebration give me one thing something about communion just being able to partic participate in that well i know for me it's such a solemn time that for me it's being able to have my mind in in a very serious place and having my sins washed away a time where i can start all over i mean i know christ will forgive us any time but in particular during this time um just to know that we're partaking and remembering this broken body and it's built love for us for me that that brings my mind into a much more serious place so i enjoy that amen amen amen and folks you see in the middle here [Music] we want to welcome back elder durane burgess elder burgess welcome back it is good to see you in your spot this morning god is good thank you it's good to see you good to be back how are you feeling this morning elder and i'm going to ask the same question that i asked elder smith communion what does that mean it represents a fresh start a fresh start another re-commitment after all of my re-commitments daily commitments but communion is is is an idea of a re-washing a refreshing of the soul in the mind and again it's a very solemn time again because you know it's a time where you actually afflict yourself and and quite frankly ask god to search you out all over again and so for me it's an experience that i i just want to go home i really do and so at the end of it it just helps me to get closer to god and recognize that you know he said do this until i return and so we will continue to do it until it returns because again it is once again a reminder of the sacrifice that jesus made for us amen amen and aldo oh boy i'm going to save this question for you there are some people who sometimes run away from communion they may not participate or may not understand the importance and what communion can do what communion does what kind what words of encouragement can we give can you give can you share around communion and why it would be so important for us to participate and what that may mean for our relationship [Music] and our faith well i i'll simply say i think i would have brought this con i alluded to it already um it's a reconnection it's a there is there's a text and i can't remember exactly where it's found but it says if i make my bed and how you are there right so there's nowhere that we can necessarily run to get away from god as a matter of fact we brought that that was highlighted last week with the story of jonah that he tried to to run away from god but yet god was with him every step of the way amen and although we may not necessarily come to church to participate with the communion service god is always with us and we don't have to be concerned or worry about what we have done that may prohibit us from participating in this service but he actually wants us to come to him amen despite of our circumstances despite of what we've done you know when when when the woman was brought before jesus if you remember when she was caught in the very act of adultery and christ simply just wrote everyone's sins in the sand and the oldest part departed he said woman where are the those that accuse you and he says neither do i condemn thee go and sin no more so don't worry about what you've done come on now even right up until this morning yes i just want to encourage you that you can always come to jesus christ amen despite of your circumstances despite of your earned thought processes of how you see yourself god doesn't see you as a sinner but he sees you as his child amen so i just want to encourage us to event communion ears around comes about feel free to participate for as elder burgess said we are reconnecting and re-establishing our commitment to christ amen amen amen folks communion is a time for us to reconnect with our lord and savior jesus christ for any broken ties he promised he'd never leave us no forsake us and so he's given us this service to come back as a refreshing as a mini baptism that we can be reconnected in him [Music] and so without further ado we are going to go right into our lesson study discussion we have our moderator our beloved pastor pastor david steed ii who is standing in the wings ready to facilitate our lesson study discussion this morning and so we will have our opening prayer this morning by elder oh boy okay sure let us pray heavenly father we thank you for another opportunity to come to rest in you for you are the only answer for the world today now lord i ask that you would just embrace your love with everyone that is watching and i just ask that your spirit will abide with us this is our prayer in jesus name amen amen amen enjoy the lesson study discussion this morning [Music] [Music] [Music] god bless you friends it's an absolute privilege an absolute joy to be back here with you on lagos university we are thankful for your presence with us today and we are praying that you are blessed by this final lesson gentlemen this final lesson of this third quarter it's amazing how fast time flies we are thankful that all of you are here and ready to go as two of you know uh we have prayed we have fasted we have been in sackcloth and ashes for 14 days for 14 days um you know praying that somebody's constitution would come back come on somebody ought to say man we are blessed to be here in this place he looks a little different he came back with a beard he came back with a beard but we are thankful that he is with us uh we certainly missed his presence uh these last couple of weeks hey listen man let's go ahead and jump in please uh please go ahead and text that all over the chat welcome back elder burgess just so glad to have him here in our midst we don't have much time today gentlemen we have to cut it just a little bit short because of communion we're going to stop everyone at 10 30 today at 10 30 well i don't know what time that is for you all over the world but here in bermuda we are on atlantic town we're just an hour ahead of eastern right so that'll be at 9 30 eastern time we will end just about 10 minutes earlier than we normally do all right let's jump right into it today as we kick this off bermuda right now gentlemen is in the midst of its fourth covid surge more cases than we have ever had uh more people in the hospital and icu than we have ever had and the rate of those dying has increased dramatically us losing which is a big deal for us uh losing seven people here in just the last few days gentlemen is it possible that the pandemic will never end is it possible that the pandemic we are in will never end i'm coming to you first alto smith come on give it to me oh wow that's a loaded question i mean in one sense i guess it's possible it'll never end but obviously from the christian perspective on the christian perspective oh it's going to end it's definitely going to end anything that is troubling us