what's going on YouTube Travel ears here back at it again with another video this summer I'd be doing 25 tips and tricks for beginner backpackers we're also gonna be doing for the first time a nice giveaway we're gonna be giving away this nice trichology blow-up pillow super ultra lightweight to get a good night's rest on the trail you know I'm saying because that's really important you know it is orange and it's orange anyway so enough about that noise stay tuned to the end of the video to find out more about how to get this and intro alright guys your first tip and trick cotton kills so go get some synthetic clothes some wool clothes whatever you can but don't wear cotton that gets wet you'll freeze your butt off it won't dry fast so don't wear it at all even the undies number two keep your socks dry oh you don't want trench foot you don't want any other nasties growing on your feet so a good way to do that your socks on your poles as you're hiking okay guys the third tip on the list is when your shoes get super wet which they will go ahead and pull your insoles out let them dry and then it'll dry out the shoe faster as well not having insoles trapping in the water which also brings us to tip number give me that get some nice insoles especially if you have trouble on your feet when you're hiking or walking insoles would do you wonders okay number five on the list is soaking your feet any time you get to a creek or whatever a nice cold river go ahead take your shoes off take a break take some lunch whatever soak your feet and it'll really be like it'll do wonders on maintaining your foot health number six also at water sources whenever you're trying to filter water sometimes it might be too shallow so what a lot of people do was they have a nice like little cup you can make from water bottle so let's super ultra lightweight and you just kind of scoop the water in and fill your container or whatever using to get water and if you need to pack it back up you just crush it down those backpacks good to go alright guys number seven on the list drink on the go so when you're filtering water you're in a good rhythm you don't want to stop but you do need to fill up on your water go ahead fill up your water and then drink it as you're hiking you don't have to take your pack off just get your water filters fill it up and just drink when you're hiking just tip number eight not just drink on the go but eat on the go so besides your breakfast lunch dinner or however you do your meals you're gonna be burning a lot of calories you're gonna want to eat as you hike so keep some little snacks something quick and easy like handy to put in your hip pouches on your backpack or you can put them in your pocket whatever is just easy access to get some food as you're going along alright guys number nine on the list we got go to town and get some town food treat yourself to a big ol burger big old pizza some ice cream whatever you want get your calories get your strength back up and just treat yourself to something with a lot of calories and a lot better quality than we would get on the trail eating the garbage we do Hey smelling tip number ten when you're at that restaurant eating that big old juicy burger go ahead and steal some condiments throwing this little ziploc bag which it should have and collect some condiments ketchup taco bell sauce mayonnaise whatever you like that way you can spice up your food on the trail get some flavor going and your meals definitely a nice thing to do all right tip number eleven bring some multivitamins on the trail we're eating garbage the whole time this will give you the nutrients and vitamins that you really need tip number 12 ghost oh bliss yeah I said it charli's try going slow this this is a debatable one a lot of people have different views but if you can ghost Ovilus you can save weight and you can also save from having to keep so much bulk in your backpack like you know these things get really pokey your backpack and they're hard so try going this though we do it works out great so just something to think about tip number 13 get rid of stuff you don't need cook kit made money for that tip 14 please way to get ultralight that's something you're into is to get the lightest weight materials so for your puffy items jackets sim bags you want to get down items for your tent possibly your backpack as well you want to get Cupid fiber I will say this though these things are gonna be more expensive so if you don't want to get these kind of top shelf items definitely try and get lighter weight materials pay attention to two weight pounds or whatever each system you use when you're shopping online or buying gear tip number 15 bring as much multi-purpose gears to save weight save space trekking poles if you use trekking poles they're a great multi-purpose item you can go hiking for support use them and then you can use them to set up your tent like this tent right here it requires a trekking pole so I'll need ten poles saves weight is my items more purpose and more functional number 16 bring some duct tape the duct tape could help you a lot of things ten patches can help though some first aid stuff many differences also when you bring the duct tape don't bring the whole freaking roll is gonna take up space and add more weight wrap it on your trekking pole or some kind of item wrap it around you can just use it just like if you have the roll you don't need it so hey tip number 17 so we're pretty much all gonna be using headlamps with the most particle so when you're it's nighttime everyone's sleeping maybe in a shelter or something and you turn on your your your light and it's the white mode the brightest mode you have you're gonna be waking everybody up I've been blinded by people I've blinded others and woke them up it's annoying so make sure your headlamp simply just has a red light mode and just be courteous to those others tip number eighteen bring some earplugs especially when you're at like hostels and staying in shelters with a bunch of other people people are gonna be making weird noise when they sleep sleepwalk and sleep-talk and all kind of crazy stuff so you want to block that out so you can get a good night's rest so definitely try and bring some earplugs when you are on the trip so tip number 19 it's pretty simple actually it's just get free stuff that you can so there'll be hiker boxes all over the place especially at resupply points or like mail places so it you can get food gear repair any sort of stuff that people don't need anymore just look for free stuff tip 20 find or bring a friend slash friends I mean this is again some of these are a little opinionated but I found he's found while hiking it's always better to have someone have your back you know you're out there trying crazy places have someone to walk watch your back someone to split items like money with or whatever also making friends on the trail is half of the experience to me like you make friends you build these experience have a great time with people on the trail so definitely a big tip tip number 21 kind of goes along with this if you're not a girl hopefully you are for this tip but if you're not make a friend who is a girl hopefully and it'll help you out with hitchhiking it can be really hard for someone like us who kind of we look like when we're hiking we look like scrappy rough looking sketchy looking dudes so hitchhiking we've had a lot of success if we've had one of our friends who's a girl with us it just helps a lot or just try to clean up a little bit you know smile have a sign that kind of says what's going on so you don't look so creepy tip 22 the pace keeping pace now it's sort of kind of to do this I need a watch and whatever show you're hiking like a trail book or maps or whatever you use you kind of coincide you look at things in the book and you just say okay well zero miles from this trail the trailhead will be at the next water source in one point six miles kind of keep track of when you started or when you get there and you can kind of get a sense of your own pace like okay I'm hiking two mile an hour oh well we're hiking three mile an hour we can and that knowing your pace can help you plan and decide where to go on segments of the trail tip 23 it seems like a simple one but don't forget this stretch every morning at nighttime it goes such a long way to preserving your body preventing injuries pulling muscles and stuff like that just do some stretching get it going you know just whatever you feel in the morning if you're tight just make sure you stretch and it just it's a great way to maintain oh yeah [Applause] oh yeah let's go number 24 take care your skin take it yourself in general but for this to take care your skin you're gonna be out exposed to the elements like all day so definitely apply sunscreen every day as much as you need to don't skimp on that are you only getting crazy sunburns and skin problems on you out there oh we're out there what should that matter also use bug spray okay so don't let yourself just get eaten alive by mosquitoes why do that that's not fun no one likes that unless you're crazy best kiss or something whatever use lip balm or chapstick you know again you're gonna expose the elements you're literally getting dry so just keep something like that handy especially if you're prone to those sort of things tip number 25 the last one so pretty much as simple there's this item called permethrin spray you can get it from sawyer the company i think they sell it at Walmart's pretty cheap you treat all your gear with it we've all been out in the woods and ticks are everywhere this stuff will prevent ticks and a bunch of other bugs from getting on you and you know potentially giving you diseases like Lyme disease and it works i've used it a bunch and definitely is saved my butt a bunch all right guys that's our 25