will end we'll end it's going to end sometimes yes sir all right all right talk to me you're going to give you know the guy the middle still you know he hasn't really exerted himself but come on let's let's let's let's come to you uh oh boy talk to me man talk to me about this pandemic is it possible that it will never end well i kind of lean into toward what elder smith said but there's always going to be trials and tribulations right that as long as we're living there's going to we're going to have issues to deal with but once we die that's that's the end for us in a sense however god said he's going to light this place of fire when he comes and he's going to restore it to what it was supposed to be what his intention intended purpose was to be so i look forward to that day right then we don't have to uh wear a mask and you know not worrying about um what the next person hears and all that so i do believe in one said yeah it's going to end there's no question okay that's no question okay you know right now we're in the thick of it we're in the you know right in the midst of it and to be honest it seems like it's never going to end however we have lots of promises nebara that says wait a little while and it will end elder burgess the operative word in this question is never right that is the operative word the question is is it possible that the pandemic will never end talk to me i guess we look at it from two points the first one is how do you define a pandemic that's first so depending on how you define a pandemic then quite frankly it could be to the point where it navarans just based on your definition of pandemic but the truth of the matter is is that we don't look at necessarily man's definitions of things we look at the word of god yes and the reality is that the bible makes it clear that this world is not going to be wiped out by a pandemic that's right it is christ himself who is going to destroy this earth and because of that we know that this is not going to last forever yes it may last for some time and for some people it may feel like forever but the truth of it is is that it will go away there was one time when they thought the measles would never go away there was a time when they thought the flu would never go away well we still have it but it's not a pandemic is it so the question again like i said depends on what you define as a pandemic because what at one point was a pandemic it's not normal life [Music] and so that's why i said the definition of pandemic is important in your phrase which this might end up being yeah he really looks better he ran a little technical he ran a little technically that's all right i don't know if you notice it i don't know if you know this gentleman the voice is a little soft you know what i'm saying but hey listen come on let's get into our reading text for today first corinthians chapter two and verse nine today we're discussing the ultimate rest the ultimate rest first corinthians chapter 2 and verse 9. i want to go to the new king james version and then to the message bible what does the bible say but as it is written eye has not seen ear heard nor have entered into the heart of men the things which god has prepared for those who love him mercy the message bible reads that's why we have this scripture text no one's ever seen or heard anything like this never so much as imagined anything quite like it what god has arranged for those who love him what god has raised us now here's the thing at all why don't you go back to your to your page on your text for the new king james version and i want you just to if you would just carry over just a little i know it's not uh the text that the lesson uses but carry over just a little bit if you would into verse 10. just the first half of verse 10. okay one second let me just pull it up what does it say first corinthians chapter two verse nine i know they don't have that on the screen but first chapter rounds in chapter two verse nine i just want you to spill over just a little into verse ten if that's okay sure first corinthians chapter two it's on the screen you can just use the screen uh verse 10 but god hath has revealed them to us through his spirit go back to nine go back to nine again go back to nine nine says we've never seen it right yes eye has not seen huh nor ear heard right nor have entered into the heart of man the things which god has prepared for those who love him but then verse 10 says but god has revealed then lord help us to us to us through his spirit spirit oh come on now amen it's important to realize doubt and discouragement comes to all our lives jesus gave us a glimpse on the mount of olives of what would happen right before jesus comes john on the isle of patmos was able to lean on the promises what god had already put in place ahead of time for his people some will face death before jesus comes some will die due to many circumstances even this pandemic we are in the hope in this pandemic though is that jesus will deliver us from it all the great controversy is being war between christ and the devil on both an imminent and a transcendent level it affects us globally it affects us personally in the midst of all the upheaval that is going on in the world today we serve a god who already has an escape plan [Music] there is still hope even in the midst of this global pendant there's still hope amen huh you got people out there they're despaired they're just they're despondent they're depressed they're ready to give up they're dejected they're ready to throw in the towel but there is still hope yes sir today we've come to bring hope amen not about temporary rest but about an ultimate risk right paul here contrasts the belief he's contrasting the belief that the rulers of this world understood wisdom with the reality that they did not understand to draw out this contrast he alluded to isaiah 64 4 and added elements from isaiah 52 and 65 along with jeremiah 3. now here's the thing he pointed out how the prophets occasionally indicated that god's wise plan remained hidden from all but those who loved him [Music] okay so god's plans are hidden from all from all those except for those who actually love him the ordinary ways listen to me the ordinary ways of understanding i ear and mine cannot perceive the mysteries of god the rulers of the world may be adept as these means of perception but these senses cannot discern the wisdom of god god must reveal his wisdom to us in a special way to drive home this main point paul applied the prophetic word directly to the corinthians although the world cannot perceive the wisdom of god god has revealed it yes sir uh it has come in a supernatural way directly from god moreover this word came not to us to the world but to us it didn't come to the world it came to us jesus showed up he showed up and he came and presented himself to us right to paul and the other followers of christ many in corinth relied on pretentious human reason in their struggles within the church so paul reminded them that they did not perceive the gospel of christ by human ingenuity you don't understand the good things about jesus because you were able to conceive it and develop a theory and a hypothesis that helps you come to some sort of conclusion about the gospel of jesus christ no no no no you understand the gospel paul is saying because a man showed up man and he came and lived down here and because of him something that's outside of this world came here because of that outside influence you now understand what the gospel is all about it's interesting it was foolish for the corinthian believers to turn to human insight when they had discovered the ways of christ through divine revelation by his spirit paul affirmed as before that the wisdom of god comes through the ministry of the holy spirit in the church i will read that text again they put it back on the screen first corinthians chapter 2 and verse 9. first corinthians chapter 2 and verse 9 takes on a whole different context but as it is written eyes has not seen eye has not seen nor ain't heard nor have answered into the heart of man the things which god has prepared for them who love you huh regular humanity cannot grasp it huh spiritual things are spiritually discerned yes but but verse 10 says what what does verse 10 say but god has revealed them to us through his spirit come on gentlemen come on man from the manager from the manger sorry to the cross satan did everything to stop jesus mission of mercy the more jesus was attacked though the more i need i need our audience to grasp this the more jesus was attacked the more he clung to the father how the worse things get the more you ought to be latching on to jesus christ through the cross jesus has opened the door of hope there is a great controversy between christ and satan and here's what's interesting knowledge of it is not enough we must live it it must become a part of us yes sir it must be in our hearts satan's time is running out and i want to pause it to us and to our audience not to give any place for the devil to stand between you and christ christ has given his life for us hey listen man let's get right into a vision of the end a vision of the end help me out if you were gentlemen acts chapter 1 verses 11. i'm going to go king james version first and then i want to go to the message bob i want to go king james version then i want to get the paraphrase from the message bible what does acts chapter 1 verse 11 say the king james version it says which also said ye man of galilee why send you gazing up into heaven this same jesus which is taken up from you into heaven shall shall come in like manna yes sir as ye have seen him go into heaven now we can spend all day on this same jesus man but i help me out help me out smith help me out message bible reads you galileans why do you just stand here looking up at the empty sky this very jesus who was taken up from among you to heaven will come as certainly yes and mysteriously as he left come on man come on now now now out of burgess i want you to help us understand this vision of the end i will just say though it's very significant to me that when we study and we read uh even the books of ellen white she makes it very clear that the angels that are standing there were jesus guardian angels oh i wish i had a witness in this place uh that in essence when uh jesus is if you would uh begin to to to actually rise and be taken up very quickly a cloud of angels come and surround him so he'd take him out of sight uh yeah he he rides on a cloud his chariot uh uh his charity if you would has has living wheels it's it's an angelic host that's carrying him uh to the gates i'm not gonna talk about the gates today but what i want to say is that they're carrying him to the gates but he sends back the very ones that watched over him right throughout his entire journey to tell my disciples man as you see me going up i'm coming back man and you know what i'm saying and it's a powerful message man in other words it kind of snaps them out of their their present state of mind they're focused on the fact that they're losing him these guys come say listen man you got a job to do get your bottom and tell the world that as he left he shall return that he's coming back man you're not just walking around as people don't have no hope the hope is in you to go and tell everybody else that this guy just told hey he's coming back help me understand budgets a vision of the end and just as you described it just now pastor what they were given was a vision of the end yes christ was actually coming back and in sunday's lesson it is called a vision of the end and we can look back historically in um 1881 it was emperor domitian who actually came onto the throne at that point and around 85 or 6 and scholars can't decide why or how but he came to a place where he wanted to actually deify himself he came to a point where he wanted to be god and so this became an edict throughout the county in under normal circumstances when emperors died justice's historical context when emperors died then they would actually deify that emperor but this one domicion he didn't want to wait until he died he wanted it while he was alive he wanted to be god while he was alive and so he made an edict that everyone was to worship he mentioned and so under normal circumstances that the state was that everybody had to go and to a certain extent prove that they had washed it and put the mission because it was mandatory that they go so now they had to prove that maybe they received a safe key or something i don't know maybe a foreign you know one of those those ancient safe keys but they had to prove every time they were wrong because they could be accustomed at any moment by the authorities and asked have you rushed it today and so based on that we get to the point where as john decided that just because the michigan is saying what he's saying i absolutely refuse to bow down the question comes in this circumstance is that whenever we see sometimes people in power sometimes power gets misused and so what happens is that the edict goes out and the eating starts to divide the people to the point whereas if you rush if it was okay but if you didn't rush it you were enemy of the state i don't want to draw any conclusions about what's going on today but we can see it right and so this very thing is going on and so finally we get to the point where john decides at the end of it that absolutely not because again that just like there was then that day there were some people who believed in ample russia because it was a normal thing for them but there was always some people who didn't believe in and so because there were those divides in between them it caused problems and so those people who believed in it they themselves or whatever would start sort of what reporting those who did not believe and so john came to a place where okay it was john's turn to sort of worship and john said absolutely not at some point in time somebody had to stand up and say this is not going to happen at all well john himself ended up being part because they don't want a joint message john was going all around the place preaching that the mission was not a god and so what happens just like we have today we have cancer culture against those who don't go with the normal narrative and so they had to cancel joanna what did they do they first of all they tried to kill him by boiling them in a cold and that didn't work and then they exiled him over to the land of patmos the island of patmos and this is where we see john now actually making this case about what he saw on patmos and so what do we get out of this here the first thing we get is that god never leaves us nor forsakes us like he said no matter what the circumstances are even in the worst circumstance i mean i don't know about you but john had to be wondering jesus what's going on here you told us when you left or whatever that the same way that you left at some point in time you would be coming back but here i am i find myself on patmos all of my friends are dead now all of the other disciples have died and i find myself in this particular situation and so jesus comes along now to give join a vision and a reminder and an assurance that listen i haven't forgotten you every now and then when we find ourselves in a deeper situation that seems to be when jesus comes alongside just to give us a reminder just to give us a vision of the end of all of this and we know at the end of it that this is where it's going to go and so what happens is that jesus in in the worst of circumstances gives us wisdom and understanding and he's telling you and join what you're going through right now it's not the big picture don't focus on what you're going through right now there is a far bigger picture and even though it looks like everything's over for you guess what i still have something don't you to do don't give it all to me yet don't give it all to me come on let's go to the text let's go to this text let's go to revelation chapter 1 verses 9 through 19. give me the new international version 9 to 19. revelation chapter 1 what does the bible say i john your brother and companion in the suffering and kingdom and patient endurance that are ours in jesus was on the island of patmos because of the word of god and the testimony of jesus on the lord's day i was in the spirit and i heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet it said write on the scroll what you see and send it to the seven churches to ephesus smyrna pergamum philadelphia and laodicea i turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me and when i turned i saw seven golden lamp stands first and among the lampstands was someone like the son of man dressed in a rib reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest the hair on his head was white like wool as white as snow and his eyes were like blazing fire his feet were like bronze bronze glowing in a furnace and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters in his right hand he held seven stars and coming out of his mouth was a sharp double-edged sword his face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance when i saw him i fell at his feet as though dead then he placed his right hand on me and said do not be afraid i am the first and the last i am the living one i was dead and now look i am alive forever and ever and i hold the keys of death and hades right therefore what you have seen what is now and what will take place later why was he there yeah yeah yeah why yes and it's no different today yes it's no different today we must stand on the word of god and we must proclaim the testimony of jesus because at the end of it all that's how what you spoke earlier about how it was that i have not seen and hear have not heard yes but but it's been revealed to you yeah i love you yes so we have the answer to everything so even in the present circumstances that we're living in don't worry about curving because again at the end of the curve it's going to pass yeah we have a vision of the end we know how it's going to end the bible tells us it makes it clear that one day that same jesus oh that that same jesus who went up will come back in like manna and so we have nothing but a vision so what what do we have we have ultimate rest in the fact that we know that jesus will keep his word and what we see has come to pass amen these two are jumping at there's a couple of things about it that to me is incredible one is that uh john is exiled you talked about being exiled you talk about being the last one alive the youngest of the disciples is exiled he's the last one alive he's now in his 90s the guy is out there and he's alone by himself in this prison camp man this is where he is he's a coal miner he's doing hard labor as an old man out there on this campus he feels if you would uh he has been abandoned he has feel like he's been left desolate he talks about in john verse uh verse 21 chapter two no i'm sorry revelation 21 verse one and i saw a new heaven and a new one for the first half and the first ever passed away and there was no more seed he's talking about that great aegean sea that's separating him from the church that he loves and he says i see this place and it wasn't there anymore god had removed this place of separation but it's in the midst of his abandonment that god shows up now i would probably just do it i would post this to you that in essence he had to learn that himself as the lesson talks about later from the experience of lazarus that god often times saves his greatest miracles for those who he loves the most lord help us man that in essence uh sometimes you have to wait longer yeah lord jesus uh because uh he has a greater miracle preparing for those who only have a little faith he does quick miracles when he loves those but those that are the closest to him have to wait the longest for him to show up and he shows up and he comes in a special way well here's the thing bro i just can't let things slide here's the thing the boy is in vision yeah he's envisioned jesus not uh come on now let's let's hold on hold on a second hold on a second remember in the garden of eden just as one of the examples you remember there were times in jesus ministry where he would say certain things and divinity would flash through humanity come on man and when it would flash through humanity anybody around would fall as dead yeah huh every time you see him and divinity shows up people have known you're about to fall as dead mary when he comes out to froze as dead you know what i'm saying that's it's it's a very significant moment but the boys envisioned are you telling me and he still fell off that even envisioned talk to me today man talk to me man i i love this really quick because you you see he sees a vision of jesus now when jesus left they said this same jesus would come in like manna right but when they saw him leave he looked just like them yes but no come on bro at his darkest time yes yeah he lets jon see him eyes like flames of fire his feet like burnished brass face like shining brighter than the sun right stars in his in his right hand i mean the power and majesty of of of christ at that moment causes him to fall down death like he's dead right imagine a person now this is why we have so much hope in this pandemic even imagine because if we can't deal with the pandemic hello if we can't deal with the pandemic and i know because i'm i'm having my own struggles with this being home every day and this is it it's driving me crazy but i tell you what this vision of christ is giving us hope because he's saying the ultimate rest listen look at me just look at me that's it don't even worry about heaven and all this stuff just see me if you see me you know the kind of power and might and majesty and glory that i am yeah then this same but the but the interesting thing i found about that is as soon as he fell as dead they wanted this kind of power with eyes like fire seriously that could continue of a person with that much power this character is power no it's interesting because it's interesting because at that moment although he has collapsed because of god's presence god strengthens his strength yeah so that he can stand in his presence now it's interesting to me at the same time that in essence he's doing hard labor bridges and so the hard labor he's doing could cause him to collapse but when jesus shows up he collapses in god's presence and i want to pause it to our listeners that sometimes you've got to collapse in his presence so that you don't collapse from the cares of this world that you got to learn to fall at his feet so that you don't give up in this regular life that we're living come on talk to me all the whole boy yeah when i then i write this passage man i i had to strap strap strap put on my seat belt with this thing because this is a lot of power in this in this passage but the thing that stands out to me in verse 10 he says i heard a voice behind me but when i turned and looked yes i saw these this lampstand i heard but then when i but i turned i saw and and i'm encouraged because it says there are 144 thousand come on brother yeah we'll be make up that number but but then it says there's a number that no man can number which gives me encouragement that i can make it and that you can make it that's right there's 144 000 on one side but then on the other there's a number that no man can number yeah the 144 is what he heard that's what he heard that's what he heard he did but when he turned but when he turned and what he saw was a number that remember you also says what he he says he he heard he heard when when he was crying when he was crying and he because because nobody was available yeah to open the box yeah he heard behold the lion of the tribe of judah yes but when he turned what did he say so so so in essence we have this hope right it's like the song says we have this hope that burns within our hearts the hope of the coming of the lord john 14 1-3 says let let your heart be troubled amen you believe in god believe also in me in my father's house are many mountains if it were not so i would have told you you have a hope we have a hope that's found in this world that is fun in his word so so so yes this pandemic is troublesome yes people are hopeless yes people are discouraged but we have a hope if he said it it will come to pass you just said it and it came to pass so so like like like john i heard there's a place prepare for me yes and prepare for us all we have to do is hold on hold on to that promise nothing jesus flashes through man i am he that liveth yes indeed and he was dead yeah and he was alive forever same one showing up when stephen is being stolen he stephen doesn't see oh no no yes right right i'm regular jesus yeah letting them know that these present sufferings they're nothing compared to the joy that you will one day have when you get to them i love the word of god absolutely man absolutely i love it i love it let's get in there man let's get into it let's go a little bit deeper and get into monday's lesson the countdown the countdown gentlemen we're running out of time the countdown come on daniel chapter 12 and verse 1. what does the bible say in the king james version for daniel chapter 12 and verse 1 and at that time shall michael stand up the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people and there shall be a time of trouble such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time and at that time my thy people shall be delivered every one that shall be found written in the book help us out smith help us understand what this countdown is amen well this countdown i just want us right off the bat i want everyone to know that we are on the conclusion if we go to matthew 24 it's amazing amazing the accuracy of this word matthew 24 and verse 6 i'll just read from there it says and you will hear of wars and rumors of wars see that you are not troubled for all these things must come to pass right and if we're watching any news right now we're not just seeing wars but we're hearing rumors of wars that could take place this is this is the countdown so do we have hope absolutely we have hope because this is the countdown we are starting our journey to the end for nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom and there will be famines there will be pestilences and earthquakes in various places were already in debt this pandemic is a pestilence we've seen famine still going on around the world we are on the countdown this same jesus will so come in like man as he left we are counting down all these are the beginning of sorrows people we must make it through the beginning because the only people who receive the prize are those who endure to the end so if we don't endure right now then we may not make it to the end we have to endure what we're experiencing race right now because this is the beginning of sorrows we're on that countdown so i'll start with that right now okay i'll start with that all right i i you know we talk about he as he left he will return right that's what we talk about as he left he'll return how did he leave but he started he started rising up huh and angelic host quickly came underneath of him right and took him to glory now we understand when he gets the glory man the gates are shut you know we understand from from from patriarchs and prophets that indeed moses is on the gate you know what i'm saying they're ready to open those gates up because he ain't trying to come back down here and it's and it's amazing thing because they cry that cry you know lift up your heads oh your gates but when it's time to leave he said as he left he shall return and i know we don't have that in front but but if it's the same way the rent is leaving it's right lift up your head so your gates because now he's coming back to get his people home and when he's coming down again he's riding on a cloud of cherry he's riding on a chariot of angels to the extent that these angels worship him and adore him as he's making that journey down here to earth but remember they moved into formation to take him out of sight come on now we're told that when that time comes we'll see a little cloud man about half the size of a man's head and the closer it gets the brighter it gets i would posit to you it's just the angels as they start to move out and you feel his glory man it's gonna be an incredible day man what a day of rejoicing it would be come on talk to me how the birth just help me understand no it's not me oh it's joe yes yes yes um well as as you already discussed these things shall come to pass right but in matthew 24 verse 4 he also it says take heed that no man deceive you for many shall come in my name saying i am christ and shall deceive many and in my uh research for this lesson i discovered that there were at least 10 men that have claimed to be christ reincarnated and a couple of them were even uh former seventh-day adventists one was a former seventh-day adventist preacher this guy uh named wayne bent also known as michael trovas traverser he left um the the the um seventy events church in 1987 and he claims to be the me be grace another guy oscar romero ortega hernandez in 2011 he tried to assassinate president obama because he thought that president obama was the antichrist so a lot of these guys have come on the scene and they have drawn a following right and but the bible clearly says listen take heed that no man deceive you and that's why that's why pastor we have to study for ourselves because there are oodles amount of people that if they say the right words the flowery words and all that the bible says if it were not if it were possible the very elect will be lost so we have to study this thing for ourselves to know light from darkness talk to me and like again i would say pastor that okay we've mentioned about the part that we need to endure and then we need to study for ourselves but why are we doing and why are we studying for ourselves so that we can share this word with other people yes in other words there's no good us being spiritual gluttons to the point where as we grow this information and knowledge and we keep it to ourselves what's the point and that's a perfect transition to this next day's lesson marching orders right marching orders come on help us help us understand what these marching orders are all about well this text when i write the text you wrote we're talking about the three angels message right and if i had to uh name this this this this these these passages it would almost be like a trilogy your favorite trilogy movie right and i and i will caption it last call now or never yes one two and three right that's that's that's the title of the movies yes so so but in the first message we see it says that fear god and give glory to him that's the first message the second one is babylon is fallen fallen that's message number two the third one if any man worship the beast or his image and receive his mark you that's the mark of the beast that in your forehead or in your hand so these this these are the moves that would we will be running to if it were today coming to a sanctuary near you by the way you know so so it's all ab it's all about worship in the democracy beast is it do you believe in the babylon system and we know from from the old testament that babylon the origins was a tower of babel when god confounded or confused the language that's what actually babel means is it means confusion and they would of course disperse right but so if you buy into this system that is shrunk that actually confuses people either you believe in it or by your your your your your your um your actions your words i mean your your deeds so that that's really mark that's the mark b so let me just say right now that the covet vaccination is not the market obese because i know you know there are some um ideology out there that oh if i get decode the vaccine you know i'm receiving the market obese no that is not it it is if you believe in the babylon system uh of confusion and knowing knowing what is um um right but i'm sorry you know what is incorrect but you're doing the opposite right so we have to be very careful of what we subscribe to because at the end of the day it all boils down to worship who will you worship will you worship god or will you worship saying that is a great controversy story all right and to be clear the the mark of the beast uh to be clear to our listeners is the observance of sunday as sabbath all right that is democracy talk to me uh elder smith yeah really quickly when we look at this even if we're on the countdown part of that countdown is written um and this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all nations and then the end will come so if we're in a position where we don't want to spread the gospel if we're in a position where we don't share the gospel then we're not understanding that we're in the last days we're in the countdown it's almost like that time and and the bible doesn't say who it was but when the ten virgins were sleeping somebody came ahead of the bridegroom and said hey it's coming he's coming get up get up right this is what the three angels are doing the three angels are there's people that come be just before he comes and says hey he's coming he's coming get up but in order for him to come christ is saying i'm coming i'm not coming just for you i'm coming for everybody that wants to be saved so unless you take the gospel to all the world i cannot come because there are people out there who belong to me and it's your part to play in getting those people to hear the gospel i think it's very interesting like if you apply that uh what the angels are saying to the disciples if you applied it to our own context the question to ask is why steny gazing at a pandemic you know what i'm saying i left you specific instructions to carry out your job is to get out there and bring hope the hope the hope is in you all right i have placed a hope inside of you go and tell the world that i'm coming back again you're standing there all day watching me go up like going that's why i took myself out of your sight as soon as i started going up because you have a responsibility go and tell and get on with it and go and tell them the only time that you will stop preaching the gospel is when this earth is destroyed there you go there you go come on man let's get into wednesday's uh rest in peace our time rest in peace we are and johnny john hold on johnny left let's go to john 11 verse 11. we're going to go to the new new niv and the nlt john chapter 11 and verse 11 that elder brothers will break it down for us what does it say after he had said this he went on to tell them our friend lazarus has fallen asleep but i am going there to go ahead all the burgers go ahead man when we are in hebrews chapter 11 but not that particular part of the the lesson speaks about hebrews chapter 11 which we call it the whole of faith and it speaks about how those who had died and gone on and died already they themselves have not received the promise and so the idea is the fact that they are resting in christ jesus and they are waiting for his second return speaking first of all to the idea of the state of the dead let's be clear that people are dead they're not alive and they're not in heaven because again it makes it clear that christ says when i come back i will bring my reward and so no one gets to go until they get the reward yes we have our what what's what i'm looking for are tokens in the sense of moses and we have you know we have those that are already there whatever representing certain classes of people but under the normal circumstances most people are dead and they are waiting in the grave and christ is coming back with his reward so the idea and this always scares me the idea that your parents and your loved ones are up there watching you and and and and seeing their life i don't want my mama know the life i was living i i don't know about you i know what life i was living that's crazy to me but anyway but but this is where in other words saying that the reward is coming and we are to rest in it so those who have gone on they are rested in the grave and the very next phase they will see is jesus whether or not they're coming up for the first resurrection or the second resurrection the next face they will see will be that of jesus christ either in glory or in horror it just depends on which one your head and so again so what is it death is a sleep so the question will be again what comforts do you get from knowing that your deceased loved ones are indeed now at rest and my answer is it depends it depends on what you know their state to have been before they went down if they went on in christ jesus you're glorified yeah you know you know i was i was positive you know when i'm preaching this particular text that that in essence you know you have to excuse jesus if he gets a little bit confused you know what i'm saying when he speaks to because you got to understand when jesus speaks to a person that is asleep and he speaks to a person that is dead and he tells him get up he gets the same response i i need you to understand that today but in essence he can call it asleep because when he talks get people get up come on man let's let's let's keep rolling let's keep rolling let's as clear as you can to all you meet that you're on their side working with them and not against them help them see that the master is about to arrive he could show up any minute don't fret or worry instead of worrying pray let petitions and praises shape your words into prayers letting god know your concerns gentlemen we are supposed to be that hope but help me out smith talk to me about rejoice in the lord always yeah i mean this is this is a beautiful thing too because especially in this pandemic time where we're experiencing what we're experiencing right now god is saying make your petitions known to me but the way i see it is not in the way that other people make their petitions known to me some people are making their petitions nursery because they're anxious they just they just want to out they want let's just get get rid of this thing now god is saying listen you make your petitions known to me i want to know your petitions but do it with thanksgiving rejoice in me in other words you may have struggled all week long but when you come to church rejoice in the lord always every time you get an opportunity to be in the presence of god whether it be in your bedroom in your car at church in prayer standing up with your eyes open with your eyes closed anytime you get an opportunity to be in the presence of god rejoice in the lord rejoice in knowing that hey my ultimate answer my ultimate rest is sure it's certain i will have it even though i may be going through difficult times right now right so so so so i want you just give me just a second give me just 10 seconds dr smith on that word always uh because it doesn't say like sometimes or when you're feeling good or when you're in church or when you no no no it says always so when you're walking into that burning building always so when when things are rough you can't put food on the table always rejoice david says i will bless the lord at all times and i'm wondering about that always because it's our job to always have those words of hope on our lips to lift somebody that's out there in despair that's right i mean and when you think about it i have to put this in there that many of us may think that anyone who is able to rejoice in the lord always does it by some miracle by some miraculous you're just you're just closer to god than anybody else you god's just giving you a miracle that i don't have it's a choice that's not what he's saying in actual fact this is saying to us make the decision make a choice make the decision to rejoice in the lord always because guarantee you ain't waking up tomorrow feeling like you did today tomorrow you may be depressed how do i know because i feel that depression sometimes myself i feel that anxiousness and this scripture spoke love to me be anxious for nothing nothing oh that that that took me from here and just said many if you're teaching the sabbath school lesson about resting in christ yes brother you got to make the decision in your own life to rest don't let your monthly bills that that are plaguing you right now don't let the money that you've lost right now don't let this and this and this and your marriage problems and your friend hey don't let any of that get you to the point where you don't rest in christ you make the decision no i will rejoice in the lord lord thank you for this and thank you for that and thank you for this i'm asking for this but if you don't i'm okay that's what god is saying make the decision make a decision then i'm going to reach you i'm going to rejoice anyhow it's not a miracle yes sir yes sir hey you got 30 seconds about to wind it up for us ah boy i wish we had some more time because this was a juicy lesson anyway i'll summarize it with this statement for those for those who are watching juicy means rich it was very rich from the consoles on stewardship and sister white says it will only be a little while before jesus will come to save his children and give them the finishing yes christ said it's going he's gonna put an end to everything and he's gonna restore us to what we were supposed to be my lord keep hope alive in jesus christ and ultimately rest in him amen yes sir amen yes sir yes sir you know there's some times as i get to this final quote today there were some times i was concerned today you know it was so good to have elder burgess back here with us you know one of the things i i have a watchman and one of the little apps on the watch it actually goes off uh eldarboy when like it gets too loud in a room you know that's too loud i think it went off a had it not been for christ and his sacrifice to each of us i hope we won't take it for granted because this full and free salvation that we have that was made possible at that fountain filled with blood will not always be available we are going to be having communion and i do hope you are prepared yourselves wherever you are but especially here because we made provisions make sure you can participate there at home what i want to start with is to let you know those who will be able to participate because at our church christ as we know is all inclusive but we do have our position which i will share with you and then we will take it from there now the church practices open communion all who have committed their lives to the savior may participate children learn the significance of this service by observing others participate when we do our part here at church our children are watching right there at home now our children are watching us because they learn from us how to treat this service which is very significant in our church after receiving formal instruction in baptismal classes and making their commitment to jesus in baptism they are thereby prepared to partake in the services themselves so you will notice we don't even exclude our children once they are baptized christ's example forbids exclusion at the lord's supper it is true that open sin excludes guilty the holy spirit plainly teaches that in 1st corinthians 5 and verse 11 but beyond this none should pass judgment god has not left it with men to say who shall present themselves on these occasions for who can read the heart we don't know somebody's heart who can distinguish the tears from the wheat we all look the same we all come here really dressed properly and we're speaking politely and we're saying happy sabbath and we have that bright smile but only god can differentiate us let a man examine himself first you examine yourself before you try to examine anybody else and so let him eat of that bread and drink of that cup for whosoever shall eat this bread and drink this cup that will dwell it later i do so unworthily shall be guilty of the body and blood of christ he that eateth and drinketh unworthily eat it and drink a damnation to himself not discern in the lord's body and that's found in first corinthians 11 verses 28 29 and also verse including verse 27 there may come into the company of persons who are not in the heart they are not servants of christ they are not practicing christians but they may wish to participate they should not be forbidden there are witnesses present who were present when jesus washed the feet of the disciples and judas was among those more than human eyes beheld the scene jesus knows that we come before him and most of us are worthy some of us are not not worthy but he doesn't differentiate jesus is all-inclusive jesus died to save each of us and it doesn't matter who we are where we are it's our heart that matters because we need to humble our hearts we need to repent we need to know that we have to do this worthily as we do it today and this is a great opportunity because it's like a re-baptism it's something that we do and as jesus said as often as he do this do it in remembrance of me and you are going to see it a little later now we would normally at this time be separated and going over in the center to be washing each other's feet and that is not forgotten that is not lost because that's exactly what we are going to be doing right now but the only thing you are not here to wash your feet but i know you have everything there at home you have your basin you have your water you have your family members with you your husband and your wife i'm going to ask you to place the same significance on this service as you would if you were here so though you are home i'm going to invite you to get out of your bed get out of the kitchen just pay attention to this service just give us the next one or two hours of your time and not so much us but the lord because this is a significant service and if you are just doing it for formality you won't receive the blessing that you are supposed to receive and we want to make sure that each of you receive the same blessing out there where you are as we are going to be receiving here so get yourself together and get that person your son your daughter your brother your sister neighbor no not your neighbor not in this time but keep it in the household just keep it right there in your family and make sure that you're following with us and we want to pray with each other as well when you have that person just pray because normally we would even hold hands together and sometimes in some practices i know they would say this chain will not be broken where i stand and i'm going to just ask you to form that symbolic chain and just convince yourself your friend that this chain will not break from where you stand you will not give up on the law because he will never give up on you and in fact if ever a time we need the lord we surely need him right now so this is not a time to move away and i'm going to ask you to make the best of this opportunity because there is this fountain filled with blood drawn from emmanuel's vein and at the cross at the cross where i first saw the light and the burden of my heart rose away this is just such a wonderful experience a wonderful service for each of us so i'm going to invite you to place the significance on this service that it deserves we are going to depart from you but stay tuned because our praise team is right here and they are going to be singing they are going to be blessing your hearts as we gather ourselves and come right back here at 11 to continue the service just before i depart though
